You guys are completely underappreciated. From your video work (there is so much involved in that, and you do it right. Great awareness of lighting, etc) to your editing and voice overs, and your timing and storytelling is very high quality stuff. You may be on the verge of breaking out. So...I saw your video about evaluating your life path. You do what you gotta do. But your personal story--super unique as a couple raised in the Midwest going to your roots, and being bilingual--is compelling. I'm rooting for you because I know how hard you've worked (and likely taught yourself, and consistently improved). From a fellow Midwesterner (WI) to you: Thanks for this special look at Mexico through your eyes.
this is the sweetest comment, Heidi, thank you 🥹 we read it when it first posted and I read it again and again for encouragement ❤️ we are self-taught and have invested MANY hours and resources to be able to do this as well as we can! thanks so much for rooting for us, Heidi 🙏🏽
I'm an American citizen and married to a Mexican woman, in Morelia, Michoacan. I don't know about you "risking your lives" but after two years here, I've still NEVER been approached or victimized by ANY crime. I love my life in Mexico. Assimilation, and appreciation of the culture is key. Yes, the Carnitas are GREAT as well as all the amazing Mexican food. Excellent video... VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽
in retrospect, we know there was never any real danger, but in the moment of accepting an off-the-radar ride with a stranger, it did feel like a risk. We know Michoacan is more than just the negative sensationalized news media, but one should still take precautions in life because better safe than sorry, right? Although, we definitely didn't follow that rule in this case!
One thing I notice about the places in Mexico that I've seen in these videos: people. People are everywhere. Families. Old. Young. Just people out living life. That is so cool.
Right?! We’ve noticed that too and that’s the kind of environment we feel more at home in. Even among our own families back in the US, people start to grow distant, don’t gather as much as they used to, while in Mexico gathering feels so effortless…
@Eat Baila Travel Totally agree. I went to a funeral about a week or so ago and the preacher said that the only time people get together now is when there is a death. That we don't have family reunions like we used to. Your point is so...on point!
Love how different the Mexican hospitality is than here. I’m always amazed of how nice and welcoming they are!!!! Great video as always amigos and them carnitas will be added to my bucket list!!!
They really were wonderful people! I sometimes wonder if they are overcompensating in an effort to change people's minds about Michoacan's bad reputation 🤔
One of the best videos. Your gratitude towards this community and sharing such a special event jumped through the screen. This is what Mexico is about!!
Really one of your best videos on so many levels! So glad that you are recommitted to this channel. It is so appreciated! Now I want to go to Michoacán so badly!
100% love, love, LOVE this! Would totally be down to see more videos about cities/towns/festivals not as visited or known by tourists. Gracias you guys!
Very cool that you ran into neighbors from Burbank (LA county) and Victorville! Great recommendation of Grand Central Market in Downtown LA. California representing. I live in Koreatown in Los Angeles. Keep up the great Taco chronicles. 👍
As always great job on this video. Now this is culture! People there are so friendly. Seemed like a great experience guys. Keep your videos coming and keep up the great work.
Hi Jenny & Kevin, nice to see your latest video again. Since met your folk in San Miguel, we watched almost all of you episodes. Great stuff! We really like your bilingual talkings. Your Spanish is really musical to our ears. Since then we also visited Delores Hidalgo, Querétaro , Puebla, Cholula . All places are great. Please keep going. We’ll follow your steps. Charles & Kathy.
Hi Charles! So great to see a comment from you after meeting in SMA 😊 please say hi to Kathy for us. Thanks so much for supporting our channel hope you are enjoying the videos! 😊
What a great video, you both show the Mexican hospitality and great food, is the reason so many of us love Mexico and look forward to going every year. Thank you for giving us an amazing experience and honour to experience your country and culture. 🇲🇽❤️
Just discovered your channel. I live rurally outside Patzcuaro, a US immigrant. Thank you for this real honest video of Michoacan. Plannong to travel to Veracruz this year rather than the Pacific side for my vacation, including Xalapa. That video is how I found you. Love your channel.
Sorry for the late reply, but thanks so much for your comment! It's so great to learn about who are viewers are and how they find us. I hope you enjoy Veracruz!!
