    Lalter: appears out of nowhere*
    Fight
    Lose
    ''I will be back''
    Never appears again
proceeds to be one of the most neglected servants in the entire game
not only i KNOW she would have been a better servant if she were to be released nowadays, she would have been better used in story, the potential is there but they dont do anything with it

I think her Crown of the Stars CE is supposed to be a nod to her name being Pendragon, it was said that Uther didn’t take up the name Pendragon until he saw a comet passing by that was shaped like the head of a dragon which inspired him to make the name Pendragon which means “Dragon’s Head”.
I think the CE represents Artoria’s willingness to become her father’s successor not just because the people are counting on her to become a great ruler, but to also continue on her father’s legacy as a Pendragon.

Ywain, the actual son of Morgan Le Fay, and by extension the nephew of King Arthur, had a pet Lion the he took into battle, which earned the an epitaph along the lines ‘The Knight of the Lion’. With Morgan and Morgause being fused into a single character, this may be a way to give a nod to Ywain.

There is an actual in universe reason for why Artoria ate so much for a servant in Stay Night: Shirou wasnt a proper mage and couldn't supply Artoria with the amount of magical energy she would need to fight at her peak, she ate so much to basically replace the magical energy Shiro wasbt strong enough to provide

Artoria did not just fight Vortigern, but still subdued a bunch of petty knights after drawing the sword of selection. Small bits of that are scattered throughout the Fate Franchise with Rience and Pellionore being among those mentioned.
Rience was featured in a narration by Artoria (and graphically represented by a shadow outline of Gilgamesh) in Hollow Ataraxia. Riens (= Riens = Ryence = Ryones = Ryons = Rion(s) )had defeated many other kings and trimmed his coat with their cut-off beards. In Fate when he learned that "Arthur" (Artoria) had no beard he demand to have her Ahoge.
He also was the father of Britomart in Spencer's The Fairy Queen, so he is most likely the grandfather of the Britomart we have in FGO (since she is the daughter of the original one). It is the same scene that introduced the concept shown in Carnival Phantasm that getting rid of Artorias Ahoge turns her Alter, even without grail corruption, as a kind of defense mechanism - because her draconic nature makes the Ahoge her "reverse scale" (Gekirin).
Both Artoria's and Arthur's Excalibur have 13 seals.
The difference is that Arthur goes through the unlocking process confirmation most of the time he makes true name release whereas Artoria's seals seem to stay open once the condition has been cleared (until the condition is contradicted maybe?, one pof her interludes in FGO has her mentioned seals of her Excalibur being lifted).
Also interesting fact: Rhongomyniad did copy the concept of the thirteen seals from Excalibur (and that certainly must be true for Prototype and other Fate worlds) .
There are also a few more weapons of king Arthur that make appearances in Fate.
Secace is used (transformed into a sniper rifle) by Summer Salter (which in the versions it appears in becomes Lancelots weapon).
Carnwennan and Marmyadose (in some versions also formerly the sword of Rience ...) get mentioned too (e.g. in Caser Artoria's profile), but I assume those are left out because you said you would leave Castoria out.

One thing I will point out is that Saber also has seals on her Excalibur that are called “oaths” the main difference between these is that while Arthur has to reapply these seals Saber when she removes an oath it’s permanently removed at least until she is resumoned other than that good video

It may be good to note that for the lancer versions (especially in the Camelot singularity,) Goddess Rhongomyniad was immortal since Excalibur was never returned. Between both the 1k years that passed, the individual path she took after being unable to die, and effects from the lance is what led to her character acting as it did in the singularity. As for the identity of the "Tower at the End of the World", that seems to be inspired by a mix of Shakespeare's King Lear and future cultural changes from it like the Roland Dark Tower poem, which is still linked to British history though not Arthurian

Definitely this, and keep in mind, in Fate, most things that have a Legend are subject to additional changes/additions to the legend. For example, Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon: it has the "originals" or "Prototypes" of just about everything weapon or otherwise inside it, even futuristic tech. The idea is the treasury kept growing as the world did, as new legends did, and so what Gil could access when summoned grew and grew, and will continue to grow along with his legend. In the Same Manner, Rhongomyniad's legend and significance in other legends would amalgamate, making it FAR more than the real world counterpart was ever meant to be. Similarly, if you look into Grey's story from the Case Files series, you'll see a whole other angle to what came after Arthur's defeat, and let me tell ya, for me it Add(s) to the complexity of the Lance. (See what I did there? if not, no worries but to those who did, envision my cheeky grin!)
In any case, can't argue the metrics you used or the grades, thanks for the video and here's hoping good fortune finds you!

