Hi Carmine, love your reviews. You’ve inspired me to get off my butt and get busy taking pictures again. Thanks for sharing your experiences and great photos!
I bought one along with a D700 when i was shooting weddings, two fashion shows and NYC street photography. They have been my favorites until now in spite of a D800 and a more recent Z7. When i got into model portfolios they were still my best. The D3 has a vocal recording feature I often used. The D700 uses the same sensor but the viewfinder is only a 95% view. And only one card slot. I retired when everyone else was wearing masks and at 83 years old, for some odd reason, the D3 seems to be gaining weight.
I Love the Nikon D3! Produces incredible images with the 3D look backed with the beautiful proprietary Nikon colors. My D3 and D700 produce similar results. The D3 is still my go to for low light event photography backed by the Nikon D610, D7200, and D700.
Thank you. It took a long while of trial and error to arrive at these cameras as best for the types of photography I do. If I where to upgrade any one of them; Nikon D4, D750, and maybe D810. I was a Newspaper photographer for several papers in Michigan, Virginia, and Rhode Island.
I have a D5 and a D3 ... Love them both. The D3 is still a beast. Got mine from Japan for $500. Not a scratch on it with a shutter count of only 6000. I love your videos and your channel. Practical, down to earth reviews and recommendations. Keep up the good work!
I own the D2X since it came out. Still today it works like a charm . Really reliable camera , for weddings, portraits, landscape . Really happy with it. !
The D3 was not affordable for me at the time, but I'm still very happy with my still flawless D700, indeed the cheaper cousin and missing a few functions, but all in all very much comparable. I also have the battery grip for it, that also fits the D300 (in the times Nikon still was thinking about the customers), and with the grip it almost feels like a D3.
I paid $200 for a random box of camera gear from a thrift store. There were 30 rolls of expired 120 film, a Minolta srt 101, a Minolta 300SJ, a Nikon d55, three Nikon n2000s, a random 35 mm film camera from the USSR with a telephoto lens, 40 assorted Nikon AF lenses, a Nikon D3 and another full body camera similar to the D3. Not to mention it also had all of the chargers and about 20 batteries for D3 and as many lens filters as you could possibly want.
That is still one great camera. I wore out one doing wedding work, had over 350000 clicks on it. I bought another to replace it. It takes great photos. You're right about the battery. It will last all day and if you throw some lithium batteries in the flash you're good to go all day and night.
I added you to my D3S playlist. Also will put you in my D3S review as a mention with reference photo videos. Trying to live up to my name Friend For The Artists
Enjoy the color rendering from these early sensors. I picked up a 'low mileage' Canon 5D that has similar rendering. Will have to check out the Nikon cameras from this same era. New subscriber here.
I like your video and sharing of experience. I am not a Nikon user myself, as I have been shooting Canon all my adult life. I had the EOS 1n High speed, the EOS 3 High Speed, and then went digital with an EOS 1D, which I just sold 2 weeks ago. I have been using my trusty EOS 1D Mark II since years. The only problem with these are the Iso, which is not very good to say the least. Therefore, I bought a Canon EOS 1DX Mark II, which is the second newest body Canon made. I won't go for the Mark III, as it's hugely expensive and near the very same camera. I finally then had better batteries, with Li-Ion and I can shoot pics all day on one battery and the iso is fantastic. All functions are the same and I just really like this camera. They are dropping in price heavily now, so time to get one for little money. And despite the Mark III model and all the new mirrorless cameras, it's plenty good. In fact a super good camera. I don't need to shift glass, don't need the newest. It's also important to go use all that gear instead of just buying new for the sake of new, all the time. Yes, there are a lot of small incremental improvements, but that doesn't really take away anything from a good camera of yesteryear. I also use my old 1964 Leicaflex, generation 1. Great pictures. Thank you for sharing. Kind regards.
Hello, your Canon EOS 1DX Mark II, is a fantastic camera, with it's 20.2MP CMOS full-frame sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus . I had the pleasure of using one while working in Rome last year..I just might buy one for myself :)
Late happy new year :-). I have just recently bought a D3 with 158k on the shutter. I expect never to be able to wear it down. The handling of the camera when shooting is the best I have experienced. All this for ~ 400$.
Great Video Carmine, have the D3s and love its Image quality, build quality, durability and simplicity of use with plenty of user customizations if you chose, Ted.
The Nikon D3 is still my go to pro camera for Paid jobs...500 is very good... www.mpb.com/en-us/product/nikon-d3/sku-2586466?+feed&+google+shopping+clicks&US%7CGoogle%7CBuy%7CPmax%7CSmartUpgrade%7CAll%7CAll%7CEN&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4MSzBhC8ARIsAPFOuyXBZkGzaf23lruKRddYe3hXBWUdHL4uBfArM2EpRkhhYu4RGRKQS-AaAh3xEALw_wcB
When I recently re-entered photography I bought the Nikon D700 along with a couple newer (24MP) cameras. I think I've read that the D700 is kind of like a "baby brother" of the D3. I've been very happy with my purchases. I need to get a new battery for my D1X that I purchased new YEARS ago to see if it still works. :)
Those are some really nice pictures, I've been looking at cameras like that, that might be the one, I've seen the Japanese sellers they have some nice cameras, I normally shoot a lot of film, black and white I can't afford new digital cameras. I've been wondering if 12-megapixel was enough but I guess it is, I wouldn't blow anything up bigger than 8 by 10, and that would be kind of rare. I appreciate your video and information, since you're using a 12-megapixel I guess it's plenty.
Thanks for watching my channel..I can tell you something about the D3, some of my Photographs that I sold have been enlarged to 36x24 inches, hung framed in art galleries and sold out. The Nikon D3 is one of a kind. I highly recommend that camera. 👌
Not to hijack Carmine's comments but I shot with the Nikon D1X and D100 back in the early 2000s which were 5.74 and 6.1 megapixel cameras and I printed up to 24x30 for my wedding and portrait clients and they looked great. 12 megapixel could easily go that size. :)
@@CarmineTavernaPhotography thank you so much I have the D700 and so far I am loving the colors and the richness just in the raw files themselves. I might get the D3 or D3s later on.
The D3 was a groundbreaking camera and I’m still working with a couple today. They are tough, reliable and ergonomically perfect.
Well said...perfect 👍

