Wow! This is by far the best breakdown and simplified explanation of this drug. I was put on Clonazepam 1mg tablet to be taken at bedtime for anxiety and insomnia after losing my Mother to cancer. It was a total game changer and helped me greatly BUT I began to have huge sugar/food cravings after taking it (Not good right before bed) so YES, it made me gain extra weight. Also, I began to have rapid blurred vision regardless of a new prescription for contacts & glasses. I was a casual wine drinker (I've quit drinking) and this just exacerbated the side effects. I stupidly just stopped taking the drug after being on it for 8 months. That was the worst 72hrs of my life! I couldn't sleep, I became anxious and paranoid, I was grinding my teeth & clinching my jaw (Which I've never done before) I had major mood swings and irritability, depression and zero ability to stay focused on any given project or task. It took me almost 45 days to wean myself off of Clonazepam. I went from 1mg down to 0.5mg for 3 weeks to 0.25mg for 2weeks and then 0.25mg every other day for 2 weeks and then no more!... It's a very effective drug however, because of the side effects and its addiction abilities, I no longer wanted to be on it. I've worked through my grieving process and adapted new healthy habits & hobbies to keep me positive & busy, so I'm very satisfied with my life and myself. So for anyone on this drug, really sit down and weigh the Pro's & Con's of this drug and whatever you do - DO NOT STOP COLD TURKEY!....
Not addictive, The medical community most likely taught you that it was addictive but Benzodiazepines has the lowest risk of addiction. According to Benzodiazepine information coalition only 0.2% of the population will qualify for having a addiction to the drug, The drug causes dependence not addiction and they are not the same process, you're basically victim blaming and insulting everyone who took this benzo as prescribed and got hurt. Second stop telling people not to go cold turkey, Many of us don't have that privileges you're scaring people on a option they don't have.
@@Malc4dead Please stop taking it asap. The withdrawal can only be explained as going through hell. Don’t stop cold turkey- taper off. The sooner the better. You could have seizures or worse die. Please research benzodiazepines. They are dangerous. I wish you well.
@@fragileone281 why do you suggest that I stop taking it asap and then you say that withdrawal can be hell? I can avoid withdrawal by continuing to take benzos while treating my underlying medical condition.

Oh boy lol, Just wait until you find out that according to Benzodiazepine information coalition that over 76% of those who had to stop their benzodiazepines did so because they started having withdrawal symptoms while on the drug from Musculatory, Neurological all the way to 81% developing visual and perception issues with 42% developing vison loss... Why do you think the FDA issued its 3rd black box warning published Sept 23rd/2020? Wait until you realize that "Benzo kindling", Tolerance, tolerance withdrawal meaning you withdrawal even on the medication, Adverse reactions, Shocked Nervous system both CNS and PNS all the way to paradoxical reactions isn't just common it's expected... That's literally why there's a recommendation not to take a benzo longer then 2-4 weeks max.
Probably the most informative video I've found on clonazepam. I've been trying to understand clonazepam and how it actually works for years. I take 4 tablets of 0.5mg a day and I'm a prisoner :( I am also on 120mg of methadone as well. I still can't sleep.
I'm glad that the video was helpful Julie! But I'm sorry to hear about your poor experience with the drugs. Methadone can definitely contribute to sleep disturbances, including insomnia. I always recommend letting your healthcare provider know about the side effects you experience. - Ryan
If you have sleep problems just wake up early in the morning and the first thing you have to do is taking natural light everyday, it doesn't matter if it's sunny, just take it for 20 minutes and your hipothalamus and suprachiasmatic nucleus in 2 weeks will start to put you to sleep easy and well.
And you never will again, Using a benzodiazepine to help you sleep is the worst decision you've made. Tolerance withdrawal will effect you to which no matter how much you increase the drug it just won't work for you anymore and that happens to literally everyone, Not only with GabaA neurotransmitters be injured due to the benzo but without GABA now, You're melatonin production will not function anymore which also due to the drug, you're either have permanent issues sleeping once that happens or it'll take you years to regain that function normally again

I've read, that according to some studies: clonazepam and alprozelam are 'the most effective benzos' in order to treat panic disorder/generalized anxiety disorder. Old study. Any new data? And what's your opinion? Is very interesting, that the most treatment provided is Ssri:s. Thanks for this channel 🙏 Excellent info *****
LOL you're lying, according to The American Psychology Association, Benzodiazepines information coalition and The Creator Leo H sternbach, There's currently no research on long term effectiveness, safety and improvement of anxiety and depression longer then 3 months in the world... None Why? Because benzodiazepines AREN'T CREATED FOR ANXIETY OR DEPRESSION. News flash, only America and Canada use benzos longer then recommended which is 2-4 weeks max, that's because anxiety is a ling term condition and benzo as coined by the creator begins to destroy your nervous system in as little as 3 weeks, if you're taking a benzo longer then 4 weeks it's already too late for you the Nervous system is already break down, could take 2 months to 20+ years... Eventually the bill comes due, people develop neurological condition all the way to visual loss in benzos. The FDA and American Psychology Association actually refuse to do a long term research publication on benzos longer the 3 months because its legal and inhumane so I don't know where you got your info from but do better research. At least look at the official 3rd black box warning published on Sept 23/2020 from the FDA.
I had my cns injured so many times, broken vertebrae, compressed spine after flying on my ass from a large height, which knocked out my stem brain for a few minutes and not to forget all the concussions I've had... I'm an idiot. Developing ptsd didn't help my cns and I just got twitchier and stiffer by the day, to the point where I couldn't sleep anymore because of the twitching and pain. Clonazepam is a gift from the gods, I'm so happy that there was a solution to my problem 🙏🏻
Oh boy... Just wait until you find out that Benzodiazepines has a 3 black box warning for damaging the Nervous system both CNS and PNS which can literally happen at any time...
Clonazepam is good for anxiety but highly addictive when taking it for long period and the withdrawals last more than you can resist it is literally the hell on earth