  • @duelist4512

    Ok a few things:
    ● Lancer Alter is specifically supposed to depict her in her apperance in the Wild Hunt.
    ● Rhongo is that strong because they mixed it's Legend with the Legend of Longinus, the Spear Percival uses. Considering it's supposed to be the spear that pierced Christ, it's extremely powerful when depicted in fiction. Rhongo took the more Divine and destructive aspects of the spears power while Percival took it's more Regenrative aspects, likely because his legend is linked to the holy grail.
●Before anybody reads this, Lostbelt 6 spoilers ahead, I repeat, Lostbelt 6 spoilers ahead, I am not responsible if you spoil yourself. Excalibur does play a pivotal role in Lostbelt 6, in a way. The chain of events that led to the Lostbelt taking place was percisely because Excalibur wasn't made in the first place. Caster Artoria was supposed to be a Sacrifice to make the weapon until Muramasa took her place. Excalibur, at least in fate, is supposed to be the strongest holy sword to battle against threats to humanity and is made up of the essence of humanity itself. This is why Artoria Caster was supposed to be a Sacrifice, it was supposed to use her experiences she had to craft the blade. Of course, in story we only got the essence of the sword.
●Castoria also has something that was recently added into the game that Excalibur should inherantly possess, an increase in damage to Threats to Humanity. This trait was added with Castoria so it makes sense why Excalibur doesn't have it. Proto Arthur has a representation of it with his Super Giant Power Mod, and you'll see what I mean once the Draco Event comes around. Funnily enough, certain enemies that should be threat to humanity, like Goetia, were never given the tag. Guess devs got lazy.
●Saber Alter isn't just supposed to be a more tyranical version of Artoria, it's supposed to be her if her personality was similar to Morgan. Sort of an alternate take to see what Morgan herself would be like as a ruler of Camalot. Hence, Excalibur Morgan's name.

    • @kylepessell1350
      @kylepessell1350 9 місяців тому +6

You would think that Saber Alter being evil would mean that all of her alter forms are evil but her Lancer Alter form is not Evil alignment but is in fact Good aligned. Also yeah they should definitely go back and add extra damage against threats to humanity to Excalibur at least since that's what it was specifically designed to do. Proto Arthur even does a whole chant about saving the world when using his.

I remember hearing a couple times about a story explaining the reason why Arthur decided to go out and find the grail in the first place was because he and all the knights had a shared dream where they saw the cup covered by a cloth on a table piled with food that (the apparently very hungry) Arthur happily chowed down on. So maybe Artoria’s Big Eater running gag was originally an over-exaggerated reference to that little tidbit, like with Roland and his streaking habit.

So that, paired with the gold inlays on her dress would clearly mark Artoria as royalty. A silly, nerdy detail to he sure, but that's why we're all here, right?

Artoria's Invisible Air does have some mythological basis as Uther Pendragon was a capable druid and invented one of the Three Great Enchantments of Britain, Shapeshifting, with Merlin's help (which is what allowed Uther to conecieve Arthur with Igraine) and taught it to Menw, one of the knights in King Arthur's band during Cullwch and Olwen. Menw was capable of making things seem invisible as if they were gusts of wind likely thanks to being taught the enchantment by Uther.
'Menw son of Teirgwaedd was called by Arthur, for if they should come into a pagan land he could cast a spell so that no one could see them, but they could see everyone.'
Since Merlin helped create it, he likely made the Bounded Field for Artoria to use in general to support her knights, but Artoria's sheer mana from the Dragon Reactor Core just made her use the wind as an offensive and mobility tool. Becoming a servant through the World has her use it to conceal Excalibur and fulfil its original intent.

