OMG, I was just thinking the same thing! This vid was fantastic! I got emotional when you guys were unmolding the mold. It was so creative. Honestly? ...the sky's the limit! Everything, tree branches, log cabin look logs! Your head must be swimming with ideas.
My husband has done concrete for 40 years. We are adding and addition to the cabin this year and have been struggling with what kind of siding to tie into our log cabin that will look organic and not just an addition. THIS IS IT!! We have decided to use your tutorial and try our hand at it. We're going to start with wrapping the 4 feet of block wall first. By the time we're ready to put the walls on, we should be pros! Thank you for unselfishly sharing your knowledge and creativity so the rest of us can benefit from it. You and your team are a blessing!
Looks amazing! Growing up, my father molded and cast everything! Every wall in the house was either stone or brick with wooden beams across the ceilings..lol.. great memory thanks!
Sherry Mortensen here you did it again I love all of these projects and they will help us remodel our not just the shower but the flours the chimney and fireplace stand to put our woodstove on thanks again. They look so easy that maybe Lee and I can do it with our boy's and some of our friends can help us do what we Can't. Thanks again Stonecoat Countertops. Love You guy's
I think that process was one of the most satisfying things I've ever watched LOL I love making silicone molds and I love River rocks. This is quite the task for me to take on but as I'm trying to make a River Rock border for my massage therapy room using 3 to 4 in rocks. I like the idea of making my own!
You guys are just genius. Someone did something like this on the fireplace at the home where we now live. We installed a wood burner for the fireplace and it is just wonderful during the winter. We were able to get full use of it this past winter.
I can't believe the ingenuity you guys have, you surpass anyone else with the variety of,,,( artwork) your company has. Your instructional videos are addictive as well. Thanks again
Your doing exactly what I said I wanted to,do the first time I saw Y all and tried for firat time..."IM GOING TO END UP,WITH A WHOLE EPOXY HOUSE!!" Because I never want to stop useing it!!!
Stone Coat Countertops great answer! It’s spray paint, it’s not going anywhere, and if it takes 100 years and it looks like cement colored, that’ll be cool too.
So my questions: 1. What PAINT did you use to paint the concrete? 2. How will this weather over time? My concern, is being outside, the paint will begin to fade, and now its just concrete rocks... 3. Sealant? Did you use any? 4. Heat resistancy? You used it behind the woodstove... 5. COST? Is it really worth it? Vs stone veneer. 6. Is a vibratory leveller REALLY needed, or was this just an afterthought? Looks GREAT! Thank you!
I have studied many of your 'solid' instructional videos, and I like them all. This sequence of actions and product seems widely adaptable to many natural materials. Thanks for another great 'demo' of consumer-grade material science ! When the covidmovid is over, Ill fly in for some schoolin ! Until then, I will keep watching. I hope you get rich.
Really love how much enthusiasm you have for sharing your tips and tricks for making such beautiful things! Can't wait to work on my next SCC project...
its is so awesome that yall made this rock wall. im wanting to do the samething in my masterbath and create a one of a kind shower. i work with epoxy with my art work so im very comfortable working with epoxy. now all i have to do is gather up some awsome looking river rocks!!!

GREAT video/tutorial! Glad to see you branching out into more ideas on how to use epoxy. I never would have thought of using quick coat as a mold release! And the 'faux travertine' window trim was excellent. Again, I never would have thought of mixing sand with epoxy! Thumbs up!
@@StoneCoatCountertops Maybe stairs with bullnose detail(?) Will the sand act as a 'non-slip' step surface? Or, make a mold and use sand/epoxy to make a lamp base. How about use the fake stone mold to make 'hidden house key' stones to hide near the front door. Embed an old electrical outlet box in the underside for the 'hidden box' part. :-) That's all I can think of atm.
