I will go into the "how to write tab" lessons in some time but still have a sh*tload of stuff to do before that. don't know if you use twitter but i'm starting to use it for requests like yours so i have everything in one place. What TAB features do you want to learn or are you most interested in?
check the video description and at the bottom is my profile link, click it and once landed on my profile on ultimate-guitar(dot)com, go to the contributions tab. You should find it there.
Great to read the lesson works for you, if you want the full version you should check the link in the description to Mike Rosenberg's performance, It's with singing but you get a very good view of the guitar!
Off course, you can find it on ultimate-guitar (dot) com just check the video description, all the way on the bottom you'll find a link to my UG profile
yes it is, thank you! the confusing thing for me was arpeggio is used for certain fingerings for playing chord tones and playing a chord as an arpeggio (broken chord)...
yeah you are right, normally i would do it that way but i really liked this version of the song. At the end of 6 videos i did say to myself "why did i do this...?" Definitely gonna check out that Heart on Fire, and thanks for the advice!
yes, depending on the anatomy of your hands and also the neck of your guitar, using your thumb to press the bass strings can be a challenge, for some even impossible
yeah that is a tough one, do play nylon or steelstring? Either way you could instead play 3rd position on the D string instead(with your ringfinger), it is an octave higher but students of mine who have trouble with that thumb play it like that also and it sounds nice... hope this helps
the song is called acoustic summer, a piece i wrote especially for the intro of my tutorials (acoustic ones anyway). Many people have been asking me about that song and as soon as i have some time i'll turn it into a proper song. right now i'm just too busy working on the new website :-)
thanks for helping out! rake and triplet are two different things but i think you know that. Arpeggio has been said and rake could be the word i'm looking for, checking with google now :-)
it is a song i wrote for especially for the intros of my videos, called acoustic summer. I've been trying to record a full version of it for the past 2 months but having a baby changes a lot :-)
This is the best tutorial on youtube I could find on this song. The video layout works well and instructions are well paced. Only advise is instead of having all these parts, just show the intro and then for the verse and chorus show us the general finger picking patterns and variations; I doubt Mike plays it exactly the same. If you could do Passenger's Heart on Fire that would be awesome. Thanks!
I'm not sure if I understand your question, there is no "harmonic" used in this song. Or do you mean chords/harmony? I think you can play the melody without the chords, yes..
the intro is the same but the rest is different from the studio version where he plays with a band. (or i'm messing up 2 videos on youtube) That studio version has the strumming parts and on this version he fingerpicks the whole thing.
thanks, and i don't think i have a guitar for sale but with the crisis maybe all it does is take time before i'll have to put everything up for sale :-)
Oh my God ! This is my favourite song I can't believe that I can learn this how to play it on the guitar! It's amazing, I've just found it, I am so glad, Thank you so much! ;-)
Thank your for your compliment! I've got more on Passenger's music on my channel: Holes, and Feather on the Clyde. I'm going to add a few other ones pretty soon.
Thanks Tony! In case you're interested, I've also done Holes and Feather on the Clyde by Passenger(just check my website or channel). I know ***** also did a version of Let her go and has done another song of Passenger too. (can't remember which one sorry)... Enjoy the tutorial!
yes there are some alternatives. But that F chord is hard to play. What you could do is just don't play the 6th string and instead of that play the 4th which is also an F but one octave higher. You don't get a deep bass sound that way but for most of my students that can't play that chord (yet) this works just fine.
I understand what you are saying, it is tough to find a format that will suit everyone. The entire tutorial is 6 videos, repeating steps means either more or longer videos. You can always pause and go back a bit to see again. But, I will think about what you said and see if I can add it... Don't know what you mean with "List me man" :-)
As you asked, @ 7:03 the 3 note G chord "quickly played.." is a "forward roll" arpeggio. A "reverse roll" is as you would guess starts with the ring finger. This comes from a banjo technique.
it is tough to play with the thumb when you are not used to it. what do you mean with "cant get the strings to sound normal" what are you hearing? perhaps we can figure this out...
great tutorial thanks you, wondering if you could do a tutorial for passenger staring at the sky, i think you would be the only tutor on youtube to get it accurate.
i put the tab on ultimate-guitar check the description for my UG profile. The TAB got a low rating probably because people were expecting the studio version. i'm pretty sure the tab is 99.9% correct...
Is there another way to request? I have a bunch of songs, some pretty unpopular and difficult stuff, but I don't have twitter. As always, thx for the lesson and congrats on the baby! Keep it up!
I'm rubbish at finger picking.. This is a really good video, if at the beginning you could tell us what cord to play whilst picking that would be extra helpful for a bit of a dips like me xD
it is called acoustic summer, a song i wrote specifically for the intros of my acoustic tutorials. I think this month i'll be recording the full version of it. (but i've been saying that for a half year now :-) more and more people ask me about that intro so i would be stupid not to do it :-)