8:25 The reason for this skill to be Dragon's Core is because she actually has a dragon in her mana circuits. As they breath out pure mana, Merlin sealed one in her mana circuits to basically make her have enough mana to use Excalibur (although that doesn't make much sense since she's still very dependent on her Master's mana despite having a theoretically infinite mana source)
As for Excalibur, as you said on the end of the section, it was first created to defeat the White Titan, which was causing rampage among deities, even killing what seems to be the strongest character in the Franchise in terms of raw power, Amaterasu. The Faeries of the beginning created this sword for this sole purpose. I've also heard some stuff about Merlin supervising the sword's forging, using a dragon's fire for it as well, but I think it's mostly from another version of the Arthurian legend than a fate thing
17:06 King Arthur was known for feasting a lot and bringing absurd amount of food during the multiple meals he provided (he was described as very generous multiple times), so even though I doubt that's the origine of Artoria being a big eater it's a pretty funny coincidence that could almost be related to it
For Rhongomyniad, I remember something as it being blessed by God in some myths. If we stretch it hard enough, that can make it for explaining why it's given so much importance. Maybe it's also linked to the fact that it was forged in a city got nicknamed "Merlin's fortress" or something similar, but it's really stretching it very hard and probably has no connexion to it at all. And even if it's all original from FGO, I still think Artoria Lancer is the best version of Artoria. I feel like she's a better written character than Artoria Saber, both in Camelot and outside Camelot. Artoria was always described as a terrible king, as someone who was taught to be a knight rather than a king. That's why she's named the king of knights. Tristan said it, "The king cannot understand the men's heart" (or something similar). Many blame Lancelot of the downfall of Camelot, and although it's true, Artoria still has at least 35% or 40% of blame on it. She neglected her own son and disapproved their blood relation (although that's understandable as Mordred wasn't really desired), and from as far as I've seen, it keeps happening while being Servants (see Artoria Archer's dialogue concerning Mordred Rider, although pretty funny she's literally asking us with what she should kill Mordred with as both NPs would pretty much kill Mordred), only exception being Prototype Arthur (and it's unsure seeing the dialogue concerning Mordred). The funny thing is that Mordred, while being threatened by Artoria Archer, is completely neglected in every other version of Artoria (Saber, Saber alter, both Rider Alter, Lancer and Lancer Alter), not having a single dialogue with the main Artoria.
It might be an unpopular opinion, but I think Artoria Saber is a missed opportunity to make a bad king regret how bad it was. We have a bit of it, but all Artoria regrets is Camelot's downfall, not even her reign. I do remember her putting her reign into question at some point, and it really should be explored more instead of only making her regret how it ended.
I also think the Artoria x Shirou relationship completely ruins Artoria entirely. It ruins the scene in Fate/Zero where Artoria discuss with Iskandar and Gilgamesh, it makes Artoria look pathetic to me, it clearly weakens her, and Shirou with his protagonist treatment and weakness only make it much worse. Shirou is to me one of the worst character in the Fate franchise in terms of writing, development and relationships. It really feels like the self-insert of a horny 15 years old boy. If I were to give a ranking for Artoria Saber and Shirou, and their relationship, I will give Artoria a C, Shirou an E and their relationship a F. But that's mostly my own opinion, I know the vaste majority love Shirou x Artoria despite how bad I think it is

@@CrazyYurie That's because she was shown she was wrong in what she wishes and because she had a bad Master. Artoria only started to care when she fought against Lancelot, and that's all. She never has any remorse on how other felt when she was king, that's completely forgotten in Stay Night. And she shouldn't have lost against Lancelot tbh, that's the dumbest victory Artoria ever had in the whole franchise

Something to note about Rhongomyniad in Fate seems to have some connection with trees. With its function as a divine construct that helps pin the texture on the world that is auspices. Particularly the various depictions and flashes of a knarled old tree wrapped around itself. To me this brings to mind the only norse and celtic tree that matters, Yggdrasil, the world tree.
Does this have any connection to arthur? Nope. None nadda. Arthur is mostly an old Welsh myth that was later adopted by the Anglos (the English) and has more in common with the heroes of Irish mythology than the norse conqurers who came later.
Then why do I bring it up? I just thought it was neat.

