i absolutely agree with the Pokemon you chose for the "least cooked", but some comments on Shroodle! The "tongue" is actually buck teeth, Shroodle is not based on a lemur, but rather on a shrew ("shroo"). Shrews are unique in that they are one of the only venomous mammals and produce a potent venom in their saliva in order to kill invertebrates and mice for food! that said, i LOVE your spidops and i wish they gave it something a bit more akin to your reimagining! the thin legs and pedipalps just look so nice
btw the fact that shroodle evolves into a lemur is because it's most likely based on a treeshrew, a species closely related to primates and resembles some of the most ancient primate fossils.
I love the reptilian take for Scovillain! One of my biggest gripes with it's original design was how it seemed to have no direction. It has lizard elements like the claws and the tail, but then has this bland humanoid body, and the two heads that just seem to be slapped on there with no thought. I love how the redesign has actual cohesion, and kinda looks like a badass grass version of Hydreigon.

Your change for Spidops nearly brought a tear to my eye. There was so much potential for Turountula, and they just went and botched it. Your design is what we needed.
There’s something really unsettling about Spidops official design, it looks like something you wouldn’t expect Pokémon to look like which makes it more unsettling when you see it in game. Same with the pepper plant based Pokémon, they feel like there’s a missing final evolution for them.
I kinda agree, they both look a bit empty and artificial which is super jarring compared to many final evos, especially given their menacing/predatory personalities.
There is a LOT I could go on about, but I really enjoyed watching this. Also, I want to say that I genuinely wish there were more artists (like you) who would "redesign" Pokemon WITHOUT throwing away the concepts entirely & changing the visual design's identity. I really hope this can become a reoccurring series on your channel!
Although I like how it looks, your Shroodle redesign doesn't really look like it could be Grafaiai's pre evolution. It looks more like another potential evolution for Shroodle since it's proportions are so similar to Grafaiai's. Maybe if you made it more similar in proportion to baby pokemon like pichu or Igglybuff I could buy it.
That’s fair, I was definitely more adverse to making it round just because of how much I disliked the original Shroodle. But I see what you mean! So many baby Pokémon are rounder in proportion that it’s hard to ignore that trope when designing one. Interesting how my own biases affect the redesign.
Love the changes you’ve made, this group of Pokémon youve chosen have disappointed me as I’ve been playing Scarlet- wishing so bad right now that your designs were the official ones instead! My favorite has gotta be Spidops, I loved its pre-evolution so much and was so disappointed by the evolution… BUT THIS REDESIGN IS FANTASTIC! It looks so much more natural and less awkward, fantastic job!!
As a big fan of Scovillain for it’s silly cartoon villain design, I really love your take on it. My one major problem with Scovillain was how it felt more like a middle stage than a final evolution, and your spin on it does a good job at remedying it.
Great work on all these! Spidops and Scovillain stood out to me in particular. If these were the designs in the game, I would’ve used them in a playthrough, even if their stats are not great.

That Spidops redesign gives me major gen 2 energy. Like it's a love child between a Scyther and an Ariados. Maybe it's the soft version of the colour values you used or the brush style or something else you used that gives it a very early days Sugimori style vibes. Kudos my guy!
I like your Ghouldengo design because it looks threatening enough that it could kill you, but not so threatening to completely remove the goofiness of original Ghouldengo.
Scovillian was super disappointing to me too. I love the concept so much but the execution feels boring and disjointed. I love your redesign, it makes way more sense!
I much prefer this design over the one we got, but I have to disagree. It still looks bulky and cumbersome and that's mainly because of the legs. We have a fairly realistic dinosaur body plan (albeit, very stylized and cartoony), but then the legs look like boneless cylinders with no distinct structure, as if they were inflatable tubes. They also stick out to towards the sides like a crocodile rather than downwards, which provides less leverage. Overall, it's good, but this one element is very distracting because it contrasts with the rest so heavily. Basically, just model the legs after a real spinosaurus and we're golden.
In my option Gholdengo looks fine the way he is. It’s on brand for Pokémon. And it also shows how the coins we were collecting were melted down etc. I like the other changes though
Yeah the only redesign I didn’t like was Gholdengo’s redesign, it just lost all of the personality. I get that Gimmighoul is a greedy coin gremlin and all but to me it evolving into Gholdengo seemed like it became good and turned over a new leaf especially since it has "Good As Gold" as an ability. Is Gholdengo’s design a bit bland? Sure, but the personality makes up for it in my opinion.