What an awesome experience this festival! Thank you for showing this part of Mexico I have not seen. The residents were so hospitable. About the Uber ride, next time text the car's plate number to a friend or family member just in case.
That was a spectacular video! I feel all the things that you expressed about religion. (That is, there are aspects that have pushed me away from it) But in this setting and combined with indigenous tradition there's something about the love, sense of community, and respect that makes you feel like you're part of a greater whole. And the sheer pageantry of it all is awesome. Your video production quality is on point. I personally love nothing better than a good festival video.😍
Hey guys, the last two videos have much catchier titles and it looks like your views are up. Keep up the good work and keep the good content coming. I miss Quiroga!

What a truly beautiful community of souls. I'm so glad you had a chance to visit and experience the hospitality of the people. I would love to visit - but how did you manage to digest all of that food? Warmest regards Jennie
You know what, we actually didn’t feel super heavy the way we sometimes do when we eat pork but these carnitas were not hard on the digestive system, surprisingly!
What really makes my day? A daily dose of Jenny, and of this extremely yummy Mexican food. And yeah, of course Kevin, too :) So, belleza y sabor. Can't wait for tomorrow's video to learn more about this most fascinating country in the world. And did I mention Jenny and the food? :) :)
In the USA, Catholicism is a religion. In Mexico it is a culture. Remember a lot of the heros of the country were priests . Hidalgo for example. To this day a lot of the people fighting for the rights of the indigenous and fighting against cartel violence are Catholic priests. I agree with you 💯 but try to look at it through their eyes as well.
Yes of course! That’s why travel is so important to us. It gives us the opportunity to see many sides of life and opens our eyes and minds rather than simply believing what we’re told. And you’re so right, Catholicism is so deeply embedded into Mexican culture, it’s definitely a part of who we are even though it’s not a central part of our identity nowadays. We’re so glad we got to experience this festival in Michoacán to see more of the good that comes from Catholicism when community is at the forefront ❤️
Definitely love your videos..............never seen like this outdoor food court with free sample order (not in tiny sample). Keep up the good work...............
I don't know if I'm the only one or not, but all I kept thinking about when they were in line getting carnitas was how GOOD it must smell out there! I mean, all that food! It looked absolutely delicious and I don't even eat pork!
Haha 😆 I’m sure you weren’t the only one thinking that but you’re totally right it did smell sooo good! I’ve been consuming less and less pork lately for health reasons but these didn’t make me feel sluggish at all
Needed a bib watching this episode. All the carnitas made us drool! Similar thoughts and feelings regarding religion, but it is nice to see the tight community coming together for an event. Everyone there seems so generous to share what they have, even if it's small. They give from the heart, and you can tell. Michoacan is definitely on our list to visit, carnitas, culture, and even mezcal in the state, going to be a must stop for us. Thank you for bringing us along on your travels. 👏
I've done the same thing with drivers all over the world. Yeah, not the smartest thing, but generally you make a friend and get a phone number and can use that same driver off app. I've got this Canadian that lives in Hong Kong that we still chat on occasion. Every time I go there he picks me up from the airport for about half what Uber would charge I also finally broke down and did a patron for y'all. Have a merry Christmas.
thankfully, it was a very nice drive with a very nice man! 😀 and thank you, Doug!! It's a great time to join us on Patreon as we'll be revamping it very soon 😊
Awesome! Michoacan really does have the best carnitas and especially in Quiroga. We had some in July at Carmelo's sooo delicious... My parents are from Uruapan and we like to eat them with Chile en vinagre, aguacate, and lemon and salsa. Mmmm
Great video guys & so pleased you are ok.....I did the same when I was 16 an old man driving past & I was stuck 50 miles from home. He said he was going for his weekly Sunday drive whilst wife cooking the dinner. He drove all the way & it was the most scary journey of my life. But fortunately, got home safe & so grateful he was a sweet old man but could of been so different. BTW love the hat Jenny, so cute😁
A weekly Sunday drive, huh? That does sound like something out of a horror movie 😅 unfortunately there’s so much evil in the world it’s human nature to feel fear, but thankfully our guts haven’t steered us astray (yet!)!