The poem of Pa gur begins as a dialogue between Arthur and Glewlwyd:
      ‘What man is the gatekeeper?’
      - ‘Glewlwyd Great Grasp;
      what man asks it?’
      - ‘Arthur and [or with] Cei the fair.'
      - ‘What [band] goes with you?’
      - ‘The best men in the world.’
      - ‘Into my house you will not come
      unless you vouch for them’
      - ‘I shall vouch for them,
      and you will see them,’
Many scholars interpret this as the magical ability of Arthue to make others invisible.
'I shall reveal them, and you shall see them' with reference to Arthur's men. Thomas Jones has brought attention to this word and has intriguingly argued in light of this that the sense of the passage should thus be taken as indicating that when Arthur and his followers arrive at the gate they are invisible and that, 'since Arthur promises to reveal them' so that the porter can 'see them', one of Arthur's "endowments' or magical gifts in the background story was the power to make his men invisible'. Certainly this fits well with the early and strong tradition that Arthur possessed an Otherworldly mantle called Gwenn ('white, pure, sacred, holy, Otherworldly') that granted invisibility (Jones,-; Bromwich,:; Bromwich and Evans, : xxxv; Ford,:). It also fits with the fact that in Culhwch one of Arthur's men, Menw son of Teirgwaedd, had this same ability. In the Triads (no. W) Menw is said to have been taught the, unspecified, 'Enchantment of Uthyr Pendragon' by Arthur's father himself - this might well be seen as significant in the present context (see further below on Uthyr, Bromwich, a:, -). This 'ability', if this can be taken as a reference to it, obviously implies that Arthur was considered to be a figure of magic and folklore by the author of Pa gur. It would also help confirm the picture drawn from the other sources of Arthur as someone inhabiting a world of magic and who may well possess supernatural characteristics himself, such as his potential giant-like stature.

Obviously, we all know that Lancer Artoria made a pact with Mephistopheles which allowed her to become Lalter and, therefore, belongs to F Hell.
Now seriously, although Camelot was a turning point in the writing of FGO, you would think that it would be better to use Lalter since she appeared some time later in the Lostbelts, right?
Nah. It seems that there is favoritism among Servants since Lalter had almost no relevant participation (despite being a Servant who appeared in Part 1 and many Servants from Part 1 received a more relevant role or corrected their personality)
This is not a Boudica case where she simply has had no relevant participation in the main story. Lalter appeared from time to time in the main story post-Part 1, but they did nothing with her (nor did they develop her as a character)

Still, personally, I doubt the changes (minus the gender flip) are significant enough to drop that by a whole letter grade cuz even those changes still remain somewhat rooted in the nature of Arthurian legend and the time they were made. Tho, admittedly this may be my Artoria bias speaking since these are grades for accuracy, and as such those changes have to be considered and reflected in the final grade and it's not like B is a bad grade by any stretch.

And now that we have Summer Ecchan we got 17 version of Artoria.
Also Artoria's whole "women cannot rule" plot was basically from Nasu's lack of European history knowledge. In Asia women cannot rule, because gender is more important than blood. In Europe it was bloodline. They prefer a legitimate daughter over a bastard son.
The reason why they decided to make Artoria a woman had more to do with marketing. Original idea of FSN had male Arthur and a female master, which we now know as Fate Prototype. But Nasu thought switchig their genders would make it more appealing for the audience. Of course we still have Proto Arthur in FGO which I am glad.
Artoria's dragon heritage is pretty lore deep and not just Fate lore. I suggest checking out Geoffrey of Monmouth's History of the King's of Britain. there is a story about a red and a white dragon where the red dragon sybolises the coming of King Arthur, while the white dragon symbolised the Saxons, an enemy, Arthur often fought against. Many past King's of Britain were personified as dragons too. And in some of Monmouth's manyscripts Arthur was associated with a golden dragon. the image of the red dragon we've seen in Fate and FGO is most likely a reference to Ddraig the red dragon of Wales which also often is depicted as a representation of Britain.
Btw Nasu mentioned that Artoria basically qualifies for every class except for Caster.
Your video was a fun watch, I totally agree on your take of Lartoria and Lalter.

Sure, though keep in mind that there's an insane amount of association between Arthur and dragons. Keeping the obvious of Pendragon aside, Arthur dreams of himself being an outright dragon in geoffrey and alliterative morte d'arthur. It's compounded further by the Faerie Queene where he also has a dragon helmet that even breathes fire to boot.

I believe it's also canon that part of why Arthur has the seals on his Excalibur compared to Artoria is Arthur is actually able to draw more power out of the sword
Again both of those I believe there is evidence for but I would need to do another lore dive to confirm because it has been a while and fandom head canon does sometimes slip in as supposed true canon
I want to know so much more about Guinevere in fate but I don't think we will because I think they want to leave it open to interpretation. For example I want to think she did care about Artoria but there really is no evidence of that and if anything if that was true they likely would have talked and the affair wouldn't have caused as many problems

Why didn’t Merlin decide to have her have a son who would be king or use his magic to ensure they were a male at birth?
