Roman.... It's not free money. You know that. It's being put on the back of future generations. The crux of the matter is that it takes to damn long to charge it... I do not want to sit in Rockford Illinois and wait to be robbed while charging. If you can flex and have multiple cars for multiple purposes then fine. But a lot of people don't have that cash.
@30:16 “… you don’t take advantage of the free money that’s being given to you.” A question I want to put out there, and my answer… Is there such a thing as “free money”? I say NO, there’s no such thing as free money.
Hahah, true. He is all over the place and thinks people hate EVs because of politica but its because they are being shoved down our throats. Everything is moving to EV and people have no say in it apparently or at least, so far
One thing I hear you guys talk about is “routine maintenance”. While you and the rest of your team know the new car auto industry very well, you need to remember that manufacture recommended “routine maintenance” is the enough for any vehicles. The OEs draw up a maintenance schedule that reflects low cost, not actual required maintenance, EVs included. Many actually have coolant and filters that need to be regularly changed, at least twice as soon as the OE recommend. Same goes for ICE. 10000 miles between oil changes only causes premature failures. I see so many vehicles with failed engines because they don’t change their oil enough. I’d recommend you guys do a video conveying that info as a lot of people value your opinion when buying vehicles.
The EV market is facing some tough challenges right now. Massive depreciation, high insurance rates, and acquisition cost of ownership all add up, making EVs less attractive to buyers. The only way they seem to be staying afloat is through leasing. Not political, it is basic economics.
Right but people actively fight them just because they don’t want “The Man” telling them what to do even though it might actually make a lot of sense. I look around my neighborhood and see driveways full of ICE cars. I know that some of the ICE cars could be replaced with an EV. Not everyone is driving their 3, 4, or 5 ICE cars 250+ miles every single day. Buy a Chevy bolt or Nissan leaf or whatever for cheap and use it for your daily beater
@@Jay-me7gw The key thing is that it is just better for day to day driving for most trips and most normal uses cases (going to get groceries, commuting to the office, school drops and pickups)... The average American home has almost 3 cars now (2.65 technically but let's round up)... basically, we can all have EVs for the local stuff and the hybrid or ICE for the long trips...or just rent those when you need for those 1-3 times a year and even do your medium range trips with an EV...
I own a hybrid and really enjoy the experience. But regarding full electric cars, the American people did not politicize them, the American government did!! A large majority of Americans don’t want to be forced to do anything let alone the car they drive. Let the market determine the electric car’s future. This coming from someone who enjoys the technology advances of electric cars.
No one is forcing EVs? You say that with straight face? This is unbelievable. How about the government mandates on federal AND state level. Car companies are mandated through emission and mpg requirements for acceptable levels that are stricter and stricter every 5 or so years. They can’t comply with those unless they sell larger and larger percentage of their vehicles as full EVs. By 2030 about 2/3 of every manufacturer’s vehicles must be full EVs by current active regulations or they face bankrupting penalties.
@@is6566We are the generation that needs to at least try to help our environment. ICE has been around over 100 years. They’re inefficient and dirty. EV isn’t going to work for everyone especially as slow as the US is to adopt charging infrastructure and all the political BS. China is killing the US in EV’s which is insane as they’re one of the worlds most polluters. Norway is something like 96% EV sales now. We’re just late to the party as usual. I’m sure when we went from horses to cars people had the same dumb thoughts.
