    JJ, in the grocery stores when you ask about something and they immediately say, “sorry sir, out of stock” it’s usually because they have no idea what that item is, so to save face, they just say that. Best to take a picture of the item and show them that pic from your smart phone. Half the time it eliminates that “little white lie” they resort to.

      @rafromero4436 3 місяці тому +1

      @@Foden5354 that’s an accurate observation and that’s the difference between the western and Filipino culture. By nature Filipinos are shy and won’t speak unless you spoken to. This is always a problem in the service industry such as the restaurant business and retail sales. Most locally owned businesses do not provide customer service training for their staff. Only in western or foreign owned franchises can you get good customer service. To get customer service, approach the staff and ask and they will respond and assist you.

    #1 for me is the lack of availability of quality merchandise, most everything is junk and their high end stuff is junk too. I may be over doing it a little but not by much! You can get by and find most of what you need eventually but it's a struggle and you will toss a bunch of stuff as you search for satisfaction. Study before you decide to move and have somebody at home that can ship you a balikbayan box once in a while with stuff you need and crave.

    While everything he said is true, much is worse in the giant cities. For instance, while I would NOT live in Chicago, Springfield was great. Same here, Manila and Cebu is no good to me, nearly all of the medium sized cities are great (no traffic, less noise, few beggars, few scammers, public transportation is great., cheaper, etc.) I live in Tacloban (pop. about 250K) it costs 35% less than Manila, and I love it.

      It's not necessarily things you can develop immunity to (eg amoebiasis, a form of dysentery that's widespread in the Philippines - 80-90% of people are naturally immune but if you're not, you never will be, and if you don't get prompt treatment in hospital it can kill you).
