  • A Few Minutes of Fun
    In this series you can join me at the craft table once a week for a few minutes of art and craft creativity - between fifteen and thirty minutes usually, depending what we're playing with.
    This quartet of Meadow Postcards come to life with some simple collaging over the embossed watercolour backgrounds from a previous episode (watch me create the backgrounds here - • A few (more) minutes o... ).
    I'm using mostly Tim Holtz Idea-ology elements (widely available)... the Paper Dolls, Film Strip Ribbon, Number Snippets and Curator Labels, plus some dried seedheads gathered on a forest walk. There are also some washi tapes from Finnish company Paper Garden. See their beautiful products here: shop.papergard...
    Also used: my PaperArtsy EAB34 Cornflower Edition stamps; Ranger Ink Distress Crayon in Picket Fence; Archival Ink Pad - Olive; Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher Stapler; Tim Holtz scissors by Tonic Studios; Tim Holtz Design Tape; PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic - Snowflake

    I very much love your style and attention and appreciation to detail and letting it be. I kinda scream inside when someone makes a gorgeous background or take a glorious Tim paper and then covers ever inch with another layer and then covers every inch of that layer so the previous layers are totally obliterated. I love how you let those little details shine and like you said sometimes they do get covered up for the sake of allowing the rest to shine but you the artist know they are there😁 thank you for sharing your few minutes of fun with us, I know I enjoyed it😁😁💕

      Thank you so much for that lovely, thoughtful comment. It's those little peeks at the background layers which give the whole thing depth and extra meaning for me. It can hurt sometimes when you lose a favourite little detail, but as you say, I know it's there!
      So happy that you enjoyed watching these come to life - I really did have lots of fun with them.

    It’s so refreshing to see your work and thought processes. I enjoy watching others’ creativity but have become tired of everything turning out the same, especially using Tim Holtz’ products. Now, at last, I am seeing something different that speaks to me.

      For the most part, I don't feel the urge to "do" anything with them - they are small artworks in their own right. And the joy for me is in the making. Their purpose is served... I'm not quite sure what you "do" with any art!
      One could frame them individually or as a set, but mine mostly live upright in crates or boxes around my studio, to be flipped through for inspiration or for pleasure. They could be card toppers or go in a journal (the flowers would get flattened, but that's fine by me if that's where they're going - flowers should be pressed in a book).
      Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I'm so happy you're enjoying the videos.

    I love watching you collage and I enjoy your wonderful commentary, giggles and the smile I think we all hear in your voice ! Beautiful work, a question about your seed heads and grasses, do you just dry them or treat them in some way? I thought they may become brittle? Thank you

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  Місяць тому

      What lovely feedback, thank you - happy you are enjoying the videos so much - and yes, I'm usually smiling... I'm having fun!!
      Obviously, dried flowers are always going to be somewhat fragile even if you coat them with matte or multi medium (I don't usually, but it has been known). But I've been adding twigs, dried stems and seedheads to my artworks for years now, and they're all fine. The occasional floret or tiny piece of twig breaks off, but the delicate ephemerality of the work is part of its beauty, I think. I'm not making these to last for centuries!
      When I glue flowers or seedheads into journal pages, then I will usually seal over the top with additional glue or medium, but I can't really see any difference between those that I've done that to and those that I haven't.

  • @roseshaw04
    @roseshaw04 Місяць тому

    These cards are beautiful - moody, yet light and airy at the same time. Since the figures and the dried plants are only stapled, how do they hold up without getting damaged? How do you use these cards? How do you store them? I am learning so much from watching you create. Thanks so much.

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  Місяць тому

      Thank you - love the moody yet airy thought (that's me!). And I'm delighted you are enjoying the videos.
      Obviously, you can't hurl these around without paying attention. Dried flowers are always going to be fragile even if you coat them with matte or multi medium (I don't usually, but it has been known). But I've been adding dried stems and seedheads to my artworks for years now, and they're all fine. There's no problem with the figures - they are flat to the card, so you'd have to work quite hard to damage them.
      If you've seen any of my Tag Crate videos in the Shorts, these postcards are often stored similarly, stacked upright in a crate or box for flipping through. Or you can frame them and hang them on the wall. Or I also have some dangling from clips on my Tim Holtz Clip Carousel (sadly no longer available, unless you can find one hiding in somebody's stock room somewhere... www.createncraft.com/product/advantus-idea-ology-clip-carousel/ )
      You could use them as card toppers (as long as you add tissue around them for delivery purposes), or in a journal page, as long as you can live with a little flattening to the surface of the page. In that case, I would probably glue down the individual seedheads after closing the book to see where they "land". If I knew I was going to be posting them, I'd use sturdier flower heads, probably.
      Hope that helps.

      @@w0rdsandp1ctures I so appreciate your insights. I plan on doing some "experimenting" - though I just need the confidence to try. Thank you!!

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  Місяць тому

      Experiment away... it's all about playing, and seeing where you end up.
      Don't aim for a result exactly like something else you've seen - you won't get the same thing. I don't get the same thing twice myself, even if I use the same ingredients and method - that's the joy of making art.
      So play with colours that make you happy, and explore. After all, it's not life and death... what's the worst that can happen?! You might end up with something you don't like very much - but it's just a bit of paint and paper. Start again with some fresh paint and paper and experiment again. The playing is most of the point for me, not the results...