@Ex… Norway is very special case. My understanding is that the reason why they have that high of electric car acceptance is that because of EV credits in tax exemptions purchasing an EV was 50% or more cheaper than buying ICE. I even heard you could get EV for half the price of equivalent ICE car. They also started this transition 30 years ago seemingly not a few years ago. I found this list of EV incentives in Norway. The Norwegian EV incentives: No purchase/import tax on EVs (1990-2022). From 2023 some purchase tax based on the cars’ weight on all new EVs. Exemption from 25% VAT on purchase (2001-2022). From 2023, Norway will implement a 25% VAT on the purchase price from 500 000 Norwegian Kroner and over No annual road tax (1996-2021). Reduced tax from 2021. Full tax from 2022. No charges on toll roads (1997- 2017). No charges on ferries (2009- 2017). Maximum 50% of the total amount on ferry fares for electric vehicles (2018) Maximum 50% of the total amount on toll roads (2018-2022). From 2023 70% Free municipal parking (1999- 2017) Access to bus lanes (2005-). New rules allow local authorities to limit the access to only include EVs that carry one or more passengers (2016-) 25% reduced company car tax (2000-2008). 50% reduced company car tax (2009-2017). Company car tax reduction reduced to 40% (2018-2021) and 20 percent from 2022. Exemption from 25% VAT on leasing (2015-) The Norwegian Parliament decided on a national goal that all new cars sold by 2025 should be zero-emission (electric or hydrogen) (2017). Charging right» for people living in apartment buildings was established (2017-) Public procurement: From 2022 cars needs to be ZEV. From 2025 the same applies to city buses
The EV isn't dead. The EV mandate is dead. Forcing people to buy things they don't want is pure evil. Forcing people to live by YOUR religious/moral code is simply unconscionable.
Sure, but there is a difference between religious belief and scientific analysis. EV’s are the future for personal transportation. If Americans don’t buy into it now, we’ll just be that much farther behind countries that do.
@@donschiffer7400Really? EV’s may be the future but until there is a stable power network to support charging, and our building codes change to support this transition there will continue to be opposition. More than 50% of EV owners are going back to gas cars? Charging and reliability is the biggest complaints? This needs to change to make it easier not harder to own and move to EV’s
Yup! If the gubment had just let innovation take its course, there wouldn’t be anywhere near as much resistance against them. An EV in compact or midsize sedan form would make a great commuter for those that commute 50-100 miles round trip everyday. Way less maintenance involved. But then again, an oil change on a Honda civic is like what? 20-30 bucks?
Everyone: Oh no, EVs are "failing". What a shame - rubs hands in glee but doesn't actually look up any figures... Me: Looks up sales data - sales are up in the US by about 9% from last year so far and we arent even thru to end of the year yet, while in Q3 EV sales grew by almost 11% vs the prior year... Meanwhile the entire auto sales market is down 1% for the year vs 2023... Take away: People like to believe their own delusionals even when the numbers and facts are screaming in their faces that its not declining but rather growing substantially faster than the market as a whole
Government never said that. And you don’t seem to know how much the government is involved in all aspects of oil production and distribution of internal combustion vehicles and fuel. But let’s make a deal: take governement out of everything related to cars or fuel/energy production and distribution. Then let’s compare. Fair?
Go watch the Savagegeese video on the ZR1 corvette. Listen to the Corvette head designer talk about the experience and entertainment that a car provides and that they have to deliver. That is something you simply cannot get in an EV.
Tommy, I think the EV you're really looking for is the old Bolt EV/EUV. It is from a pre-software defined era, buttons, CarPlay, and a few basics like heated seats and power windows. Everything else is super simple... no sun roof, no permanent on lane centering, and no power lift gate to break.
Dead? Not dead but more finding its place in the industry / market - the EV tool has a specific use case and consumers are still figuring it out. happy thanksgiving TFL! Really enjoy real world experience! Especially from the OG 🤙🏼
People are scared of EV’s because they are too used to MPG’s. A kW or kWh are foreign to most Americans. You have to be somewhat technically savvy to be able to drive an EV which is the problem.
Just bought a used 2023 Volvo C40 for 50% off MSRP from Hertz. No problems after 4K miles. Not the best EV, but a great car. Perfect for me: I can charge at home & also own a RAV4 hybrid.
@@sidneyrobinson9186 I didn't think I ever would either, but they aren't bad. More importantly, it's available for less than 60k. With incentives, a model 3 and model y are about 50k and 55k, respectively. Just for your info.
It great having enough money to have a diesel for towing, an expensive EV for around town, and an ICE vehicle for road trips. Do you know how that sounds? I am not anti-EV. I really like driving them, but your financial insensitivity to what most Americans face just affording one used ICE vehicle to make their lives work day-to-day is a big piece of what is missing in the conversation.