Spidops, Scovillain and Baxcalibar are really amazing!! I get they were going for an ice Godzilla for Baxcalibar but I feel they should have sticked to the Spinosaur theme they were going for
They weren't going for a Spinosaurus theme at all tho. The whole Frigibax line is based on Concavenator, a species of Theropod dinosaur found in Spain known for having a small spike-like hump on its back.
I'm way too attached to the Scovillian we got, but your redesign is good. Would work well as an evolution imo. I also prefer the Gholdengo we have. Your Shroodle and Spidops redesigns are perfect and I wish they were real. Mixed feelings on the Baxcalibur redesign.
Looking at your Goldengho I imagine when it sleeps the coins drop on the ground and the chest dropping as well, as you see the eye close, and when it has to move around, since it is a ghost type it could move around by bouncing around or just acting as a wave of coins, since I imagine that would be faster then keeping all those coin sin place

one thing i would do for baxcalibur is change the tail into a sword or add a sword stuck in the back these are all top tier just sad that pokemon is changing their way of making pokemon nowadays
Considering how Applin got a lot of attention from Gamefreak in the Gen 9 DLCs, just 1 generation after its introduction, I wouldnt be surprised if they did something similar for Scovillain, since it can very well get a third evo and become the Grass/Fire home run it deserved to be
I love all your redesigns except Shroodle, but I specially enjoy Spidops. It changes so little but improves it so much. I also like the desaturated pallet you picked, it reminds me of the Gen I artwork, particullary that of Scyther.
I will say, even though I like this new spidops, it loses a lot of its ogre spider inspiration. ogre spiders have two big front eyes and place their legs together, hence why the legs are ‘bundled’.
Holy hell that Shroodle redesign is WAY better. I woulda appreciated the new Pokemon more with these kinds of designs. If I'm not mistaken, the previous Pokemon designer was English. Perhaps you can take over the reigns now 🤣
-Shroodle is much better and cuter, love the messy paint look! -Spidops is also much cuter and better, I LOVED Taroundle, so seeing it evolve into... that was ehhh.. not the best feeling haha. -I LOVE Scovillain on its own and I don't think it needs a redesign but I still dig yours a lot. -The Goldhengo vibes are cool, though I do prefer the original, it's a silly guy and I love that haha.

I disagree with the base Shroodle design criticism - it's got a pretty clear visual concept, whereas Grafaiai's face resembles a rebellious mask, Shroodle is a cap, with its dome shaped body and that cute rounded snout! Also, another comment pointed out that it is based on a shrew, one of the only venomous mammals, which is also a neat inspiration for the design! I really prefer the original as it looks like a goofy little guy, kinda like a kid that got bullied in middle school, who evolves into the thuggish, rebel Grafaiai that we both know and love! However, I really enjoyed every other design, particularly Spidops, as you made it look genuinely cool, maybe a candidate for a Bug/Fighting to complete the triangle of Rabsca and Lokix. Keep up the good work! I just wanted to defend Shroodle, since I love the little guy as it is...

