Sorry guys for not clarifying it was PC. We're not entirely sure how much of our audience plays on console! We're definitely going to get consoles down the line and do content on them so long as there's a desire for it. Like this post if you're a console player just so we know :)
What I like about Overwatch is that it differs from any other FPS in how it allows people like me, who SUCK at aiming, to actually play well with the amount of different projectiles and gameplay style.
+Overwatch Central Can you please not set Ryan as a narrator? Absolutely no hate for him, respect the work he's doing on the channel but it's hard for me to listen to him because of his accent.
It's up to you, if you can nail headshot with ease, then stick with it. If you find yourself constantly readjusting, or having other issues, then you need to tweak your setting. Everyone has a different setting, so don't fix what isn't broken.
I play with about 5550 dpi and a 7 in game and I hit fairly accurate. But that is probably because out side of game for work and stuff my mouse is set to 12000.
Thank you so much for making this video! I've been lamenting my poor weapon accuracy in game, and have just been practicing like crazy in the hopes of getting better. I had no idea that changing my computer's mouse settings could help, and I've now unchecked that pointer precision box. I should def get a mouse mat too. Love all your videos. Thanks again!
Some other really important tips: - Get a big monitor with good Hz (e.g. 27 inches, 144Hz). After making the switch from a tiny laptop screen, this alone increased my accuracy by 5-10%. - Strafe sparingly - don't just stand in place of course, but also don't spam the directional keys either. I find switching directions about every 1-2 seconds ideal. - Turn off crosshair bloom - this is more preferential, but I personally find the additional on-screen movement distracting. And generally, the smaller the crosshair, the better as it forces you to practice honing in on a smaller area of you target like the head. - Play a lot of Mayhem. This mode is a total clusterfuck but it's a great mode to help you master the heroes' various aim types and abilities.
hey guys , thank you so much for this guide, after making the changes you suggested and a couple of games to get warmed up and used to the new settings my accuracy improved dramatically , this is my first fps and im having a ton of fun and this makes the game waaaay more enjoyable keep up the good work your channel rocks
Does anybody else get random crashes when playing overwatch When i say crash i mean complete computer crash were it goes blackscreen and you have to shut down and restart the computer
I fixed my random crashes, I was using memory voltage not recommended for my CPU. (Recently swapped motherboard) Blizzardcs support on twitter was very knowledgeable and kind in pointing out my problem after they asked for my error report.
Not one person i know has any issues playing this game across 100s of different hardware configurations. You might consider 1- windows crash file (dump file) as a strong start point and 2- system logs examination for errors 3- Overwatch game log files Now you can start trouble shooting from the info you get from those sources
for me i feel completely comfortable with using 3250dpi and having the sensitivity set to 13 in-game, but i noticed when trying to play the game on my laptop with a 60hz monitor, as opposed to a 144hz monitor which i normally use, it all of a sudden became very difficult to aim properly. and also changing the crosshair to a green dot helped a lot, i went from averaging around 40-44% weapon accuracy to 47-50% on mccree. but im not sure if it was necessarily thanks to the crosshair, or if i just subconsciously cared a lot more about my aim after the change, since i was expecting to see an improvement.
didn't think about changing the colour of the crosshairs, thanks! I just got overwatch yesterday and I haven't played an fps in about 7 years, so aiming properly hasn't been very easy.
Suggestions on Videos: Ultimates. And when to use them. SHould you wait and pop for the magic moment? Or pop it off on the first 2-3 guy group you see and hope for the best?
a tip ive found useful (works for me but i havent seen others try it) is to up the mouse sensitivity to where it feels just too fast for you and play with that in quick play until you are used to it then change it down slightly when you feel used to it (this works for quickly improving your aim in an hour but wont really last in the long run
Giddyup on a $25 expense at the most.. on sale etc for $15 .. all for the hobby you spend so much time doing, it's like not having the gas money for that new car.. tsk tsk
I would absolutely love to see some practice range drills. I've gone in there a couple times, but I never know what to do so I always just default to practicing in quickplay.
You should do a video on little minor game play quirks certain heroes have that can give you little advantages here and there like the reaper melee reload. Love your work by the way guys!