EVs have their place but let the consumer decide rather than force it down their throats. So far the consumer has spoken loud and clear. If the EV experience could be equal to owning a gas or Diesel vehicle with respect to no change in lifestyle then they would really take off. Resale value is crap, battery replacement costs are impractical, the ever-present recharging and or spontaneous fire risks are always there. Insurance costs are too high. The recharging aspect will continue to be the EV Achilles heel. Truck guys can't get the towing range of a Diesel truck. I think once all these issues are ironed out EVs will be a lot easier to adopt.
Who force an EV down your throat? Just curious? You are free to buy Diesel car..EV hater complain EV is too expensive even after incentives..why people still buying them? Because they are good at things that combustion engines are not..there are down sides, but why hate on them?
Yea all these arguments are trash. The cost to replace an entire engine in ICE is phenomenally high as well. The infrastructure of EVs is getting better and will be far better than gasoline. Once they are more accessible to everyone. The government’s job was trying to build up infrastructure and that’s what they are there to do. If you’ve driven an EV, you would know the driving experience is way better without a transmission, instant acceleration, no dirty emissions, no oil changes, etc..
Ev trucks are certainly poor at long distance towing, but let’s be real, most people are not using their half tons to long distance tow. We buy 1.5 million half ton trucks in the US every year, how many of those EVER see a trailer, never mind pull a trailer long distance. If your are the kind of person that “needs” a truck but doesn’t tow long distance than ev trucks work great
Also we need to expand ev production to make it cheaper for the masses. If you produce 100 a year, then it’s going to cost a lot per car. The government is involved to make it more profitable so that anyone can afford an ev.
@@Hokimon21The government? You know they have mandated NO gas car past 2030 and 2035? So by forcing them on us with the high costs and insurance is a non starter with 80% of the population? Right now there is a 2019 Tesla model 3 long range all wheel drive a 70 dollars car in Canada new now 26,000 dollars with about 25,000 miles on a dealer lot for 3 months now? The car VMR value is 19,000 thousand? 4 years and 70 loss of value? That is my issue
We are tired of accepting alternatives in the marketplace then facing Totalitarianism & then being FORCED into limited poor options of traditional vehicles.
How are you supposed to have more options if they can’t be scaled and made affordable for the masses? The entire infrastructure needs to be built up for EV’s. Elon musk funded Tesla but the dumbass investors of companies like Ford/GM/Ram can’t see beyond their 6 month profits to be willing to let those companies make longer term investments.
I think Roman makes some valid points here and one point from Tommy that fits into the right tool argument is solid state. If the promises of solid state come to fruitition, a 600 mile range EV is much more of a compelling argument than a 300 mile range that you can already get with most ICE cars. For anyone that tows or road trips, an EV is a nice secondary vehicle but not a primary.
As someone that just leased a Chevy Equinox EV, a vehicle I love, EVs are hampered by their price and misinformation. There are people out there who have the wrong idea about them (they catch fire and take hours to charge). The first drive of an EV is a life altering experience. If people would just take one for a drive, they would become fans.
They are not practical for some locations or people. I bought a 2019 LEAF for $7k for commuting to work and around town but it’s not practical for road trips. It serves its purpose for 80% of my driving and keeps the miles down on my ICE car and I can charge on 120v at home
I have been a longtime viewer and really like these guys. It’s clear where Roman stands politically (not surprising given they are in Boulder). He tiptoes around it but I would also prefer that they leave politics out of this stuff. They have a right to their views and speech but the word abortion should never be uttered on a car channel. I am sure they they have strong post election feelings but maybe that’s good fodder for a TFLPolitics channel
Agree w you. Women did not lose their rights. This is a terrible take and then to relate it to autos is poor decision. Sounds like he doesn't mind babies being killed though - he didn't say that outright but his thoughts on women losing their rights is terrible take.
If you have the right to comment on his channel, he has right to his own views and believes..leave his personal view alone and focus on car..you are same as him try to politicize a personal believes..

Exactly my thoughts. I love these guys and their channels including EV content. Roman is within his rights but for a while it’s been apparent he has been hosting with hurt feelings. I just want him to get his venting out in this episode and be done venting, or take a behind the scenes role exclusively.
