Man I miss conrail so bad ill always remember in the early 90s in South fork Pennsylvania a crew stopped on the siding and let me (8years old) blow the horn and ring the bell like a Maniac for about 10minutes was definetly my fondest memory with my grandpa
Very nice! My grandma lives in Paulsboro, and her sister, Lois, lived in nearby Gibbstown with her husband, Leon, until they passed away. The house where they lived was right next to the railroad tracks, and every time I went down there, I’d sometimes wait for a freight train to come by. Great people they were, and I miss them everyday.
That was the former A-frame supported swing drawbridge, supposedly wrecked when ConRail tried to automate it's locking mechanism, formerly requiring its locking into place be manned. That peculiar structure you see is the supporting framework, for when this bridge is in the open position, allowing maritime traffic to flow. There is a video here on UA-cam showing a Conrail maintenance man closing and locking this bridge into position, preparing it to carry a train over the river, returning it back to its open position afterwards. It has since been replaced with a modern vertical lifting span.
Nope. It's an S-12 originally built for the Tennessee Valley Authority and acquired by SMS in 2002. The Amador Central had 2 Baldwin S-12's. #9 was built for Sharon Steel as their #1 before going to the AC, was active in the early 90's but was stripped for parts and scrapped in 1997. #10 was built for the T&NO (SP) as #105, renumbered to SP 2121, sold to the AC in 1972 and became the sole power of the Amador Foothills RR when the AC was sold off by the lumber company in 1999 and renamed. The railroad last ran in 2004, is now inactive and used by motorcar enthusiasts. At last report the 10 was still on the property inside the enginehouse at Martell. It is periodicaly started and moved to keep it operational.
Many thanks for your detailed informations. The blue color of the SMS - unit leaded me to my speculation... ;-) Great to hear that the AC nb. 10 had survived and is operational too nevertheless i´m glad about the SMS - engagement to work with the old rugged Baldwins. SMS - lines, M&E or D&L are good examples showing that other locomotive builders besides EMD had built rugged and longlife products too if they would get competent maintenanced.
I had no idea there were anymore Conrail blue units left, I thought they were all gone when 3026 and 5280 were repainted NS black within the last 2 years.

SW1's, SW2's and SW 1200's, IMO the best switchers. The best sounding if nothing else.
I should know the answer but what engine is this little switcher again?
Nice video! Especially cool catch of the 1700 in BLUE!
Penn Rail Videos Hnew
7:51 That horn... Great catch!
Superb! Thanks for sharing!
That's a very peculiar looking bridge...and protected by a smashboard signal, no less.

@@williamh.jarvis6795 That would explain the signal, thank you.
Many thanks for the great video. Could it be that the SLRS 200 Loco is a former Amador Central Baldwin ???

Used to work for the Southern Railroad of New Jersey.
jay odonnell they pay any money ?
Been so long I forget what I even made with them. The owner has died since I worked for them so I don't know who even owns the railroad now.
That air hose hangs too low, doesn't it?
yes it does! how much horsepower does a switcher have?
@@gareldfranklin5239 Could be 800 to 1000 HP. Enough.
@@scdevon some have 1200 hp like the Baldwin shown here road switchers start at 1500 hp
Sounded good!

There aren't. This is historical footage from 2000/2004.
Thanks for sharing, this is GOLD!!!!!!!
