- Topaz and Numby arrive as the second character for 1.4 and unlike the wave of units that came out before her, she's a bit stranger when it comes to where her placement in the meta is. Today we'll be analyzing Topaz's kit to see if she's worth pulling for or a skip.

She might have a gimmick, but in a game like this, I think it favours her more than it weighs her down. Reason being that any time as Hoyo releases more follow-up attack characters, Topaz's value will continue to increase due to Numby's action froward and Topaz's 50% vulnerability to follow-up attacks.
She may not be worth pulling right now compared to say Jing Liu or Daniel (unless of course you really like her character), but if Hoyo ever releases a Harmony or Nihility character that buffs follow-up attacks, or a hyper carry with on-demand follow-up attacks like Topaz, her value is going to skyrocket.
Anyway, personally I pulled for her because thick thighs save lives.
I honestly dont think thats the case, as shes mostly ST, the time we get a support that applies very good debuffs on enemies, her spot on team is gonna become more and more questionable

It's extremely easy to figure out who's meta and who's not by doing some calculations on a spreadsheet since dps numbers are mostly math unless your name is Clara or Qingque. What you're referring to as meta slaves are simply people who want their units to be good enough or at least close enough to the current best in slot. They also enjoy the cakes but it's functionality over appearance so they prefer their waifu being meta as well. If you can be happy with mostly appearance, good for you but it's perfectly reasonable to expect good functionality on a unit you spend your monthly savings on, whether it's in game currency or cash.

She's not that gimmicky at all. By herself she does competitive damage with Seele like the other Hunt 5 Star. Seele can't always reset vs bosses though. In situations where Seele can't reset Topaz out dpses her. This is with a team that doesn't take advantage of follow ups too.
With follow ups she can double Seele's damage vs single targets. The trick is to keep the mark on enemies with a fire weakness that she just one shot or keep it on the boss. If she one shots the unit then she can kill 2 units a turn like Seele can. She can also stack both hits on a boss to kill them faster. With follow ups you can double or triple her damage because the numby follow up is just her skill. She gets a free skill use every follow up and she can pick what unit gets hit with all her follow ups.
She's fun, but she doesn't rely on the gimmick to be viable. She works fine on a team by herself. She works better the more spammable follow ups are on your team. Characters like march or clara. She doesn't use a harmony slot on a team. She just sub dpses with a main dps. If your Fu Xuan is free you can use her to free the healing slot for a harmony. She uses very few skill points and can generate them if you want. Her basic can set off her follow up. So you get a skill use every turn no matter what.
She doesn't work as well with chars like Jing Yuan who use 1 strong follow up. She's still strong with him, but she's supporting him and they do less damage together than Clara Topaz will. Topaz has strong future proofing than most units do because the more future follow ups released the higher chances they can hyperscale her to ridiculous levels. She's definitely the most flexible hunt in the game.
She doesn't rely on being on teams with just her own element. She's best used on multi elemental teams. If you are a meta slave then they will never like a unit like her. To them a unit isn't viable if they don't use a harmony with them, but they forget that 2 dps beating on an enemy usually does more damage if they don't share skill points.
It feels like Topaz belongs the the sub-category of DPS characters known as the "drivers." Similar to Childe or Wanderer in Genshin, her job, on top of dishing out the pain, is to enable her teammates to do their jobs.
She's not just a driver though. She can swap roles pretty easily as her point use is extremely low. Her as a driver is with someone like Clara who can enable more follow ups for her. She can also sub DPS with someone like Himeko or Jing Yuan to make their follow ups hit a lot harder. She's similar to Hu Tao in Genshin. Hu Tao is strong as hell herself, but she also randomly gives her entire team a 12% crit rate buff. Only not even Hu Tao scales multiplicative like Topaz does.
Just like Kafka and DOT, she seems to me like a character that will be indirectly buffed whenever a new character focused on Follow-Up attacks is released. So if you enjoy this type of playstyle and are willing to invest in the long term, I think it would be a good idea to get Her.
except unlike Kafka, her dmg numbers is pretty low and being single target hurts the character. Also her best teams require 5 star units like Clara, Jing Yuan, Himeko
@@TetGodOfGamesuh, 25k per skill and 50k in burst without any buffer is low? Kafka deals exactly the same amount. Plus topaz improves with double Fups on team, plus she buffs Fups on teammates herself.
Show me a video of E0S1 Kafka dealing more damage than an E0S1 topaz.
P.s. I have an E6 kafka, I don't agree with your statement for E0S1 Kafka/topaz.
Also, one of topaz's best partners is Kafka herself. It's funny you are trying to mention standard 5*s like Clara, considering most players have her, either her, Jing yuan or Kafka. It's like saying Jingliu is bad because she needs bronya.
Topaz does Seele level damage by herself with no follow up support, The more follow ups you stack onto a team doubles or triples that. She scales multiplicative, but only with steady sustainable follow ups. Burst follow ups don't do a lot for her. So Himeko isn't actually good with her because she isn't sustainable enough for her follow ups. Unless your Himeko is a monster and can benefit enough from the extra damage for her follow ups.
The more follow ups your team utilizes the more multiplicative damage she will do. They don't have to be fire either. Her ulti turns all ally attacks into follow ups for her as well.
She's more fun than most other units too because creative team building gives her higher future potential. Despite all of the support she gives she is still a hunt 5 star. Her damage reflects this without follow ups. That said she still has follow ups herself.
Nothing about Topaz is weak. For how skill point efficient she is she is probably op.

