This is exactly the same as the 2016 Scion IA I purchased brand new except I have a manual transmission. 255,000 miles later it still runs good. Burns some oil but that's expects and the transmission still shifts like new, considering it's a manual!!!!!
i bought this car in September. so far I like it. it has nimble and quick handling. suspension is stiff though. you'll feel every pot hole, dip, and bump. since this car is very light weight and small it gets toss around in the wind while driving on the highway. you'll feel it vibrate the steering wheel left and right. it will be slight but it will be noticeable. it won't affect steering but it will be surprising at first. this car that has a lot of features and value that you won't find in other cars in the same class and price. but in truth this is not a toyota. it's a good and a bad thing. it has mazda handling and some zoom zoom at higher rev range (at 1st gear there is noticeable lag for some reason) but it doesn't have Toyota reliability. this is mazda 2 after all and its built in mexico. only time will tell if this car is as reliable as a real toyota. mazda is not really known for their reliability compared to toyota. at least it comes with 2 years free service and 3 year warranty
Armando Quezada oh really? scioniaforum is all dudes. if chick means driving a new cheap car thats great on gas so you can make money driving for lyft and postmates then I guess I'm a chick. does your man car make you money? or does it waste money for you? lol you that insecure you need to prove you're a man by driving a "manly" car lmao
Von Ace nah man I drive a Ford Fusion Sport , but unlike you, I really don't care about the gas mileage. I could have gone with a mustang GT but I wanted a four door with balls, I only say it's a chick car because I've only seen girls driving that car. Hell, even my girlfriend bought one lmao and it ain't even all that great on gas. It's okay. Must suck to be driving lyft though. If I buy a car it's because I want to enjoy it privately. Not have some punk ass kid in the back seat while I be their bitch driving them around for a quick buck. Lmao i don't know man. I guess I'm just blessed with a really good job.
Von Ace I'm just a car person and to me. The car stereotypes are kinda true. You can tell a lot about a person by the type of car they drive. And to me. Your car is a chick car lmao yeah you can say my car is a chick car too. But when you have 325 horse and 380 torque with AWD I DARE YOU TO TRY TO TAKE ME ON. Because my car has whooped on a lot of "man" cars lmfao
Loving my 2017 Yaris i got one with a 6 Speed Manual and it's awesome! great gas mileage too! Deffinitely good choice getting rid of my SUV that averaged 20 Mpg
At 0:25 that plastic covering to the right. Can somebody tell me what it is and if I can replace it? I found it dragging after I got off the freeway. Thank you.
I love this model...First car was a Toyota Yaris sedan 2008, which went to Boston, I fell in love with this car, miraculously she was in Russia and I fell in love with her at first sight. it is a Pity that they do not deliver to Russia, I think the demand would be huge... Thanks for the review - sat, dream....
This is by far, the absolute best review of the Yaris IA, period. I was looking at 4 cars. IA, Fit LX, Mirage G4, Accent. Accent eft quickly. I did more research and found out their engines just don't hang in there like Toyota, Mazda, or Honda. The mirage G4, just not sure over time on the 3 cylinder with cable clutch. Nice car though. It came down to Fit LX and IA. IA comes with more for less money, and Mazda's reliability has been rated higher than Honda in consumer reports...still like the fit though, but you get way more with the IA. So I'm going to drive one this spring. I want to see if the rebates go higher as well. And I'd only drive a manual. Thanks for the awesome review.
I hope you mentioned that toyota collaborated with mazda with this car and it is america's version of the mazda 2. Even the engine is mazda's 1.5L skyactive.
I like your reviews, your cinematography really captures the spirit of the vehicle a lot better than most reviews out there. You focus on details that matter for potential owners, and that's important when faced with the prospect of being with a vehicle for several years. Most automotive journalists and car reviews out there have an animosity for the 'sub-compact' segment, thanks for giving the class more than a fair shake in your reviews. One point I must disagree with you on is the rear viability, I found it awful when I had the chance to ride in one, the trunk is way too high. To be fair however, I think most cars since the late 1990's tend to have atrocious rear visibility, so this is no worse than most cars, but still pretty bad.
Great video, Mike! The Yards iA doesn't look to bad. It just seems so weird looking at a Toyota badge on this vehcile instead of Scion badge. Toyota should really consider bringing the hatchback version of the Mazda 2 to the U.S. and get rid of the current generation Yaris Hatch. The Toyota Yaris iA will be a very solid and reliable option in its class. Keep up the great work! -DriveAndBeDriven
The Yaris iA is a Mazda2 with the Toyota badge. As such, it's missing a few features that Toyota offers on the slightly bigger Corolla sedan: LED headlights, dymanic radar cruise control (in front badge) & Toyota's safety sense package, Etunes infotainment system with optional XM Radio and Scout GPS, grooves on front door handle to unlock doors (part of Smart Key system)
I'm just glad that we have (a variant of) the Mazda 2 here... Mazdas are very fun to drive, and essentially the only things not Mazda on this car are the Toyota Yaris emblems, and the Toyota engine.
believe it or not but i find this video interesting this is the only car to change the emblem symbol toyota turned into mitsubishi *look the front of the car* kinda looks like it almost similar to mitsubishi evo

