Ok, Naomi could walk, Cindy could attract those Midwest guys and Linda - she could be anything in front of a camera. You give her a task and she gives your a picture. She was always spectacular.
They all bring something different to the table, but Linda brings all of it wrapped up into one! She will always get you your picture, and look phenomenal doing it!! Her variations are spectacular!!
I still feel that Linda is in a class all her own... she made all her photos feel more like art. Exquisite and timeless and joyful. No one has left quite the same impression on the modeling industry.
Yes. Unlike her peers who were attached to a niche (Cindy being the All-American Bombshell, Christy being the Elegant Classic Beauty, Naomi being the Runway Queen and Diva, and Claudia being the Barbie and Blonde Bombshell), Linda was the Chameleon, because she simply did not have that one iconic look that made her Linda Evangelista. She was so versatile, and could transform into the character woman that every photographer and fashion designer envisioned. She was the ultimate canvass. So many people in the fashion industry have said how Linda was the best of the best. Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld, John Casablancas, Tim Blanks, Victoria Beckham, Amber Valletta, Karen Elson, Paulina Porizkova, Andre Leon Talley, Steven Miesel, etc. It's surprising yet humbling to see she doesn't see that in herself. She is the GOAT.
Dear Frederick: I agree with you absolutely. "Evangelista," "la Linda,"was always #1 among equals. It seemed your relationship with la Linda determined your standing in the fashion world of girl models. No one came close to her talents. Linda was the class, all by herself. The smartest person in the room doesn't have to try to be smart, they just are. Princess Diana just was. It never seemed to me that Linda Evangelista was trying to be Top Dog, she just was.
@@lissandrafreljord7913 You make me tear up. SHE doesn't see herself as the "best and the brightest," but we all knew who our Valedictorian was, it was not up for discussion, there was no contest. Linda Evangelista came on and the crowd was transfixed. She owned the room.
@JackMason-oq8lf so glad I'm in the company of "Linda lovers" LOL! That girl has left an indelible impression on my years growing up, and made me believe her in every iconic look and photo. She is the model's model... Speaking of... I hope you bought the brilliant book "Linda by Steven " Iam a proud owner of a copy! 😁
@lissandrafreljord7913 so well said!! Linda certainly redefined the modeling world... not just by being pretty, but by being professional, dependable, and innovative. She morphed herself, and the industry, seamlessly. I love her most for that 🩵
Many models of the 80's and 90's made their mark, but Linda surpasses them all. She was the prima donna assoluta of the runway in her time, in the very best sense of the word. What an honor it is to have lived during her reign.
Linda changed it up constantly. Whether it be the hair color or the haircut, you never knew what you were going to get. What you got was something fabulous! She is the greatest supermodel we’ve ever had, and she deserves it!!
Yeah, Linda is simply in a class of her own. That said, I feel like the only model who could rival Linda's catalog was Tatjana Patitz. While she wasn't as experimental and chameleonic as Linda, by trying different hair colors, Tatjana had one of the most expressive eyes. She could easily manipulate them to express an array of emotions that touched your soul. Whether sadness, pain, anger, disillusionment, joy, mistrust, lust, etc. She had this magnetic intensity about her gaze that could easily put anyone under a spell of hypnosis. So sad she left us too soon. I wished she could've published a book with all the work she did with Peter Lindbergh and Herb Ritts. Those two photographers really knew how to capture her beauty in the best light. RIP Tatjana, RIP Peter, RIP Herb.
Name a better fashion duo!! I'll wait. So glad she trusted herself and her fashion family by returning and sharing her highlights. And there were many of them. BRAVA LINDA!!!!!!!! BRAVA TIM!!!!!!! That era was phenomenal and can't be replicated. IYKYK!!!!!!!!
So much nostalgia and melancholy on that stage. Today you can literally see and feel that fashion is just a cadaver now that Gen-z is dragging in the dirt! Kardashianas, Neoptism, Followers and Social Media have nothing to do with what they have experienced. I am old enough to remember fashion when it was relevant! Such glorious times
Southern Italian no less! I've always wondered, Northern or Southern? What a beautiful woman. Linda absolutely radiates. It's like she really knows who she is and what she's about. We share a birthday (May 10), and that fact has always been really special to me.
Her parents are from Pignataro Interamna, which is a town in Lazio (Central Italian region) near the border to Campania (Southern Italian region). I guess culturally, that town must be closer to Southern Italy. A lot of people said Linda looked like Sophia Loren, who coincidentally was born in Rome (Central Italy), but grew up in Naples (Southern Italy). Gina Lollobrigida was born in Lazio too. Central/Southern Italian beauties.
I'm glad she mentioned she liked her red hair the best out of all of her looks. I remember seeing her red hair for the first time in 1991. It was such a shocking look, and yet it worked so well on her. She really rocked it.
My 1st that Linda had a quiet sense of humor which brought out chuckles and laughter from me peppered thru out this interviewe. Another reason why I ❤❤❤everything Linda💕
Oh my great video thank you for sharing it! I will dare say that when Tim Blanks asked Linda if there were any pictures who showed the real Her I immidiatly thought Peter Lindbergh but then they were at a Linda by Steven Meisel event.
Thank you for this clip!!! An absolute joy for us super fans 👌 Linda and Tim have a long history of doing interviews (including an incredibly glam moment backstage at Chanel (?) with red hair in 1991) and Linda's openness and playfulness here is a testament to their history. Thank you Tim for discussing the work and using specific examples. It offers an insight into the creative process between Linda and Steven that no one else has bothered with. Very surprised to learn that the changing hair colors and styles weren't planned or calculated to create a stir. I love her even more if that's possible. And as another commenter wrote, no one else could pull off so many radically different transformations. That's why she's supreme.
For all the young people who missed the Super Model era of the 80s and 90s it really was great fun. Tim Blanks show The Fashion File was the best of the fashion media shows and some of the greatest segments were with Canada's very own Linda Evangelista. She brought a special quality to her job and turned it into art. I met her in 1992 when she came to Toronto for a Flare Magazine event. I can't believe it has been that long ago. I hope Linda continues to model and feels the good vibes we send her way.
Linda was multi-dimensional. That was her edge. My favorite inspiration of hers is the ‘Italian Goddess’. Her sultry ‘Sophia Loren’ was authentically Southern Italian.
Not only did Linda have all the attributes of the very best of her day, outstanding beauty, gorgeous carriage, and elegance, but she had one thing that made her stand apart ... she was never afraid to change it up and reinvent herself. Linda was the living evolution of the fashion model. I literally could not wait to see her on the catwalk or in a magazine spread, she generated such excitement. Just a brilliant career!
I have a 1996 vogue magazine which Linda is the front cover and she has RED HAIR, she poses in a red fake fur long coats still have it cause i want to make myself on of the coats
What her first photo with Steven made me realize is that she really didn't need the hair changes, to stand out, it's all in the bone structure, in the eyes, in the gums, I guess. It's not like she was "hiding behind" the long hair, because nothing can really upstage cheekbones like those, she could have a bridal veil over her face
She is art! I love that about the OG models. It was more than just modeling or looking beautiful it was being a subject for art. Now it's just about being hot and with plastic surgery, and botox models have lost their individuality. Also, could you imagine Linda In a silent film 😭 it would be exquisite.
@@yangtzeling7468 when put this way, yeah, the colour is a choice. I was talking only about the 'choice' of a garment. I can imagine she hates her black turtle neck at this point and she's eager to mix it up a little bit, but wearing babushka indoors is too extravagant for her.
Linda's turtle neck is to conceal the folds of skin on her neck. As for cosmetic tone choice her bumpy facial skin would be as side effect of that fat freezing procedure that went horribly wrong. As her interviewer in this clip quoted to her 'when you were a model!' I found this comment insulting too her! Linda 'is' a model and an icon supermodel from the 80's/90's and today she is also a role model. I commend Linda for telling her story, for not hiding herself away (why should she!), for she worked hard to maintain her career path. Her photos are stunning and she has every right to be proud of herself today. I never was a 'fan' of individual supermodels but I can recall them all...even Gia who many forget.