Im missing Bronya, Himeko and Yanqing on my main account, and on my f2p account that I played from launch I only have two standard characters being Bronya and Yanqing. Idk what blud is yapping about but not everyone has Clara just as i dont have Bronya still. Also show me e0s1 Topaz doing 25k and 50k because that is clearly a lie and not true at all. e0s1 Kafka does with a good build if you have 4k attack, 134 spd by herself does more dmg thatn Topaz. Kafka doesnt need dot units to be good, but Topaz needs FU characters to be good. Tell me I am wrong because i am not.
^you're wrong. You can use her as a hypercarry with enough investment. You just need to not play her like an Unga bunga, as with dh and jingliu. Kafka also has more flexibility to not play all randomly to get big burst off, but she's hitting really hard for me
The more nihility units the more poison damage per Kafkas punch, Topass is good thought

They could come as in stat debuffers instead of DoT appliers.
@@supermariogamer5294There're stats debuffers. Only Sampo is a DoT exclusive. Guinaifen is a strong debuffer and you can cause a very good fire break damage with her normal break build and activating the DoTs with her.

Topaz really does feel more like a Nihility unit instead of a Hunt one, she’s a lot more supportive than hypercarry

just having some debuff in kit doesn't make character a nihility one like asta hook himeko and serval apply dot's and den with yan apply control debuffs
upcoming 4-6 future characters / banners are already leaked , you can go check for yourself instead of making speculations
Still saving up for version 1.5, but Topaz is definitely cool. Her role in the version's story quest was great, and definitely left an impression. Here's hoping she comes back whenever we get a new planet focused around the Interastral Peace Corporation.

I'm totally gonna pull for her, as I already have Jing Yuan, Himeko and Clara (and I love em all). I also have Asta and Tingyun already built, and Fu Xuan or Bailu/Lynx for survivability.
I think she'll be a pretty good flexible main DPS or sub-DPS for any follow-up attack unit, and she'll do crazy damage with the newest relic set.
I think for gacha games i prefer gimmick characters over just plain strong ones.
Sure i could use a ILDH hypercarry team and just demolish everything, but i find it more enjoyable to try out janky or weird team comps just to see how far i can push them.
Hoyo is also very good at planning ahead "futureproofing" characters, either by adding new game mechanics or releasing other characters to "solve" that niche(maybe a character that buffs "summons"), or making a new one where those previously weak characters can shine.
So while Topaz and Numby dont really have a "best" team right now, in the future we will have more options, just a matter of time.
She only needs Clara. Everything else is optional for a best team. Technically it's Fu Xuan, Clara, Topaz, and March.
@@YuyuHakurei I run the same team but with Asta instead of March. Frozen enemies means Clara can't counter often and Fu Xuan can solo sustain this team easily. Lynx is a good option too as a solo sustain if you have her But Fu Xuan is comfier.
@@kamicokrolock Problem is I'm using March for her tank benefits. She does tend to solo sustain the team even without relics right now. xD My Lynx and Fu Xuan are with Seele and Silver Wolf. My Team is actually March, Clara, Topaz, and Natasha. I usually only Freeze when I want a turn to set my shield back up. =3
I got E3 March. I'll E6 her eventually. If we get an interesting preservation in the future and I manage to get resources to level up more relics. Then I may switch.
Right now what happens is every Clara revenge tends to be a Topaz follow up. If it's not a boss they usually die and it switches to a new target to get revenge killed. Clara getting her follow ups buffed helps a lot too. March's shield with Clara's ulti basically gives Clara a 90% chance she's gonna get hit.
Another Preservation follow up attacker is unlikely unless that is what 5 star march is which is unlikely. However a Healer follow up attacker could give this team some more synergy. Another possibility is a Healer with a strong follow up attack buff or att% buff of some sort.