Biggest thing with EV’s to me is the grid in our country. Much of it is outdated and limited in some areas. Power generation really needs to be talked about and improved to allow mass EV adoption.
I bought a home with a solar system already installed, I have had multiple hybrids in the past. My friends would laugh when I opened my garage. Over the years there would a Prius or other hybrid, a 4x4 truck or Wrangler and a Harley Motorcycle. I am a right tool for the job guy. I would consider an EV to replace my 2018 Tundra but the price, insurance, inconvenience and extreme depreciation have kept me from it. I like the idea of the quickness of them but they just wouldn't fit my requirements. One party in our government interfering with the free market by pushing them has turned me off completely to them.
Here in Texas just north of San Antonio good amount of Teslas but can not remember seeing any other EV brand. Charging has become a big issues also the federal mandates and the billions of dollars given to EV manufacturers ie 6.5 billion given to Rivian which was apparently failing
Cracking podcast both. Very interesting. Though I can’t help but feel you threw your hairdresser under the bus. Not sure if the bus was electric, petrol, or diesel though. 😂
Please stay away from politics and stick with the stuff you're good at, cars and trucks! This episode should have never happened. Shit episode! Still love the channel, but this episode is a big pile of crap.
Oh shut up! Politics do affect car manufacturing and what will come next. This is 100% related to each other. Its not like they are talking about politics on the health sector. They are talking about politics in the auto industry sector 😂
Maybe because this is the biggest issue facing the car industry in the last few years? And the other issues are not even close in consequences. Just a wild guess. SARCASM.
Speaking of, I just did a local shopping trip in Northern California (about 180 miles roundtrip), and I decided to stop by a few of the local chargers. The EA site was filled with a GMC HUMMER SUV, KIA Niro EV, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Chevy Bolt EUV, and within 30 seconds of stopping, a Hyundai Ioniq 6 showed up. At the EVgo, I was joined by a Bolt EV, and at the V3 Supercharger next door was full, including a Rivian R1S and R1T. A Cybertruck showed up as I was leaving. And when I was picking up pet food from Walmart, a Tesla Model 3 parked next to me, I looked up to see a Rivian Amazon delivery van, and I saw a Vinfast VF8 as I was leaving. That's just a typical shopping trip in Northern California.
And states extend abortion until after the birth as well. Don’t give me this crap that some aren’t allowing a baby to die after birth which is essentially abortion past birth.
@@snomass1 right so it matters how much your state is indoctrinated with right wing Christian values wheather or not a woman has access rather than all American women having equal access.
From my personal feelings, beliefs & perspectives, heres my main points on this - and this is from a current hybrid owner (2 vehicles) - 1) take the government out of rhe incentive business for the ev. I got no incentives for thr hybrids i purchased but still like them. Let them stand on their own. 2) do EVs really help the environment? You all are saying they do, other commentary where they don't. I don't believe most media on this so my view is skewed. I still don't mind having EVs or hybrids or ICE ...but from environmental perspective, chill out 3) terrible take on abortion. Just awful roman. It put the issue back to states. Thats where it should be but my feeling is its killing a human life so its murder of a baby. I think roman said one thing i maybe agree with about the performance of the cars and there should be choice. Agree with that but it should be even playing field and the government shouldn't be in this business. Easier to day than for it not to do. This was an interesting episode but i would not have minded not watching it.
3.) Chill..you are here to for his view in car..if you really care so much of lives, stop our gov from shipping weapons to kill 40k lives..this selective live saving logic..just to make oneself feel better for themselves..
Yes, but we have had over 100 years to rollout those gas stations. Also remember in the early gas days, it was delivered as cans of gas. Every house and every business has electricity, fundamentally changing over to charging is not that hard a shift.
@@owenturnbull6424 fundamentally that's incorrect. Fundamentally, our electric infrastructure cannot handle everyone having an EV. California already suffers from rolling blackouts and at times residents are told not to charge their vehicles. Fundamentally, the regulations to build and improve the infrastructure are so over-regulated that it would take well over a hundred years to get half of the grid at the capability to support EVs. Fundamentally, everyone driving an EV in the US and the rest of the world would not reduce the amount of petroleum that is used very much at all since it's in everything. Fundamentally, it takes an EV about 100,000 miles to breakeven with an ICE vehicle in regards to carbon footprint because ICE vehicles have an advantage with a very small carbon footprint than EVs due to the mining for minerals needed to build batteries. Fundamentally, EVs promote child labor to mine the batteries. Fundamentally, your statement is very wrong.