Christy was so racially ambiguous. She could be anyone with the right lighting.
My ALL TIME favorite. Just adore her. Linda was and is still the most beautiful.
I have this book and it is incredible. She is truly an icon.
Thumbs up for Barney's New York. What a store!! Linda's work for Barney's is legendary.

Did her own makeup! High level !

Linda put art in modelling, earning her place as a iconic supermodel
No other models did it because they couldn't pull it off - that is why Linda is the best! That is why she was dubbed "the Chameleon".
There's no best, she was right for the times

Another artist in her own right is Kristen McMenamy.
She was just as convincing during the grunge era, in her little Louise Brooks haircut.

She was so much better than Giselle Bündchen
THE Supermodel.
i hope he's deaf😂🎉 presentable😂
She’s the print work queen. Naomi’s print work is absolutely boring and one note compared to Linda’s. Naomi is mainly only stellar on the catwalk.
Why only mention Naomi? And Naomi was spectacular on all fronts, with less opportunities due to the fact that is black.
There are so MANY others that are capable of hair, make-up, photography, designing... but sadly (unsung/unseen)
Apparently Linda and Naomi are not close any more????
Italians lost their melanin in this country, my family on that side used to all be dark, they all past on.
Linda was a lot more olive skinned/tan in her younger days I think she avoids the Sun
Image are wonderful enough......
Talking of it, is not necessary at all.
I bet she wakes up early every morning nowadays eventhough if she didnt get paid 😅
16:15 She has a very monotonous tone of voice. Some models should not speak. It destroys the image
That skin coloured turtle neck was a very very bad choice.

Linda is Madonna in music industry. I’m pretty sure that nobody can beat her but her personality isn’t the best among her peers.🫢
