Thank you for such great instructional videos! I'm a new home owner with a large and horrible looking lawn. Currently paying a lawn company to do the treatments because I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I recently started following your videos and I feel like I may be comfortable enough to do the treatments myself and save a ton of money! Thanks again!
Hey Doc, quick question. I put down an 18lb bag of Anderson's PE on my 5000sqft of lawn, which is about half the recommended amount per year. You always talk about putting it down heavy, so my question is should I put the rest of the 7lbs per year down now and not put it down in the spring, just wait or by heavy do you mean it's ok to do both against the recommended bag suggestions of the 7lbs per 1000sqft per year? Thanks in advance for the advice! Vids are awesome!!
Hi , I getting weeds now ! I am in Tucker ga and I did the fall preemergent . What should I do ? Kill the weeds when the rain stops ? Should I use pre- emergent now ? Thanks so much
Hello Doc... I just discovered your channel, I live in Marietta GA, its a please to hear news regarding yard care for this particular zone. I love your drone footage, thanks.
Hi Doc! I am all in on rehabbing my sad Bermuda/ Centipede lawn here in South Carolina . I started to order some of your recommended products for the fall. My one important question is about pet safety with all these products throughout the entire year. Should I be concerned about my 6 pound dog during applications? What do you recommend? Thanks for your time and your wonderful videos
Hello, I recently bought my first house. The bermuda sod is 6 months old. It started dying off so I started searching around to find a fix. I have had great improvements by following Doc's schedule and learning from his videos. A problem I have found is some areas have not taken root in the dense clay. I know to not aerate yet... but I was wondering if there was any issues with using a manual core aerator instead? Thanks!
Doc, thanks for great videos. I live just north of Atlanta and I have seen the soil temp go between 68-88F for past days, it also is supposed to warm up this coming weeks. Is it too early to put down barricade pre emergent?
You can put down anytime you want, but just remember you want to put it down based on the weeds you are targeting. Generally in GA we wait until Oct but now is fine too.
Doc, Thanks for another great video. Coming off the best season ever this year and it's all thanks to you!!! Going to put out some granular first of next week "PGF Complete with some "Organic Fertilizer" I have left but had a question on this video's products. I would love to have the "Dimension" but couldn't drop the coin for it last year and went with the "Dithiopyr" packs. If doing half "Barricade DG" and half "Dithiopyr" what would be my ratios to use for both. I was especially confused on the ratio for the Dithiopyr" last fall when I first started with you. Also, can i mix it with some "Super Juice" when applying and do i need to wear a mask and gloves when applying? Thanks again for all you do and I'm a customer for life!
I would do the full strength treatment of each.... but I would space them. The DG goes down first then wait about a month for the liquid. The liquid is better on poa annua and that comes later when it cools anyways. If using the packs, mix with warm water only. It's pretty nasty stuff as packaged and might cause some issues.
@@HowTowithDoc OK. So half a packet for 5,000 sq ft? I'll wear long clothing and a respirator to be safe then. The key is not to put the DG down until the soil temperature hits 70 so i'll keep checking the site link you gave. Thank you sir!
2 questions -I’ve often heard people say that they can’t/don’t try to get rid of their weeds because their neighbor doesn’t care about their lawn and all the weed seeds from the neighbor blow over into their lawn. If pre-emergent application is done correctly and it works like you say preventing new cell generation, is this just a myth? Please explain. -If pre-emergent only last about 3 months, shouldn’t I be applying 4 times a year. I only ever hear about fall and spring. I understand you said that weeds won’t grow in the summer if your lawn is really thick, but assuming that my lawn is not as thick, should I be putting a pre-emergent down mid summer to prevent some of the weeds that have been popping up the last couple of moths? Can you please explain pre-emergent assuming that most people are not applying as much fertilizer and soil corrections?
Weed lawns all around me... no weeds in my lawn. PE is applied at the STARTING point of germination. Thick lawn takes over. Winter weeds and spring weeds are the main focus.
Hey Doc ..I'm on Long Island NY noticed the grubs are very active..Will treat with your recommended product but is it too late for preemergent? have many different weeds..just trying to get ahead for next summer
You suggested a 4-1-2 for lawns that hasn’t been soil tested. However the PGF Complete is 16-4-8; how do I lower the levels? I have long fescue which I’m looking to over-seed for the fall.