I feel the same when I drive past gas stations in one of our EVs, charged at our home while I slept, and see all the slaves to gas prices wasting their lives pumping gasoline.
For heavens sake. We produce hundreds of non political car and truck videos and reviews each year and ONLY ONE of them was about the politics of electric cars which cannot be separated from EVs.
@@TFLtalk I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comment. The fact that I stumbled upon the only political video shows that I watch your channels a lot :). And I will continue to do so. Anyway... I'm addicted... :)
In terms of the EV tax credit, people are assuming, and many have been fed a line of BS. Not all EVs are eligible for the tax credits, and even for the EVs that were, the credit is dependent on whether the person buying the car had the tax liability required to receive the credit. When I bought my first EV, my income was low enough that I only qualified for a portion of the EV tax credit. As for concrete examples of the oil subsidies, you simply have to point people to what drivers in other countries pay for their gas. In countries without oil subsidies, the cost of gas is often three to four times what Americans pay at the pump. That's not only coming out of the pockets of EV drivers in the form of taxes, it's also coming at the cost of the lives of many of our service men and women who are posted abroad in order to protect the interests of oil companies.
On hatred of EV's I think you're missing the point. Most people I know feel that forcing EV's on people is the issue. Making it a country wide mandate that ICE vehicles will be banned is essentially forcing EV's on us. EV's are great for around town trips but not for long trips due to the recharge times.
also its not $7K, its $7K OFF their taxes so someone like me that gets back $2K every year in tax returns, I would not receive anything for the $7K tax credit since I already pay more than I need to and get back $2K so for people that actually get money back from taxes we would get nothing compared to those that are rich and use those tax breaks.
@Ross… That’s not how it works brother. If you overpaid your taxes by $2k then you would get $9.5k back actually. I know, it happened to my wife when her hybrid was eligible in 2022. She got back what she paid plus the tax credit (her car wasn’t eligible for full $7.5k but something like $6k). Depended on the car. In any case, the EV credit at least then was completely separate thing from any other credit or refund.
There are many, many EVs available for less than the $48k average sales price of a car in the US. And there are income and price caps in place. Your FUD argument is tired and wack.
@@is6566 ok I thought it was a "credit" that went towards reducing your taxes and did not qualify for actual money back from your taxes. Thanks for the clarification
Tommy speaks about simple electric that last forever. Think about Mercedes in the 90s. They had well built cars that lasted too long. So they started making them disposable to sell more cars. Long lasting EVs with low maintenance is a selling and attraction point now. But I'm pretty sure they will start baking in obsolescence once they get a foothold on the market
Man. The entire EV industry is a definition of obsolescence. Savagegeese explained it once. The current crop (other than Teslas and Rivians) are compliance vehicles. They are built by legacy automakers as a compliance for the government push. The technology, range, battery tech is developing and changing constantly so everything you buy today is obsolete the moment it’s made. This is one reason why the used EVs have gigantic decrease in resale value.
I live in the midwest in a town with around 11,000 people. The closest public charging station is 46 miles away and it is on a toll road and then you would have to go 15 miles the wrong direction to get off the toll road and then drive 63 miles home only to turn around to goto work the next and drive 81 miles round trip and and then start all over again.
Roman claims to be a journalist but accepts luxury trips from the companies he covers. Major ethical lapse and red flag. What else is he accepting from these companies….
I love my EVs. But never should they be mandatory. I just drove corner to corner of Washington State for Thanksgiving at a fraction of the cost of my gas vehicles. My favorite thing is the performance. Never have I had vehicles that could perform as fast without high fuel cost.