Only audio features I think it should have is Sirius/XM. I is cool it has HD, few cars offer that. Pandora is neat. The lack of a stereo to push buttons on the dash is a little weird, but I think the knob will become Handy as you get use to it.
thanks for the in depth cockpit review!!! might buy one soon for commute and driving for über. its more liveable than my modded WRX. and low cost to operate.
It's a good idea to get a mazda with a toyota emblem? SKYACTIV engine is good? How about the transmission? Any good? Or should I get the lower ticket price toyota Yaris hatchback?
This Year is The Big Change For Toyota, Scion is Now Toyota, New Cars, More Safety Features on Corolla and more, and I think next year is going to be the same too
Thanks for this, I have this car for more than a year now and it's been great. The 2019 version of this car has been refreshed with 3 trim levels. Can you by any chance post a video of the XLE trim? I've not yet seen a single video of the new model, so it would be great if you could be the first to post it.
crismusbonus I have a 2017 ia..... I’ve had it since October of last year...... wondering how reliable is it..... and if you get squeaking from rear right brakes...... when using them in the mornings? It’s only for a few ingagements..... then it stops...... my 2000 Toyota Camry would do the same tging
will Mazda or Toyota be making this car in 2018? Toyota makes the Yaris Hatchback which is totally different from the Yaris iA sedan. The hatchback doesn't get good reviews at all. The Yaris iA gets great reviews.
Great review! To be honest, I love the design of the car but that Toyota emblem looks a bit weird on this car considering everything about this car is basically a Mazda, even the key fob.
Toyota bought some percentage of Mazda a while back and they made some agreement to rebadge Mazda 2 sedan as Scion (and now Toyota). The company has a long history with strategy of differentiating market by using different brands (like in Japan they have quite a few different dealers serving different customer needs e.g Toyota Vizta, Netz, Toyopet, etc cos they have lots of models sold. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota#Japan And they also nailed this collaboration cars project in several markets already. They think its one of the best strategy so that they can sell more with more options available but co-engineered with those who they think will make the car better for the purpose / outsourcing to save/split some R&D costs and efficiency) Like in SE Asia, they have a few MPV models co-engineered with Daihatsu to produce 2 models with a lot of trim models. Also in Japan, they have a few basically similar cars but with different name and slightly different exterior look like Alphard and Vellfire to reach the premium and sporty look (2 different trim model for different market approach) and these minivan is quite a sell in SE Asia. Toyota has a different look for different region and they seem to know what works/suits for each region's taste (like in US the corolla is more sporty looking; the yaris is smaller, while in SE Asia corolla has a more premium look; yaris is wider and longer, bigger sized). Corolla alone has a very complicated trims (Altis, Verso, Levin (now China), Trueno( replaced with iM(Ascent in Aus, Auris in Europe)), Axio, Fielder). Camry has Solara, Aurion, and Avalon (it sorts of Camry but much more premium looking).
Well..... I have a 2017 Yaris ia..... read good reviews and bad...... yet I’ve seen every make and model on the side of the highway..... so gonna drive what I can afford...... unless someone is willing to upgrade me.....
This is pretty much a rebadged 2016 scion ia. If you get this, don't let any fat people in the back seats. The backseat has really cheap stitching which can be easily ripped by big boned people. I have two holes on each back seat :(
Seems like a little sister of the Mazda 3. I'm a Mazda fan and seeing this car makes me laugh a bit. It seem have a Mazda Skyactiv chassis (which is sporty and lightweight) plus an reliable Toyota engine. Maybe the next trim should be a 2.0L Skyactiv L4 engine, which still get the same fuel economy for more power. For your sake; I'm a fan of Toyota and Mazda. Not a Honda dude though, SORRY YO V-TEC.
This is about how well an average consumer would review a car.. That's a good thing I guess. The engine compartment explanation was pretty ridiculous though!
Scion is owned by toyota but scion was mainly targeted for younger people but recently scion is no more so now they are just rebadging the scion cars to toyota.
I like this because there might be some new car buyers out there. He described the car very deeply and that is very helpful.
Thanks for watching and your feedback :)
Crazy, so a Mazda/Scion partnership car, originally sold as a Scion, and now is the new Yaris. The interior is pretty much mazda
This is exactly the same as the 2016 Scion IA I purchased brand new except I have a manual transmission. 255,000 miles later it still runs good. Burns some oil but that's expects and the transmission still shifts like new, considering it's a manual!!!!!
I had a feeling you were going too do a video on this car, since Toyota has been a theme lately. Thank you for your work Mike. :)
The taillights look pretty nice.
HaitianHallow yeah the rear end of the car is nice... nice butt..BUTTER face!!
i bought this car in September. so far I like it. it has nimble and quick handling. suspension is stiff though. you'll feel every pot hole, dip, and bump. since this car is very light weight and small it gets toss around in the wind while driving on the highway. you'll feel it vibrate the steering wheel left and right. it will be slight but it will be noticeable. it won't affect steering but it will be surprising at first. this car that has a lot of features and value that you won't find in other cars in the same class and price. but in truth this is not a toyota. it's a good and a bad thing. it has mazda handling and some zoom zoom at higher rev range (at 1st gear there is noticeable lag for some reason) but it doesn't have Toyota reliability. this is mazda 2 after all and its built in mexico. only time will tell if this car is as reliable as a real toyota. mazda is not really known for their reliability compared to toyota. at least it comes with 2 years free service and 3 year warranty
Von Ace this car is a chick car lmao
Armando Quezada oh really? scioniaforum is all dudes. if chick means driving a new cheap car thats great on gas so you can make money driving for lyft and postmates then I guess I'm a chick. does your man car make you money? or does it waste money for you? lol you that insecure you need to prove you're a man by driving a "manly" car lmao
Von Ace nah man I drive a Ford Fusion Sport , but unlike you, I really don't care about the gas mileage. Von Ace you should have just bought a mazda bro
Loving my 2017 Yaris i got one with a 6 Speed Manual and it's awesome! great gas mileage too! Deffinitely good choice getting rid of my SUV that averaged 20 Mpg
Logan Hite i got the Scion iA , it looks same!
Hows it holding up
literally the mazda for cheaper.. love it !! I've been looking for a simple car.. but the only thing is how super light weight it is..
At 0:25 that plastic covering to the right. Can somebody tell me what it is and if I can replace it? I found it dragging after I got off the freeway.
Thank you.

