BERYL!!! Omg I am currently teaching in Guatemala and I have done this hike JUST for the pizza. It was genuinely one of the best pizzas of my life. And the guy is so kind with such a cool story! One of my best experiences here in Guate.
I now need to travel to Guatemala, just to try this pizza! =)
@@messengeroftruth17 So worth it!! ☺️
this is so cool!!
@@messengeroftruth17 same!
looks tottally worth it...bucket list item for me for sure
I'd really love to see Beryl do a video on "grandparent food". So many of these videos have people talking about their food memories with their families. It'd be great to highlight some of the dishes that people remember having with their grandparents that may be dying out with newer generations.
The stories that go with what our grandparents ate can be fascinating. My mother mentioned eating a lot of tinned meat growing up because that was all that was available. But she has fond memories of eating mashed Vienna sausages with mayonnaise with her mother. The sophistication of the food is less important than the memories associated with it.
That would be so special
I really love this idea!
Beryl, I am humbled beyond words that my pizza clips made it into the video. The kind words about my banana pizza in the comments (and even the friendly ribbing from a few places) have really made me smile during difficult times. It makes me feel like part of a bigger community for maybe the first time in a while.
Saying thank you for putting these videos together and building such a kind community is woefully inadequate, but I will say it anyway: THANK YOU. 🙂
I'm intrigued by bananas (with prosciutto) on pizza but I'm not sure about the tomato sauce as a base. Have you done it any other way?
@@kelqueen9998 I've not yet! The first time I had banana on pizza was in Peru at the town at the base of Machu Picchu, where there are tons of wood-fired ovens and thus pizzerias. I had a half-banana-apple and half-ham-onion pizza on tomato sauce, and it was eight kinds of epic. I've also had the banana pizza in Sweden with curry powder, but that also had a tomato base. And all of the ones I've made at home have had it as well.
I've liked the tomato and garlic base with this combination because it gives the acid to the sweetness of the cooked banana and the saltiness of the prosciutto. I'm trying to think of other bases that I might try with the banana and prosciutto, and the ones that come to mind are vodka sauce, peanut sauce, or maybe just straight olive oil and garlic if there is onion with the toppings. Would love to hear your suggestion!
We always ate banana on curry as kids🤣 maybe need to try it on pizza now ☺️
@@jamesterwilliger3176 that is so cool!! I may have to try it haha. Do u think ranch dressing would be good?? I’ve had chicken and bacon w ranch sauce instead of the tomato sauce and it was good…
@@jules3048 It's certainly worth trying. It may be too rich to have any kind of cream sauce combined with banana and mozzarella. I've also had chicken and bacon with ranch and liked it, though only for me if the chicken was spicy enough to cut through some of the creaminess. Something off the wall that might work with prosciutto and banana might be some kind of mustard base.
As a geologist, the idea of volcano pizza is both super intriguing and awesome but also slightly terrifying
A huge shout out to you Beryl. In today's time when countries are fighting you are bringing everyone together...... Hat's off to you for your efforts...... Wish all can be on the same page ❤️
"Any recipe asking for 1 clover of garlic is simply begging to have at least 4" - YES. Cant ever have enough garlic
I actually do the opposite :D I've had many American recipes call for 4 cloves of garlic and I just put one lol (or maximum two). My husband is Italian and garlic is used much more discretely here (plus his father is allergic, so they never had any garlic dishes growing up either). So I've learned to adapt, and it tastes good either way :)
I always get choked up while watching your community videos, especially towards the end when everyone is smiling and eating "together". What a wonderful concept - there is always something that binds and unites us all together, and that it is possible to share our cultures and be respectful towards one another. I just really love this channel and our small community 😭 Really crucial in the times we live in now. Thank you Beryl for reminding us that through your videos.
FYI I am one of those weirdos that LOVES pineapple on pizza; I love love love the combo of sweet tropical pineapple w/ the salty ham, or Canadian Bacon as we call it in the States (dunno why, we don't say Canadian Syrup though we probably should), I like to add bacon bits and either green peppers or jalapenos to my Hawaiian Pizza and it's Delish in my humble opinion
hawaiian pizza is so popular even here in nyc growing up i have ZERO clue when all of a sudden it became criminal to like pineapple on pizza lmaoooo
Vermont wouldn't like being excluded.
