  • Hoping I can get some help determining the cause of this generator not functioning correctly after being in storage for 9 months. Again, stored with non ethanol fuel w/ stabilizer, new NGK sparkplug, fresh oil, air filter checked and cleaned. Only thing I can’t locate on this generator is a fuel filter, so not sure if it even has one.
This thing runs fine for a few minutes with a load on it, but as you can see in the video dies after a few minutes. Not sure what is going on with it to be honest. Hoping for some feedback!

did you check too see if it has plenty of oil? the manual says that it is sensitive to bein short on oil and also you're on an incline so your oil level will seem off.

Yes sir, oil level was good. I have a feeling it was the fuel tank not venting properly, but all seems good now.

Try running it on propane. I ran mine on propane and haven't had an issue with it. I bought mine about 4 months ago. The last time I ran mine was 2 months ago. I'll probably bring it out to test it out since I bought it as a back up in case the power went out due to weather.

I’ve been looking at some propane conversion kits for this. Might be a good idea

I got one of these for free because it would shut off after 10 minutes. I determined the low oil switch was actually causing it to switch off. The low oil switch was triggering the low oil alert to ground out the coil and turn it off. What's weird is that I actually drained out some oil and that seemed to fix it. It would stay running with the yellow wire disconnected from the low oil switch. This made me really weary of the reliability of these.

My understanding you should start them occasionally helps to keep fuel lines from gumming up

when you shut it off back in feb did you turn off the fuel and let it die that way. If not after sitting that long you might have varnish build up in the carb.

I did. I made pretty sure I burned up all the fuel in the carb before I stored it.

I did. I cleaned the carb out pretty well, made sure it was on level ground and it ran just fine after that.

Is was the oil level. Has a oil level sensor by the oil dip stick. If it’s angled it will shut off or not start make sure oil is at the full line on dip stick and will work everytime.

Try loosening the gas cap so it can feed the fuel better to carb?

According to my research your oil level cut off switch was probably your most likely culprit here.

If it runs ok on idle, then its the main jets. main jets supply running under load fuel. Personal experience with this brand, is bad. Have a Sportsman 1000i inverter genny, 15 hours on it , ran it every now and then to keep things freed up and working. I just tried to fire it today, nov 3 2023, no compression. I didn't pay enough for this generator to spend any time or money on it beyond maybe throwing a new spark plug at it or maybe a wet start test with oil. Otherwise, in the dumpster she goes.

I wish i could easily tell google this video was not helpful to me even if it might be to someone else. I want to know more about the dual fuel version of this generator because i already know about this kind of problem with gasoline generators. You must pull it out every 4-5 months and run it for a while to keep it in good shape they cant sit for 9+ months and then just run they end up needing repair. Which is what i want to know about propane versions, cus i hear they dont do that.

Valve adjustment? Try propane generator instead.

Never ever use ethanol fuel or many problems end up like this as well.

When I store these I run the carb dry, so I don’t think this was the issue. I also use fuel stab to help even the residual fuel that can get left behind.

Hey Brian, You are giving this piece of cheap junk too much of a benefit of doubt. It's a low price low quality generator that brings it's own set of failure points. It's ok to bash it and the manufacturer. :)

Wow. I have two of these sportsman generations. Both run amazing. One I did repair a wire that came undone in the armature. Customer support from Buffalo Tools is a step above the rest.
