Can we catch Windermere's LEGENDARY Fish? (It's not what you think...)

- Fishing for the rumoured fish that lurks somewhere in the depths of England's biggest lake. Is it possible? You're probably thinking i'm talking about a big pike, but no. Far from it! I'm way out of my comfort zone with this kind of fishing, but I couldn't be more excited to give it a go and see if we can defy the odds and get a fish on the bank. I'm sorry this video is just a short one, every now and again I decide to focus more on the fishing than the filming side of things but i'm pleased with how it turned out considering!
If you did enjoy this video, please don't forget to drop a like, and subscribe if you want to see more of the fishing videos I make. Drop a comment too and let me know what you think!
As always, thanks for taking the time to watch and hopefully i'll see you here for the next one!
The rod I was using for my feeder fishing can be found on the following link, and you can get 10% off both rod and reel using discount code AFUK10. riggedandready...
I know this is quite a short video but I hope you all enjoy it. Every now and again I go out and focus more on the fishing than the filming side of things so this was a little thrown together. This is my first time fishing this method too, so if you have any advice on how I can improve or tips to try I'd love to hear from you below!
The duck you saw was a Mandarin duck. Windermere is England’s largest lake at 10.5 miles long, 1 mile wide and up to 220 foot deep. I enjoyed the video too 😃
Great knowledge mate and thanks for watching!
Great video - I'd like to see more Lake Windermere fishing 👏🏻😊
Thank you, I’ll have to make sure more is planned!
Love fishing Windermere by kayak and Alex is the guy to help with that.
Yeah i bet that's great fun!
First time commenting. My 8 year old loves your videos. We've watched every one of your videos (multiple times). I took her fishing for the first time last week in lake windamere and she caught a Bream, as her first ever fish. She did the whole lot herself. We used the rigged and ready x5 with maggots. We also met some of the rigged and ready staff on a pier and mentioned you. She'd like to know what's the biggest fish you've caught in Lake Windermere? Thanks.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! Really happy to hear you've been enjoying the videos and happy she caught a bream! I've not actually caught a very big fish from windermere yet, probably a pike of about 5 pounds. Something I need to work on this year!
Yup, Mandarin duck! Brought over here for their ornamental look, I believe. Just had a week in Borrowdale and saw one there as well. I was like you, what are they!? Pretty though 👍
Really cool aren't they! Thanks for the ID
Very cool catching windermere bream nice one!
Thanks mate, I’m told there’s plenty of them in there these days 👍
Great video again mate love tuning In
Thanks for watching mate!
Well done.👏A beautiful spot.🏞️
A nice bream, and I'm sure you'll be back and catch your carp.🤞
Thank you for sharing, take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Could take a lifetime to catch a carp in there! Thanks for watching 👍
Nice one pal,I enjoyed that, loving the drone footage, congratulations for catching your first Bream,a decent one too, slimy things them 😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks mate! I was actually quite surprised about the bream, it was nowhere near as slimy as I expected it to be. Hardly at all! Maybe something to do with its environment
Huuum Windermere carp..now there's a thought....Get pre baiting to pull in whatever fish get em localised ....nice wild Bream..
Thanks for watching! They must exist in there somewhere
That's what I was thinking pre bait a few spots on a warm westerly to start with
Now then buddy and hope all is good in the hood & another Cracking video George and a different kind of video too and I bet there’s all sorts of fish in there. It’s just so big so cold be anywhere !!!!!! Lovely bream and well done and then mandarin’s are to me probably the most beautiful coloured ducks you will ever see …… we are spoilt aren’t we 😁👍😁👍🎣🎣🎣
Hi John thanks for watching! Yeah there’s definitely some surprising fish hiding away in the depths somewhere. And I agree, a fantastic bird to see out in the wild!
Great video!! There is a lake where I live in Ireland called lough cutra. Apparently when the pond of a nearby stately home was drained the big carp from the pond were released into the lake. I would love to know if the rumour is true but it would be like finding a needle in a haystack.🎣🎣
Thanks mate! Yeah very unlikely of ever coming across one but there’s always a chance 👍
The first species that comes to mind when I think of legendary Windermere fish that aren't pike are the ferox trout and arctic char, so it was a bit of a surprise when you said "carp" lol
I see what you mean mate but there’s plenty of Arctic char and ferox trout in there! People have caught them countless times over the years 👍 as far as catching a carp goes I can’t think of any times it’s happened!
The fish is very beautiful👍 wish you a lot of health and happiness ❤❤
Thanks, you too 👍
I've always thought there were some decent coarse fishing to be had in the lakes. Windermere, bassenthwaite derwent water and I even saw people fishing on crummock water as a kid. Never thought about carp being in them tbh. Bet there's some right shoals of bream and roach though. Sure if keep at it you'll get into them..
I bet there’s some great coarse fishing to be had yeah, it’s just knowing where to look isn’t it!
Congrats on first and PB bream, need to try for bigger one now
Thanks mate, I’m sure one day I will!
Always satisfying to catch something on Windermere because, like you say, it is a massive lake. There are definitely some surprises in there though! There could be a giant catfish in there! Nice video, shame about the Fosters though 😂
Very true and yeah a big catfish definitely wouldn’t surprise me! Thanks for watching 👍
Atleast it’s not a bud light🤣
Another brilliant session well done with the bream
Thanks mate!