Love it too, with jalapeños and onions.
I really don't understand how people who like pineapples on pizzas are still considered "weird". There are tons of pizza topping combinations these days, it's hardly odd at this point.
I love Hawaiian pizza too. This hate for it just kind of pretentious IMO. My first job ever was at a pizzeria, and the staff favorite was salami and pineapple. Anyhow, good pizza is mostly about a good long fermented crust, not the toppings so much.
"only one person has asked for pineapple." THE SHADE
Dang, imagine baking a cake with a volcano for someone's birthday. That would be very wholesome!
Excuse me with that phone - WHAT?! Nostalgia hit me with that transparent casing and colorful parts you can see inside! Back then we had mouses. keyboards, and CPU's like that and they fell in the "gizmo" category. God I miss those times.
Me Too🥺
@Lorenzo Rosales I got a phone exactly like the one in this video as a kid back in 1980. It was the coolest thing and I was thrilled. Wish I still had it. 😞
@@lisahinton9682 I remember our keyboards and mouses looked like this. Really miss the color in gadgets nowadays.
I like how there's one Beryl narrating in the intro and another one acting with the lip syncing, that's pretty fun. This kind of makes me wonder if it's just the hotter the oven the better, under 3 minutes to fully cook is hot as heck.
Beryl, you always make the most fun and interesting food videos!! I NEVER get tired of watching the interesting art work (my brother was an artist), foods from around the world and interesting factoids about that food and countries you share with us. Thank you so much for all you and your friends around the world introduce us to.
GO BANANAS ON PIZZA!! I also like pineapple on pizza. Should I mention that Im Swedish? One of my fav pizza has BOTH bananas and pineapple as topping! Along with chicken and curry powder! Yum! Great episode!
Honestly banana, pineapple, chicken, and curry on a pizza would be the ultimate Swedish pizza, causing outrage all over the world 😂
Yeaaaaa......I totally agree on BOTH!!
I know that pizza from Sweden as well! But Im Dutch. Is it a Swedish thing? Mine were made by a really friendly Turkish guy in Idre. Definetely my most favorite ordered pizza all time.
@@jackieann7331 Thats cool! And maybe you are right that it is a Swedish thing. We need to spread it to the world ;) Let them know what they are missing out on!
@@jackieann7331 I wouldn't be surprised if other people do it too, but it's definitely A Thing in Sweden. Quite contentious here too, but in a culturally established way - we definitely disagree (my mom, brother, and I find it repulsive, my other brother and dad both like it), but you'll find it as an option at basically every pizzeria in the country. Very often combined with curry powder and chicken or ham, sometimes pineapple.
One of the more unique pizza making experiences I've had was in Sweden when we made pizza in an oven meant for making a traditional Swedish bread in the basement of my friend's house. It really wasn't that different from a wood pizza oven, but it was a cool thing to see how they were repurposing a traditional item in a new way. They said it was a somewhat common use now, as that bread was not as in demand now with preservatives and grocery stores (it was quite dry, and meant to be made from dwindling supplies in the winter).
Ah it’s me and my Jackie boy! I was so nervous filming these bits but you somehow made magic with what we sent you. Thanks for having me at the UA-cam pizza party! Also, I NEED a piece of that butter chicken pizza. 🤤
"what do you put on pizza" is really the topic that was missing next to toast, fries, ..! i was wondering how you feel about a borscht episode for Ukraine? there are several different versions...Ukrainian borscht, Polish borscht, cold borscht, white borscht and so on...
dum dum dummmmmmmm
@@BerylShereshewsky I don't understand but I guess it means you love borscht? 🙆🏻♀️
@@GlenCocoon lol the topic is the next toppings video but I also do love borscht
@@BerylShereshewsky 😍😍😍😍 hahahaha
...and speaking of pizza - WEIRD pizza... i had Bulgogi Pizza in Seoul, Curried Chicken Pizza in Zurich, and even Lobster & Asparagus Pizza in P-Town (that's Provincetown, for all my straight friends) - ALL delicious! if there is any food that is ubiquitously loved worldwide, it's PIZZA!