hello thank you very much for all this lesson it was hard but i nearly get it :).can you play the full version of this accoustic whitout singing it will help me a lot. thank you very much from france :)
Really good to follow... Nice work! Quick question, would you be able to put a link to the tabs you used? As I always look at the top of the vids now and flicking from part one to six. Many thanks :)
someone mentioned it is a "rake" but the author is apparently "removed" don't know why... anyway, rake is a possibility although i always thought that technique was linked to playing with a flatpick.
Great tutoral my friend. I play classical guitar and you totally got me when you said you had to use your thumb to play the 6th string hahahaha, impossible in classical guitar. Also I would not recommend using the same finger to pluck the same string twice, it really inhibits freedom and fluidity. Anyhow, great stuff. it sounds amazing.
there's absolutely no way to play the 6th string with the thumb on my guitar... especially with a capo on the 7th fret....I have a yamaha classical guitar and the neck has a hump at around the height of the 12th fret which gives my hand no space for the for this kind of hold... Is there any alternative way to play this?
Hi, thanks for this GREAT Turotial - may be it's to early for me or I've missed it - but is there a link to download the tabs somewhere? Would be great to be able to print them. Many Thanks, Carsten
hey by the way i imagine you probably to busy but have you check the song that i request sorry if i'm so annoying but nobody want's to help me with the song duerme conmigo thank you. and keep doing this amazing job
no need to say sorry :-) I've listened to it and it is quite easy. The verse has the chord sequence: Em (1x) C (1x) G (2x), then Em (1x) C(1x) D(2x) The Chorus (or bridge?), slow part in the middle: riff (open a string, then 2nd position Astring), then chords: C (1x) and D(1x) then riff again and repeat C and D chord, etc... I'm doing this without a guitar just by ear so hopefully I didn't make a mistake. this is the song I used: Jarabe De Palo - Duerme Conmigo
Question : what do you recommend for an amateur player? Getting familiar with the song without the capo first, then putting it, on or having it on from the start? (I'm asking because with the capo on the 7th fret i feel like my fingers are huge!)
It depends. I think I would always practice in original position first, it's easier for playing along with the song (and the tutorial). Then If I would wanna sing along myself and would prefer to have the capo in a lower position (because I have a lower voice), then I would probably start practising doing the guitar parts and my vocals once I knew how to play the song. I understand that your fingers feel huge, it takes a lot of getting used to but at the same time, it's these things that make us better guitarists :-)
check my profile (link is in description) then go to contributions, and click the passenger let her go tab. you'll notice it as it has 3 stars instead of 5 as most others do. (it has got 3 stars because i guess people fail to see that it is a transcription of a live performance)
I have to say that attempting to learn the intro to this song from your video has been a humbling experience. I have been playing guitar for two years and i mostly play lead electric guitar with a llitle bit of rhythm guitar and a bit of acoustic style music. I have never really ventured into fingerpicking. The only piece of fingerpicking i have ever learnt is the verse of Metallica's Fade to Black which by far alot simpler than this intro for both the right hand and left. I was fine with the opening pickup bar, but my downfall was immediate. Right when you moved on to the Fmaj7 Fsus2 G5 sequence i found myself to be uncoordinated and dysfunctional. I want to say thank you because you have taught me something valuable, that i am not as competent of a guitar player as i thought and i must work. While trying to play the intro, I felt like a beginner, but that only leaves me more determined to work hard and get it right! Thank you for helpingthe public with your guitar videos and have a great night! :)
BTW the english term for fingerpicking the strings very quickly one after another is a "roll". Do note this name only applies when you are ascending or descending the strings and not when you are jumping around quickly.
Calev T. I saw someone else commented that the technical term is arpeggio. It is possible that there are two terms for this but i believe he is incorrect.
This reply is about your first post, about your humbling experience... The guitar is a very versatile instrument. I play many different styles and each has its difficulties. Take spanish romance, a simple song for classical guitar and quickly you'll think "i've mastered it"....until you try to record it. The song is so fragile that any little mistake or ill timed note is a huge disturbance. Some find it hard to play a solo, others have trouble with fingerpicking, etc. What you've discovered is that you're quite good at playing electric guitar in a certain genre and it is good that you've realized that there is much more out there. Check different styles like flamenco(paco de lucia), jazz(pat metheny), blues (michael landau), classical (julian bream, segovia), or players like tommy emmanuel, andy timmons(electric), robben ford(electric), andy mckee, vicky genfan, al di meola, etc etc. There's worlds to discover on the guitar and that's what i love about it!
Thanks Charlie! Should you want the studio version, ***** has a tutorial & tab for that. And... I haven't forgotten about your video tutorial, it's been a crazy month but it is on top of my to do list! André

