In the 90’s, when I was in my 20’s and partying my ass off every night, I would set my alarm every Saturday night before bed (and sometimes I’d come home and just turn the TV on while the sun was coming up. Lol.) to get up EARLY Sunday morning because I absolutely could NOT miss CNN’s “Style with Elsa Klensch” where she talked about and showed the designers, Supermodels and clothing from the different runway shows in London, Paris, Milan and NYC. I was OBSESSED with The Trinity (Linda, Christy & Naomi) and knew everything about them ~ where they were from, how they got their start, who they were dating, etc. Damn, I miss those days. It was an incredible time like no other!
Thank you! The real supes ceased to exist ages ago, really. Though seeing Claudia on the runway recently, and looking incredible, was really refreshing. She was smiling, beaming, charismatic. No one does that now.
She is so beautiful and gorgeous and sexy. I have no idea why she didn't gain more attention from the public. Maybe there just wasn't enough room for one more?
Where are all the comments? This was an amazing documentary and it was so fabulous for someone who adores fashion to see so many beautiful creations over the years and all these extraordinarily beautiful women.
@@jujuherbst8094 they made all of us feel inadequate but that’s why they got paid the big bucks and I was more interested in the actual fashion than the models themselves
The thing about freedom 90 that was not discussed was the true meaning of the song....that this mv was George Michael's fight to be finally free from his Sony slave contract that tried to mold him into an image that was no longer him as an artist. That is the true reason he doesn't appear in this mv.
This is a well done documentary, but pretending that the recent social media clique are interesting or in the same universe as the real supers is absurd. They're dull, boring, forgettable and that's why they need to post 20 times per day, lol. The age of the Supermodel died long ago. These are just 3D mannequins with none of the charisma, lol. But the segments about the real models was great.

It's weird that people want to argue this point about supermodels. Very simply Naomi Christie Linda Cindy Tatiana. These five girls were crossed over into a combination of commercials, print, and runway which wasn't really done before, thus making them "supermodels". Versace was really the one who initiated it for marketing the girls and his clothing empire. It was very specific for the time 1988-1994 (?). A lot of people want to seem to debate this, and I can't figure out why. Envy?
@@katashley1031 She was out of this world beautiful in Freedom 90', like an angel really, her eyes were divine, but I dont think she was as complete as the other girls.

I grew up with Pat Cleveland, Beverly Johnson, and Naomi Sims being premier models. Then came Karen Alexander, Beverly Peele, and Veronia Webb. They were the classy and elegant ladies that the rest of the mainstream 80s models could never be. Of all the melinated models in the 80s that this documentary highlights, none are black Americans. But that's how it was... and probably still is. 🤷♀️ It's terrible Iman couldn't just have a regular background. the wide spread rumour was that she was 'found in the streets of famine-ridden and impoverished Ethiopia". Luna couldn't just be a regular girl from Detroit. I will say one thing about that: it was refreshing to not see those black American models back then strung out, prostituting, and being vile creatures with no manners ❤

It's nice to hear Carre Otis, she was a legendary model herself. The industry was cruel to her in its seedier aspects but wow she did some amazing work, especially for Vogue.
Paulina is never mentioned, she was on countless covers. She was off the charts too.

Supermodels are used so loosely these days. There are no supermodels today. They're just glorified working models.

Last supermodel for me would be Gisele.
I think Adut Akech might actually be a sculpture that has come to life.
There are no falsehoods in this post.
And when you see miles of ocean beaches buried in used clothing the fashion industry is pretty sickening.
Yasmeen Ghauri is so underrated

My favorites were Linda and Christy. I had all of their photos plastered on my bedroom walls. I still love them.
I was a male model in South beach in rhe late 90s. It was a unique extraordinary time.
Hope you had a great time and have now moved on to other pursuits. Best wishes!
I bet cocktails and lifetales with you would be fun and endlessly interesting! Let me know if you ever visit the Beltway
My all-time favorite model is Jean Shrimpton.
She really was incredibly beautiful. Great presence and style.
For all the fashionistas OBSESSED with fashion, like myself, this is THE OSCAR of documentaries!!!!! FABULOUSLY done ✅

Wow, this documentary is amazing. It should have more views.
What about Janice, Gia, Kim, Carol, Kelly, Brooke, Paulina… they were very successful during in the late 70s and the 80s
They were before the internet so they were all sadly forgotten
@giovanniyanez1388 90% of the models profiled here were before the Internet. Did you watch this?
Only so much you can show in 90 minutes.