It kinda triggers me how inaccurate the information in this video is. First of, Overwatch uses raw mouse input, which means it is NOT affected by windows settings (a plugin in this terms) what so ever. Fun fact: Mouse acceleration myth has not been a thing for probably 10 years. Close to ANY game ever created with ingame sensitivity slider uses raw inputs, as it would simply not work otherwise. Next up, claiming "most" pros is using 800 is wrong, its all personal preference, however the lower you go, the more accurate it gets with practice. This is why you would always as a player aim for 400. What really lost me is the fact that you want to do a 360 on the mousepad, as this has never been the case in any fps ever. 180* on one mousepad length, period. Instead of spreading false knowledge, talk about the real issues like what difference does 60-144-240 hz do, and how they affect gaming. There is no mention at all what resolution those settings are? 1080p 400 dpi is not the same sensitivity as 4k 400 dpi? What about pixelskipping?
Something that made a significant difference for me is this: Don't always hold down the trigger, fire individual shots/bursts when the target is actually under your reticle. This is especially true for Reaper, McCree, and Tracer. It's easy to just unload 8 shells with Reaper, but if you consider every shot, you'll get more juicy meatshots. As you improve, you'll be able to do it faster and faster, eventually hitting the max fire-rate. Tracer is similar, a magazine can potentially do 240 damage, enough to kill many classes. But if you miss half of it because you splurged it all out, instead of firing in bursts, it can mean the difference between life and death. Tracer and S76 also get reduced spread if they fire in bursts.
I've always played with FPS acceleration on. Perhaps I've just gotten used to the measurements, but when I need to slowly line up a shot, or spin around 180, I can use the same amount of mousepad space to do both, without changing anything else other than my reaction time. Feels good man.
I'm playing pretty well as McCree right now, though I sometimes get screwed by another McCree, when it comes to an 'A D A D' strafe duel... any tips when it comes to the movement of the mouse for that? I've been using palm grip, 400 dpi and 8 IGS. I was wondering if it's more productive to abandon moving the arm from the elbow and using the wrist for the small duels like that? I can't really figure out and learn from my mistakes, as these duels aren't too common, therefore hard to replicate to learn from. Thanks in advance for any advice :)!
Would love to see a training tips and drills as well as a character guide for Lucio as he is one of my mains and I would love some help on how to better support my team
So how does the whole turning the 'enhance pointer precision' off affect anything? Isn't it better to leave it on? Also, does it effect when using the mouse when not playing the game? I feel like this wasn't explained properly.
Just learned all of this a few weeks ago, but Overwatch my first "fps" game, but would love more content like this, even in more detail if possible. We want to get better than Seagull, and quick!! No time to waste!
I'd be interested in practice range drills, both generally and on a per character basis (starting with the more finicky characters like Widowmaker, Hanzo, Genji, etc). I'd also like to see some new/updated map and hero guides. Some of them are from back during the beta.
Do you have advanced tips? For example short, medium, and long range distances, hit-scan versus projectile, heroes with delays and heroes without, and compensating for your own dodging whilst aiming.
+Overwatch Central Do you guys recommend *against* using a trackball? I've got a fairly confined gaming space & found that was a better solution so far
You should be able to hold a target while strafing if you want true accuracy. Its well explained in a CS video, but strafe from about 25 or 20 feet away and see if you can hold a target and shoot at it
This was extremely useful to me. I had great game sense, but I was atrocious at aiming. These tips helped a lot. One question though, should I use lower than average dpi for snipers or higher dpi for tracer?
Great video guys! Thanks for the info. Please make a video about training methods for improving your accuracy, I think this a lot of us will really appreciate it.
Another tip that I use but takes a little practice is increasing the x sensitivity and decreasing it on y axis. you rarely look up more than 30% but a quick 180 degree spin is useful. Also rotate your mouse mat portrait. Its not for everyone but it works for me.
Wow. Thanks so much for this!!! As a former console gamer switching to pc i had the (quite commom, i think) misconception "the higher the dpi the better". So I was playing at 4000dpi with 55 ingame and of course i wasn't that accurate! But as I said, keyboard and mouse are new to me so i thought it just takes more getting used to. Now that I turned down to 800 dpi 10 ingame, boy at first that was uncomfortable. But after only 20mins of target practice i slowly get the hang of it and I already see improvements. Love you guys!
