Scotland the Brave
(words Cliff Hanley [1950s], arrang. J. Ferguson, Jan. 2014)
110 bpm
V1.
C
Hark, where the night is falling.
Hear, hear the pipes a-calling,
F C G G7
loudly and proudly calling down through the glen.
C
Up where the hills are sleeping,
now feel the blood a-leaping,
F C G C
high as the spirits of the old Hieland men.
Chorus:
G
Towering in gallant fame,
C
Scotland my mountain hame!
F G
High may your proud standards gloriously wave.
C
Land of my high endeavour,
land of the shining river,
F C G C
land of my heart forever: Scotland the brave.
Interlude: C G C
V2.
Up in the misty Highlands,
out by the purple islands,
brave are the hearts that beat beneath Scottish skies.
Wild are the winds that meet you,
staunch are the friends that greet you,
kind as the love that shines from fair maidens' eyes.
Chorus:
V3.
Far off in sunlit places,
sad are the Scottish faces,
longing to feel the kiss of sweet Scottish rain.
Where tropic skies are beaming,
love sets the heart a-dreaming,
longing and dreaming of the homeland again.
Chorus: [repeat, and draw out final line]
Outro: F C G C
The chords and lyrics are in the video description for all of my videos. Thanks for stopping by!
Representing Clan Home here. Awesome rendition. Alba gu bràth, from California.
When I get a mandolin, I want to learn this. :)
AHHHH!!!! Loving the Dropkick Murphys shirt! :) And obviously your singing too. :)
Are you of Scottish heritage? Amazing, bro, this is probably one of the best covers I've heard of this song! Scotland's music is so similar to Irish music! :)
Thanks, Arnold. Yes, I'm of mixed Scottish and French heritage.
My heart is fuller and my joy is multiplied having heard you sing. I would travel far and wide to hear you in person. Thank you for sharing this gift.
You sing it better than most folk here in Scotland!
Alba gu bràth.
I would be interested in obtaining a hard copy of your CD, in the interests of sharing your music with some others who I feel would enjoy it.
I agree. Repost the original. both are excellent and should be up here. I liked the harmonica bit. I'm not normally a fan of the harmonica but...
This is a fantastic recording of a great song. Not sure how many times I've listened to you sing this; super!
This is so wonderful, I've never heard the song with lyrics before. Wow. Great job with the song, I can't even get over how impressed I am haha
nicely put together.Singing and mandolin work. Are you from the cornish area.
Thankyou from Cranbrook BC. Awsome ! Just enjoy what you do and have fun. You bring joy to others by your talent. THAT GREAT VOICE!😀👍🎵
Awesome, now you need to do the Corries' comedic version!
Anyone know where i can learn the intro picking to this?
Have just recently discovered you on UA-cam, Jesse. Since then, I have purchased "The Parting Glass" on iTunes. Is that your only CD to date? I would love to see this appear on a CD, and I would be interested to hear your rendition of "Eileen Og", if you're interested in trying. Make it known if you put another CD out, I'll be buying it.
This is the national anthem. Unfortunately. Flower of Scotland grew on the rugby field of murrayfield. But it's never been the official anthem
Уже который век
Меж гор и быстрых рек
Стоит, свой флаг поближе к небу неся,
Земля надежды нашей,
Земля тревоги нашей,
Земля отваги нашей,
Шотландия.
Thanks for the support. I re-recorded that song, along with many of my earlier versions.
Your voice is so good, I love your videos. Also I'm really into Dropkick Murphy's so that's cool too.
Excellent....I liked the clicky thing in this one. I think it works well because all the other instruments are in the higher frequency range.
You have a great voice.
I know this instrument is in front of you, it's your mandolin
Excellent
yer awsome man i love it
Please repost the original version you did of this song with guitar. It was so genuine and real.
I agree. That was the first version of the song I'd ever heard with lyrics. Nothing against the mandolin really but the guitar just had such a rich sound to it.
Jesse - superb! As a scot, 'preciate a fellow Celt doing one of my fave scottish songs justice
Wow great voice!
@Dpop Pop there again, you're from Canada - I thought you were Cornish cornish
awesome shirt!
Jesse you are the master of Anthem's official or unofficial. My favorites. Northwest Passage, O Canada and Scotland the Brave. Have you done the Star Spangled Banner? I'm off to look for it.
Hi TristanandIsolt, I haven't done that one yet, but it's on my radar.
@@BardofCornwall I'm an American and I don't think it's a great song, but you could probably make it sound good.
First song I learned on the pipes a long time ago. First time I've run into the words. Thanks so much. You have a great voice. I really enjoy listening to your music. Cheers.
Thanks for listening
Well, as a TF2 player always comes into my mind the moment when I charge into a bunch of enemies with a demoman and his fellow sticky launcher...

