  • Quick recap from yesterday’s video (link below) on a fix for this generator that would not continue to run. Loosened up the gas cap a bit to allow the tank to vent better and also did a simple carb clean without removing it. Seems to work just fine now.

It's very humid where we live in Louisiana, right here on the lake. I use ethanol-free fuel when it's available. I have used Marine Sta-Bil in my generators for years. I don't run the carbs dry, and I try to run my generator every 3 months or so for about 15 minutes with a 1500 watt heater, allowing a few minutes to warm up at start up and a few minutes to cool down before shutdown. I change the oil and clean and gap or replace the spark plug every spring, more often with heavy use.

Great tips👍🏻 I try to get mine out now every 3 or so months as well and let them run with a load too.

Yes! Mine was doing the same, gas cap not venting was the issue. There is a vent tube on it also however thar was not doing the job. I'll be cleaning and rerouting the venting line next.

I recommend changing the spark plug sometimes when they get hot, they fail, it's a good luck point.

I would try running it with Sta-Bil in the gas since it is in storage more than it is in use.
STA-BIL Storage Fuel Stabilizer removes water to prevent corrosion and cleanses carburetors and fuel injectors. The product also protects the engine from gum, varnish, rust, and corrosion to prolong the life of any engine. One treatment eliminates the need to drain the gasoline of any two or four-cycle engine before storing.

And I also shut the gas off. And run it out in the line and carb before storing it. I live in Florida. I have a 1600 watt. I store it all season until a threat of a hurricane. I've never had an issue in 12 years.

Mine was running good but now I have to have almost full choke to keep it going , been using sea foam in the gas trying to get it cleaned out , so far not working , any suggestions

Maybe clean the carburetor, check spark plug, check fuel filter….lots of little things to check out with these small engines

Take the cap to your local mower shop and see if they have a different brand cap that will fit the tank.

I turn the gas off and let it run out of gas. Before I store it. And I use stay Built in it. It never failed in 12 years.

    Good video, Brian.
Now that it's been a couple more years, what are your thoughts and experience since this video? (Would you buy it again? Have you started it regularly?)

I sold it about a year ago, but it was running fine when I pulled it out a few more times. I’d probably buy it again as a decent backup generator.

I don’t recall anymore, just used the directions they came with. Wasn’t too much to it if I recall

what happened if you accidentally but diesel in it ?

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors
      @BrianWatersOutdoors  Рік тому

Not good. Can try to drain it if you did not run it, but diesel will kill a gas engine

👍 What happen if you start with the tank cap loose and then after a while tightened it again. Will the engine stop or?

That will be my next “experiment”. That exact thought came to be AFTER I covered it up and stored it away.

It will build a vacuum in the tank and the fuel will no longer be able to feed to the carb!

Never had a problem on propane! Until I poured gasoline in it one tank . Next tank shut down

Mine stops if the gas cap is tight. To run it right I MUST loosen the cap about a full turn and it’ll run right. Bad design but runs great if ya loosen that cap.

You need ethinol free and you can let ‘em sit all winter.

    Use Seafoam in the fuel.

I'm betting on the carb. Todays gas will gum up the fuel jet in the float bowl. When you sprayed the carb cleaner up inside you more than likely cleared the gunk.
