    i went from 4" axle dump with 8" tip to 5" axle dump with 10" tip on my lmm, and holy shit it is so much louder. you cant beat the sound of an axle dumped diesel, it sounds incredible

    • @dakotadickens3747
      @dakotadickens3747 4 роки тому

      Peter Jones you can most definitely beat the sound of a axle dump diesel. A factory exit 5 or hood stack sounds much better. Axle dumps have to much echo under the bed and in the cab.

    I like the 4” myself, a bit raspier and higher pitch turbo whistle, which I why I’ll eventually be trying some 4” duals on my LBZ sometime here soon on my channel.... but first I’m looking at Bedliner paint job so that corrosion issues don’t happen!

    Both sound awesome. Kinda like the deeper sound of the 5 inch. I have a 4 on my truck and I love the sound when I get into the higher rpms. Want to do a 5 inch though. And I like the smooth look of the led tail lights better than the stock. The smoked loon is way better then the red but I prefer the led. IMO

    5 inch!!!

  • @adamchevy4283
    @adamchevy4283 4 роки тому

    I think they both sound great In different ways. Raspy 4 inch. Deep 5 inch. The 4 inch is definitely louder. But smaller exhaust is louder always even on gas pickups if the motor is the same and the exhaust identical besides diameter smaller is always louder. The 5 inch has a nice deep sound if your looking for that

  • @waddell7354
    @waddell7354 4 роки тому

    If you want deeper sound, and already have a 4 inch, get a 6 inch tip. Cut the exhaust to where only 3 or 4 inches goes into the tip and weld it on

  • @KeystoneOutdoorsman
    @KeystoneOutdoorsman 6 років тому

    4 inch has more of a pur whereas 5 inch is a bassy growl. Video only does such much justice though.
    Very interesting video. This is a common topic amongst cummins owners. "Go big or go home", and "Bigger is better" are oftened chanted around this discussion. I believe 3rd gens sound best with 4" especially matted to a 6 speed. Unless they have the 2nd gen manifold with a large single turbo, like my 04.5 6 speed, then 5 inch is better. Sounds beautiful and one of the loudest trucks in SE PA.

  • @yazzy1516

    5” with an 8” tip 🤙🏼. 5” straight pipe give a good rumble and the 8” tip also gives off the nice whistle

    4inch. Should let trucks run for a bit after reving the piss out of them. Let coolant circulate cool things down

  • @codytrojacek9174
    @codytrojacek9174 5 років тому

    I like 4inch personally. All depends on what you like but I’ve read several studies and done several tunes with guys that do this all the time and we’ve pretty much discovered that 5inch is overkill on anything less than 800hp. If anything it knocks your numbers down a bit until you hit that hp mark.

  • @berlinetta350
    @berlinetta350 6 років тому

    Don't switch, the main difference in the noise is the tune. I have the 5" on my truck and before I tuned it the turbo whistle was louder but then I got the PPEI rumble tune.

  • @Downstriker559
    @Downstriker559 4 роки тому +1

    Unless you're running 500+ hp 4" is more then enough, you lose some bottom end torque with a 5" in the sub 500s but gain a little top end. It's all on what you use the truck for but imo, 4" is sufficient enough

  • @martinsolberg2046

    Honestly I think 4 inch is perfect. It gives that real clean sound on the LB7 but not super loud. The 5 inch sounds about the same but it’s really amplified. It’s a little too loud for my like but no matter what anyone says it all comes down to personal preference. Unless your like 800 horse then 5 would be better lol

    I have the same tail lights on my 04’ Z71. Looks sick on my truck being black and white themed. Only problem is they do crack easily and for some reason the bulbs didn’t sit in them very snug once I locked them in. Other than that I love them. I believe I like the 5” exhaust better. It’s a tough decision though. Lol. Both sound sick

    I think 5" sounds better. Im running 5" straight pipe, axle dumped on mine. As far as the stack, I dig the single short stack look, just don't go above 40" tall I think lol

    It’s silly how people including shops make a big deal about EGR deletes which is not really a big deal. The fine is $5000 but I’ve never heard of anyone getting fined but I’m sure it’s happened. My point is a cop doesn’t know diesels usually and wouldn’t even know where the EGR is if the hood was popped. As far as an inspection you just find a shop that doesn’t care about it

    I like the factory lights better. Don't like the black. Probably draws the cops more.
    Also darker and draws less attention which is what tail lights are for. I would hate to be plowed into from the back by a millineal texting cause they can't see the tail lights as well.
    Exhaust sounds good.

    4" does sound great... I personally like the sound of the 5" better and if all you're going for is sound - stick with the 4" and just delete the cat as you said.. But if if you're looking for performance, you'll want the 5" it as it lets the engine breath better and is a horsepower /torque increase up from the 4" exhaust

    To those that may not know, Diesel engines operate off of Compression. Although 5 inch Exhaust sounds deeper you will lose lower end torque than with the 4 inch Exhaust. I've had 4 and 5 inch setups and there isn't enough difference between EGT temps to spend more money.

I’m looking to get better fuel economy. I don’t care about power as it has plenty of power from the factory. I don’t want to spend a ton of money on upgrades ideally would like to get around 20mpg. Mostly I town driving is what I do. Light towing. Dump trailer and Building materials on occasion. Any advise would be appreciated.
