One of my favorite things about this movie is that the characters communicate with each other and form plans. It helps that it's such a small, tight knit community. They understand that they need to work together and pool their resources if they want to make it out. The fact that the graboids learn and grow smarter adds a natural ticking clock mechanic that ensures that just because something is working now, doesn't mean it'll work forever.
We it does have a TV series.
@@focampo5672 i like that they even have a short scene where burt was like we shouldve just stood our ground at our house and after some heated exchanges earl was like they wouldve torn it out from under you, and val and burt are still angry at each other until a little bit later when burt plants the idea for the dynamite fishing plan and then everyone just kinda is back to team work. Its a nice human moment where its like they dont hate each other or want each other hurt, they are just venting like guys would do
Tremors was the first “Horror” movie I ever saw as a kid and man it still has a special place in my heart

Me and my friend loved this movie as young kids and we would play a version of this that was like the lava game, but we couldn't touch the ground because the graboids would get us.
I will calculate my surrounding if I am able to find a way to quickly climb up to safety and I still do.

I think in an earlier script Melvin's parents left him alone to go gamble in Vegas. They didn't put it in the finished script so he's just kinda there by himself
I'm positive Nestor was supposed to be his parental figure, that's why the mood is so somber when he dies.
I always wondered why he was seemingly just living on his own in the middle of nowhere. And he's not even a runaway kid squatting in an old shack, he's got a house in town.
This was confirmed in a Q&A, I believe! His parents left him in Perfection frequently, and just didn’t come back one time. They left him a trailer home, I think. He also might have brought it up when he showed up in a later movie. Wikipedia says, for Nester, that Melvin’s reaction was because that was the first casualty he was actually seeing. It’s Wikipedia, though, so a bit untrustworthy. I can totally see the parental figure thing being true, though!

The scariest part of this movie for me as a kid was when they find the guy in the metal tower who like died of exposure because he couldn't escape the graboids

Scared the shit out of me as a child to the point that I didn't even wanna step on my own floor. Mind you at the time I lived in NYC on a 5th floor walk up apartment! Lmaooo I love tremors!
RIP Joel Schumcher, who just passed yesterday. I loved The Lost Boys, I liked Phantom Of The Opera and I have a soft spot for Batman Forever because it was my first Batman movie and no matter what you say, it's still better than Batman And Robin

I always assumed Nestor was Melvin’s guardian, given Melvin’s reaction to his death. And when they’re all standing on the roof of their houses, Nestor is shown atop a caravan; I don’t see any indication that he and Nancy are together.

So I'm only 3:27 in but I do want to point out that Tremors is a "modern" 60's monster movie. If you look at the monsters from the 60's, Tremors really applies the tropes and concepts from those types of movies to make a kinda parody/homage to those movies.

I screamed out of pure joy when I saw the title. I love Tremors so much, it's so dumb and funny and wonderful and Reba McEntire is a gem.
I was born and raised in nevada, and the tremors series has always been a favorite in my household. I'm so glad to see that you guys want to watch the series, even if the later ones get kind of stupid. They do something pretty hard to do in movie series in general, which is give a different movie every time. The first is just a standard creature horror, but then they come up on land and can see Infrared. Then they can fly. Then it's the old west where everything is harder. Then it's places outside the US. The one that all of them have in common is burt gummer's philosophy, 'doing what you can with what you've got'. It's really human ingenuity that makes us the top of the food chain.
This was such a well done movie especially for being sort of out of the spotlight, not a lot of people know about this hidden gem for some reason, but it really does each genre very well.
What? You must be pretty young if you think this is a hidden gem that nobody has seen

Tremors 3 reference
A portion of this movie was filmed in my hometown Lone Pine CA (a really popular film location). At our local video store they had the worm (tongue appendage) there and you could take pictures with it just like in the movie. Now all the props from the film are in the local film museum. As a kid we would see the cast around town and everyone was so nice!
Tremors is so, so good; I love this movie.
Edit 1:Melvin's parents are canonically in Las Vegas as neglectful gamblers, Nelson is single and Pottery Mom is Nancy, the mother of Mindy. Edit 2: Wait til you see 2. You're gonna love it.