Hi Jesse, congratulations, this is and excellent version! Can I ask u where i can get ur original version of this song? the one u played with the guitar? thx and continue singing u are great!
Thanks for the support. That's my only album currently available. I only have a few hard copies left of my first CD.
I was looking for a good version that I could adapt to 5-string banjo for my own enjoyment. You are all that and more. I didn't even know the tune had lyrics until a few years ago. Thank you! I'm gonna hie on over to your website. Whoa, just when I thought it couldn't get any better; "Reilly's Daughter". You're fantastic!
Thanks for the support!
Amazing voice! Love all your vids....you're a very thorough teacher. Thanks for that.
Like some of the others have commented, I also found this video while searching out your previous version of this tune. It has been ages since I last watched your videos. It seems I have quite a bit of catching up to do. Thanks for sharing your talent with us all.

Hi what kind of harmonica do you use is scale c a good scale ?( I just found mine )!
Hi Uriel. I always play Hohner harmonicas. This one's in C. I'd go with C or G to start with.
Brilliant! You are a true artist!
Beautiful. A great tune on the mandolin. As a wannabe Scotsman, thanks! Slainte'!
awesome video keep up the amazing job
usually flower of Scotland is considered our unofficial national anthem but this is great too
This is the first time I've heard the lyrics to this song. Really enjoyed it. By the way, just how many instruments can you play? I've seen you play the guitar, mandelon, harmonica, and the hand drum. Keep playing and singing cause you are singing from the heart.
This is actually considered to be our second national anthem after 'Flower of Scotland' none the less, excellent version 👏
From a third Scotsman, with an Irish heritage...
Living In stirling, the most historic city in scotland 👍

Hi Szabo, I rerecorded my earliest videos several years back. I didn't keep copies of the old ones.
@@BardofCornwall So sorry to hear that, I just remember seeing it back in those days and someone even made a tribute to you playing the song. Still I am happy hear it in any way from you, it's just your voice to it fits better than any so far I've heard.
Thanks, and I'm from Cornwall, Canada.
That's where you get your nickname "The Bard of Cornwall!"
Listening to this on the A9 just passing Dalwhinnie on the way to Edinburgh.

Wow! I'm not sure what I'm impressed with the most, your singing or playing mandolin and harmonica at the same time. It was all excellent!
You have a captivating voice. Looking forward to hearing you at the Las Vegas event in November.
You should do a version of caledonia!! Great voice man
machts gut!
Excellent!
I think it's quite the feat, singing, mandolin and harmonica haha
Dang, I already liked it! I want to like it again!
Thanks, sir ; I just rocked another grand daughter to sleep by your tunes.
A very stirring song. Your version is wonderful. It strangely reminds me of American civil war music.
Karen Ronan
That's because this song was also sang by the Yanks, I think, but not sure. Remember that many of the American immigrants are originally English, Scottish and Irish.
In addition, a new version of the song was reaby an American band in the 50's, called "My Bonnie Lassie". :)
I didn't expect such a wonderful voice. Great job! Keep up the good work.
Do you know where I can get the tabs for the intro? I'm having trouble with the second half of it.
Did you ever find it?
So very well done. Makes me happy.
I listen to this waayyyy too much! I love it!
Hail Clan Ferguson
Awesome Tune
Awesome job! I didn't realize that it wasn't the official anthem. Good to know!
Wow

+Nick Burkey Hi Nick, yes, I believe so. It's in the key of C.