he was not just a regular thumb but a remarkable one, he hung in there till the very end... we'll all miss him!
yes it is, thank you! the confusing thing for me was arpeggio is used for certain fingerings for playing chord tones and playing a chord as an arpeggio (broken chord)...

hey guys this is what i've learned from watching this video, this guys a great teacher....The Passenger - Let her go Acoustic cover!
yes, depending on the anatomy of your hands and also the neck of your guitar, using your thumb to press the bass strings can be a challenge, for some even impossible
I'm doing this song for my music assignment! and this tutorial helped me so much! Thankyou!
Another very detailed and readily understood lesson André, thank you very much!
Really GREAT lesson. The tabs and split video are perfect. I can't hardly believe this is for FREE. Thank you.
Ray Awesome you like the lesson! And it is definitely for free :-)
yeah that is a tough one, do play nylon or steelstring? Either way you could instead play 3rd position on the D string instead(with your ringfinger), it is an octave higher but students of mine who have trouble with that thumb play it like that also and it sounds nice... hope this helps

awesome! hope you ace that assignment!
it is a song i wrote for especially for the intros of my videos, called acoustic summer. I've been trying to record a full version of it for the past 2 months but having a baby changes a lot :-)
The best Guitar Lesson on youtube
you're welcome, I'll check your suggestions, if I like them I'll put them on my tutorial to do list :-)
This is the best tutorial on youtube I could find on this song. The video layout works well and instructions are well paced. sweet! It's a lot of information to process to props to you!

thanks for the video! i'm going to learn this and put it up as my next cover. much appreciated!
it is on ultimate guitar dot com, just check the video description and follow the link to my UG profile, it should be there
thanks! also for the input on the technique!
Oh my God ! This is my favourite song I can't believe that I can learn this how to play it on the guitar! It's amazing, I've just found it, I am so glad, Thank you so much! ;-)
awesome finally got it all down, just working on speeding it up now. Great tutorial!!!
Man, you're a great teacher, love this video tutorial!
Thank your for your compliment! I've got more on Passenger's music on my channel: Holes, and Feather on the Clyde. I'm going to add a few other ones pretty soon.
thanks so much for this tutorial!
by the way ''quickly after another'' the phrase you are looking for is '' in a quick succession'' :)
im a newbie at playing guitar and i already got it thanks to this tutorial! :)
Paul AJ Leal awesome!
Playing the notes as a flow is called appeggio. Thanks for the generous sharing. Will be learning this one. Love the song lyrics.
Thanks Tony! In case you're interested, I've also done Holes and Feather on the Clyde by Passenger(just check my website or channel). I know ***** also did a version of Let her go and has done another song of Passenger too. (can't remember which one sorry)...
Enjoy the tutorial!
Your Guitar Workshop Thanks so much and keep on inspiring with your playing.
Will do Tony Cuckson !! (Some nice acoustic tutorials coming next week(s)
You are correct! I've missed it during this video... Nice word by the way "incongruence", Didn't know that one :-)
Great job! Just started the first little bit:) will learn more tomorrow:) thankyou so much!
You should definitely do one! It has a really nice groove to it ^^
I am really grateful for this tutorial; thank you!
yes there are some alternatives. But that F chord is hard to play. What you could do is just don't play the 6th string and instead of that play the 4th which is also an F but one octave higher. Thank you for making a tutorial and a tab on the live version where he fingerpicks the whole time!
you're welcome, enjoy!
you're welcome! but out of curiosity: how am i changing you're playing, in what way? (can send me PM if you want)
ok thanks i wont rush you for tabs and congrats for the baby
Actually i think you have a very creative solution, as long as you adjust all bassnotes on E-string it will work just fine! :-)
I understand what you are saying, it is tough to find a format that will suit everyone. The entire tutorial is 6 videos, repeating steps means either more or longer videos. You can always pause and go back a bit to see again. But, I will think about what you said and see if I can add it...