@@dandylionsloth446 Given their solo situations, I always assumed Nestor became something of a surrogate Uncle to Melvin. As said by others, Melvin probably wouldn't have known the other victims well. I can't see old Fred putting up with Melvin and the Doc & wife seemed new to the area. Nestor was someone Melvin cared a bit for, though probably wouldn't admit to it.

Michael Gross is a legend to stay with this series. He makes it what it is and it's just so great. I've done a Tremors marathon with my friends and its just so worth it

Mix some apple juice and vinegar together inside a small glass - fruit flies are attracted to the sweet-sour combination.
Put a drop or two of dish soap in there - it breaks the surface tension.

Tremors was literally my first ever horror movie and it scared the hell outta me and gave a whole new meaning to the floor is lava.

Tyler Frazier Blumhouse’s television department originally produced it, so when it wasn’t get picked up by Syfy, I was shocked Netflix, Hulu or even Shudder didn’t pick it up. Kevin Bacon returning to Tremors is an easy sell! Fred Ward was planning to come back too. Who doesn’t want to see old, cynical Val and Earl talking shit to each other? Blumhouse and Bacon have worked together numerous times, so I’m just shocked it got so far along and just abandoned.
The first tremors movie is my favorite film, like period. Giant killer three toungued worms. Also the “wrong wreck room you bastard” scene.

Please, for the love of all 80’s metal you have to cover Deathgasm. It’s a 80’s style splatter film like brain dead (dead alive) and it’s extremely funny and extremely gory.
I remember as a kid my siblings and cousins would play "The floor has tremors" in stead of the usual " the floor is lava". As we hoped over furniture as per usual there would be at least one of us crawling around our belly on the floor trying to drag us off the furniture. Our arms being the tentacle creatures. Many picture frames and lamps were broken but they were good times. Love this movie ❤️

This movie is one of my childhood favs, remember having sleepovers at my friends house watching this movie and trading pokemon with a link cable.
One of my favorite elements of the movie is that the initial setup almost has a Lovecraftian murder mystery feel to it in that Val and Earl keep discovering people dying in incredibly bizarre ways that can't be easily explained like how the one guy died of thirst from the top of that tower. My other favorite bit is that when Burt and Heather are stuck in their basement, you're already thinking "Oh, these people are totally dead." But then you get the cool switcheroo where they fuckin tear into the thing and take it down.
FINALLY!!!!!! This movie IS my childhood, one of my absolute favorites of all time, I’ve wanted you guys to cover this for EVER, thank you!!

Just wanna say that you doing creature/monster movies for the summer means a lot to me because it's the genre of horror that I love the most and it's movies like Tremors, Jaws, and Godzilla that really opened me up to the rest of horror. Also Chelsea I saw you're looking for ways of researching and discussing Godzilla. I don't know if you plan on this but my advice would to bring Mike Dougherty back to talk Godzilla and kaiju in general.

A favorite of mine when I was a kid and continues to be so today! Still feels original and the practical effects definitely hold up over time! My favorite scene is when the Graboid breaks into the rec-room. Broke into the wrong rec room didn't you!

Referencing City Slickers when going through the director credits, it was a comedy, but it had some seriously powerful dramatic scenes. The "Best Day/Worst Day" scene is one of my favorite scenes in all of film.

If memory serves, I believe they were trying to get to the mountains in order to get a radio signal out and call for help. They couldn't get a radio signal out because of how isolated it was with the mountains.

This is my first time tuning into the podcast (finally) and I think my favorite part is just Chelsea vibe-checking every character. "That's the vibes I get off of them." I love it. Also please definitely do watch the rest of the series if you can! It's so weird and fun, Tremors was probably my first introduction to horror movies outside of kaiju films.
I really loved this series of movies when I was younger. Now that I’m an adult I still love the first 2, but now I see the many limitations going further into the series and it may have started as a “B movie” but quickly slid down the alphabet and practical effects were sadly put to the wayside for special FX. It will always hold a special place in my heart due to sheer novelty, glad you guys enjoyed it for its quirks. 😃

I saw this movie when I was younger, and I could never remember the name of it until recently, because my imaginative brain as a kid sorta warped the whole movie. It had to be one of the first horror movies I ever watched, and I LOVED it. So thanks for making this video, because I probably would've never remembered this masterpiece otherwise!