This video had me salivating the whole time 🤤 lol. I hope to make it there one day and try the carnitas. How funny the lady that mentioned the carnitas at Grand Central Market cuz I was thinking the same thing. They are so good, but I hate driving out to LA (traffic) however they are definitely up there in yum. Thanks for the video guys, saludos!!
We loved loved loved Morelia, and Patzcuaro was lovely but very small, so there’s more to do in Morelia, but it is quieter in Patzcuaro… although we were only there during Día de Muertos so I’m just assuming it’s quiet outside of those dates
we were soo worried that the audio was going to be awful but we also just recently invested in some new professional microphones and they came through!! 🙌🏽😮💨 thank you!!
As a part time Uber driver in the US, I can say that long rides are generally better than short ones, but when you go completely out of town you are faced with the probability that you will be going back to town empty. I don't think Uber really accounts for that. One thing that can help with a decision in this situation is to look at the number of rides the driver has given or the length of time he has been with Uber. That info is available in the app at least in the US. Another alternative would be to leave the ride on the app but promise a tip of 50 or 100 pesos.
OMG. Saludos de chicago. OMG. The guy with the carnitas Carmelo dishing the meat with his hands is the same guy when I was there 2 yr ago. Looking forward to being there in October
Totally agree with what the Uber driver did. These corporations don't care for their workers and pay them so less. Glad the driver stood up for himself and that you guys accepted his offer.
@@EatBailaTravel Yeah I think it is safe to do this because Uber does background checks before they are hired. The mainstream media is corrupt and lies so I'm glad these videos are showing that Michoacan is chill 😊
Carnitas Carmelo's are so good. He took us to his house where he makes them right around the corner from the plaza. They definitely were the first and originals.
Wow! You two are by far the best representative "youtubers" from the US and particularly from Chitown. You're carnitas segment takes me way back to when we used to buy carnitas and barbacoa at "la espiga de oro" en la villita when it was just a little corner panaderia in the early 70's, taking home just baked bollios to stuff with fresh carnitas was...mmmmmm oh so delish. Keep up the great work and all the best to such an outstanding couple, Tio Rafa 🌮🍻
7:07 I used to do that a lot but kinda stopped after a dentist told me if I keep doing it my teeth would decay and wholes would appear in my teeth, I still do it time to time just not as much. great snack when I was a kid, I remember one girl told me she put salt on it. I used to snack on avocados too.
The State Dept Warnng should include all of the big U.S. cities and at least half of our states. I've been to Mexico over 100 times without any problem. If you don't do drugs here or in Mexico, you are not likely to run into trouble.
I believe there is frequent local bus service from Morelia. You won’t find these buses advertised online. When I went to Pátzcuaro I asked my taxi driver and he dropped me off at a major bus stop on the side of the highway on the outskirts of Morelia. Not the main bus station, which is for the fancy long range buses. I know there are local buses that also go to/from Pátzcuaro, so it might be easier to bus to Pátzcuaro first, then explore around the lake. The local buses aren’t the most comfortable, but they are an experience! Uber in Mexico is always cheaper, more comfortable, and probably safer than taxis. When I was last in Morelia I was told that Uber didn’t operate there. My hosts recommended always using a telephone taxi rather than flagging down a random car.
I LOVE MEXICO 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 and definitely MICHAOACAN IS BEAUTIFUL 👍👍 The Carnitas OMG!!! In Quiroga Delicious 🤤 U Guys needles to go to “ URUAPAN” That is a place you must visit ! And Pátzcuaro. Is a MUST!! Saludos desde ATLANTA. 🌹🦋
We went to Pátzcuaro for Día de Muertos, loved it ❤️ have you tried the carnitas in Uruapan? We went to uruapan for a day but didn’t get a chance to try the carnitas
Damn, those carnitas looked nice and juicy! Looks like Michoacan has some very nice towns :) Man, I may have to go there next! There's a place in Queretaro named Boye that has some bomb barbacoa and pulque if you guys are ever around! Always be careful with taxis or ubers that seem fishy, I rode with a cab drive at the Airport in Mexico City that was not commissioned through the airport services and he charged me like more than double for a ride. This was over 20 years ago, I remember the guy paying a police officer a "cut" for watching his cab.
