This movement is called "Teza", from the French gymnast who created it about the early 1990s :)

The order of the gymnasts is the ranking. The first shown was last, 2nd shown was 7th, and so on building up to the 1st place which was Dementyeva.

Dementyeva looked beautiful up there (great leo included in the assessment!), but I think she's a little stiff compared to the ease of Preziosa. I'm dying for Elisabetta to put together a totally solid routine in a major competition final and to see how she stacks up to the rest of the field then!

they are called beam. Shoes they're used to help the gymnasts get a better grip on the beam, because it gives your feet a cushion from the pounding/repetition. Also due to some gymnasts having sweaty feet, they wear the shoes, to prevent slipping due to sweaty feet.

I know Prezosa made a few mistakes but her routine was so original. Scorpion turn? GTFO. Amazing.

I liked Millousi's routine (Greece) and think it should have scored a little higher.

I know that in just about EVERY competition there's an ongoing conversation about the commentating and who is bad, terrible, great, biased, awful, good etc. I've been watching four different languages for the past seven months in my free time reviewing all the meets I can find. They ALL have flaws. I've gone from loving some, to hating them; hating others to appreciating something they offer. But, I'll tell you what, a few meets or even one whole season doesn't always adequately sum up the totality of their ability. AND. Believe it or not, in four different languages, EVERY group has been biased -- being harsh on others and calling their own gymnasts' errors very slight. It turns out, no matter who you are, this just happens. They work most closely with the gymnasts of their home country and sometimes don't even speak the language of other competitors, so they never get to develop a close relationship with those gymnasts except maybe via a translator. Turns out, when you know that your gymnasts are probably going to listen to your broadcast, and -even if they don't- you have a very close relationship, it just changes how you speak about them. ....on a completely unconscious level. You see their errors differently bc you know either how much better that is from what you've been seeing in their practice for months...or because it's just not how we speak about people we care about. We don't blurt out their mistakes the same way....and we relish in their successes. But, for everyone that hates one style, someone else will hate it. Some say NBC are negative, but I find their comments to really explain where the deductions are coming from and make the scores much less of a mystery. Other times I want to hear someone saying how great everyone is bc that's just what I want to hear -- but, even though I'm very well-versed in gymnastics -- the scores often come up and I'm like, what the fuck happened? I don't understand. Other languages can focus on things outside of the skills/gymnastics too much and can be really harsh unnecessarily, but that can also be really funny when you're in the mood for it.
Still, I do want to say one thing about Al Trautwig since QueenieQue mentioned him.....and he exists in a position that most other languages don't have and is just a really common thing in all US sports. He's meant to be the commentator that relates to the layman at home who doesn't understand things. He's meant to point out things that don't make sense or that someone who doesn't understand gymnastics might be at home thinking or wondering. It's meant to both relate to that person and not let that "thing" go, but also he's supposed to ask Tim and Elfi questions for them to explain to the person at home. ...to start a dialogue. He can often sound very genuine like HE wants to know that answer. But, after watching several years of competition in a row, I've heard him earnestly ask them (sounding very confused) the same question to them four times. Now, I know he knows that answer. He's really not that dumb. But, he is trying to sound that unsure. Trust me, it used to drive me nuts too, but it does actually have value. And, he's been doing this for soooo many years that there's no way he wouldn't just automatically pick up all kinds of information; so, it's clear about 80% of his questions aren't his own for his own personal interest. His comments are often meant to reflect the thoughts people at home might be thinking (wouldn't you like abs like that, well it looked pretty darn good to me - i don't get it, that music has to be so distracting [even though he's heard eight hundred times that beam gymnasts don't hear it]). This person exists in a LOT of sports in the US to make them more friendly to new people watching so that it isn't just a bunch of terms and names and jargon they don't understand as if they aren't part of this elite, exclusive club that's in-the-know. I understand that it's a pain in the ass to listen to, but for the brand new person it's actually meant to be very helpful. He's not an expert, he's just a tv commentator who does great at broadcasting and telling the fluff stories. Juuuust wanted to explain his role a bit to anyone who doesn't live in the US or who just wasn't aware and had been assuming he's really just obnoxiously stupid.

There are 2 different commentators that commented here. During Whelan's routine, they were the BBC commentators, who are very good commentators. During Izabsa's and Pilankulesza's routines, they are the euro sports commentators, who are plain awful. BBC is much better

@benrobinson77 i disagree with that though, bbc commentators are very good, when this starts and it is those commentators its is good, informative commentating, its the euro sport guys i dont like!

Whoever these commentators are they are completely unfit for the job... When they commentate on the floor final they call out sandra izbasa on he medals she earned saying she doesnt deserve them!?!? then says that pilan-kulesza has a "high quality dismount" with a very low landing!?!?!?!?!! awful.

@kd719 Oh, no, no, Al Trautwig makes Tim Daggett look like a god. Trautwig has actually said on tape, "Well, I'm not much of a gymnastics expert, but..." I could probably take any random UA-cam video viewer and they'd be better than Trautwig.