My favorite combo on a pizza is pineapple and jalapeno. Sweet and spicy. If I make it myself I use fresh pineapple and sear it in a skillet before adding to pizza to get it more charred than it will just cooking on the pizza. (Or is it because my oven doesn't heat to 800 degrees F?) Complimenting the pair with a meat of your choice or just onions really makes this one go for me.
Beryl could turn this into the continuation of great big story. I LOVED that UA-cam series and this is really good!!!
im so glad you make these kinds of vids, it reminds me so much of great big story. GBS was my childhood omg id binge watch them all day.
Dang. I just suddenly missed GBS :(
Beryl, love the format of this video, its really well construct and really entertaining
Thanks for adding us in the video! We had been wanting to share something of our own with you for a while. So its an honor to be in one of your videos!
Hi beryl, since summer is right around the corner(atleast here in India)Why not make “vegan summer meals from around the world”.
Would love to see this video and hope you like this idea!
Lots of love from India 🇮🇳
I absolutely loved this style of video! I would love to see a similar docu-series about people all over the world sharing their unique food preparations. David's story was truly joyous to watch!
Keep up the excellent work, Beryl!!
Seeing everyone enjoying pizza and so happy just made my day
Hi Beryl,
Mad props for continuing to make the kind of cool content you did at Great Big Story on your own and with your friends. It's really cool to see and I enjoy it a lot. :) And now I'm hungry for pizza.
Loving these type of videos. Thank you for sharing.
And now I'm craving pizza at 830am. 🍕☕🍕
Yup. Me, too, and no pizza in sight!
This channel is seriously underrated. Videos like this are a nice niche and you're killing it
@Beryl Shereshewsky I am not surprised at all you have that iconic phone!!! I just snapped into memories of jelly shoes, troll dolls, neon colors with black, and big hair. Thanks for that 😉
Guatemala's probably my favourite country to visit...I've been twice, and am itching for this pandemic to end so I can go back again. Pacaya's a crazy accessible and interesting volcano, and it has frequent eruptions, so I think David will be able to keep cooking pizza for awhile. Guatemala's other two frequently-erupting volcanoes (Fuego and Santiaguito) are a bit more...explosive in nature, so I would not expect their slopes to be used as ovens (by any sane person at least). I've climbed them all though (well...you can't climb the active dome on Santiaguito safely, but there's an inactive one about 100 meters adjacent to it, and it offers impressive views of volcanic awesomeness, so I'll take it). Anyway...more people should visit Guatemala. It has a LOT to offer (and not just volcanoes, that's just my own obsession...rainforests abound for the adventurous traveller, and there are plenty of beaches for the...less adventurous traveller...plus, there's a long Mayan and colonial history with a lot of impressive archaeological sites). I see the country as like an edgy Costa Rica...all of the natural, rugged beauty, 10% of the tourists.
I just love your content. The way you do your videos is so lovely with a sense of community, and I always feel like I learn something about a culture that’s different from mine. Thank you for your hard work on these videos.
That's so frickin' cool. Oh my god. Beryl your videos always make me smile, thank you. ^_^
This videos bring so much joy to me. Thank you for doing stories like this!
That pizza oven design is pure genius!
"...but what about banana?" I died
Hello from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦👋👍❤️ love pizza 🍕🍕
Yes! I am so glad you featured clam pie! New Haven pizza is fantastic.
What a cool idea! Parents going on date night letting their kids order pizza. I love that!!
Love your channel so much! These community style videos are unique.
Welcome to Guate, everyone!!! I love living here. Guatemala is a gorgeous country I hope that you can all come visit
These videos where everyone all over the world eat the same thing and talk about what it means to them just always make me so emotional and so happy. The universality of food!