Critiques; -Shroodle looks a bit too much like the animal it’s based off. While official shroodle is too far, this shroodle doesn’t go far enough and is just a squirrel with paint on it -Spidops is cool but I would’ve kept some of the more militaristic features. Maybe a simplistic band between the eyes rather than just nothing. Also, I would keep the bottom legs bundled; it would imply that the Pokémon is nimble and fights using a mobility advantage and its own strategy, which it does. -Dragon Scovillain is cool, but the whole idea you completely missed is that it’s a mafioso pepper. It’s a gangster, too hot to handle. While this can kinda be seen in this scovillain, I feel like it needs to be humanoid for that personality to come through. Scov’s problem is that it’s the weird middle line between animalistic and humanoid, and needs to step off that line. You stepped onto Animalistic, but the concept would’ve come through better with humanoid. -While I mostly agree with your Baxcalibur, It A. Doesn’t really look pseudo-legendary to me, more fossil-pokemon like, and B. The whole sword back deal is its entire thing. Bax slides on its sword toward foes to finish them off. I really couldn’t see this remake doing that. I would go with a more wave-shaped crest. -I like the new gholdengo, but it feels way too similar to existing “it’s a ghost possessing an object” mons. That humanness that gholdengo oozes makes it unique among the roster. While this gholdengo is cool as a stand-alone design and as a mimic mon it comes through well, I would’ve instead integrated Mummy traits to Gholdengo and removed the weird hair, making it cooler but still having it be human like and friendly.
Shroodle: Not a fan. Looks too much like either an early concept for Grafaiai or someone drawing it from memory. Spidops: The only thing I like is the head being a bit more menacing than the official one. The thing holding it back is reducing the limbs to 6, as I think it the original had a unique way of walking that helped it stand out from other bug types. Scovillain: I would say that it is an improvement over the original since you changed the green head to yellow, the lack of arms is not doing it for me personally. Baxcalibur: A fine redesign, but looses charm when the original is a more obvious parallel to Godzilla based on posture, back plate, and coloring. Also when I saw it, I thought of 98 Goji/Zilla. Gholdengo: By making it more aggressive, it losses the original freildy charm in favor yet another ghost type. I admit that the use of the chest is a nice touch, but that is it.
While I like your gholdengo and all, it also misses the whole point of why Gholdengo is the way it is. It is the 1000th pokemon (which is why it needs a thousand coins to evolve) and being the Pokémon that's supposed to celebrate that accomplishment, it's probably better off to give it a more friendly charismatic charm instead rather than another malicious ghost type possesing an object like a bunch of other ghost types.
I feel that these designs miss the point on some stuff. For example scovillian. It looks cooler, but the heads no longer look like habaneros anymore for how the plant is vs how the neck and head structure of yours is. Also the original teeth are not actual teeth, they are pepper seeds, you just took them off with no reason. It looks cool, but it isn't a better design at all. I agree scovillian could use a redesign, but this ain't it. Also gholdengo, but that's not on you, that's on the translators. Gholdengo's Japanese name is Surfugo, it basically means "wealthy surfer" and that is exactly what gholdengo is, a surfer so wealthy that is literally made of gold. It is not a mimic, just a guy made of gold that likes to surf. PD. I actually think the designs are nice in general, just that the design loses some important features in the redesign. For example, I would love your scovillian design as a Dragon/Plant Mega scovillian if megas would still be a thing, but not as a redesign
i liked shroodle and scovillain. you mentioned needle legs for spidops, then proceeded not to give him needle legs. baxcalibur's coloring should've stayed, idk where you got the red from, and it broke too much away from the pre evos. i did not like your gholdengo

