🔍 How to Find the BEST Samples For Your Beats! // My Process to Mastering the Hunt

  • Sampling is a big part of the foundations of beat making. In this video I am going through my process to find the best samples possible. I started collecting records before venturing into making beats, so vinyl sampling is very important and meaningful to me. Everything starts with the records; it is a great way to connect with your samples, and to find chops you may never have seen otherwise.
    For this beat, I used the MPC One as the standalone tool to flip the samples, including drums and melodies.
    I hope you enjoy this workflow, and the sample based beat, and I hope the video provides some inspiration for your own production. I will be in the comments, so let me know what you want to see in a future video!

    I've had this record for years and would have never thought it could be flipped like this. Very inspiring!!

    Man, this was super helpful! I totally fall into the trap of sitting down to make a beat and beginning by sifting through records to find a sample, only to get frustrated and give up. I'm totally going to try this method. And dude, this beat is a heater!! Love your channel 💥

    This video is everything i need...because i am literally the opposite of what you are saying...i need to change...i have like 5 crates of records packed..tons...but I will try and find a sample as I'm trying to make a beat...i need to go thru my records and just spend time finding samples...because I'm coming to the idea that it is mad frustrating trying to make a beat and at the same timefind a sample etc for what I'm doing...

    Yoo I used to do this as a teenager (I use a discord server or my Discogs wantlist now to spare my vinyl sleeves), but I'd write notes about cuts on the paper vinyl sleeve with a pencil while listening. Still have a few jazz records with long lists inside noting every sax lick that could be used for beatmaking.

    1. Get the vinyls.
    2. Listen and make note of interesting sections. Speed up/down or Pitch up/down.
    3. Chop samples up.
    4. Make beat.

    • @HOLLASOUNDS
      @HOLLASOUNDS 5 місяців тому +1

      Id record the entire record and then use a DAW sampler to do everything. I dont have the space for Vinyl and plenty of samples to find from CD.

  • @Drrolfski

    This systematic approach sucks all the joy and spontaneity out of sampling and degrades it to an industrial process. Helpful if you want to become a professional but let's be honest here: 99,5% of us will never go there. It is a nice example though that you used for this video.

    • @HOLLASOUNDS
      @HOLLASOUNDS 5 місяців тому +2

      what makes someone a professional vs not? I think everyone would want to be making some success out of there beats otherwise whats the point if your the only one listening to it? As for his process, its more complicated then I would do it as I would just record the entire Vinyl records one ofter the other then search for samples onces there on My computer and DAW.
