HOW TO EASILY SET UP A DOMICILE IN SOUTH DAKOTA | AMERICAS MAILBOX | MAIL FORWARDING SERVICE

- In this episode we talk about our South Dakota Domicile and give our Americas Mailbox review.

So what is Americas Mailbox? Americas Mailbox is a South Dakota Mailing service that and is currently our RV home base until we find land in South Dakota. They can also be looked at as a South Dakota Residency Service since they not only help you with mail, but also the other things like South Dakota vehicle registration, drivers license and insurance. You know, the minimum things needed to set up a South Dakota residency.
We singed up with Americas Mailbox and have been using their services since May of 2020. We opted for their Titanium Package for our mail. All of our mail comes to Americas Mailbox in Box Elder, SD. We then get a notification on our phones and email that a new piece of mail has arrived. We can view it quickly on a mobile app and if needed have them open and scan and put back in our box or open and shred. When we get to an area that we can have mail forwarded to us, we simply put the request online to Americas Mailbox and they send it as a "PACKAGE". It is extremely convenient and makes life on the road simple.
We also opted for a small fee to have Americas Mailbox help us with our South Dakota Vehicle Registration. It was well worth the money for us since registering a vehicle in South Dakota has to go through the local county. Also, if you have a loan on your vehicle(s), you will have to get a temporary title release from the company financing your vehicle(s). Americas Mailbox will make this request for you if you sign up for their South Dakota Vehicle Registration service.
Americas Mailbox is not just for people who are full time rving. Although they do have a campground and we consider it our rv home base for now. If you full time travel and need a place to get your mail, this is a great place for everyone. We can't say they are the best mail forwarding service, but can say we have been very pleased with their services so far. They have made our South Dakota domicile experience a great one so far.

Thanks guys. It's good to be back. Yes, we have been impressed with how easy it was to become SD residents. And the savings in vehicle registration fees was amazing too. We couldn't believe it only took 15 minutes for us to get our drivers licenses. In and out so quick and efficient. If you ever have questions about SD domicile, we've got you covered. 👍
It should be illegal for states and local governments to tax expats living abroad. Taxation is universal yet medicare is not. 🤬
South Dakota was one of our three choices for domicile too! We wound up going with Florida and using Escapees for our mail service. ~ Shion and Matthew

Thank you for the compliment. As far as benefits for registering early before retirement, i really don’t know. It worked for us because we didn’t have a home base and needed one. Maybe one benefit could just be establishing a mailing address early? I’m really not sure. Sorry. I wish I could be more help. Good luck on your adventures!

Does anyone know what people do about filing taxes when traveling full time? Do they use americas mailbox for address on state and federal tax returns also?
For us, we are legally domiciled there in SD so we do all of our tax filings using that address. Im not sure if people work in other states or have property in other areas how that works. You would probably have to contact a professional for those answers.
I am living in another country, can i use Dakota Mail? No car or house...
We don’t have specifics for those living out of the country. I would give Americas Mailbox a call to get detailed info regarding laws and regulations.
Are you still doing Americas mailbox? And registration?
We just recently took up residency in another state due to new employment but we have nothing but good things to say about Americas Mailbox. Our registration was easy and they took care of the paperwork for us. I’ve heard that insurance companies are cracking down on domicile addresses so I would look into that further before making a decision on which state/company you use for domicile. 🤗
Is there an America's Mailbox in Texas, or is it another company in Texas?
Escapees is the one most the people we know use out of Texas.
What did you do for health insurance
We use the same insurance from before we hit the road. Most people we meet have it through an employer. There is groups like Escapees/Xscapers that can help guide you on this. Hope this helps....www.escapees.com/healthcare-options-for-pre-medicare-rvers/

Just wondering if you had to pay sales tax on the vehicles you registered. I see Box Elder has a 6.5% rate which would be a significant amount of $$ on a high end RV.
We purchased our RV in Nevada about a year before we domiciled in SD. I believe the sales tax in Nevada is higher than SD so we didn't have to pay anything extra. I do believe that (might want to call America's Mailbox) if there is a difference in tax rate, you may have to pay that difference. We aren't positive of that but it worked out great for us. 👍
If u go with America’s mailbox in SD don’t use George for vehicle registrations, it’s a nightmare, poor communication, unprofessional, just plain aggravating