Thanks for mentioning the mouse DPI. I have seen another video addressing to turn off the windows enhancement, but no recommendation on a ballpark for the DPI to be at. As this is my first FPS game that I've cared about, I presently have my in-game sensitivity at 26 and my DPI at 1600. I thought I was used to it simply being fast, or in fact, needed it to be faster, but it seems like that isn't the case. So thank you.
Sensitivity switch: I use a relatively high standard sense but I have a "sniper button" on my mouse which lowers the dpi while the button is pressed. This works great. High speed flick aiming AND low sense precision. Best of both worlds. Generally you don't even need a mouse with a dedicated sniper button. E.g. the Logitech Gaming Software has a feature to bind the normal side buttons to work as a "sniper button" and I'm sure many other mouse drivers have this feature as well. Downside: You need muscle memory for two different dpi settings. However, I have found that this is something that one can get used to. Since I started doing this my McCree aim went up by 20% and I can still do the good old "Tracer blinks behind you 180 stun grenade" faster than any all out low sense player. I only wish there was a way to bind a keyboard key as a dpi switcher in the same way but I haven't found anything that works for me. Please let me know if you know of a way to do that!
Here is another one: To improve your aim with heroes that can score headshots, start a custom game, set it to skirmish and fill the opposing team with Hardmode Anas. Then set it to headshots only and stuff like 200% damage and 0% cooldowns if you would like these last ones. As Ana cannot score headshots and her sleep doesn't work in those settings, you basically have 6 strolling targetdummys that are quite a bit harder than the ones in the practicerange, to practice on. I've personally done this a couple times now and found that my accuracy with Widowmaker and McCree has gone up quite a bit, after a good hour practice.
I have a Dethadder chroma, my dpi is set to 1000 and in game is 10. seems to work pretty well I think. Don't know what average accuracy is for most people but I seem to fall anywhere between 38-45% on average I think, give or take.
Thanks guys, took in a lot of these tips myself. Another useful one I picked up from another channel suggested that along with the 10'' mouse pad; players ought to get used to using their wrist less when aiming, but rather keep the wrist straight and move from the elbow across the longer mouse pads. Thoughts?
2:38 This is my problem. This won't work unless I'm using like 2000 dpi which is too fast for me, but I have to keep picking up my mouse to swipe and turn. I have terrible tracking because of this and it just feels terrible. What do I do? I use a 800 dpi with like a 7-10 sens
Wonderful, so many helpful things. I'm an aspiring O.W.L. player and you guys deffiently know your things. P.S: Thank for not cursing and keeping it professional.
What I do alot is make a custom game filled with 'Hard' Ana on enemy team, put it on headshot only, game sound off, nice music on and practice headshotting with mcree. Youll get better at aiming and tracking since the bots on practice have big heads, when you do this it will make body shots automaticly easier to land
A really big tip that I'm surprised you guys didn't mention is to actually stare down your crosshair. Because Overwatch has so many distracting animations of your character's guns and hands and places your HUD all the way at the edges of the screen, it can be easy to lose focus on the crosshair, especially for inexperienced FPS players. It's worth noting that essentially everything you do is attached to that crosshair so you need to make sure to give it the majority of your attention.
Hey Overwatch Central Guys, i like your videos and content so much and i'd like to give a tip if you can make a video on it, if you choose soldier 76, and try to press the left button mouse repeatedly and fast, all the bullets will go exactly on the middle, and the cross-hair won't get wider, it will remain small as if you're not even shooting. It's a great trick because i use it alot, and i always get people so fast with this instead of just spraying and let the bullets shooting not accurately, this can also help people with the mouse controlling
my bros always said his biggest issue playing overwatch is aiming so this video will be great for him :D I could use some aiming improvement myself so ill definitely be trying some of these myself!
