@Lyle Wilson You mean Ed King? No, he'd been switched back to guitar, which is why he was able to bounce riffs back and forth with Gary to create this song. It's possible he had input on the bass part, but Leon played bass on Second Helping save for I Need You and Don't Ask Me No Questions. So you're right, but different song
Yeah! Finally, a bass line we guitarists can actually play... simple. It's when you hit us with Entwislte, Geddy Lee, John Taylor or Dee Murray that my head starts to hurt and I realize what a bunch of hacks we guitar players are. Bass rules. Thanks once again for a great, albeit easy, bass demo.

Yes, The Guilds are among my favorites of the basses that I own. I think I've only played one Modulus before, a very long time ago and don't remember much about it. I'm sure it is a very "modern" sounding bass, while the Guild's sound is extremely passive. Thanks a lot.

Ed King is/was so underrated. So many don't even know who he is! He and Al Kooper built this song... and then both of them escaped most of the Skynyrd drama and curse (including the plane crash). Hey Troy, may I suggest going back to the Pronounced album and give Poison Whisky a listen. Tasty little bass line written by Leon Wilkinson but played by Edward Calhoun King. Think you may like it.
I love the tone on this track. What kind of strings do you use? I switched to flat wounds a few years ago on my main bass, but I decided it was time to change the strings on my five string... it had been a decade so it was probably time. :) I replaced the roundwounds on it with a new set (Ernie Ball Cobalts) and I *hated* them! Your motives are pure and commendable. But Skynyrd? Argh!
A good bass line is a good bass line...that's it.
To me Skynyrd was always Billy Carter to the Allman Bros Jimmy Carter. Saw them when they first came on the scene touring with Rod Stewart and Alvin Lee ( triple bill) that one dose lasted till this day.
Carry on oh bass leviathan !
Play what you will !