@@lostboys7984 I agree, my only concern is that there is a push to get people off benzos because of the bad rap it gets from the media, and anecdotal (albeit too many) instances of misuse/dependency. Some people are naturally wired to get hooked on substances whether it's alcohol, benzos or opioids, it's not their fault, but they need to recognise this and be responsible. Plus there is a push from government and some drs are buying into that pressure. Regulations mean there are more dr patient visits mandated, means less appointment slots for new patients. Some patients are pressured to taper even though benzos have improved their quality of life drastically. It will be interesting to see where this goes.
@Malc4dead Totally untrue. People come off this drug because they hit tolerance. Yes, it worked for them as well until it didn’t and doctors up-dosed. Patients do not crave these drugs. Far from it. If you’re an addict, you might, but good luck to you. Many people want off these drugs as they STOP WORKING! Some are abruptly cut off from prescribers who aren’t informed. Hi Angelo, if they don't already know, I would definitely recommend informing your primary healthcare provider or your pharmacist about your concerns. They will be able to ask more about your history and can determine if the medication is safe for you. According to the FDA's 2013 document on Klonopin (Clonazepam): "...nor have the effects of renal or liver disease on clonazepam pharmacokinetics been studied" and "Because clonazepam undergoes hepatic metabolism, it is possible that liver disease will impair clonazepam elimination." The document can be found here: www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2013/017533s053,020813s009lbl.pdf I have also read that long-term use of Benzodiazepines can cause sleep apnea. But again, always consult your care providers for the best information that fits your case!
I was just prescribed .5 X a day for panic and anxiety attacks. It’s not working. however I see my psychiatrist in a couple of week’s. Is there anything else that might work better . I’ve overcome a lot within the last year and am afraid of going back to that dark place.
I would definitely recommend letting your psychiatrist know of any of your concerns with the medication before switching anything up. Clonazepam generally has a quick onset for treating panic/anxiety attacks, about 20-60 minutes. So if it has not been working for you, your psychiatrist may recommend a change in the dose or in the medication. Often times it takes trying out a couple different medications to find which one works best for you (and which one has fewer side effects for you)! Thank you for sharing, I hope you find something that works well.
Try Oral disintegrating clonazepam. They work within 3-5 min. Put on tongue and it melts on your tongue. Very nice cal feeling. No one knows these exit. They are HARD TO GET.
I'm sorry you went through that. The side effects of these medications can be awful sometimes. I hope you have found something that works well for you (medication or other)! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Ethan, have you talked about this with your primary healthcare provider? They may be able to help come up with a plan to help you taper off the medication!
I have a question. Why is klonopin is strong medication? I was taking 0.5 mg and now I'm taking 1mg you would thank 1mg would be weak. But 1mg is strong. Just a question I had sorrt
The "strength" of Klonopin really just comes from it's high-potency when compared to other benzodiazepines. Also, Klonopin is longer-acting than some other benzodiazepines, which also contributes to it's strength. This is why just 1mg of Klonopin can feel much stronger than 1mg of a "weaker" or lower-potency benzodiazepine. Hope that helps!
@@NurseRyanthat's kinda true, Clonazepam, Xanax and Ativan are classified as "New generation benzos" which were created to counteract Valium created in 1963 which ruined a generation of women due to side effects, mind you Valium is the weakest of the benzodiazepines where as new gen benzos are ten times stronger. 1mg of Valium equates to 10mg of Xanax, there are many conversion Benzo based calculators on Google

I tried to taper benzo,, it becomes unbearable during working hours, dizziness, imbalanced, confused. My first reaction is to take another .5mg of clonazepam that helps me with balance within minutes. I know I am going to suffer in older age because of all these medications. Any suggestions? My PC physician just adds more medication. I have to work and it's becoming unbearable.
Try the mitochondriac lifestyle. To be free from these medications, you must also come back to nature. Mitochondriac lifestyle helps you correct your circadian rhythm so you could go to sleep at night naturally, without the meds. There's also suggested diet to ensure your body is functioning according to what nature designated you to do. And practice sleep hygiene.

That's like asking if you can go off of 0.125 and be ok. Only you can know if you're in withdrawal and dependant. If you're suffering badly from withdrawal, no you cannot switch over to the Gaba and use that instead. It's not the same. Clonazepam is a very powerful benzo. Gaba is milder and a supplement.

