This was a particularly pleasant episode. Hugo has spent many years perfecting his formal style and it's nice to see him now become, to turn a phrase, comfortable with comfort. It's lovely to see him in a more casual, laid back outfit whilst remaining elegant.
This episode really connects with me. I don’t have many situations where a suit fits my situation. Cashmere, sneakers, and watches (a personal love) are much more suited to my work dress and lifestyle. Absolutely love the channel Hugo!
Once again Hugo and Sonia your visit into my home is a welcomed treat for me, as your intentional invitation to me into the world of sartorial conversation, is my idea of insiders trading into the world of fashion. You never fail to excite a volcano of enthusiasm in my mind and broaden my outlook into the world of style. Thank you both so much for sharing your experience with us.
I absolutely loved this episode, Hugo! I was flirting with the idea of waistcoats and knits lately and after seeing yours, I grabbed one that I never wore but was going to sell. I cut the tags and I'm loving it...Also, great to hear that you're both on the tweed and vintage watch train! I feel almost inclined to believe that Kosmas is the friend of Panayotis ;) 🇬🇷 beautiful strap on it as well
Hugo, you told us about the “Peaky Blinders” flat cap this year, so I got four of them. I wore a dark cashmere cap with my Harris Tweed 3 piece light gray suit (thrifted) to a function, taking it off and holding it as I entered the room, placing it in my lap during the ceremony. I was complimented by many afterward, that I looked so well put together. Thanks to you, my friend!
Hello Hugo, I want you to know I'm truly grateful and appreciative for you and Sonya. The information you two put out teaches me so much, I'm enjoying this journey of learning about clothing and gentleman's etiquette. Thank you and best wishes!

This was spectacular! I never would have found this except that YT suggested Hugo's *Sprezzatura* video which I loved! I'm obsessed with adopting an *authentic* Sprez style and that video was so on point that I explored the channel and found this special treat! I'm definitely going to try suspenders, an item I've never used in 4 decades of dressing myself! So glad your wife showed me that interested women can wear them and enjoy this look too! 😊💅🏿👠💄

Great talk, Hugo. I am inspired by the sleeveless cardigan you had on. It's has me now looking for that style, seeing now it will work on me, so thanks, Hugo.
Dear friend, you can find it here: www.yeossal.com/collections/yeossal-x-parisian-gentleman/products/cardigan-vest-100-cashmere?variant=39483575435427 (attention the prices are in Singapore dollars, so they are much less in US $). Excellent value for the money. Cheers, Hugo
Very nice my dear Hugo,,and i totally agree with you about wearing sweaters( in my case i love turtle neck ) with sport jacket and pocket square,,,i find it very elegant ,,,,Thanks for your effort,,,always love to you and dear Sonya from Cairo.
Sartorial Talks continues to be more and more compelling every episode. I have to set aside everything to listen to the details both Hugo and your wife discuss. Being English, I have always loved tweed. I must admit I prefer Donegal for the flecks of colour, I purchase a suit from Walker Slater following Sonya's recommendation. Like you Hugo, I am looking to enter the watch world, and I feel I do not know enough to make a good choice when it comes to vintage. Instead I am looking for new, with some style
Good morning Alexander! I also like Donegal a lot (the technique is to throw little thread of different colours during the weaving of this carded wool). All our best to you and your wife. Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