Here's two tips for your reticle ! The most contrasted colors are green, purple and red. You should try these out and play with the one that is most comfortable with you. The second tip is to bump up the contrast in video settings. It will make the colors clearer and so you will see your reticle way better than with default contrast setting
You forgot to mention one thing during the mouse aiming section. The pro's generally have VERY large mousepads and play differently than the general person. They physically swing there arm across there desk to flip 180 degrees in game. It's a huge learning curve the play this way, but you are way more accurate moving your entire arm 8 inches across your desk to aim rather than moving slightly by 8 cm trying to find that super small area. ALSO: another tip that should have been included. if someone is at medium to long distance away, don't aim with your mouse.. aim with A, and D stride left and right it's more accurate
How do people even play on 800 DPI and 8 in game sensitivity? Granted I was playing on 1200 DPI with mouse acceleration and 20 in game sensitivity before, but I was very comfortable with it and my aim is pretty good. At 800 DPI and 8 in game sensitivity looking around is so slow, I'm not sure how you're supposed to keep up with fast moving enemies. Maybe I just prefer higher sensitivity and looking around fast, or am I missing something here?
"Aiming is key in every fps game" 'reaper uses ult'
Bastion, The Point and Click Adventure.
that's what i thought
Better your aim, more damage you do, faster your ult charges and the more times you can press Q! Win win!
soldier uses ult xD
Soldier would have been a better example...
Sorry guys for not clarifying it was PC. We're not entirely sure how much of our audience plays on console! We're definitely going to get consoles down the line and do content on them so long as there's a desire for it.
Like this post if you're a console player just so we know :)
I liked
Let's just ignore the fact that people actually play a fps on consoles, can we?
No.
like
You did clarify "on pc" though. 0:32
What I like about Overwatch is that it differs from any other FPS in how it allows people like me, who SUCK at aiming, to actually play well with the amount of different projectiles and gameplay style.
Symmetra ftw
How to improve your aim
Pick mccree or soldier
Get ult
Profit
Slyrax you forgot symmetras rightclick follows
u mean left click
I'd be down with Overwatch Central practice range drills. Overwatch Boot Camp!
This would be awesome!
PLEASE!
***** You mean me? Yeah, I get that a lot. Especially if I take my glasses off. Haha
Miss these days, crazy how far you guys came
Hey, is the lore series still happening?
it is, just getting guests sorted :D
+Overwatch Central oh I tought it was dead :D
+Overwatch Central Can you please not set Ryan as a narrator? Absolutely no hate for him, respect the work he's doing on the channel but it's hard for me to listen to him because of his accent.
keen for it!
I really appreciate the direction and pace you take this channel at.
Id like that practice range drills vid!
wow that change in the mouse settings improved my aim so much, thanks guys
I play 800DPI and 4 Ingame I come from CSGO so that is fast for me? Should I try to change?
It's up to you, if you can nail headshot with ease, then stick with it. If you find yourself constantly readjusting, or having other issues, then you need to tweak your setting. Everyone has a different setting, so don't fix what isn't broken.
Try 3200 DPI
As for me its too low. I play at 1400dpi on mouse and 10 in game (lower for Hanzo and Widow) and I'm still accurate. It's personal.
I play with about 5550 dpi and a 7 in game and I hit fairly accurate. But that is probably because out side of game for work and stuff my mouse is set to 12000.
same dpi and sens here, used a calculator to generate my overwatch sens from my csgo sens xD
Some other really important tips:
- Get a big monitor with good Hz (e.g.
This mode is a total clusterfuck but it's a great mode to help you master the heroes' various aim types and abilities.
hey guys , thank you so much for this guide, after making the changes you suggested and a couple of games to get warmed up and used to the new settings my accuracy improved dramatically , this is my first fps and im having a ton of fun and this makes the game waaaay more enjoyable
keep up the good work your channel rocks
Does anybody else get random crashes when playing overwatch
When i say crash i mean complete computer crash were it goes blackscreen and you have to shut down and restart the computer
I only had 2 'crashes' were my hud was completely gone.
I keep getting kicked back to the main menu from time to time even tho all of my group members were able join the game
Nope, maybe your computer just can't handle the game
for me i feel completely comfortable with using 3250dpi and having the sensitivity set to 13 in-game, but i noticed when trying to play the game on my laptop with a 60hz monitor, as opposed to a 144hz monitor which i normally use, it all of a sudden became very difficult to aim properly. and also changing the crosshair to a green dot helped a lot, i went from averaging around 40-44% weapon accuracy to 47-50% on mccree. but im not sure if it was necessarily thanks to the crosshair, or if i just subconsciously cared a lot more about my aim after the change, since i was expecting to see an improvement.
