Thank you so much for your suggestions. I have one orchid that is doing really well, but the other is dry. I love that you said to water as needed, not once a week. I'm trying your rehydration strategy to see if it helps. Many thanks.
Yup, works really well, I've even left them soaking for an hour or two if very dry (usually if I've been away on holiday with no one to water them). I make sure to drain the pot really well after soalking so there is no water left in the bottom of the decorative pot and they're absolutely fine. Also I prep before going on hols by doing a really good soalk before I go.
Regarding John Gardiner's comment... She isn't saying it wrong, you're hearing it wrong. Danni speaks beautiful English. She certainly pronounces water correctly. I've watched dozens of her videos, and believe me I'd notice. My mother was insistent that we children were articulate.
I have a 4 year old phalenopsis which has flowered at least 4 times. Last few montgs it's flowered with 8 blooms then put out 4 more buds on the tip. Last week I noticed an entirely new 9" flower stalk. But the lower leaves are going yellow, I presume all the energy is going into flowering. I burnt extra slots into the pot because I noticed condensation inside even 9 days after watering, I water every 2 weeks with rainwater. I'd like to replace the potting mix (orchid potting compound) with something more suitable, local forest has abundant spagnum moss, I can collect some to use but as I say I think the yellowing leaves are due to heavy flower production.
Great video, maybe one day I will have this issue and I will know where to go. I like to over care for mine and kill them with love. LOL switching to self-watering pots is a lifesaver for my beauties. Now I have new leaves and roots galore.
Hi! I'm new to this channel and to growing orchards. I recently got two plants..so far so good!! But, I do have a question about when to re pot my new plants. I was told not to re pot until they stop blooming. Is that correct? And I also noticed the roots that are on the outside of the pot, the tips are turning brown. Am I over watering or not watering enough? Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't - if the orchids aren't all really healthy then you can pass viruses and pests between them. You could however put the plants inside their decorative pots all in the bath and fill them individually. That's what I do. Or you could water them in groups together so that if something is passed between orchids, you only loose a small portion of your orchids and not the whole collection. That's what I do sometimes... I make sure to always group them in the same way though because a problem with an orchid can take several months to become apparent. So basically, water in small groups, not all together.
I just bought a plant and it looks like there are 2 orchids in the pot. One of them looks dehydrated, but the other looks okay. How do I rehydrate one of them without overwatering the other one? They are also both just starting to bloom so I am not sure if I can split them into separate pots or repot them together?
i tried to rehydrate my plant the way it's shown in the video but after 3 days when i went to check on my orchid i noticed some mold on the roots of my orchid 😢
With a phalaenopsis the roots will be silvery and then green up when hydrated. Leaves will become limp and leathery if too dry. You can also tell by how heavy or light the overall pot feels.

I found $2 phals at my local store . There was about 15 of them at $2 each ! All they needed was water and a good soaking !!!!! 🎉
Danni, u are a gift 🎁 to orchid growers. Your videos excel in both presentation & substance. Gratitude here 🙌.
What I did with my very dehydrated phal. I soaked it at night(all night) and let it dry during the day. It worked very well for me.
I soak all of my orchids every other day. In FL, they dry out quickly. No dehydration problems here. Plump leaves and healthy! 😍🕊🦋🌸
Luckyyyyyy I live in British Colombia and we only get that like for two or three months a year! 😭🤣
I’m in Florida too.
Do you leave yours outside?
Do u have orchids in media? I'm in FL also, trying to decide. Thank you!
@@michelleroberts3856 yes, I have a garden Playlist section that has a short of my orchids blooming in 2024.
@@colesbackyardcoop Gorgeous, thank you!

Love all your orchids ❤ Thanks for sharing such helpful tips with us!
I struggle with this during the summer. I find it really hard getting the hydration back. The rest of the year they look amazing.
I weigh my orchids. This process compensates for the large winter-summer temperature variation here in Hollywood 🎥
Perfect timing! Just what I was wondering about yesterday! Thanks! ☺

Love quick tips😍
A lot of my orchids are very dehydrated in summer but they always perk back up
One of the important aspects is that, you have to know in what the orchid is potted in, too.

I can't see the link to orchids with no roots. I see links but I'm not willing to open each one to see if it's the one I want. Thanks.
On severely dehydrated orchids, how often to soak? Every couple days?
Thank you my are like that feel sad my baby's.

My orchid is not blooming this year, Having lot leafs and air roots. I was wondering, if it needed bigger pot. Roots are OK.
I have 50 orchids and I’ve noticed it’s harder and harder to keep up with the watering. Could I fill up a bathtub and soak them all that way?
also if they don't mind your tap water

Hi, My phalaenopsis has yellow spots on the leaves....can you kindly guide me
Repot her and cut out all the dead mushy roots !
I forgot about mine for a month 😢 my dendrobium is healthy and blooms a lot
Thank you 😊
How do I help it regrow roots? Leaves are leathery but there are barely any roots.
My orchid is dehydratated the roots on it are just small ones can it hydratete itself with those roots?
If my orchids dont have roots what should i do
I have an orchid that’s a small one and it takes only one ice cube per week but it seems dry what do I do
No ice cubes, warm water, let it sit in it for about 10 minutes and let it drain well.
I have cracked leaves, does that mean it’s way too dry? I’m so afraid of overwatering!
Can this be done for the chocolate orchid too ?
can this done with sphagnum moss in the pot?
i tried to rehydrate my plant the way it's shown in the video but after 3 days when i went to check on my orchid i noticed some mold on the roots of my orchid 😢
Does this apply to sphagnum only pots?
Hi, nope, anything! This orchid is in a bark mix 😊
So the tip is just to water your plant?
That’s how I weekly water normally.
💚💚
Probably a stupid question but; how do you know when your orchid is dry?
With a phalaenopsis the roots will be silvery and then green up when hydrated. Leaves will become limp and leathery if too dry. You can also tell by how heavy or light the overall pot feels.
@@teresabrockett7525 thank you for the succinct response, much obliged

Its a mini orchid
Your orchid producing a lot of happy sap for a dehydrated orchid
it looks like that flower stem has been sucking up all the water from the leaves