I'm a huge fan of the redesigns! Baxcaliber was a huge disappointment for me, I would've loved it with a design like yours. And I don't think you failed the execution either, while they don't look like they were drawn in the Pokemon art style, they could certainly pass as official renders for some other game!
Yeah definitely trying to get closer to the Pokémon style, but for any artist I think it’s far more important to do something high-quality in YOUR own style while clearly articulating why it would work in Pokémon. Strong design philosophy is far more important than an imitative style.
Most of these are very good, but the Spidops design is lacking the main feature of the normal one, which is that it's an ogre spider. the new face does not look like an ogre spider, and neither does the lack of 8 legs and the shorter leg size. I'm sorry if that came across as a little harsh, but I don't understand the point of keeping the main secondary concepts for a design and completely forgoing the animal's genus that it is meant to represent. no hard feelings though, I just think the design is missing the point a little bit.
Wow, I was excited for this video because three of these pokèmon I think could use redesigns but I have problems with every one of these designs. Instead of just complaining, let me just calmly state what I think could be improved. Shroodle: my main problem is that you completely disregarded the shrew inspiration. It makes it feel more like a Grafaiai redesign than a shroodle. The proportions could be improved by increasing the size of the head and decreasing the size of the body to make it appear smaller. One more thing, the colors are way too busy to evolve into a more concentrated design. Spidops: one of the big draws for the original design for people who enjoy it is that it was the first true spider with eight legs, so you getting rid of two of them isn’t great. The end of the arms are two rounded for a design made to be sleek (and they kind of look like leaves), and it could help to bring back the yellow dot at the end of the arms of the original for a place for the silk to come out of. And where did the second arm on the left side go? It’s confusing to look at. But, for some praise, the face looks very good. Scovillan: the best redesign of the bunch but I still have a few problems. The colors on the tail look a bit haphazard and I think it could be fixed by adding those colors to the legs or potential added arms to help with variety. Keeping both the differing personalities and seed teeth from the original design would be nice, too, seeing as those or many peoples favorite part of the original design. Baxcalibur: the red underbelly and apparent flames on the wrists really make it look like a fire type and it doesn’t really mesh well color wise. The pattern on the tail makes it look like it is oriented in a weird way so, changing the placement to be along the side could help a lot. The Kaiju inspiration is practically gone but considering I kind of hated that inspiration to begin with, I’m not complaining. Goldengo: this is much better but that’s a low bar too pass. The rounded shape still makes it look friendly so, using the rigid size of a coin could help. You could also implement the teeth of a mimic by having coins fall out of the chest which should also make it more intimidating. That is my opinions on these redesigns and idea that I think would improve them. I hope you got something from all of this.
The work you put into these redesigns as well as the descriptions for each one is really cool. Spidops’ redesign looks really great and more like Tarountula. Shroodle looks a lot like Mort from Madagascar and Grafaiai. Baxcalibur looks great but I thing the proportions are a bit too similar to Arctibax. But that Scovillan redesign was flawless. Really the only redesign I was not a huge fan of is Gholdingo. Granted it’s an improvement over the original but I would of liked to see more of a “reward” Pokémon since it is very hard to evolve. Maybe it could have a mischievous but fun mimic head and it’s body is golden but you could see the ectoplasm of the ghost seeping through.
Cool ideas! I do think I've grown too attached to the originals. I like your redesigns, but I do feel the originals have some odd charm to them. Original Gholdengo I am still not a fan of, though, so I think your redeisgn is cool! But at the same time, I feel like it looks too sinister to go with the "Heart of Gold" theme

Spidops, Scovillain and Baxcalibar are really amazing!! I get they were going for an ice Godzilla for Baxcalibar but I feel they should have sticked to the Spinosaur theme they were going for

They weren't going for a Spinosaurus theme at all tho. The whole Frigibax line is based on Concavenator, a species of Theropod dinosaur found in Spain known for having a small spike-like hump on its back.

I'm way too attached to the Scovillian we got, but your redesign is good. Would work well as an evolution imo. I also prefer the Gholdengo we have. Your Shroodle and Spidops redesigns are perfect and I wish they were real. Mixed feelings on the Baxcalibur redesign.

Looking at your Goldengho I imagine when it sleeps the coins drop on the ground and the chest dropping as well, as you see the eye close, and when it has to move around, since it is a ghost type it could move around by bouncing around or just acting as a wave of coins, since I imagine that would be faster then keeping all those coin sin place

@@TamValleyProductions It would make sense, since we see with Goldengho how it just kinda forms its board, logically the rest of the coins would do the same, and since the brains/pre evo is in the chest, the rest would just be controlled by ghost energy
one thing i would do for baxcalibur is change the tail into a sword or add a sword stuck in the back

Considering how Applin got a lot of attention from Gamefreak in the Gen 9 DLCs, just 1 generation after its introduction, I wouldnt be surprised if they did something similar for Scovillain, since it can very well get a third evo and become the Grass/Fire home run it deserved to be
I love all your redesigns except Shroodle, but I specially enjoy Spidops. It changes so little but improves it so much. I also like the desaturated pallet you picked, it reminds me of the Gen I artwork, particullary that of Scyther.

I will say, even though I like this new spidops, it loses a lot of its ogre spider inspiration. ogre spiders have two big front eyes and place their legs together, hence why the legs are ‘bundled’.
Holy hell that Shroodle redesign is WAY better. I woulda appreciated the new Pokemon more with these kinds of designs. If I'm not mistaken, the previous Pokemon designer was English. Perhaps you can take over the reigns now 🤣

Spidops resembles every spider creature and now lacked aspects of the Special Ops. The eyes and it's torso gave it away but not executed right.