I need to know how to improve my aim on my PS4 ;-;
there nothing easier than that
Ahhhahahaha. Its funny how fucking boring those comments are.
Okay on lower sensitivity. I lowered mine to 15 and I have a more stable shot
I'd really like you guys to do a video on the practice range's exercises!
I couldn't keep watching when u mentioned sensitivity
I'm fine thx for caring
that pun omg
Yeah, it's not like it's the most important part when it comes to aiming properly.
^^
that was so hidden i almost thought you were being legit about it lol
didn't think about changing the colour of the crosshairs, thanks! I just got overwatch yesterday and I haven't played an fps in about 7 years, so aiming properly hasn't been very easy.
Consoles is the only place where help aiming is even needed.
If you play on console you're doing it wrong to begin with.
He's right you know.
People have the right to play Peasantwatch if they so choose
Matheus Henrique
haha.
+Matheus Henrique not on the internet.
Suggestions on Videos: Ultimates. And when to use them. SHould you wait and pop for the magic moment? Or pop it off on the first 2-3 guy group you see and hope for the best?
Im sorry, did you say your name is.....noscope?
His name is Mysca. ^^
FOR THE LONGEST TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS NOSCOPE
+kyle I totally thought it was too!
ive always thought its noscope too :0
+sum gt Me too :()
a tip ive found useful (works for me but i havent seen others try it) is to up the mouse sensitivity to where it feels just too fast for you and play with that in quick play until you are used to it then change it down slightly when you feel used to it (this works for quickly improving your aim in an hour but wont really last in the long run
I play on 450 dpi and 7 sens in game. Why? Csgo
I play 3600 dpi. T_T
400 dpi. 0.75 sens.
+PyroTek we all do....
mousepad 5dollars
I played on 400 dpi 2.5 in cs go but this game definitely needs something faster than that imo. Currently using 400 dpi 15 in game for overwatch.
Aiming has always been my biggest weakness in any FPS, so I'm definitely gonna try these tips out to see if that doesn't help me.
I don't own a mousemat xD
same
ecks dee
Who uses mouse pads? Lol.
People who want their mouse to track well.
Wanna hear a joke? The first 5 words of the description.
Overwatch is a very fast?
haha
Oh he changed it lmao, it first said "Overwatch is a tough FPS"
Just edit the comment, no one will notice
I would really love a video about practice range training drills!
How good your aim in this game depends how many hours you spent on tf2.
I have 300 hours in tf2... I have better than average aim
300 hours into any game is not that much Tbh. Especially if it is 300 hours playing with sub-optimal settings.
I was a competitive player with 2k hours in tf2, Youre really wrong sir, Ow is way far to being tf2, Feels so different
guys your aim transfers to this game really well and OW has a lower skill ceiling, so yea.
Nope. I have like 1.6k hours in TF2...
Can't hit anything in this game. McCree is Ambassador pretty much, but it is still hard.
You should do a video on little minor game play quirks certain heroes have that can give you little advantages here and there like the reaper melee reload. Love your work by the way guys!

I agree with the fact that their telling us what to use - we don't NEED to be able to do a 360. But i kinda beg to differ about 400 dpi is the usual .

As someone who has never really played FPS games on PC, I'd really like to see you guys make a Practice Range Training video.

Fantastic! Thank you!. You guys have improved my game so much with these videos. Keep up the great work!
Would love to see a training tips and drills as well as a character guide for Lucio as he is one of my mains and I would love some help on how to better support my team
The first tip really help me a lot, Thank you so much
I tried this out. I went from 40%~ winrates for most characters to around 65%~
Foolishly, I had my sensitivity around 50. THANK YOU SO MUCH
watched just out of bordem, but actually I hadn't known about the windows "enhance pointer precision" option. thanks guys
Would definitely be curious what kind of drills you recommend.