Doc, the bag instructions say a max of 313 lbs/acre on the DG. I had a terrible growing season for crabgrass this year. And I'm not sure if I really used enough of the product. Do YOU calculate the added amount of Deminsion and subtract from the amount of DG to stay under the max of 313 lbs? I'm not sure how clear I'm being. Hope you understand what I'm trying to ask. Thanks in advance. Always love your advice and guidance. E.
Yes, understand. Follow the limits for EACH... as they are different chemicals. Example: Full treatment of each in the spring split about 4 weeks apart. The new 2020 calendar coming soon makes it clear.
For the area next to the miracle patch, what did you use to kill this crabgrass? My lawn is full of crabgrass with some hybrid Bermuda.. Thanks for your reply! 😀
Question: Let's say one has an established bermudagrass lawn in hard-packed clay. Therefore, assume the grass roots aren't able to grow very deep, i.e., the roots are relatively shallow. Assume the pest weed is Poa Annua. Assume the pre-emergent will in fact stunt the growth of the bermudagrass. Based on this, what's the best scenario for applying pre-emergent... 1, 2, 3, or 4? 1. Apply the entire "annual maximum" in the Fall. 2. Apply 1/3 of the "annual maximum" each in the Fall, Winter, and late Winter. 3. Apply 1/2 of the "annual maximum" each in the Fall and late Winter. 4. Some other application regimen?
Even in hard pack clay, Bermuda roots are VERY deep. Hard to see, but they are there. You only need to focus on the GERMINATION dates of the weed seeds. Once in the spring, and then again for winter weeds.
Awesome video! I have a lot of crabgrass and Dallisgrass, is there anything I can do to kill them all off while my Bermuda is dormant over winter? Or should I just do the Curtain of Death early spring?
New home and my bermuda sod was installed in April, should i wait till feb/march for pre-emergent? Lawn is doing well with the DG products and PGF Complete!!
Loving my PGF Complete. I have an acre of Bermuda from seed. Looked good for my first app. Its hard to spend that much but I understand all the benefits. Its more cost efficient to get 29-0-5 with iron for $30 that covers 15k.
If you are going to use the whole bag, just cut the bottom of the bag and lift to empty the contents. Much easier! You don't have to cut the top, turn over, empty while fighting the top flap.
Does core aerating your lawn break up your pre emergent barrier? I’ve seen arguments for both yes and no online and would like a good answer on which to do first? Asking for the spring time.
Hi Doc! I am locked loaded with Anderson’s pre emergent bags BUT I could not get any dimension, I did buy prodiamine.... did I screw up in buy this? I just wanted to have back up bc I dimension and drive wouldn’t get delivered to me for some reason.
I live in the San Antonio TX area and havnt had rain since late June, been using my in ground sprinkler system almost every night to keep somewhat green with PGF Complete every other month, with no rain every 3-4 weeks will burn the grass in this 100 degree heat in Texas.
@@timbeachy7872 I'm in FW, TX and same for us too. I turned off sprinklers and have been running a single sprinkler head (attached to hose) for 1.5 to 2 hrs every day. I start watering at 7pm and only do one section at a time per evening and takes 11 days to cover the entire lawn. This method allows me to select areas that need more or less water compared to running the entire sprinkler system. Hope this helps.
I got a question sir hopefully you'll reply back? I live in Florida and our Falls late in October. I've been cutting my grass 1 and 3/4 inches. Doc, we still have temps in the high 90s here in South Central Texas and have had very little to no rain this summer. Should I wait until temps cool down in the lower 80s like in October or 70s in November to put down the granular pre-emergent? Thx
Just got my PGF complete product. Still in the 90’s here in SoCal. I’ll be applying it to St. Aug as soon as temps drop a bit more as recommended by ur temp schedule. Thanks and nice pre-emergent video.
This might be a silly question, but the bag rate says you can apply 7 pounds per 1000 sqft for 12 month coverage? Is this recommended? I kind of like the set it and forget it mentality, but would it still do a good job preventing Crabgrass in the spring?