Love that little Angelus. This particular example certainly did patina gracefully over the decades. But, yeah, it's certainly a tad smaller than 38mm - thank goodness ;)
Good evening Hugo and Sonya i hope that this finds you both well 🙏🏻 thank you so much for another fantastic video, and by the way Hugo I have recently just purchased three new Marino wool sleeveless cardigans for my wardrobe, can you believe that and I must agree what a fantastically versatile piece, keep up the amazing work you two I really is truly appreciated, kind regards Ryan.
I've just commissioned a tweed Glen Plaid jacket that I'm looking forward to wearing in the spring, and I've also just added a sand knitted cardigan as well. Love that cardigan vest, Hugo!
I could not agree more on the size of watch dials and your idea of elegance in that area. I like to wear a watch in the proper location, just above the wristbone, and I prefer that it is able to slip discreetly under my sleeve when I am wearing a suit. I have a vintage watch similar to yours. It was my grandfather's, a "trench watch" at 37 mm from the WW2 era.
I love this video especially the section on braces. I’ve been waiting for one and have been wearing them for over thirty years. They are more comfortable then belts. I’m a little flamboyant and love my Trafalgar limited edition braces, which are my trademark
What a great video. the jacket was very nice. But wow! Your vintage watch is beautiful, the moon phase has so much character. Beautifully designed. I agree with you about watch sizes. I like a 38mm on my wrist best. I bought my first automatic watch last year and it's a 40mm Frederique Constant . It's designed with a slim case and small neat lugs so it looks quite like a 38mm. Even though it's new the size gives it a vintage feel.
I agree Michael, I actually discovered recently that the vintage watches were, generally, very reasonable (and elegant) in size. The "fashion" of showing off enormous time pieces on the wrist (no matter how precious and expansive they might be) is a disease of our century. We called this a "parvenu" attitude in French. All my best wishes, Hugo
Thank you Hugo, I wish you and your wife a wonderful year. And welcome into the world of Horology. I congratulate you on your fine piece. That is a very elegant watch despite having all those complications. You and your wife really helped me. Two years ago I started wearing ties, and discovered that is doesn’t have to be a formal thing, it can be an expression of joy. And it brings joy to other people as well. This year I bought myself a white very classic waistcoat, and I thought it would make me feel like a gentleman, but as a bonus it made me feel like a knight
With regards to suspenders, I had bought one last year and then I went looking to buy a pair of trousers for them without the belt loops but I could not find one; I had to buy a pair with the belt loops to modify. I then bought a quick unpick, thread and needle to remove all the belt loops and to sew on the buttons for the suspenders. Luckily the suspenders that I had bought came with the anchoring buttons for me to sew onto my trousers with.
Hello Hugo. I congratulate you and Sonia for your channel and appreciate the breadth of knowledge and inspiration you both transmit. Do you happen to recommend a bespoke/ made to measure tailor in Spain, Madrid? I am about to venture into my first blazer and would like to go custom and quality. Thank you!
Wonderful video . Really enjoy the community, knowledge, passion and advice Hugo and Sonia pass on . Love the cardigan Hugo have you got the link please