So how does the whole turning the 'enhance pointer precision' off affect anything? Isn't it better to leave it on? Also, does it effect when using the mouse when not playing the game? I feel like this wasn't explained properly.

OK that play at the end with the tracer bomb. Feels like POTG there lol.

+Overwatch Central Do you guys recommend *against* using a trackball? I've got a fairly confined gaming space & found that was a better solution so far
Do you know any guides that specifically teach how to aim better with high to extremely high DPI settings?
The Acceleration tip literally helped me so much! I can now use widow And Soldier without feeling useless.
One question though, should I use lower than average dpi for snipers or higher dpi for tracer?
is it possible for you guys to do a controller sensitivity guide? or direct people to someone who has a good one?
What's your opinion on using a trackball for fast-paced games like Overwatch?
Great video guys! Thanks for the info. Please make a video about training methods for improving your accuracy, I think this a lot of us will really appreciate it.

I would love to see your 'practise range training drills'!
I know Cynical Nerds has already done one, but I think you could add more to it.
Any tips for reducing the ridiculous amount of mouse lag for anything below 200 FPS?
Didn't know about the individual mouse sensitivity settings, thanks! :)
I want to see a video on practice range training drills
Dude, that Enhance pointer precision off really turned my precision on!
I'd be down for a video about practice range training drills.
I definitely would like to see a video on practice drills.
I'd like to see a video about damage drop on all characters. when I play phara I feel like the rockets dose less dmg if I am far away as with mcree
Please do the practice range training drills
I'd love to see the practice range drills because I'm always going in the practice range.
I've personally done this a couple times now and found that my accuracy with Widowmaker and McCree has gone up quite a bit, after a good hour practice.
can you make a console version of this video? I'm looking for good ways to change my sensitivity for different characters
Thoughts?
I'm interested in the practice range drills +Overwatch Central
2:38 This is my problem. This won't work unless I'm using like 2000 dpi which is too fast for me, but I have to keep picking up my mouse to swipe and turn. I have terrible tracking because of this and it just feels terrible. What do I do? I use a 800 dpi with like a 7-10 sens
i use dpi 500 sens 5
Some practice Area drills would be very nice - I would certainly try them out and would love to have them ;-)
Wonderful, so many helpful things. I'm an aspiring O.W.L. player and you guys deffiently know your things.
P.S: Thank for not cursing and keeping it professional.
Definitely interested in training drills you'd recommend!
Is 1600 DPI and 7.5 in game a bit high for sensitivity?
yes, try lowering it and get used to it.
Thanks, I'm doing 1000 DPI at 6.5 in game. And I aim way better.
I've been using mouse acceleration my whole life apparently, is there any point turning it off now?
When you start with the more serious guides, could you please do longer and more technical hero guides?
I don't know if you necessarily need 360 degree movement for your mouse... I've always used 180 as a benchmark instead... Thoughts?
Hard to turn around quickly, someone like widow could kill you before you even saw her from behind.
+PyroTek I don't know, as long as you're comfortable with the speed of your 180, would it matter?
I got the overwatch razer xl mouse mat and it has helped so much. I pretty much turned my computer desk into a mouse pad. xD
I really appreciated this video. I learned a lot. Thanks guys
Here's two tips for your reticle ! The most contrasted colors are green, purple and red. You should try these out and play with the one that is most comfortable with you. The second tip is to bump up the contrast in video settings. It will make the colors clearer and so you will see your reticle way better than with default contrast setting
that Windows tip was the best tip I've ever gotten. thanks for the help lads.
Practice Range drills would be much appreciated! Thanks for the offer.
I don't really understand the first point about the mouse accelaration on windows, if I snap my mouse I want my cursor to move proportionally faster.
Maybe I just prefer higher sensitivity and looking around fast, or am I missing something here?
thanks for the tips. I think I'm pretty competent but there's always room for improvement
Any horizontal/vertical sensitivity tips for console?
I have a optical mouse, should I put it in 2.0 or 3.0 USB? for better tracking
Isn't soldier 76 with a dot reticle a bad idea? Can't see the increase in spread needed when tap firing.
Asal the spread starts increasing at around 4-5 bullets, medium fire rate is easy to tell when to stop and fire again