William Tallman Thanks! I've seen those terms somewhere else too, never heard about them before.
you are still doing an amazing job ! keep it up!
it is tough to play with the thumb when you are not used to it.
what do you mean with "cant get the strings to sound normal" what are you hearing? perhaps we can figure this out...
great tutorial thanks you, wondering if you could do a tutorial for passenger staring at the sky, i think you would be the only tutor on youtube to get it accurate.
love this song ! very good tutorial=) i hope you will make a video on how to read chords on time too=) !
thank you camilla! good suggestion about the chords, noted!
i put the tab on ultimate-guitar check the description for my UG profile. The TAB got a low rating probably because people were expecting the studio version. i'm pretty sure the tab is 99.9% correct...

this song so difficult.................
give it time and do it step by step, you'll get there!
it is called acoustic summer, a song i wrote specifically for the intros of my acoustic tutorials. I think this month i'll be recording the full version of it. (but i've been saying that for a half year now :-)
more and more people ask me about that intro so i would be stupid not to do it :-)

thanks for spotting my mistake!
:-) eternally is a long time, i'll check the song out!
Thank you!!
Hi Andre! great lesson, I wonder could you share the transcription to this?
hello thank you very much for all this lesson it was hard but i nearly get it :).can you play the full version of this accoustic whitout singing it will help me a lot. thank you very much from france :)
Really good to follow... Nice work! Quick question, would you be able to put a link to the tabs you used? As I always look at the top of the vids now and flicking from part one to six. Many thanks :)
they're on ultimate guitar dot com, open the file with tuxguitar and print them out, easy peasy :-)
i feel so very overwhelmed with your response..Thankyou so much :-)))))))
I'm glad we understand one another :)
Keep doing what u are doing! (Making awesome videoes)
Excellent tutorial!
One question, what is the riff played in the beggining of this video?
someone mentioned it is a "rake" but the author is apparently "removed" don't know why... anyway, rake is a possibility although i always thought that technique was linked to playing with a flatpick.
감사합니다! 한국사람인데요 항상 동영상 보면서 배우고 있습니다... 한국어 못알아보실테지만... 전 그저 감사의 말을 올리고 싶었습니다!
정상일 당신은 환영합니다 ! (you're welcome! not sure google translates correctly ;-)
Best tutorial ever!!

3rd position on D string with my rinfinger... ok
Ill try it out, thank you :)
you're welcome but i think most credits go to your persistence! keep playing and you'll get there!! :-)
you're welcome!

That was awesome bro
Thanks! Glad you like it :-)
Hi,
thanks for this GREAT Turotial - may be it's to early for me or I've missed it - but is there a link to download the tabs somewhere? Would be great to be able to print them.
Many Thanks,
Carsten
Dude i become your fan it's an awesome job every time you make a tutorial
By the way you were sick cause you sound a little
haha, yeah I was having the flu at the time. My voice is never that low normally :-)
hey by the way i imagine you probably to busy but have you check the song that i request
sorry if i'm so annoying but nobody want's to help me with the song
duerme conmigo thank you.
and keep doing this amazing job
no need to say sorry :-)
I've listened to it and it is quite easy. The verse has the chord sequence: Em (1x) C (1x) G (2x), then Em (1x) C(1x) D(2x)
The Chorus (or bridge?), slow part in the middle: riff (open a string, then 2nd position Astring), then chords: C (1x) and D(1x) then riff again and repeat C and D chord, etc...
I'm doing this without a guitar just by ear so hopefully I didn't make a mistake.
this is the song I used: Jarabe De Palo - Duerme Conmigo
I'm 10 and your very helpful. Thanks my guitar teacheri s going to be impressed!
i got it ^^ thanks for teaching me very happy haha
you're welcome! The guitar is a yamaha APX26D

Si!! At The fourth bar and at G5 it's a quick arpeggio!
Thanks alot man , that helped alot ! definitely subscribing :)
awesome! I've done a few more Passenger tutorials, be sure to check them out!
Your Guitar Workshop I will .. checked out some of your tutorials too :). Thanks again !
Been learning this on electric guitar becuase my acoustic is warped but I'm getting a new one soon
too bad that acoustic got "warped" but getting a new guitar is always fun, already know what you're getting?
Fender-DG60 acoustic p.s your lessons have really helped me a lot

graag gedaan!
Does it matter what type of acoustic guitar I use? What type are you using?
@YourGuitarWorkshop The technique you wanted to know about is called "arpeggiating".
Great job as always ;)
Thanks Charlie! Should you want the studio version, ***** has a tutorial & tab for that.
And... I haven't forgotten about your video tutorial, it's been a crazy month but it is on top of my to do list!
André
Your Guitar Workshop don't worry man take your time ;-) winter time is allways like that xD
thanks for understanding +charlie rosetti
Happy newyear!
A very Happy New Year and best wishes for you too :-)