Great little video George well done 💪💪
Thanks mate!
There are carp roach bream and dace in Windermere now introduced by idiots over the last 20 years. I live on Ullswater and the fishing on all the lakes since I was a kid has gone down hill massively 😢
I’d have thought roach and bream have always been in there? Not sure about dace though. Yeah I’ve heard stories of how good it used to be, it’s a shame but it’s still a fantastic place to be out fishing 👍
People are not suddenly putting coarse fish in Windermere, live baiting was banned over 20 years ago. Windermere is surrounded by coarse fisheries, Esthwaite is regarded as one of the best in the country. Many of them are connected to Windermere by streams, and coarse fish fry have undoubtedly washed into Windermere for many decades. In the past they never thrived. They couldn't compete with low nutrient species like trout, char, perch and pike. I think the recent surge in coarse fish numbers is down to water quality. Look at Google Maps satellite view. Windermere is now green! Similar Scottish lochs look black. The reason is simple. Those lochs don't have sewage from tens of thousands of Lake District residents and visitors flushing into them, raising nutrient levels to the levels coarse fish thrive in. The Rivers Trust map of raw sewage overflows is not encouraging! Char probably don't want treated sewage, never mind raw!!
its Magic fishing on Windermere nothing like it , great stuff
An amazing place isn’t it!
Awesome buddy. What a place to be. The Ducks are mandarin ducks 😉
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video buddy! Keep it going 🤙
Thanks mate, happy you enjoyed the video!
Nice place nice bream mate well done 😊
Thanks mate!
There’s always mandarin ducks in my small local river, I didn’t even realise they were close to endangered for a while because I saw them all the time. Apparently only 65,000 left in the world.
It’s cool you have some near you, they’re a fantastic looking bird! Thanks for watching the video 👍
That’s cool you casted near my boat
Which one?
They were Mandarin Ducks. They're an interesting species. The species is a native of China and Japan but they are seriously threatened in their native territory. They escaped from exotic wild fowl collections in this country and established themselves in the wild. Increasing in numbers all the time, it is thought that there are about 12 or 13 thousand of them in the UK. That means that the UK population is many times greater than that in their native China where there are probably only about a thousand left. Japan has a more robust population but even there there are only about 5,000. The total population globally is around 65,000 of which most are non-native introduced populations and a substantial proportion of that total are UK birds.
Wow thanks for that, a very in depth explanation. Absolutely fascinating!
Epic video bruv. What’s that net your using. Seen it in a couple of vids
Thanks mate! Not 100% sure I think it’s a fladen folding one
That Bream was bigger than one I’ve just paid £24 for in a restaurant
Haha, I believe the saltwater more expensive version tastes a lot better!
Think there is any wells cats in there
Personally I don't think so, but it's very possible!
Nice catch 👌 we will be testing this lake trough this summer . Do we need a permit? Can we do night fishing ? Thanks
Thanks mate! I think you can might fish yes, and you don’t need a permit other than a standard license
Nothing wrong with enjoying the fishing more than filming now and again. Your friends need to be careful watching you film worms though they might lose a rod in the future to a fish 😂.
Yeah it’s nice to just focus on the task at hand sometimes! They do, Andy was gutted about that lost fish!
Just asking though…? Has anyone ever caught a Windermere carp??? My guess has always been mistaken identity (Bream indeed).
Bassenthwaite? People claim there’s Tench? I have never seen any! I used to catch Ruffe there though.
Wood ducks here look a lot like those.
I’ve never heard of a wood duck, I’ll have to look it up!
Any update on the apparent toxic substances found at Windermere?
It was lots of algae likely caused by a number of factors especially sewage
MP Tim Farron is raising awareness about the utility companies needing to properly treat sewage rather than just dump it…(which is astonishingly legal!)
Birds are called Mandarin ducks.
Thanks for the ID!
Hi George, was it Lake Windermere you fished earlier this year with all the raw sewage running into the water ?
It was unfortunately yes!
Supposedly carp were released in Derwent and Windermere don't know if that's true mind.
I imagine it probably is, they’re probably in there somewhere!
Is the fishing free on Windemere?
It is mate yes 👍
@@adventurefishinguk Thanks for the information.
No powen or whitefish in there anymore?
I’m not quite sure what they are. I think there’s schelley and maybe vendance in there somewhere, but I could be wrong!
I love these videos but I do feel like you should tell us your relation with the rigged and ready company. Are you the owner or being paid by the company to review these products? I think youre legally obligated to tell us but i'm not sure about that.
Sure, transparency is very important to me. I actually work for the company now as a part time marketing manager, but I don't get paid to make videos using the rods/promote them. I use them none exclusively in some of my videos because I genuinely love the compact and multi-purpose nature of the rods. As time goes on you'll see me using other gear too. In case you weren't aware, whenever a video includes advertising it will include a disclaimer at the start of the video saying 'includes paid promotion'. I hope this answers your question!
@@adventurefishinguk thanks for the response!
If you don't do a series where you just go round catching legendary fish I'll be well sad.
I’d love to do that mate! I need some more suggestions on ideas really 👍
Mandarin ducks.
Thanks for the ID 👍
Mandarin duck.
Thanks for that, really enjoyed seeing it!
Totally polluted allegedly
I wouldn't go that far but it definitely has its issues!