So Pizza Hut in Canada used to do a Poutine Pizza with beef gravy instead of tomato sauce, French Fries and cheese curds....It was okay, I wasn't really a fan of fries as a topping. *BUT* Beef gravy and Cheese curds were phenomenal. So sometimes when I make pizza at home (which is probably too often) I do Beef Gravy (usually canned but sometimes I'll make a beef veloute) with a high moisture full fat Mozzarella, pepperoni, onions, sauerkraut, green olives and then add on a few cheese curds on top of that. It's a heavy pizza but also heavenly...
I kinda liked the Poutine Pizza...except for getting the roof of my mouth stabbed by extra crispy fries...
I love ALL your videos, but I especially LOVE these community shared topic videos. 👏🏽❤️
Gotta send this to my son. He has lived in Costa Rica 13 years and has taken me to visit some of their active volcanos. Now I’m wondering if anyone is making volcano pizza in Costa Rica?!!!
Your content is just the best---love it!
Your man’s accent is delicious! I don’t speak Spanish but I can discern different accents, and his accent fills me with glee.
@Jonathan Finan Do you have any musical training? A trained ear is a trained ear, and will discern different sounds clearly. I, too, hear the various accents of folks speaking the same language but from different areas. (I drove Uber for a while and had picked up four people from the same company who were staying in a hotel and headed to a meeting across town. All four were speaking English but with different Indian accents. They were shocked when I, an American, could hear that they were from four different regions in India. It was a very enjoyable ride - they were very pleasant.)
Good Morning from Las Vegas.......This will hit home for me...I worked all thru high school making pizzas in a local establishment in a small southern town...
The volcano guy is amazing!
Bravo 👏 my friend !!
Absolutely love your content! ❤️
Love your new 2022 videos… content/style🤩=super fun and inspiring
This felt like a Great Big Story!
So, glad to see you eat the Connecticut Clam Pizza! One my all time favorites! Thank you for sharing this and grateful for your creativity! =)
I will so try that one some day.
Once I get hold of canned clams, that is.
The banana pizza guy will be happy to know that Swedes absolutely approve of banana pizza.
You basically have a whole nation in your corner.
We just do tons of different toppings on our pizza, and banana is among the most popular.
A very common one is a ham and banana pizza with curry powder sprinkled on top before it goes in the oven. The curry powder gets a gentle fry in the oils of the cheese, and goes super well with the banana.
The thin slices of banana, together with the hot temperatures in a pizza oven, makes it cooked in a pretty unique banana on pizza way.
Another common Banan pizza combo is Banana, chicken, peanuts, curry, and maybe some bell peppers.
If you ever in Sweden, give Swedish pizza a try. It’s certainly an experience.
Kebab pizza, with kebab meat, garlic sauce, hot sauce, and maybe even some fries on top, is also a very common, beloved and unique pizza here.
Most of the high end pizza places serve Neopolitan style pizza, and you know pizza like you find it in Italy.
But your cheap neighbourhood pizzeria in Sweden, will absolutely offer banana pizzas together with many other unique pizza toppings
Pizza is my comfort food and I love all kind of pizza.
Making my pepperoni, sausage, beef, mushroom, pepper [orange] & onion mini stuffed crust pizza while watching this video.
This is giving me throwback Great Big Story vibes 🤗
The pizza volcano part was such a nice throwback to your great big story days 🥺:')
As you tagged the contributors at the end, I was expecting you to do the dog sleeping in Emmy's bed. Which I thought was so cute.
I think I'll try the clam recipe next time I make pizza for dinner. Although I'll spread a bit of white sauce (alfredo) on the dough instead of just olive oil.
@Jaclyne Laurin My favorite part of the entire video was the pug-closeup and the snoozing doggy on the bed. And why not try the clam pizza sans that cloyingly overpowering Alfredo sauce the first time? Putting that on anything results in an Alfredo dish, whereas in this dish, the clams are the highlight. Just my thoughts on it, and do as you will, but just thought I'd put it out there to try it as the dish is firstly, and see how you like it. 🙂
Beautifully AMAZING 🤩 😋🥰🙃!!!!! People are quite creative & resourceful.
This has to be one of my favorite episodes you made! So many elements and I loved seeing everyone's unique toppings... I love pizza! ❤️ 🍕
Your clam pizza looked so good! I'm quite intrigued by the banana one too
wow this video style is so reminiscent of great big story :') am so thankful that you continue to document these interesting stories!