It's actually typical sometimes in Costa Rica they will contact you to see were your going and tell you they can do it off app. Because Uber takes such a huge percentage. And normal cars just do taxis .....but that's here in CR.....shame there's a bad reputation for that state seems like it has so many great places to offer!😊
totally understand that! it made us a bit nervous at first, especially because of Michoacan's reputation, but it's not fair to the locals trying to make an honest living
Chicago has some of the highest gun violence in the USA. Highland Park had a very bad mass shooting recently. People from Chicago go to michoacan and are scared of violence. 🙄🤔
that's actually one of my pet peeves lol when people from Chicago talk about how much "more" dangerous it is in Michoacan... like um... no lol. In Chicago, you're more likely to be a random victim of a violent crime. In Michoacan, the randomness is much much less likely.
I tried The Michoacán style (Michigan).in cuauhtémoc CDMX and it was pretty late in the day and I was under the weather but I'm guessing they're not as good as the ones you feature here
But, why that video title?
maybe you didn't get to the part where we talked about this in the video... but we ordered an Uber from Morelia to Quiroga and the driver asked us to go off the grid and we agreed to ride with him off the app and pay him in cash. But what if that had gone wrong? To get in a stranger's car without tracking would be a risk in many places I think
Ah actually we have! The birria tacos from Aguascalientes. And the birria tacos from Chicago - this one is in our first vlog ever from 2 years ago and Netflix just recently featured the same restaurant in their latest season 😁
actually its very common in Mexico for uber and diddy drivers to ask you to pay them in cash or they wont take you. it happened to us in cabo san lucas. we just came back from morelia and one of the drivers told us that he would only take us to Patzcuaro if we paid cash.
We’ve paid drivers in cash before but would usually think twice about it in states where kidnapping is more frequent.. if we’d done our homework with time we’d probably have felt more at ease about it but it all happened so quickly!
I had never seen the translation of the saying they say at the end...until today. It says Take a Shower?! 🤣 All this time I thought they were saying something like, Follow your dreams, Or, Travel the world. NEVER did I dream that they were saying Take a shower! 😂 But, I guess it makes sense, though.
Accepting a stranger’s offer for an off-the-grid ride with no tracking in a state known for its high crime and kidnapping… it all turned out fine thankfully but it was a risk we probably shouldn’t have taken
@@Nottyboy50I agree and not only that, Michoacan is one the 5 states that was on “Do Not Travel” list. It’s so sad so that’s why I go to the tourist areas like Puerta Vallarta and Merida.
Uber? Haha, same story here. From Puebla to CDMX airport, Uber offers M$1600. Two drivers declined and the third wanted to negotiate out of app. We ended up with calling a taxi for 2400.
First, those carnitas, want them so bad lol. As for the off records uber ride, this is becoming quite common. Uber and Lyft are just becoming so bad with their drivers cutting lower and lower. Then they don’t give raises for gas prices. However I feel like you it’s still scary as their is no tracking going on. Best thing is to trust instinct. Glad you guys were safe ❤
With the Uber ride I would have offered cash in addition to the fare from the App, not instead of. Then you get the tracking/security measures and the driver gets more fair compensation.
First let me say good job on your videos. I am a big fan. Also taking an Uber off app is not a good idea for many reasons especially for your safety. If you felt that the driver isn’t getting paid enough you always have the option of tipping in cash. Yes it would cost you a bit more but by staying on app you are much safer. Tips are always welcomed and definitely appreciated. Stay safe!
Thanks for sharing this tip we should have just tipped extra and made sure we to make safety our priority. Definitely won't do it again and we'll make sure to be more careful next time.
Hahah did I? 🤭 I can’t remember if we vlogged it or not but I did buy one this summer and then accidentally left it behind at a family members house in San Antonio 😅

Keep up the good work...............
glad you enjoy our videos! 😊❤️🤗
Beautiful, beautiful video guys - Gracias 🙏
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it 😊
Holy Moly that place looks like a blast.
Looks awesome 😎
Looks absolutely amazing 😍
It was SO MUCH FUN!! 😊
I don't have enough words, this was sooooo good!
I am so happy you enjoyed this video, we don't have the words to express how honored we feel to have been part of this beautiful celebration.
We are definitely checking out this town next time we are in Morelia. I absolutely love carnitas. Great video!