So for anyone on this drug, really sit down and weigh the Pro's & Con's of this drug and whatever you do - DO NOT STOP COLD TURKEY!....
we are most sorry! BLESSINGS Fr. Arturo Orth priest

Τhis happens with almost all psych meds not only with benzos. They can't be stopped abruptly.

This guy's explanations is mind blowing, how much clonozepam dosage withdrawal causes death or coma.

What about Xanax? I don’t know much about this stuff btw so sorry if that’s a dumb wuestion
LOL you're lying, according to The American Psychology Association, Benzodiazepines information coalition and The Creator Leo H sternbach, There's currently no research on long term effectiveness, safety and improvement of anxiety and depression longer then 3 months in the world... None
Why?
Thank you for sharing your experience! I hope you are doing better these days

According to the FDA's 2013 document on Klonopin (Clonazepam): "...nor have the effects of renal or liver disease on clonazepam pharmacokinetics been studied" and "Because clonazepam undergoes hepatic metabolism, it is possible that liver disease will impair clonazepam elimination." The document can be found here: www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2013/017533s053,020813s009lbl.pdf
I have also read that long-term use of Benzodiazepines can cause sleep apnea.
But again, always consult your care providers for the best information that fits your case!

Hi Ethan, have you talked about this with your primary healthcare provider? They may be able to help come up with a plan to help you taper off the medication!
Please watch all the small dots. Nurse Ryan knows all.

Doctors are not your friends. Good luck.

Being a benzodiazepine, Klonopin does carry the risk of addiction. A quick online search shows that Klonopin is especially addictive compared to other benzodiazepines. Extremely, physical dependence forms very fast so even if you're not abusing it it will eventually still make your body addicted
All psych meds have the potential to be addictive
@@NurseRyanyou're wrong and that's you're problem you're doing quick online searches from sources who don't know what they're talking about.
Benzodiazepines are not addictive infact the Benzodiazepine information coalition show cases that only 0.2% of individuals actually qualify for substance abuse disorder/addiction.
Benzodiazepines cause dependence not addiction, they are two different processes.
Addiction: is Psychological (Mental/having to do with the mind). - DSM-3 and 5-RT Edition
Defined by its traits such as behaviour/repeated patterns when it comes to substances, there's a inability to control one's thoughts/urges which often leads to abusing said chemical chain/substance in hopes of a desired effect/result regardless of negative consequences to a persons, relationships, relations, social circles, financial status, career/job situation and personal well-being.
Dependency: Is Physiological (Physical/has to do with the body).
- ICD-10 Edition
A dependency is best described by its alterations when it comes to substances such as alteration of a person's neurotransmitters within the CNS (Brain and spinal cord) .
The information is important to know but what about your psyche problems?
I'm not sure that I understand the question

@@timzelasko8770 i call BS, you are clearly thinking of another medication. Clonazepam comes in .5, 1 & 2 mg. 2 -4Mg is a very high dose. The most ive taken was 6mg and i almost fell into a coma. You are not taking 650mg of klonopin a night you would be dead, just saying
@@mattb9054 dead as hell
How high are you?
These comments are better than tic tok😂😂😂🤣🤣😂😂. They were referring to GABA
@@timzelasko8770 I think you’re thinking of Gabapentin.
This drug provides a mellow relaxation not strong enough to induce sleep like xanax or Ativan. . It's good though
Yup it's good... Until you develop neurological complications and lose your vision which is why the FDA put out its 3rd black box warning, you can't poke the Nervous system and not expect the bill to come around
@@GCT1990 benzos when used properly are safe at least safer than other categories of drugs like antipsychotics or ssris and SNRIs.

Wait, klonopin is rivotrol?? Huh?
Both are Clonazepam, just different brand names
I was put on orange K's for a year and then I was put up to 1 mg 3x's a day. 1 year later I was moved up to 2 mgs 3xs a day then up to 8mgs a day for another year. Then I was put up to 6mgs of Xanax. At my highest dose was 8 mgs of Xanax and 10 mgs of Ambien. I was put on all this starting in 1994- present.
Thanks for sharing your experience Tracey!
Unbelievable!! Hope you’re doing ok. That’s a lot of medicine!
WOW. How are you feeling on all those benzos for so long? Are you ever planning to try to stop taking them? There has been tolerance built already as you've kept having to up the dose
@@jflsdknf , Hi, I have tried but I was sick and hallucinating both audio and visual. It was one of the worst things I’ve ever gone through. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I was blessed to find a new doctor when I moved to another county. I think at this point it would most likely kill me and I hope I never have to go through this again. The only way I would even consider it is if the Doctor knew about the Ashton manual and knew how to cross over and the correct doses, I would possibly give that a try. If I failed and started getting deathly ill I would probably try to stop it and just go back to my regular dose.
Can you give me the name of your doctor I’m looking for a new one you are one lucky person

I take klonopin on Thursday-sat for work with alcohol to make the day go faster... although I am noticing a dependency on them. Usually take 2 on those days with beer or liquor... Never realized how dangerous
Many have died in their sleep mixing alcohol and benzos.