A beautiful pair of sneakers can be a great part of your casual wardrobe. I saw your episode on Sneaker selection and you missed an amazing sneaker brand out of Northhampton London called Crown Northhampton. Their sneakers are minimalist which maybe you don't personally prefer, but they are made using high quality leathers and they are recraftable. One of the down sides of sneakers is when the sole wears out you have to throw them away. Not with Crown Northhampton. love the episode. For those of us in the US there is a small company making suspenders and shirt tail garters here called KK&J. They make high quality made in USA products. I have a pair of their shirttail garters and they are great.
I agree with you concerning Crown dear Arnold. I actually discovered the brand after my episode on Sneakers (hence the importance of an active comment thread like this one). All my best, Hugo
In the US the sleeveless cardigan is known as a sweater vest. It’s a tremendously versatile garment. Works well under an odd jacket much like a waistcoat. The one Hugo has on is extra refined due to the cashmere. Lovely
I owe my sartorial elegance to you Hugo J and your lovely wife Sonya. I would love to see the often overlooked aspects of jewelry, time pieces and general grooming. Appreciate your advice!
Thank you so much for your incredible job, monsieur Jacomet. You and Sonia motivated me to start my sartorial journey. Actually I only have rtw blazers and I want to have my first made to measure suit. The reason is my future wedding. I wanted to have something that I can not only wear once, but also use it from time to time at my job and going to the church, for example. I would be honored if you could give me a recommendation. I love wide lapels btw. God bless you and your beloved wife Sonia.
I consider Cardigan Vests, turtleneck sweaters and cardigan sweaters something really elegant, the mock neck is more casual but s as Lao great looking. Love this subject!!
Remember 2 of my drake’s cardigan popularised by Bruce Boyer in lambswool they were fantastic! But my favourite is a knit westcoat from Jeremy Hackett ! It has the point finish as the bottom but it was knit in charcoal wool. The perfect cardigan!
Your tweed Hugo...WILL...survive you because of the way you take care of things...how it is made...and that it is a tweed...!!! My oldest garments (over 100 years in service) are traditional brain-tanned leathers and hand-oven wools like tweed. These items wear like "soft armor" and can be passed down generationally when truly bespoke in nature...and moderately taken care of... You also helped me (thank you!) to give a name for my own style (comparatively to your own beautiful one!)...I AM...pure "Rustic Class" in nature when it comes to my wardrobe, which, when done well, and bespoke (as it should be) most find it to be nothing but "classy." "Rustic Class" covers everything on the spectrum from well-groomed Western CowGirl/Boy to what my Native American Ancestors wore. Taking the finer skills of the sartorial creator and combining them with traditional materials like sewing with real sinew, silk, flax, threads...brain-tanned leathers...really well made hand-woven wool fabrics (like tweed)...the related materials, will provide anyone with a level of style and class on parr (but very different) with what is found in most cities in my experience... Thank you once more for not only a wonderful presentation in this video discussion but educational as well. Blessings, j
Amazing to see Hugo comenting and wearing sneakers. It became very quickly another great addition to my wardrobe when I bought a very slim silhouette leather one, very versatile. The thing is that people are combining it with suits and very formal events, which I rarely agree, but besides that, it definitely has a place in the wardrobe of a well dressed gentleman
Hello Hugo. Very, very nice pick with this Angelus. I did a bit of research, and it appears that this specific model does indeed have a case of 38mm. What is ironic is that, in the early 50's, this would have been considered large, as most watches were in the 30mm - 36mm range. I believe your model was produced in very small quantities, and has the interesting feature of being "antimagnetique", which is probably achieved by the addition of a soft iron cage around the movement, which helps explain the relatively large case (for its time).
Good evening Hugo...your discoveries are impressive..suggestions buy more sleeveless cardigans for the fall/winter 2022-23....?braces...i sew my buttons on the outside of my pants....Why???? If Gary Cooper could do it so can i.....i love the way you compliment your wife..keep it up.....her taste in waistcoats is par outstanding....keep it up Sonya...Cheers to you both.....peace
Dear Mr. Jacomet, I would like to ask you for an advice. I am going to Paris in a few weeks and I plan to have a 3 piece made-to-measure suit made there. I have seen you mention both Howard’s Paris and Scavini Tailleur in your videos and I am choosing between these two interesting alternatives. I am going to have a pair of trousers made at Scavini for sure, but I still haven’t decided where to have the suit made. I am sure both of these are great choices, but a nudge to the right direction would be very much appreciated. Thank you for the high quality videos and for teaching so much about the sartorial world. Best regards, Val
Hello Mr. Jacomet, Couldn't agree more on the watch trend that even dress watches are being produced at 40+mm sizes. These dimensions are a big disconnect from the understated elegance of a classy watch. If you are looking for a alternative source of suspenders I can recommend Serà fine silk. Greetings from Portugal