Yes you definitely should! thanks guys
Yes yes and yes! Michoacán has so much to offer ❤️
I've done the same thing with drivers all over the world. Yeah, not the smartest thing, but generally you make a friend and get a phone number and can use that same driver off app. I've got this Canadian that lives in Hong Kong that we still chat on occasion. Every time I go there he picks me up from the airport for about half what Uber would charge
I also finally broke down and did a patron for y'all. Have a merry Christmas.
thankfully, it was a very nice drive with a very nice man! 😀 and thank you, Doug!! It's a great time to join us on Patreon as we'll be revamping it very soon 😊
Great video! Now I want to go there and get some carnitas…. They look sooooo goood!!!
So good! I hope you do go!
Awesome! Michoacan really does have the best carnitas and especially in Quiroga. We had some in July at Carmelo's sooo delicious... My parents are from Uruapan and we like to eat them with Chile en vinagre, aguacate, and lemon and salsa. Mmmm
Yuummm, so good!
Thx for doing a video on Quiroga...do you have 1 on Uruapan?
And thank you! Love my hat too 😊
This video had me salivating the whole time 🤤 lol.
It’s good to know where to find carnitas in LA in case we get cravings 😁😅
Excelente vídeo!! 👏🏼
Gracias! 🙏
My grandfather was from Pureparo, Michoacan and my mom was from Ecuandureo, Michoacan. Proudly living in Southern California
you are what we like to call proudly "de aquí y de allá"! own your heritage ❤️🤗🇺🇸🇲🇽
They are such a cute couple. I love Michoacan. Thank you for introducing me to a new city.
Thank you! Michoacán is a wonderful state!
Thank you, so much for your videos. What area do you prefer, Pátzcuaro or el centro de Morelia. Im planning a trip to Michoacán 😁
We loved loved loved Morelia, and Patzcuaro was lovely but very small, so there’s more to do in Morelia, but it is quieter in Patzcuaro… although we were only there during Día de Muertos so I’m just assuming it’s quiet outside of those dates
@@EatBailaTravel thank you, I was thinking 4 nights in Pátzcuaro & 4 nights in Centro de Morelia. Can you please advice?
I went to Los Reyes in Michoacán in December 2019 and celebrated new years there
Where is los reyes located?
@@EatBailaTravel It kinda close to Morelia and the western part of Michoacán
Omg! Kevin really did a great job talking over that loud bell 🤣🏆 You go Kevin! Love this video just like I love the rest of your videos!
we were soo worried that the audio was going to be awful but we also just recently invested in some new professional microphones and they came through!! 🙌🏽😮💨 thank you!!
@@EatBailaTravel
Woo-hoo!! Love it! ❤️ And you're welcome!
I didn’t even think to look into that information, we were in such a hurry 🙈lol but good ideas!
OMG. Saludos de chicago. OMG. The guy with the carnitas Carmelo dishing the meat with his hands is the same guy when I was there 2 yr ago. Looking forward to being there in October
Holaaa!!! Nice! I'm sure he'll still be there in October lol
Totally agree with what the Uber driver did. These corporations don't care for their workers and pay them so less. Glad the driver stood up for himself and that you guys accepted his offer.
That is very true! We are glad we were made safe there and back.
@@EatBailaTravel Yeah I think it is safe to do this because Uber does background checks before they are hired. The mainstream media is corrupt and lies so I'm glad these videos are showing that Michoacan is chill 😊
@@yz2538 😊
wow made me drool 😅😅😅 this was great video editing so good i loved the netflix show i recommended for any one to watch
So good! And thank you glad you enjoyed it 😁 the series also just came out with a new season! Have you seen it?
Did Kevin say her hat looked "shady"?! Lol! Just like a husband! My dude! I probably would have said the exact same thing! 😂😅😆
😂😂😂
Carnitas Carmelo's are so good. He took us to his house where he makes them right around the corner from the plaza. They definitely were the first and originals.
Generations of perfecting that craft 🤤 love that you went to the original location!
I'm heading down the end of March for hopefully 180 day and your video's r helping me plan my tip. Cheers..