I disagree with the base Shroodle design criticism - it's got a pretty clear visual concept, whereas Grafaiai's face resembles a rebellious mask, Shroodle is a cap, with its dome shaped body and that cute rounded snout! Also, another comment pointed out that it is based on a shrew, one of the only venomous mammals, which is also a neat inspiration for the design! I really prefer the original as it looks like a goofy little guy, kinda like a kid that got bullied in middle school, who evolves into the thuggish, rebel Grafaiai that we both know and love! However, I really enjoyed every other design, particularly Spidops, as you made it look genuinely cool, maybe a candidate for a Bug/Fighting to complete the triangle of Rabsca and Lokix. Keep up the good work! I just wanted to defend Shroodle, since I love the little guy as it is...

Baxcalibur is my favorite Pseudo legend for what it is but i appreciate the redesign, however, i think it'd work more if they made it stand on 4's.
I don't think Spidops or Baxcalibur needed any changes at all, but your Scovillain and Shroodle are good. I have mixed feelings on this Gholdengo, but it's still an improvement on the old one.

Critiques;
-Shroodle looks a bit too much like the animal it’s based off. While official shroodle is too far, this shroodle doesn’t go far enough and is just a squirrel with paint on it
-Spidops is cool but I would’ve kept some of the more militaristic features. Maybe a simplistic band between the eyes rather than just nothing. Also, I would keep the bottom legs bundled; it would imply that the Pokémon is nimble and fights using a mobility advantage and its own strategy, which it does.
-Dragon Scovillain is cool, but the whole idea you completely missed is that it’s a mafioso pepper. It’s a gangster, too hot to handle. While this can kinda be seen in this scovillain, I feel like it needs to be humanoid for that personality to come through. Scov’s problem is that it’s the weird middle line between animalistic and humanoid, and needs to step off that line. You stepped onto Animalistic, but the concept would’ve come through better with humanoid.
-While I mostly agree with your Baxcalibur, It A. Doesn’t really look pseudo-legendary to me, more fossil-pokemon like, and B. The whole sword back deal is its entire thing. Bax slides on its sword toward foes to finish them off. I really couldn’t see this remake doing that. I would go with a more wave-shaped crest.
-I like the new gholdengo, but it feels way too similar to existing “it’s a ghost possessing an object” mons. That humanness that gholdengo oozes makes it unique among the roster. While this gholdengo is cool as a stand-alone design and as a mimic mon it comes through well, I would’ve instead integrated Mummy traits to Gholdengo and removed the weird hair, making it cooler but still having it be human like and friendly.
Shroodle: Not a fan. Looks too much like either an early concept for Grafaiai or someone drawing it from memory.
Spidops: The only thing I like is the head being a bit more menacing than the official one. The thing holding it back is reducing the limbs to 6, as I think it the original had a unique way of walking that helped it stand out from other bug types.
Scovillain: I would say that it is an improvement over the original since you changed the green head to yellow, the lack of arms is not doing it for me personally.
Baxcalibur: A fine redesign, but looses charm when the original is a more obvious parallel to Godzilla based on posture, back plate, and coloring. Also when I saw it, I thought of 98 Goji/Zilla.
Gholdengo: By making it more aggressive, it losses the original freildy charm in favor yet another ghost type. I admit that the use of the chest is a nice touch, but that is it.
While I like your gholdengo and all, it also misses the whole point of why Gholdengo is the way it is. It is the 1000th pokemon (which is why it needs a thousand coins to evolve) and being the Pokémon that's supposed to celebrate that accomplishment, it's probably better off to give it a more friendly charismatic charm instead rather than another malicious ghost type possesing an object like a bunch of other ghost types.
I feel that these designs miss the point on some stuff. For example scovillian. It looks cooler, but the heads no longer look like habaneros anymore for how the plant is vs how the neck and head structure of yours is. Also the original teeth are not actual teeth, they are pepper seeds, you just took them off with no reason. It looks cool, but it isn't a better design at all. I agree scovillian could use a redesign, but this ain't it.
Also gholdengo, but that's not on you, that's on the translators. Gholdengo's Japanese name is Surfugo, it basically means "wealthy surfer" and that is exactly what gholdengo is, a surfer so wealthy that is literally made of gold. It is not a mimic, just a guy made of gold that likes to surf.
PD. I actually think the designs are nice in general, just that the design loses some important features in the redesign. For example, I would love your scovillian design as a Dragon/Plant Mega scovillian if megas would still be a thing, but not as a redesign
i liked shroodle and scovillain. you mentioned needle legs for spidops, then proceeded not to give him needle legs. baxcalibur's coloring should've stayed, idk where you got the red from, and it broke too much away from the pre evos. i did not like your gholdengo
10:25 Baxcalibur lost too much of his blade/sword like characteristics, his name would be meaningless with this redesign despite it lookiing really good. Maybe make his tail look swordlike?
That gholdengo looks so much better, actually like a Pokémon. It’s fun seeing the designers expand on traditional Pokémon designs but there really needs to be someone to redline stuff