So obviously this video was released before Topaz got a massive amount of indirect support (Dr. Ration, Ruan Mei, FUA Relic Set, etc.), but one thing I don't understand is how Topaz "loses damage" when up against multiple enemies. That is simply untrue, especially because if you kill an enemy on Topaz's turn, Numby will automatically retarget another enemy, leading to no loss of damage. You could say that the damage loss comes if the original marked target is an add, not the main boss, but even that is very avoidable. If you are already playing Topaz as SP neutral or less, you are going to skill with her 1st turn anyways, and you can use this skill to reapply the mark on the correct target without losing damage.
Of course, it *is* true that other characters like Seele and Destruction units *gain* damage against multiple targets. But that doesn't effect Topaz's own damage.
With the new relic sets coming with the nihility and follow up attack I think it will buff her a lot
There is new Planar and Relic that focus on Follow-up attack. It's also stackable

@@EmenussGOamazingIt's absolutely not for Clara and it benefits Himeko and Jing Yuan more than Topaz, but since Topaz doesn't have a specific set it would probably still be better than 2p/2p, especially if you play Kafka so the cavern becomes more efficient to farm 🤔

I wasn't really aiming to pull for her after seeing the leak of the new characters' attack animations before the event/quest with her even came out...in fact the only one I gravitated towards was Guinafen because of the Ditings in her burst but then the patch came out and I became more and more interested in her each time we interacted in the game. In my head I kept saying "Damn it, stop making me pull for her!" every time, lol.
So yeah, up until this point I was just saving my jades since I was already quite content with the damage dealers and supports from the characters I already have but then I ended up spending my jade savings on her just because I became interested in her as a character rather than as a unit. Ah, man...

Nah I pulled for Seele finally, it was definitely worth the wait. Also… the spare resin mechanic was WAY more useful than I thought. I managed to max out all of Silver Wolf’s talents after hitting max resin!
I want to see more characters like Jing Yuan and Topaz with buddies that help out.

I'm gonna be the omega madlad and play Clara, Blade, Lynx and Topaz. It will either be the most glorious team comp or fall flat right at the gate.
I've been tempted to do something similar with Kafka over Blade. Kafka being nihility gets access to Resolution Shines, making her a pseudo-debuffer while also triggering Numby's action forward with her targeted once-per-turn follow-up. Not to mention she can deal a solid amount of personal damage just fully committing to attack and speed.

HP scaling destruction unit, so both Clara and Blade act as makeshift tanks, that has an aoe follow up attack.
@@RaffoPhantom it is unneeded. It is better to use support like pela or asta. Also blade's follow-up attacks are very rare
I guess Topaz is really really strong in a simulated Universe run when combined with Kafka and the Elation perks.
Topaz elation is some of the most disgusting stuff I've ever seen.

It's busted. Combine those 2 with Asta and you finish the entire boss before it gets a turn. Asta normal > Kafka follows up with a 400k > numby follows up with another 400k. 800k from a simple basic attack. Stonks indeed.
Topaz + Clara + Lynx/March + Tingyun/Asta will be the team that I want to try. Unfortunately, that will have to wait, because I still need to build Jingliu.

I'm running this with Lynx and Asta conversely (with Topaz ATK% boots) and it's very nice. Topaz and Clara constantly fight each other trying to be the main source of damage. xD

I love her character and design wise, and her gameplay interests me in how many combos it can achieve as the game progresses.
Currently playing Topaz Tingyun Asta FuXuan and it's very good, I'll get Clara from standard relatively soon so I'm happy with that too.
Weak: Pulling for Topaz because she's hot, despite being a tax collector.
Strong: Getting her BECAUSE she's a tax collector.