Awesome! Glad we could help 😁
Aw thank you! wow, what a sweet memory.. I used to live just a few blocks from La Espiga de Oro on 25th and Christiana.. gracias tío Rafa ;)
We did that trip and the best way is to share a taxi with other people. It's very common to do that
sounds safer, too.. good tip!
Yessss mi quiroga hermoso❤
🤗
😂 Kevin has jokes on this one! Michoacán is by far my favorite state in Mexico. The biodiversity in the state is impressive!!
Kevin always has jokes! We were lucky to catch them on camera on this day haha 😆 we love Michoacán too 😊❤️
I believe there is frequent local bus service from Morelia.
These are great tips!!
I LOVE MEXICO 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 and definitely
MICHAOACAN
IS BEAUTIFUL 👍👍
The Carnitas OMG!!! In Quiroga Delicious 🤤
U Guys needles to go to
“ URUAPAN”
That is a place you must visit !
Girl! You don't know who to thank??? Are you sure you are Mexican??? You ALWAYS thank Nuestra Virgen de Guadalupe!
I have a complicated relationship with Catholicism 😅
Damn, those carnitas looked nice and juicy! Looks like Michoacan has some very nice towns :) Man, I may have to go there next! There's a place in Queretaro named Boye that has some bomb barbacoa and pulque if you guys are ever around! Always be careful with taxis or ubers that seem fishy, I rode with a cab drive at the Airport in Mexico City that was not commissioned through the airport services and he charged me like more than double for a ride. This was over 20 years ago, I remember the guy paying a police officer a "cut" for watching his cab.
Dang! Yea there are fishy people everywhere and we let our guard down but thankfully nothing bad happened 😅 and mmmm barbacoa!!
- Jenny
What episode was it? Was it the chicago espisode?
Are you asking about the Netflix taco chronicles series?
Yes.
Oh! No these were featured in the Carnitas episode. Season 1 I believe
Wonderful video!
Thank you very much!
I want some carnitas rn 😭
Delishicious 😋
The best we’ve ever had 😋
Baila Fam! Let's see if we can get this channel to 17K followers by the end of the year!!!!!
🥳🥳
Thoroughly enjoyed your adventure! Im so tempted , but being elderly im cautious.
Do you live in Mexico? Because if you do the safety could be relateable.
I tried The Michoacán style (Michigan).in cuauhtémoc CDMX and it was pretty late in the day and I was under the weather but I'm guessing they're not as good as the ones you feature here
👍🏼
👍🏻
Thanks for the thumbs ups, guys! 🤗
You guys should consider checking out some of the other people featured in the Taco Chronicles series.
Ah actually we have! The birria tacos from Aguascalientes. And the birria tacos from Chicago - this one is in our first vlog ever from 2 years ago and Netflix just recently featured the same restaurant in their latest season 😁
But definitely want to keep checking out more!
Orgullo Michoacano
actually its very common in Mexico for uber and diddy drivers to ask you to pay them in cash or they wont take you.
it happened to us in cabo san lucas.
we just came back from morelia and one of the drivers told us that he would only take us to Patzcuaro if we paid cash.
😂
😂😂 gotta remind people sometimes!
@@EatBailaTravel Sometimes you do! 😆🤣😂 SO true!!!
I’m so confused what actually happened? It seems you guys got to your destination safely at a fair price.. what is the concern?
Kidnappings are a concern in certain parts of Mexico. People are advised to use authorized means of transport.
Carnita's Don Carmelo is the original
They were delicious! Impressive how the recipe has been passed down for generations
Uber? Haha, same story here. From Puebla to CDMX airport, Uber offers M$1600. Two drivers declined and the third wanted to negotiate out of app. We ended up with calling a taxi for 2400.
yikes lol yea taxis are often more expensive but I understand wanting to be on the safe side! something we probably should have done
De idaho!!!
Hey Idaho!
Yea honestly I really felt for the guy because I know how unfair those corporations are! Thankfully our gut hasn’t led us astray just yet!
Great work describing the real deal, nothing carnitas from Quiroga Michoacán.
the best carnitas!
Wait, didn't Jenny buy a hat in another video a while ago? Am I getting that wrong?
Hahah did I? 🤭 I can’t remember if we vlogged it or not but I did buy one this summer and then accidentally left it behind at a family members house in San Antonio 😅