This was was an excellent car information demo
Thank you very much , very helpful and understanding explanation about the car , I just bought a used one last night IA 2017 . I appreciate your input
I hope you mentioned that toyota collaborated with mazda with this car and it is america's version of the mazda 2. Even the engine is mazda's 1.5L skyactive.
Toyota Yaris iA is a mazda 2 .
Believe me this car is very fun to drive .. I bought used 2017 automatic model in 13k with 14k miles on it
Trying to decide either to get this or the corolla im. Thoughts? Thanks!

You forgot the trip odometer reset button which can be useful to set the dimmer for the day/night/auto screen adjustment.....
Janus Kaminsky I didn’t find that out untill I read my book
I'm just glad that we have (a variant of) the Mazda 2 here... Mazdas are very fun to drive, and essentially the only things not Mazda on this car are the Toyota Yaris emblems, and the Toyota engine.
It is a Mazda engine, but without the silly SKYActive badge.
Nice review!!! It's so nice!! I want one!!!
What's with Sparks Toyota and pinstripes and tint?
You never mentioned whose engine is in this Yaris. I see a Toyota emblem on the engine cover, but is it a Toyota engine or Mazda underneath?
I wouldn’t mind having one

What does the sport button do?
Mike could you also identify in your videos if it has soft to the touch materials on the top trim of the door sometimes you don't do it
How tall are you Mike? I'm pretty tall so I would like to have a perspective on leg room. Thanks

Nice & Simple~ All I feel that I
would really need 🎃
This Year is The Big Change For Toyota, Scion is Now Toyota, New Cars, More Safety Features on Corolla and more, and I think next year is going to be the same too
Scion was always toyota lol
On the left front bumper or fender, there is a small about 2 inches square that pops out what is it for?
Behind that cover is a place to screw in a tow hook.
can the amazon prime music app be used with the infotaiment system?
Thanks for this, I have this car for more than a year now and it's been great.