We definitely agree on vintage watches--love your Angelus on that gorgeous strap! Angelus is similar to Universal Geneve--a company that sadly is no where near what it once was in their glorious past (and smaller watches are invariably much more elegant and discreet) :)
Thanks a lot again Hugo about what you say on my atelier and creations... My target will be to make you try my dragon fury WITH one of your suit......I'm so sure that it fits so well that you will be convinced..... best best !! Corthay Christophe
Love cashmere jumpers. Work perfectly under a jacket in cold weather and can be found in a variety of amazing colours if your so inclined to be more bold. One other downfall with cashmere, the moths love them too, they will always go after cashmere over wool.
stunning watch, I reckon it is 38mm at most. couldn't agree more on watch sizes. I even have a couple of 34mm vintage watches, if its beautiful enough that is plenty big enough.
I'm a fan of the turtleneck. Elegant yet humble. I like to don a sportcoat but a shirt and tie seems too much for everyday wear especially when my peers dress very casual. Suspenders are something I need to look into. On cold winter days, I've worn high-waisted thick frieze trousers that weight a full kilogramme and a belt is definitely not the way to go. I admire your watch! The moonphase complication is useless yet fascinating and beautiful. I have a Zeppelin LZ129 Hinderburg watch.
Hugo ..very nice watch ..Angelus is a respectable brand...congratulations to Panagiotis Watches is a beautyful world ... Cheers from Greece Salute a Sonya
Good evening Sir.. 2:12 till 2:21 changed my life. I haven't heard much people speaking about "how to dress when we are out to meet someone in person without committing the sin of over- or under- dressing."
This was a really fun episode. My 2021 discovery was a flannel made-to-measure jacket I got for a TEDx talk I presented. All of my previous suits and sport coats had been cheap, off the rack purchases. For what I do (I'm a photographer), I could never comfortably wear them because they were so stiff that when I'd life my arms to take a photo, the whole coat would lift in an unnatural way. By contrast, this new jacket is so easy to wear that I can forget it's there and move how I need to comfortably. Plus it just looks better than anything I've owned before. I'll never buy a fused suit or coat again.
me too I wear cardigans with suits and jackets all the time and it only didn't work when I put on weight during the first lockdown, knits in general don't really work with fat. And I agree, Sonya is a master of the vest.
You'd think knits would be more forgiving with weight fluctuations, but I've come to the same conclusion as you. Also Sonya will be pleased with your comment. Thank you ! Hugo
Dear Hugo, how do you keep your braces? Do you fold them, roll them, hang them? What's the best way to keep them according to you and Sonya? Greetings from NY!!
Thanks so much for posting this. Huge fan. I wanted to grab one or two cashmere pieces you linked, but the price is a bit higher than you mentioned...is there a coupon code or am I missing something? All the best.
Dear Christopher, the prices are correct but they are written in Singaporean dollars! You can calculate them in euros or us dollars on the website I think. Anyway it's a steal for this quality of cashmere. Cheers, Hugo
Hello mr Hugo, good day to you. I enjoyed your video. My question is how would you compare full sleve cardigan against a sports jacket for outdoor use?
@@SARTORIALTALKS I would really like to introduce you to a video I happened to come across a few years ago. It’s called “Knitting Pretty” and was available on the internet via the Yorkshire film footage archives and it’s hard to find these days. It goes into length about the use and care about woollens. I hope you are well.
Hugo: I wear suspenders from 2006, and I know that "Bere Casillas" in Granada, Spain (Elegancia 2.0 in UA-cam) he makes a 3 pieces suit with the suspenders, maked with the same silk of the interior of the waisvoat. If you've a waisvoat with their interior red, blue and green in little squares, your suspenders Will make with this same design bu him. Have a nice week Sir!!!
I understand your problems with elegance and chunky watches (by the way, I recommend a Vulcain Cricket or Vintage Seikos), but what is the case about the glasses you´re wearing? I prefer smaller glasses, which are unfortunately at the moment not à la mode.
Dear Stefan, all this is purely a matter of taste and proportions. I have a very small wrist, but a very (very) big head. Little spectacles look ridiculous on my face 😱. Cheers, Hugo
Oh! Speaking of being over- or underdressed, do you have a video of going into specifics! I have had a personal dilemma with this, coming overdressed to certain occasions just because it was a part of my style, but I still want to be respectful to the guest or host!
@sartorial talks Hi Hugo and Sonya "Les Compagnons du Devoir” This guild keeps getting mentioned in your videos/podcasts (Corthay). Could you perhaps consider doing a video explaining how this guild works and the importants of transmitting craft and tradition through generations. I would love to see this:-)
@SARTORIAL TALKS I'm going to start my channel soon. I'm going to be getting a custom suit made. It's not many places to wear luxury and beautiful clothing. I have all kinds of exotic shoes. From Peccary, Alligator, Nile, Caiman, Ostrich, Lamb, Goat and Calfskin.
Watching Mr Jacomet is a welcome invitation to divert our attention from the divisive & ugly to the more elegant, even if only for a brief time. Thank you for the distraction.
Listening to Hugo I was forced off the couch to go and swap my t-shirt for an actual garment. I agree re: watches 38 or 39 is nice, the new large faces are crude