The kid helping make pizza, so cute!
Too. Much. Fun. Beryl, look at the amazing community you’ve built!
Great Big Story vibes in this video!♥️ How I missed the stories that channel would tell.
YESSSSS THIS IS WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR!!!!!!! PIZZA IS
Saw this right after having pizza for supper. Cheers!
I recognise the Aussie lady was using Woolies brand tomato sauce. Respect the Big Two supermarkets.
Meanwhile, my pizza, I like to occasionally buy ready to bake pizza dough, Leggos brand pizza tomato paste (tomato paste with and herbs and allium for flavour), Danish salami, kalamata olives (stronger flavour than other black olives), canned pineapple, and mozzarella slices from a cheese pear (not grated, round shaped mozza). It often ends up a bit messy because I over-do the toppings.
Great Big Story time! How I miss that channel. Thanks Beryl for bringing GBS vibe ❤️
So cool. The pizza looks amazing
The little babies eating pizza are so cute
I just love your content so much
That pineapple mention made me so happy, I'm still grinning! Love the video, I'm going to have to have pizza for dinner...
I love it whenever you have to make a call and show us your awesome phone collection. What a fun and kitschy collection of phones you have! I really appreciate all the aesthetic thought you put into your videos especially the set design of each plate while you are assembling the dish.
This is so awesome, I love this!! How a great story! Now I want to go try the pizza. lol
The storytelling on this is extraordinary!!
Great video! Loved learning about the gentleman who makes volcano pizza! What a treat...go for a hike and eat some yummy pizza for lunch! Haha now I'm hungry.
THAT INTRO THO 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love pizza so much I could eat it every day. My favorite food.
This clam pizza sounds delicious!!!!
Love!! This video
Ricotta, spinach and anchovies are my favourite toppings
I just had pizza last night and I'm already craving for one.
Pizzas make life a little brighter and happier! ❤️🍕
Guatemala is on my list and now the volcano pizza is too! Watched this while eating a pizza with green olives & pineapple lol
Beryl, NYC is so close to Trenton, where I grew up. You should hop on the train and go to DeLorenzo’s, a nationally known tomato pie restaurant. Yep, in Trenton pizza is called tomato pie and no, it is not a pie made with slices of tomatoes! We love them so much we have them shipped to us here in FL! 🍕
Hey, Beryl, you and Esther (in this video) have such similar voices. Cool beans!
Thank you Beryl. I have some new ideas thanks to you and some fellow fans. It is so versatile it can be served any time of day. Yup, breakfast too. I'm weird that way. The one food where anything goes. Take care. 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
Hi Beryl! I really enjoy your channel and wanted to comment on this because I also grew up in the New Haven, CT area. I know you live in NYC but at some point, you really have to make the 2 hour drive up to New Haven and stop at Sally's Apizza or Peppie's Pizza for a clam pie. It's unlike anything you have ever tasted when it comes to pizza and absolutely worth the trip. I personally prefer Sally's myself but they are 1a and 1b on the top 10 pizza places I have ever eaten at and I lived in NYC for a few years myself. Enjoy :-)
I love seafood, and that clam pizza looks a-MAZE-ing!
Loooved this video kinda getting gbs vibes which I dearly miss but I love your videos even more!!!
Brilliant video. Pizza is the best.
I just finished eating! But Now I NEED a pizza!! LOL
Our local pizza joint does a grilled peach pizza in August when the peaches are ripe. Its amazing! Not sweet!
Ah dang, I'm a bit late to the party but this weekend I will be setting up, for the first time, the roccbox pizza oven my dad gave my husband and I as a wedding gift, and I'm super excited about it. I just finished settling my poolish in the fridge to make the dough tomorrow and pizza on saturday :D
Will be going to Guate in June!!!
Our scout troop is known for their dutch oven pizzas made over a campfire. So much fun to make and delicious to eat.
I like this this should be a staple type of content. I'm a artichoke spinach Roma tomato and pecarino with extra garlic super yummy
Look at Beryl, making great big stories! :D