The reason I pull for her is that i"m so close to my guaranteed pity and I want Hanya and her Eido who will be released alongside an Erudition unit (which i personally are not into). So I pull for her since it;s clear follow up and dot will eventually shine with the release of the new relic. Got her and now i got alot of room to get Hanya without getting said Erudtition unit and then go for Ruan Mei and Dr. Ratio

I got her today and she's really fun to play and I love using her already and that's all I care about.
Considering how she plays, I’m kinda surprised they didn’t just make her an erudition unit when she’s basically already one, just single target. Maybe they just wanted a fire hunt character and didn’t want to wait any longer, but why her? Just a thought

i get it, topaz is support hunt, kafka is dps nihility. what if in the future, hoyo make dps preservation, dps abundance, support destruction, and healer harmony?
For some reason, a dps abundance is giving cancer to enemies.
Abundance could leach life from enemies or parasite them
If she would just buff follow up attack in general, she would have been much better, but only making one enemy vulnerable to it is meh. As a unit she can be overlooked for now and easily skipped to see how she holds.
She’d be broken if she buffed follow ups against all enemies mainly because she’s already a DPS, having high damage and insane supportive capabilities would be too much, so they had to limit her buff to one unit to prevent it from being too overpowered
@@samkelly5045 but unless played as hypercarry her damage is okay at best, and as a buffer she doesnt buff enough.

since none of the new 5 stars for next patch interest me, i decided to go for Topaz since i had a guarantee! (lost e1 Jingliu to Bailu lol rip) gonna grind stellar jades for the rest of the patch to try and get her lightcone too since it seems like a good investment (lol unintended joke) in future-proofing her since it has such a nice team-wide damage buff

Her meme can be those 2006-2010 screamer spam era where everyone was throwing fake car commercials at each other.
Gimmick? Far from it. Topaz works as a asteong sub dps support for teams that utilize follow up attacks as part of its kit.
Much like how Kafka adds much needed burst to dot based teams, Topaz gives a controlled single target answer to a strategy with limited control for the player and often strictly aoe damage.
Further, she explores a design space very much a part of honkai star rails core in follow up attacks. While not every follow up attacker will want topaz many teams that feature them will welcome the extra damage and support she brings to the table. Certain characters like himeko, clara, and blade are made that much stronger by topaz being on the field. All three struggle in single target scenarios and all three benefit greatly from the buffs provided by numby and his servant.
Blade and Clara are particularly notable as being a hunt characrer allows her partners to get more counters off by dint of abaorbing fewer attacks herself.
Theres a lot to go into and im excited to have her and her light cone to join claras group of aunties.
I'm gonna wait a day as I need a fire unit and her being a follow up support makes her a good long term unit but if I don't get many good units that use follow up she might be a waste
I pulled her specifically to run with my E1 Clara (standard banner only gives me Clara or her light cone. It's the " Clara banner"-.-). Clara is great except when you have a single target situation (boss with minions, minions get defeated, etc) and was struggling to pair her with a single target sub dps that didn't eat up skill points. Topaz really shines as a duo with Clara, but I would advise maybe waiting till a rerun for her if you only kinda want her and don't have Clara (or I guess Himeko or Jing Yuan) to pair her with as other units may have more value for your account.
I think units like this is why i like star rail. She's niche and that's good since some people might love how she plays while some don't. She's certainly not weak, but not a must get either, but if you end up with her she will be beneficial to you in multiple ways. Besides we haven't had any true dps+support characters in genshin at least comparing them to honkai impact's support dps characters so it's about time we get one in star rail.
Edit: btw love how the paths in hsr aren't as limiting as they initially seemed. Topaz is a single target dps, but also a support. Yukong is a support who also can be a real dps threat to the enemies if you chose to play her this way. Yes the paths are more limiting on characters abilities, but due to these limits every character has a role and sometimes they can play two roles at once.
People acting like if her having a "gimmick" is a negative, then again they doomposted Kafka as well and then she was stronger than Blade and all the other ones that came before her
I skipped both IL and Jingliu because I find their "just damage" kits uninteresting and in IL case, extremely boring on top of that
I saved up and got E1S1 Topaz, with Clara, Ting and Lynx or FX, they clear everything without issues, be it MoC 10 or SU
Topaz + Clara with Elation path is busted in SU, i did 620k follow ups with Numby today...and Numby does a lot of them while Clara clears any trash mobs easily
But the most important part for me, apart from Topaz being really hot and that i love her personality, is that she has utility, she allows other characters to shine, i can make quite a few teams with her instead of just the restricted "hypercarry stack as many buffs as you can" teams
She also has future prospects instead of being powercrept by the next broken Destruction character
People calling her mid most likely don't even know what is she capable off because they just blindly follow what some meta theory crafter said without even reading the skill descriptions, met quite a few of those myself
Topaz is amazing, she doesn't break the meta but I couldn't care less about that lol
The point is Kafka is only better than other dps in a full DoT team and having a gimmick isn’t bad but it severely limits what you can do team wise