I'm a huge fan of the redesigns! Baxcaliber was a huge disappointment for me, I would've loved it with a design like yours. And I don't think you failed the execution either, while they don't look like they were drawn in the Pokemon art style, they could certainly pass as official renders for some other game!
Yeah definitely trying to get closer to the Pokémon style, but for any artist I think it’s far more important to do something high-quality in YOUR own style while clearly articulating why it would work in Pokémon. Strong design philosophy is far more important than an imitative style.

Most of these are very good, but the Spidops design is lacking the main feature of the normal one, which is that it's an ogre spider. the new face does not look like an ogre spider, and neither does the lack of 8 legs and the shorter leg size. I'm sorry if that came across as a little harsh, but I don't understand the point of keeping the main secondary concepts for a design and completely forgoing the animal's genus that it is meant to represent. no hard feelings though, I just think the design is missing the point a little bit.

Wow, I was excited for this video because three of these pokèmon I think could use redesigns but I have problems with every one of these designs. Instead of just complaining, let me just calmly state what I think could be improved.
Shroodle: my main problem is that you completely disregarded the shrew inspiration. It makes it feel more like a Grafaiai redesign than a shroodle. The proportions could be improved by increasing the size of the head and decreasing the size of the body to make it appear smaller. One more thing, the colors are way too busy to evolve into a more concentrated design.
Spidops: one of the big draws for the original design for people who enjoy it is that it was the first true spider with eight legs, so you getting rid of two of them isn’t great. The end of the arms are two rounded for a design made to be sleek (and they kind of look like leaves), and it could help to bring back the yellow dot at the end of the arms of the original for a place for the silk to come out of. And where did the second arm on the left side go? It’s confusing to look at. But, for some praise, the face looks very good.
Scovillan: the best redesign of the bunch but I still have a few problems. The colors on the tail look a bit haphazard and I think it could be fixed by adding those colors to the legs or potential added arms to help with variety. Keeping both the differing personalities and seed teeth from the original design would be nice, too, seeing as those or many peoples favorite part of the original design.
Baxcalibur: the red underbelly and apparent flames on the wrists really make it look like a fire type and it doesn’t really mesh well color wise. The pattern on the tail makes it look like it is oriented in a weird way so, changing the placement to be along the side could help a lot. The Kaiju inspiration is practically gone but considering I kind of hated that inspiration to begin with, I’m not complaining.
Goldengo: this is much better but that’s a low bar too pass. The rounded shape still makes it look friendly so, using the rigid size of a coin could help. You could also implement the teeth of a mimic by having coins fall out of the chest which should also make it more intimidating.
That is my opinions on these redesigns and idea that I think would improve them. I hope you got something from all of this.

Right, it’s way too abstract and plain confusing. I couldn’t figure out it was a prevo to Grafaiai for quite some time.
The work you put into these redesigns as well as the descriptions for each one is really cool. Spidops’ redesign looks really great and more like Tarountula. Shroodle looks a lot like Mort from Madagascar and Grafaiai. Baxcalibur looks great but I thing the proportions are a bit too similar to Arctibax. But that Scovillan redesign was flawless. Really the only redesign I was not a huge fan of is Gholdingo. Granted it’s an improvement over the original but I would of liked to see more of a “reward” Pokémon since it is very hard to evolve. Maybe it could have a mischievous but fun mimic head and it’s body is golden but you could see the ectoplasm of the ghost seeping through.

Cool ideas! I do think I've grown too attached to the originals. I like your redesigns, but I do feel the originals have some odd charm to them. Original Gholdengo I am still not a fan of, though, so I think your redeisgn is cool! But at the same time, I feel like it looks too sinister to go with the "Heart of Gold" theme