@@ccgsales Sand + epoxy will NOT be non-slip. Maybe if the sand is dusted on when the resin is set enough the sand won't sink in, but is still tacky enough to hold... maybe. But it would still chance detaching. I tried some small mixes in molds of sand + epoxy, and they came out slick, like the mold, with a couple of very small gaps, as if a bit of sand just wasn't there. Since I was using them to make kitchen magnets, you'll understand this wasn't an issue for me, but still meant I could give you an answer. I did try mixing sand + epoxy and spreading it thin. That might work (MAYBE) with large enough grit, and thin enough epoxy coat, but it will break down fairly quickly, so I don't really recommend using it for a non-slip surface. I've heard of using super glue and sand... but that was for use on shoes themselves. I hope you find an answer that will work for you. Cheers!
The one mistake you made IMO was using spray paint here when you could have used concrete dye. There's a number of good videos on YT on making faux concrete rocks. I have doubts that paint will last too long.
Fortunately spray paint has a good reputation with wanting to stick to concrete for a very long time. Have you seen how long graffiti lasts on concrete walls? We think it'll hold up well, but thank you for the good input!
@@StoneCoatCountertops I used to make many chimney and wall rock with wire screen, fiberglass mortar and creek rock and way more hours of work then your method. Awesome. We used cheap outdoor wood deck stain in the mortar, and it blended in with the porches, decks etc. Great video.
@@TechTomVideo I haven't. Anywhere I've lived, graffiti on walls is painted over, which is likely easier by far than trying to scrub it off. How does it hold up?
OMG! Incredible! I wouldn't have thought of doing this for the fake rock, or the sand and epoxy for the moulding. I'm definitely doing this when I redo my kitchen and bathrooms!
You guys did a beautiful job on the cobblestones out of that mold and I like your video very much it was a great episode to watch learning how to do cobblestones
Stone Coat Countertops the only thing I can think of is maybe what kind of prep you had to go through on the exterior and interior prior to installation for those who want to duplicate this. 😊
i've had silicon molds break/rip on me in the past that were large. I was wondering if you could add some fiberglass strands or whole cloth pieces to support such a large mold? Like rebar in concrete...
I think you guys are spying on me. First I thought, "I need to know how to do the epoxy on shower walls." I had started a rock wall and never finished and thought this would be easier. And then I see a video on doing showers. Then I was thinking that I'd really like to make some rock for our fireplace and this video popped up. I had started wanting to do this years ago, but got sick and life got thrown upside down for about a decade, but now I'm trying to pick up where I left off. I have so many things I want to do and finish and these videos are encouraging me.
Haha it's definitely just a coincidence don't worry!! But we're happy to hear that they're coming in a timely manner for you. Good luck on your projects!
I compliment your ingenuity and creativity with the stone. If you are able to improve the finished appearance of the stone and strike a balance between cost and labor, you just might create a legitimate competition in the commercial cultured stone genre.
Ironically I want to make molds of rocks. More uniform rocks though to paint. I'm going to have to check out the other video! I've watched about 10 mold making videos in the past few days. No idea how I missed y'alls.
I have a question. I want to make a mold of a plastic seashell bowl I have. I want to make a seashell vessel sink. The only way I know to do it is a sand mold, but that will not give me a smooth top and underside. Would the epoxy and Sand mixture be a better sink??? HELP??????? I live in Florida, so a seashell is a must. I watched the river rock mold making...very interesting. I was trying to figure out how you were going to make rocks out epoxy...then I realized you were making faux rocks out of concrete. Very cool. I really like the window trim. Good job. PLEASE help me with this sink...
Is the top edge of your bowl even? If so, you should be able to easily fill it with wet sand, set up a mold box with wet sand, and with care, flip your filled bowl upside down on the sand in the mold box, settling in snug, so the mold maker won't leak into the inside of the bowl. My only concern would be if the wet sand would keep the mold maker from setting. The water should keep the mold maker from seeping too much into the sand. Set a couple of mold matching "marks" into the sand, pulling out whatever you've used to make those marks before pouring in your mold maker. Follow instructions for making a two-part mold to shape the inside surface. Once you've completed and cast your mold, you can drill out drain hole(s) as needed, and recast if needed. I haven't tried this.I suggest trying a smaller version first, to see how it works out first, then seeing if you're good to go for your larger project. Best wishes on it turning out fabulous!