I have way more options with Topaz even now, let alone if they will release more FuA characters in the future than IL does with him consuming all the SP and needing to be babysit by very specific characters that walk on eggshells around him
Not saying it is a bad way to play the game, to each their own but saying Topaz is mid because she has a different focus other than just pure dmg is kinda ridiculous imo
Youve said great points about topaz like with how her kit is designed, she looks more like a sub-dps/support character than a main dps. But u left it at that. SINCE you did say she can act like a support, she can be paired with other characters that mesh well with her kit. And with ppl like kafka, she can elevate the hell out of them. And basically covers for her short comings like multiple targets.
For people who like to have multiple dps’ on their team, topaz is a great pick!
topaz is hunt for the same reason serval is erudition, because hoyo doesn't want you using nihility LCs on them. so many of them are cracked.
Her actual job as a debt collector suits her as the Queen of follow-ups 😁

i have a couple of friends who are just, foaming at the mouth for her and have been saving for her since forever. and i just dont get it, like yeah shes attractive but they are taking it to another level for some reason when it comes to her

at least numby isnt so restricted and her normal attk also counts as follow up. fking jingyuan cant even add LL count with normal atk
For me the effectiveness of Topaz is dependent on me either getting Clara (I used my 300 standard pull on Bronya) or a future limited 5 star focused on follow up attacks that has better synergy than Jing Yuan

I opened 100 wishes and got 2 topaz and 1 Clara. I have a C1 Topaz and a C2 Clara and couldn't be happier. I posted a video on how thanks to Topaz in the simulated universe she absolutely MELTS (ironically) bosses. It is insane how much damage she deals.

Topaz Luocha Yukong Clara is a good team. The only problem is that Clara's counter attack doesn't always hit the enemy marked by Topaz.
Swap loucha with lynx, she is 100 times better

I pulled on Topaz's banner and lost my 50/50 to Clara, then kept going until I got her. By then, I had e5 Guinaifen, so I built pity on Seele's banner until I got one more copy and now I'm building Guinaifen instead. My thought was that I would want Topaz since I didn't have any fire DPS characters yet, but given my bountiful abundance of Guinaifen, I think Topaz is going to either stay benched or be overworld only for a few months.
Then I spent the tickets I got from ascending Guinaifen on standard and got Himeko, so I guess I really didn't need to pull for a 5* fire character after all. Go figure.

I pulled for Topaz and got her at 69 pulls so I think thats a sign for me to build her. Personally my team is March 7th, Himeko, Kafka and Topaz. The team build basically enables Numby Spam with DoT secondary damage conditions cause I run March with Trend of the Universal Market
What i've noticed in all the banners so far is when they have a Destruction character in an updates banner the other character in the update will have a gimmick. Blade and Kafka, Imbitor Lunae and Fu Xuan and now Jingliu and Topaz. Kafka is a DoT detonator, Fu Xuan is a damage res tank that takes damage for the team and Topaz is a hunt that encourages Follow-up attacks.
She seems like a mediocre DPS and Support meshed into 1 Hunt character which is also a downside. If you are a Waifu hunter, go for it, but do remember the next patches promise some great and wanted characters so be careful on your pulls, especially if you are f2p. Pulling for waifus is good and all, just don't gimp your account. They keep releasing harder content and it might be useful to not just pull for Waifus when they are gimmicky like Topaz.

Ever since I saw her kit was as a FUA suport/hunt i was looking to get her (mostly because i already run seele w/ my clara) and since I failed one my 50/50s on jingliu to e1 clara I immediately started re-building asta. Just wish I had a higher ranked swords play

I skipped Jingliu for Topaz and I have absolutely no regrets. She is gimmicky but that is honestly a positive point as it makes battles more fun than straightforward upfront DPS.
Besides, invoking the power of STONKS and watching your flying piggy delete enemies is massively satisfying.

I got her with 0 pity after pulling Jingliu... I just wanted to try and get HSR universe Yoimiya because Im particularly fond of DOT playstyles. Even before pulling Kafka and Sampo I was running Serval/Himeko in simulated universe on the Nihility path and watching Suspicion delete bosses
her and and my jing yuan just abosutley shred enemies. like himeko and herta on a team, or seele, the enemies just don't get to fight back LOL
im guessing topaz holds more value for my followup team than robin. still want both though

I mean, considering Argenti is coming in the next patch and he’s Erudition which has follow up attacks as one of their main features, so I think your on the right track