I am a dog and people portrait photographer in the UK, its 2024 and i still use my D3 as my main camera, it does everything i need it to.
I have always wanted a Nikon D3. So, I just bought a D3 in February 2023. It is an amazing camera with some fantastic controls. I love the camera.
Good choice!

I bought a D3 as a backup for my D800. Now my D800 is the backup for my D3.

Carmine, thank you for sharing your years of experience. Love my D3’s….all 3 of em….I much prefer shooting my DSLR’s over my mirrorless….

I think if all that gear is in working condition, you just bought a box of gear valued at approx $1,900. at least, add another $150 for the film... :)
I have a D3s and D700 and love the results I get from them.

How does the D3s compare to the D3 in the way it handles colors and its image sensor is it the same as D3 and D700?

Wow..that is a great Camera...enjoy :)
Due to the world wide shortage, I was only able to get mine in 2008 and have been using it until last year, when I got my Z9.
Wow. You truly loved your D3...and z9 😆
Quick question. Nikon D750 and Nikon D3 have about the same low light performance? I am thinking about getting a D3 to back up my 750.

@@RobertFGardner The D3 is just the big brother of the D700. Will you be satisfied with a D700? Otherwise, a D4 can be considered.

That Nikon still appears to be a great camera. 12mp still pretty decent to print a photo.👍👍
Totally agree
In terms of the colors and sensor is the D3s the same as the D3 and D700?
In my professional opinion, they are all close. All 3 of the cameras you mentioned are absolutely on my shelf for weekly use.

My friend my d3s, auto focus has slow down a bit. Its not as snapy as it use to be. What can I do to to get it fixed. I love my camera. Thank you
The cost of having your Nikon cleaned, lubricated and adjusted would be more than you buying a good used Nikon D3s.
