- In this tutorial, I delve into the more advanced topics and concepts for selection areas in GIMP 2.10. I explain areas of partial transparency, growing or shrinking selection areas, using the quick mask, and using layer masks with selection areas. This is part 2 of 2 and follows the GIMP 2.10 Selection Area Basics tutorial that I released prior to this tutorial.

There are some of your tutorials that I'd like to give 10 likes at a time. This is one of them!!! It's simple but you go deep and explains every little bit of it. That is so helpful. Thank you!
Answered all the head-scratching questions I had, plus what I've been doing wrong all these years. Thank you!
I like the quick mask with the feathered edges, that's always been a bit of a guessing game for me, I like the D key for B&W too thanks,
just had a play with that feathering after selection & the rounded corners after clicking sharpen can be corrected back to square with the Rounded Rectangle tool set to 0 in the Select menu, but I'm sure you know that 😉😁 Thanks
Thank you!
Very helpful, Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Michael,
thank you so much, very well presented and the insight into the selection panel. Have a very Happy New Year!

Why this selection mode doesn’t active maybe thats why its not selection, path tools selection also doesn’t work, whats the problem of that, others have red selection mode but my don’t have please anyone help me.
Hi Michael, great explanation about sellection area tool! keep the good work! ;-)
Thanks! Will do.
Hello Thanks, Davies, I was wondering if you had a tutorial on how to use Blur = Gaussian blur
I do not but I'll look into this!
very good
Thanks!
I'm dealing with several 50% opacity layers that I have to line up. How do I select a layer that isn't on the top, if I can't select it by clicking on it?
(I've tried Page up/ Page Down and it only lets me select the top or bottom layer)
Double click the "move" icon, change radio button from active layer
So yesterday I was trying to paint freckles on a girl's face and looking up tutorials I only found ways to remove them but nothing on how to add them. In the end I checked some photoshop tutorials and did my best to transfer that to gimp. And while the end result was ok, I still fill there is a huge hole to fill tutorials wise. Maybe if you're not to busy you could give it a go??
I will definitely look into this and see if I can put a tutorial together on this subject. Thanks for the suggestion!
What is the solution for no marching ants after making a selection? I use a MacBook Pro
You may need to change the “mode” in the tool options (very top option).

Make a video about how to install some tools in gimp please it's my request
I am not sure what you mean - install some tools? Unless you are a developer working with the GIMP team, you cannot install new tools in GIMP. You can install plugins and scripts, however. Is that what you meant?

you speek very quickly which is terrible for non native speaker👎
wow what a awkward program...
For a new person trying to learn this program your presentation moves way too fast. You assume that everyone knows what you're doing and why. Your topics bounce from one idea to another. It's totally frustrating. I have learned nothing from either of these two presentations. Call me dumb if you wish but I have Masters Degree in Education and you have broken every rule there is in teaching. I can only hope for better things later on.
