I was always a little surprised by the safety save. There are so many speed games where of course you're going to lose runs to a bad RNG roll, you just have to reset and try again.
I do get it with longer runs, you loose a lot of time, but since KQ1 runs are so short, might as well do away with the safety save and just restart the run on bad RNG.
It's very tempting to save (especially if you're ahead) because of how much other RNG there is. By the time you get to dwarf, you've already passed gnome RNG and sorcerer RNG (and depending on which route you're going for, potentially fairy RNG and another dwarf screen as well). And you're coming up on giant RNG, which is a massive swing that makes or breaks the run (and breaks a lot more runs than it makes). (And there's more RNG after that, not to mention well zip and end zip and pail yolo...) But of course, saving doesn't guarantee anything. If you save, it's pretty common you just get a second dwarf, and then another, and then another, until you reset in disgust. Ultimately I stopped saving... mostly...

Another great OneShortEye video! I love watching these speedrun progression documentaries.
1:13 I know falling to your death is technically running into something, but I still feel like it deserves its own mention.
My history with KQ games..
played V, couldn't get past the snake.
Beat KQ8..
That's it lol. Love these videos.
I feel like you need to do the Santa voice if you're going to read Santa's text.
(And there's more RNG after that, not to mention well zip and end zip and pail yolo...)
But of course, saving doesn't guarantee anything. If you save, it's pretty common you just get a second dwarf, and then another, and then another, until you reset in disgust. Ultimately I stopped saving... mostly...
40 years later and here we are. Excellent coverage.
My day always get better when you drop an upload:)