Do you happen to recommend a bespoke/ made to measure tailor in Spain, Madrid? I am about to venture into my first blazer and would like to go custom and quality. Thank you!
Yes Franco, please contact Joaquín Fernandez Prats in Madrid (you can say you know us). He's a great tailor and a good man. Cheers, Hugo

Great episode. Getting into watches myself. Grand Seiko have plenty of models that seem less chunky with a great face and great movements. Cheers
Thanks Felice. I love Grand Seiko. Hugo
We hear you David and many thanks for your encouraging words, Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
That Harry's Tweet jacket is stunning 🙌🏻

1950's and 60's Omega Constellations and Seamasters are definitely worth looking into. JLC Reverso is also a classic and would suit your style
Nice suggestions, thank you very much, Hugo
Welcome to the addictive world of watches, Hugo. Like the sartorial journey, the world of watches and horology is a deep rabbit hole that never ends.
Thanks for the advice, I'll try to resist it (well, I'm not sure I can...). Cheers, Hugo

Wonderful choices my friend. Cheers, Hugo
I like the sweater. Subtle sophistication!
Thanks my friend. The links are in the description. Great value by the way. Cheers, Hugo
You also helped me (thank you!) to give a name for my own style (comparatively to your own beautiful one!)...I AM...pure "Rustic Class" in nature when it comes to my wardrobe, which, when done well, and bespoke (as it should be) most find it to be nothing but "classy."
"Rustic Class" covers everything on the spectrum from well-groomed Western CowGirl/Boy to what my Native American Ancestors wore.
Blessings,
j
I appreciate your take on elegance. Quite refreshing. Cheers, Hugo
I'm of the same opinion as you, Luiz. Hugo
Many thanks my friend for taking the time to share these informations. Very much appreciated. Cheers, Hugo

Dear Mr. Jacomet,
I would like to ask you for an advice.
Best regards,
Val
Dear sir, please send me this message at hugo@parisiangentleman.fr
Hello Mr. Jacomet,
Couldn't agree more on the watch trend that even dress watches are being produced at 40+mm sizes. These dimensions are a big disconnect from the understated elegance of a classy watch.
If you are looking for a alternative source of suspenders I can recommend Serà fine silk.
Greetings from Portugal
Merci André ! Greetings to all our friends in Portugal (a great country). Hugo
I gotta say that the examples of sneakers you like shocked me a lot.
De la Floride, tres instructif et interessant, merci Hugo ! Totalement vrai et pertinent.

We definitely agree on vintage watches--love your Angelus on that gorgeous strap! Angelus is similar to Universal Geneve--a company that sadly is no where near what it once was in their glorious past (and smaller watches are invariably much more elegant and discreet) :)
Many thanks Koji, and yes I Love my vintage Angelus! Cheers, Hugo
Thanks a lot again Hugo about what you say on my atelier and creations... My target will be to make you try my dragon fury WITH one of your suit......I'm so sure that it fits so well that you will be convinced..... best best !! Corthay Christophe
😂😂 why not my friend. I always keep an open mind ! Bises Christophe !
Love cashmere jumpers. Work perfectly under a jacket in cold weather and can be found in a variety of amazing colours if your so inclined to be more bold. One other downfall with cashmere, the moths love them too, they will always go after cashmere over wool.
You're actually right Gavin, moths tend to appreciate quality wool 😅😱! All my best, Hugo
I recommend the classic vintage cartier tank for a beautiful watch
Beautiful I agree, Best, Hugo
stunning watch, I reckon it is 38mm at most. couldn't agree more on watch sizes. I even have a couple of 34mm vintage watches, if its beautiful enough that is plenty big enough.
I never owned one until I met my wife, she got some for me and I must admit I wear them a lot! So good to see this video Hugo I'm in good company 👌
Great news Kieron ! Hugo
Encore une fois hyper intéressant Hugo. Bravo 👍👔
Merci beaucoup Richard ! Amicalement, Hugo
Wonderful watch you have, Harja. It sounds like you are in the process of mastering your own impression of a strong sartorial aesthetic, bravo! Hugo

You got me really interested in suspenders.
Good evening Sir..
2:12 till 2:21 changed my life.
I haven't heard much people speaking about "how to dress when we are out to meet someone in person without committing the sin of over- or under- dressing."
Of course I had to check out your reference and I truly appreciate knowing that I somehow helped. Bon courage ! Hugo
Congratulations my friend. And thank you for taking the time to share your experience of a well-crafted jacket. All my best, Hugo
I love Harris tweed jackets, They wear well and look smart.
I concur that. Cheers, Hugo

me too I wear cardigans with suits and jackets all the time and it only didn't work when I put on weight during the first lockdown, knits in general don't really work with fat. And I agree, Sonya is a master of the vest.
You'd think knits would be more forgiving with weight fluctuations, but I've come to the same conclusion as you. Also Sonya will be pleased with your comment. Thank you ! Hugo
That Angelus is gorgeous.
Thank you Sir! Hugo
Dear Hugo, how do you keep your braces? Do you fold them, roll them, hang them? What's the best way to keep them according to you and Sonya? Greetings from NY!!
Dear Mauro, I think hanging them is the best way, but as braces are not fragile you can also fold and roll them. Cheers, Hugo
Mock neck all the way! Great vid :)
Understood and I've enjoyed the mock neck very much. Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS perfect. I was missing something. Thank you so much!
Hello mr Hugo, good day to you. I enjoyed your video. My question is how would you compare full sleve cardigan against a sports jacket for outdoor use?
Dear Chandra, both are great. Best, Hugo

Thanks for tuning in ! Hugo
These various situations are not always clear, but we can tap into our intuition and do our best and forget the rest. Cheers ! Hugo
