Im 53 and starting at WGU for cybersecurity in Aug. Great analogy!
Am thinking of starting next months , am 39 years old. Are you paying out of pocket or financial aid
Do any of you guys have any IT knowledge?
As someone considering going from a lifetime of making art and obtaining an art degree into Cybersecurity or something IT adjacent, this was an excellent comparison and may have unintentionally gave me the exact advise I'd need to take those daunting initial steps.. just in reverse!
lol awesome!!!
Hold on to your ability to 'think in reverse', let's say not all Cybersec techs have the artistic touch that the attackers often have against them.
oh my god, thank you so much for name-dropping Reddit. Those users are absolutely brutal and seem to delight in condescendingly overwhelming anyone they can, because that's what the site's format tends to reward. I'm betting that a lot of posters don't follow their own advice and aren't even in the industry, too, but are just roleplaying online to feel cool (or vent their bitterness about feeling inadequate themselves)
Yeah, 100% . I think it is more for frustrated males to self affirm their sad world view

Having second thoughts about getting into this field this year so this was very encouraging thanks!
Thank you for an awesome video. I am turning 52 this year and am looking at a career change. Hopefully, I am not too old for this. I do have some experience building a program from scratch with CISA infrastructure.
Great to hear :)
A couple of years behind your and in the same place, buddy.

You are so Encouraging ❤ Thank you Nicole
I think I needed this! I really want to work in IAM but I have no degree, experience, or certs. Im utterly confused on what to even do. Im definitely feeling discouraged on this journey but I am not getting off the road yet.
hi! I started watching your videos a year ago and I have made great progress already! Thank you so much for all your content
Great job!
I have worked as a mechanic for 11 years. I’m earning my A.S in cybersecurity, I have Security+ and I plan on starting OSCP in August. My goal is to become an entry level pen tester. I have been applying left and right but have not had any luck.
Make sure your resume is good and reflects how you are qualified
I'm in my 20s, but the problem with so many of my peers and myself, is that we see these job descriptions wanting a Master's degree and certs just to break into Cybersecurity. Until very recently, I wanted a PhD just to get my foot in the door of Cybersecurity despite already having some IT experience.
A phD is good if you want to become a teacher at a university, but that is about it.
Thanks Nicole! Happy 4th of July and thanks for everything again!
You are so welcome!
Im moving from network & network security to cloud engineer & cloud security !!! Is this a good decision ?? Please advice me sis
My only thing is if i go to wgu and get my degree will i even be able to get a cybersecurity job. I heard it’s really tough and i don’t want to fully waste my time.
I'm just curious, but why are you leaving cybersecurity? Can you paint on the side?
I'm not, it was just an analogy lol
LMAO
@@nicoleenesse Sorry I missed that part. lol
Can you take the Security + without having the A+?
Yes you can
Yes
relatable, on track to burnout and never touch a computer again.
Please tell scope of cloud security ?? Are they good paid ?? What is the demand and salary for average ?
Hi Nicole , I'm software developer and I want to change my career in cyber security so how can I change.. I don't have any knowledge about cyber security. What should I do?
Would love to see some of your paintings!
Noted!
Hi Nicole Im about to start WGU in September and I was wondering what Tech degree is best for someone who doesn't really like programming and prefers a tech job that will have limited programming in it. I already have an Associates Degree in Information Technology if that helps in any way.
Great content, Nicole
Hi Nicole, I may need to have a zoom chat with you. I am a Healthcare provider and have worked in healthcare in one way or another since 1998. So, my IT skills are very novice and I still don’t know how to get started. I would like to work as a information security analyst.
send me a message!
@@nicoleenesse Hi Nicole! I am definitely interested to talking to you about steps someone like me can take to transition away from the only career I’ve to one I am very interested in.
@@nicoleenesse Through what medium? Want to talk to you too.
I'm so confused! One of your videos I was convinced I couldn't do this career. Now I watch this video and I'm thinking maybe I could. Ugh. Where does a person start? You said not to bother with going to school or certs.
Why did you think you couldn't do it?
@@nicoleenesse Mainly because I was never a computer "nerd". When I hear all the lingo it sounds like a foreign language to me. I use computers everyday but when I tried programming I found it extremely difficult!
short replied - Well said
Hello Nicole does your mentorship apply to WGU students ?
Yes
HI NIcole. i have applied in upskill to cyber academy...could you please reply back? Thanks!
💯
❤😊
Awesome!!
Sister..i actually studied over 3 years ccnp security & palo alto & forti & checkpoint & ccnp service provider level...but im finally realized there is no scope like cloud
Now i move into cloud...im completely focus on azure architect expert
Azure security engineer and azure network engineer is my aim..
Can you please tell cloud security scope ???? Is it really cyber security ? How is the paying of azure cloud security ??
Im moving to cloud & cloud security from network security...is it a good deal sis ? Reply me...
I mean there is cloud network security lol
@@nicoleenesse I did not understand your comment... Could you please tell clearly ?? Cloud has also network & security... But its more far different than on premise soc & on premise network..
That's why I'm asking cloud security & cloud network engineer is the good choice ?
This is me
Worrying about being too old or no degree
Or too sexy
😂😂😂😂
Jkn
Comptia A+ and others as a prereq feels like a lot to me... to just get a HelpDesk role. feels like too much.. these jobs often require that.. im discouraged.. i want to keep trying but.. helpdesk doesnt even pay enough to live off of...its overwhelming
I feel very similar
You don't Need CompTIA A+. Get a cloud certificate like AWS cloud practitioner or CCSK
Besides what Nicole said, look into (ISC)²'s free course and exam for the Certified in Cybersecurity cert. It's entry level, but you'll get all the fundamentals to begin your journey into cybersecurity. If you can't find it, Google "1 Million Certified in Cybersecurity" program.
Also, if you're a student, look for opportunities such as SANS' "Jumpstart Into Cyber" program. I was enrolled for two classes in community college and was able to get into the program, now I'm taking a free course for their entry level cert called the GFACT.
Because of school, I was also able to apply for Microsoft's Last Mile scholarship and for a voucher to take any CompTIA certification exam that I choose.
One more thing. Keep in mind that the tech industry keeps advancing and changing rather quickly, so unless you plan to stay at help desk your entire career, you'll have to keep up with the changes and likely take more certs as you advance your career. Being in tech is a lifelong learning process.
Nicole, your encouragement helps a lot. Thank You!
Happy to help!
I definitely needed this. I was listening alot to reddit.
Yeah, Reddit is like the swampland lol
The "golden era" of skipping help/service desk a cert or two and straight into well paying IT Security job is over. People see or know of 1 person getting that lucky but I guarantee you there are 100s of others that didn't get that lucky. Over 200k layoffs at Big Tech firms this year so, the applicant pool for IT positions probably exploded.
lol, you don't need to do help desk first. There are also still more tech jobs now then there were before the pandemic.....
Great content, Hooah!
thank you Nicole
Thanks for this video. Its very helpful. I changed my carrer from web developer in to GRC an year back and now I hv decided to aquire SOC knowledge to choose if I really want to stay in GRC or want to move to SOC. Would appreciate your guidance/opinion on it.
What do you like?
@@nicoleenesse GRC is more of a process oriented where there are no technical areas to work upon. However I like what I do but I doesn't enjoy that much and feel something is missing. That's when I thought to go through SOC and then decide what I really want to work upon.
Thank you for this, I'm 45 and just starting my cyber security journey.
Great to Hear!
Nicole, can we get an update on cybersecurity vs computer Science because idk what to pick 😭🤷🏾♂️
On my list :)
@@nicoleenesse like dive deep into the two lol pros and cons for both idk
