Another great gone. Irreplaceable. Just glad we've got such a huge body of work to continue to dip into and enjoy. RIP, you were one of the very best.
I absolutely agree with everything you say. I've been stunned all day since hearing the news of Lynch's passing.
I've followed his astonishing career since first seeing Eraserhead at the Tyneside Film Theatre in 1979 ( still have the programme notes).
Watching all the subsequent films as they were released... culminating a few years ago in an exhibition of his art at Home in Manchester ( where I work as a projectionist) and a full retrospective of his films...and a live satellite link up with Lynch.
Still taking all this in....but what a loss.
All the best to you David, a great filmmaker is gone, I'll be watching "Inland Empire" today in tribute to the great man. I noticed "Cannibal Error" just over your shoulder, I've just ordered it today. Great tribute David!
It's OK to mourn David's passing. He was someone very special, not just another director.
He is one of the absolute greats, a modern shaman; he could weave dream into his art where it never occurred to me that I was suspending belief, it was more that I was suspended in the air, given a perspective on consciousness that went so deep and yet ineffable through words. That all sounds so mushy and I feel a little silly writing it, but it's true. We're so lucky to have had him, a net positive to the planet.