It’ll be interesting to see if the newly created DOGE starts to go after ALL the subsidy programs of this government,if they don’t this will probably end up in continual arguments
I have no problem with EV's. What I do have a problem with is that the government, who has yet to demonstrate intelligent choices, has mandated them despite the fact that our power grid can not support the mandated numbers. Administrations that put their thumb on the scales for any product or technology based on inconsistant, flawed, or outright false data. Also, the comparison to a medical procedure that is not nor has ever been a "right" is extremely disingenuous and exploiting the political slant you decried moments before... let those who want EV's buy them and leave the rest of us alone.
@ImLivinSD Bev's are significantly less likely to roll over due to the weight and placement of the battery pack. That's a fact. If you're inside the vehicle and a collision happens, having a vehicle that is less likely to roll than another presents a clear benefit. Sorry that your feelings are hurt on this matter.
This video made the public dumb. The Canadian Mexico free trade agreement is due for renewal in 2025. Tariffs is the big stick to get Canada and Mexico talking. If they fail to agree on the trade agreement, the current free tade zone expires in 2026.
Roman, I am opposed to all the government interventions in economics, including corn for ethanol, oil subsidies and EV subsides. The bigger challenge with EV subsides is that it primarily helps the Chinese who make the batteries and own the raw materials. But I agree that EV's are great for some purposes, and they need to cost what they cost.
I’m sorry, but you brought up the abortion issue not me so now I’m going to comment. Abortion rights were not taken away from anyone RoeVWade was an illegitimate decision that the government shouldn’t have made, and all they did was push that back to the states to decide. It’s a more democratic process now because the people of those states can determine whether or not they want abortion in their state.
Aka, this troll is saying the public should get to decide what a woman does with her body, even if it’s a life or death scenario, or grape 🤦♂️ and her decision affects literally nobody else. You speak to your lack of intelligence without trying.
If you were actually concerned about the ultimate choice, to quote you: "it's a more democratic process now because the people of those states can determine whether or not they want abortion in their state." Let's make it even more democratic, let's push it to the county level. No wait, let's push it to the city level. Or even more democratic would be to let individuals decide. Your statement is just cherry picking an argument that supports the emotional decision you've already made.
Your initial assessment was correct, stay out of politics. When I hear someone tell me what something thinks or they believe X…you lose me. Unless you are a mind reader..you don’t know…never know. Keep up the great work… love you guys!
AGAIN, and should be obvious from th comments, you guys missed the plot plugging EVs while YOU make it political. Stop trying for clicks or wake up. "Hate" as you see it is based on mandates... which also drives the data.
I would have an EV now if I were buying a new vehicle, but I refuse to finance a vehicle, cash or pass and I just do not have the fun's to purchase a new vehicle at this time being 27 with a family. But there is almost no cost difference after 3 years between an EV and it's ICE counterpart and unless you do not have a home to charge an EV or go more than 75 mile regularly that an EV just doesn't fit your lifestyle, I think it would be idiotic to buy a new ICE vehicle if there is a comparable EV available.
When I finish restoring my 25 year old Ford Ranger EV, I'll drive it out to Colorado for Tommy to experience. 🙂 It also sounds like TFL should have really promoted Bollinger Motors.
We’re definitely seeing a shift to electrification with the growth in the hybrid market which provides benefits in efficiency and performance. I’m not a fan of subsidizing and forcing adoption… the reality is many cannot afford it and/or live with the current short-comings. Ultimately the answer cannot be a binary one… but one that taps into the strength of multiple choices. I enjoyed this video and father/son talking through something that has become so politicized.
I do not own a electric car. I have never driven a electric car, I was interested in purchasing your model three performance, all of that being said I believe the Tesla model two is going to change things significantly.
I don't think EVs are dead but you will not see massive sales until solid state batteries are being used. I say this because then you can tout the batteries safety from fires and less weight plus more range. Now people look at the EV and believe they catch on fire and don't travel very far. The other EV negative is they cost too much which is true with all new cars. Hopefully a lower cost battery technology will come out causing EVs to be more competitive with ICE vehicles.
I have an amazing Electric Scooter(Roadrunner RS5 Max). But I thought about waiting for Solid State Batteries before getting it. But I got it anyway. With that said, for a long time and for several reasons I have said to myself, “I would never get an electric car/truck until Solid State Batteries are a reality!”