Do you know what is the automatic transmission oil of the Toyota Yaris iA 2017?
Great review! Can you get SiriusXM radio in this car?
Great review! To be honest, I love the design of the car but that Toyota emblem looks a bit weird on this car considering everything about this car is basically a Mazda, even the key fob.
beautiful
Mazda yaris
Mvp Ec exactly wtf. And people are excited
Do you think that Toyota will eventually phase this out and no longer make these?
I really see no point in making cars cheaper than a campact car lol. The corolla is already a cheap car, why make an even cheaper one.
The Corolla is hardly "cheap". It can cost over $20,000 depending on the trim level.
Corey Batchelor only if you spec it out.
I heard for 2019 they're not bringing in the Toyota Yaris sedan in Hawaii.
beautiful!
Good review.
Why don't u out the prices in description, i think you should give people an idea of how much it will run them, as youre helping to promote them
needs sirius xm
is this car good for uber?
Anybody forget the Tercel?
Wait, Why is that information system just look like one in Mazdas? Toyota and Mazda is sister company or somethin?
This is basically a rebranded Mazda 2 from what I understand.
MikesCarInfo Mazda is it's own company they partnered up after the Mazda and ford contract ended
does anyone have any comments about the cons of this car? other than it's weak horsepower
Small back seat.
Front looks like sad fish
GoodDay haha, yes it does.
It attracted you!
y has scion 2016 same car yary
There are no spare parts for it in Yemen
in asia the lower model than corolla is vios.....its also powered by 1.5 engine but it a real toyota i think
This car is running rough. look at the engine shake?
The movement of the engine is exaggerated by the refresh rate of the camera.
I don't like the way that engines rattle. Its that a Mazda engine or a toyota engine?

So they've decided to ditch the CVT and go back to the 4 speed auto. Must be due to reliability issues.
It didn't have a CVT
MikesCarInfo that's what he said, they ditched the CVT
Previous model didn't have a CVT either so they didn't "ditch" anything.
For the money, I would pay more for this Toyota/mazda 2..... Then the nissan versa
That is one rough running engine.
this is a scion iA rebranded has a Toyota iA yaris
Moises Orozco Which really is a Mazda 2
SO HARCORE mazda helped scion make the car and then scion got taken into Toyota that's why. The interior screams mazda
RIP Scion
The gear tends to scratch very easily in this car
Well..... I have a 2017 Yaris ia..... read good reviews and bad...... yet I’ve seen every make and model on the side of the highway..... so gonna drive what I can afford...... unless someone is willing to upgrade me.....
18 grand? Wow
This is pretty much a rebadged 2016 scion ia. If you get this, don't let any fat people in the back seats. The backseat has really cheap stitching which can be easily ripped by big boned people. I have two holes on each back seat :(
Von Ace obese*
Are you kidding? Seats ripped already?
I was considering trading Fiesta for one of these, but 106 HP?? Yeah no way lol
Why trade a car that is Fine for another one, anyway? The Fiesta has only been around like 5 years? So your car is super young.
It's fast with the manual transmission!
That engines moving alot
I own this car and all I’m trying to do is figure out how to fold my back seats down
The release handles are in the trunk at the top. 6:34

definitely toyota is more reliable than mazda, but is this usiing the mazda engine or toyota.
140mph on the speedo......lol 106hp..... ? I would give it 105-110 maybe......
This is about how well an average consumer would review a car.. That's a good thing I guess. The engine compartment explanation was pretty ridiculous though!
+Kevin Allen Ridiculous in what way?
Mazda 2*
Did Mazda and Toyota partnered up, because this is a COMPLETE COPY of Mazda 2?
Front Looks Like a Ford Focus
So it is just a Mazda 2 with a super ugly face
Yes.
Yes its like a uglier version of mazda 2 and 3.
im confused its a Toyota or a scion because in México its a Toyota and in the USA its a scion why is a Toyota its soposed to be a ascion
Scion is owned by toyota but scion was mainly targeted for younger people but recently scion is no more so now they are just rebadging the scion cars to toyota.
and it is in Europe and Middle East Mazda 2
I know Mazda and Toyota are partners and all but dam did Toyota take every thing from Mazda 2
Thanks for watching and your feedback :)
I really don't like that the engine looks like it shaking around. Doesn't seem like Toyota.
this is a Mazda 2 on the inside?? wtf?
Rebranded Mazda
OMG THIS CAR IS A COMPLETE COPY TO THE MAZDA 2 SEDAN WTF THE INTERIOR AND THE REAR LIGHTS ARE THE EXACT SAME!!!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebadging
Thanks for watching and your feedback :)
Aaron Carpenter that's because Toyota and Mazda worked together on making this car
Thank you for telling me that, now i know why they look the same
LOL the key is still a Mazda one. How lazy the Toyota decision makers can be?
Similar to mazda3
Tung.T it is mazda 2. Toyota collaborated with mazda with this. Toyota just changed the front design. The engine is mazda's 1.5L skyactive
@@7elephantastic yup.
255,000 miles later, my IA manual transmission still runs great. Love 💕 Mazda
Sexy car!
The Mazda is way nicer than this. Especially when Toyota pretty much just replicated it.
Thanks for watching and your feedback :)
Toyota mazda2
it's kind of weird how the engine was wobbling. definitely not made by Toyota
The vibration of the engine and the refresh rate of the camera makes it look like that.
I A car
Toyota Yaris iA is made in Mexico 🇲🇽
