In addition to your great explanation, if someone still wonders: the Sc FX with an EQ2 comes in very handy if your sidechain is a drumloop-sample with e.g. kick and snare. You filter out everything but the kick and have a clean sidechaining signal that way.
Great video as always! you are one of the masters! Sidechaining EQ+ is one of my favorite things bitwig can do! I’ve been mixing for 20 year’s! It is one of the most powerful tools I’ve ever used! You’re able to get mixes to sit and pop SO easily!
Polarity is officially the crown prince of BITWIG studio... I was about to cash out on some sidechain VST plugins due to sloth levels maximizing then he teaches me multiple, and better, FREE ways to do it in-house...
Very smart routing on bitwig, very nice video and ideas, we can also apply all of that on ableton tough! It’s all about the ideas! Great videos, i am loving them even tough i’m an ableton user
I would use a hp filter on the SC FX sdiechaining to the kick, so the compression is activated by the transient of the kick and you can set attack and decay more precisely ;) Great video
Note sidechaining is really cool. It's kind of Midi sidechaining. Using Cubase for ages I can't even tell if there's anything like this(?) Think I give Bitwig a try.
You can also recreate your own version of the Trackspacer plugin. I actually like the versions I've created with Bitwig devices and modulators better than Trackspacer.
Transient Control is also useful for reducing body of other percussive elements when the kick hits without affecting their signature. Side-chained body attenuation is actually what makes Bitwig's stock transient shaper quite unique and useful when comparing to 3rd party plugins.
I like the sidechaining on EQ+ with a highpass filter. Dynamics I'm not a big fan of, with subbasses I often get a click at the beginning, no matter the attack setting and even when using a timeshift in the fx slot as a lookahead feature.
@@Artek604 This maybe explains the clicks me sometimes have using ASD on a Filter. Was wondering this is a bug in Bitwig but didnt looked deeper into it
Good to know so many ways of doing this. Bitwig is such a powerful daw, with so many options. #dawforlife ❤🎉🎉 Appreciate your channel so much. Lots to learn. Keep on Polarity Music! Love it! 💫💫🙏🏽
This is a great tutorial, thanks a lot! The only thing that's slightly triggering me here (no pun intended) is that you use the "POST" output of the kickdrum as sidechain input all the time. I suppose PRE/POST refer to the mixer fader? If that's the case, I would almost always using the PRE output as sidechain input because I definitely don't want all my sidechain effects to unexpectedly change their behavior when moving the kickdrum mixer fader.
Thanks for this excellent set of examples. One thing I realised why watching this us how the 3rd and 4th methods would be perfect for sidechaining VSTs, such as Cherry Audio Voltage with relatively low CPU impact.

Autowidth can be configured very quickly with tool device and audio sidechain by choosing to modulate width by volume. Just select the main instrument not the kick for the sidechain.
@@PolarityMusic : so many ( most ) teachers will jump from concept to concept.... I really like that you stayed on one topic but showed multiple ways to do it...... for me that really helps understanding.
Mhh, could get Nerdy when you consider all the possibilities.... sidechain different frequencies to each other. Mhh, this could bring a lot of live into the mix.
Bitwig does not have any “analog emulation” plugins, therefore anything like that will have to be 3rd party (Analog Obsession is a ridiculously good free source of these). With regards to Fabfilter, those plugins tend to be much more in depth than their Bitwig counterparts and might have better sound quality/algorithms as mixing with stock Bitwig stuff isn’t its strong suit, though of course it’s much more important you know how to use your tools well before considering buying new ones, and of course nowadays free plugins will get you 99% of the way there anyways. The workflow of most of the Bitwig plugins are as fast or faster (due to being native) than using fabfilter as most of them are pretty well thought out.
I should have used a different term. It's all the same for me. FL Studio is an old daw and very developed. I can see that there are plugins on the market that were in FL Studio 15 years ago. A good example is the Surfer EQ or the UVI Shade. All of this can be done in Patcher in seconds.

That EQ+ tip is absolute gold. Thanks
This way eradicates the need for Ghost kicks to sidechain from. Brilliant
Why are there still so less people on youtube talking about Bitwig? There should be many more.
It's hard to switch from a DAW.
It's still our secret weapon! 😉
@@Artek604 I never heard about Luna but it is not running on Linux. Bitwig is the only serious one that also runs on Linux and I love it.

Thank you very much. You explained about the side chain in a very simple way. I'm sure this will be a great help to me.
Bitwig completely changed my approach to Sidechaining tracks. Thanks, Polarity for pointing out some of Bitwig's superpowers.
Excellent, I love the transient control sidechain, thank you very much!
Sidechain on EQ woooooow

You can do all that on Fl too with fruity peak controller and proper use of mixer sends and filters (or patcher).

Good clear video I'm new to bitwig from FL and was looking for ways to do this accurately within the host and not 3rd party . Thanks
amazing, thank you! I think im about to try switching after 14 years of ableton :o
Super informative as always. Many thanks!

Not 100% sure, but most of these techniques should work. But I’m not familiar with limitations

For multiple source of sidechain they should just allow you to use a group track's pre\post output. Wonder why such a simple idea wasn't implemented.

Are Bitwig factory plugins good sound as 3rd party like FabFilter & UAD ?
UAD maybe not, (what is?) Fabfilter I’d say they sound less clinical.

NICE! We do a Bitwig Sidechain tutorial marathon on each YT channel ;)
I think putting the beginner DAWs name in the title gets more views, do them a favor and do it man
I wish the Note Sidechain modulator would tell you the actual ADSR times when you change them, because those percentages are basically meaningless