Battery prices have been dropping without solid state batteries. Toyota certainly wanted people to wait for their solid state batteries, although solid state batteries have already started to appear.
@ Yes, that’s right. I cannot use my scooter like my truck. With my truck I can haul around tools and numerous other goods that I need to work on Houses. I can go to the grocery store and get numerous bags of groceries. Can’t do that on my electric scooter. But if all I need to do is get myself from point A to point B, the scooter is incredible/amazing. My truck is also amazing/astonishing and incredible. But boy, does it take up a whole lot more energy and cost a lot more than the scooter to operate. Different tools for different use cases. I can say that I luv both and am thankful to have them. But yeah, personally I wouldn’t get an Electric Truck until Solid State Batteries are real. If they ever are going to arrive. So far they have always been, “just a few years away”.
@jommy… What he meant is the PRICE. Buying a or not buying a scooter is a tiny bit different decision regarding the financial consequences than a $70k actual vehicle with 4 wheels and doors and seats etc. 😃
The EV’s are not dead. They will always have their place depending on the particular circumstances. And their share will only increase. I like the idea that we have more choices today.
There are plenty of options in that space now. They still are more expensive than equivalent gas vehicles though and slightly more than hybrids. That will change in the next 3-5 yrs then it’ll be up to what features you prefer.
@@jeargunky2210 Can't wait for a mid sized EV or hybrid truck to be able to tow 8K ibs, and can tow 400 miles and there are a TON of super fast chargers that are cheaper than the $ per mile for gas maybe in 10yrs if charging stations get put in along all the interstates because thats the use I want. I will hopefully be retiring in 2.5yrs and I will tow a toy hauler with my V6 GMC Canyon, mid sized truck, and I would like it to not add 5hours of charging to my 6hrs of towing trips I plan on doing to travel the country like I do now. EV is good for daily commutes which is a HUGE portion of users but I want to tow and travel for 6hrs per day and thats with (2) 10min gas full ups with using the bathroom, and grabbing snacks and back on the road. I know batteries will get more power/capacity and cheaper now we just need super chargers on the interstate for distance usage.
Very disappointed with Roman. I watch pretty much every video you post. Can you name one woman that lost her right to have an abortion? This is disgusting.
Yep. Most EVs are "soul-less" as Tommy says.. Can't believe that women's murder rights, (which is what many of us believe it is if the babies have a heartbeat) 💓 are being used as an analogy here..
This is a great topic and relevant and sparked a lot of varied commentary. We are at a point where technology is changing rapidly. There is no doubt that there will be greater EV adoption. Battery prices have come down. Batteries are getting more efficient and better all the time. This is helping drive ICE industry to make more efficient cars, which is why we see more and more hybrids. Hybrids are also now getting better electric motors and batteries (Toyota???). Whether you are for or against EVs, these are some of the things you need to know: The efficiency of a power station, What is the percentage loss of power over transmission lines? What percentage of energy produced in the USA is done by renewables? That may not look good for EVs but you could do the same for the ICE too. Bottom line, a EV at home is said to be cheaper to run than an ICE.
Roman was saying that people are choosing the vehicle they drive, either electric or internal combustion, based on their heart but not their head. There is truth to that, but people always make financial decisions based on a combination of what they can afford and what they desire. I used to drive a 2002 GMC Sonoma, and I didn't like the exterior styling but loved the interior. There was a radio, heater/air conditioning, and a comfortable interior that was designed for driver comfort. Now I have a 2016 GMC Canyon, and I really like the exterior design but absolutely HATE the interior design and lack of comfort. Everything in the Canyon interior is annoying because nothing is easy to reach/use, and the constant computer "suggestions" and interference make me want to smash the screen and rip it out of the dash. My favorite electric trucks are the Canoo, Scout Terra, and Alpha Wolf. These three vehicles are interesting designs with some retro styling. I hate the minimalist design of the electric vehicle interior with a huge center screen. Like Tommy said an EV with switches and a more traditional interior design would be more appealing to me. Everyone says Rivian is a great vehicle, but I don't like the standardized styling of electric vehicles. Most electric vehicles are too smooth and remind me of a celebrity that had too much plastic surgery. The main thing that prevents me from buying an electric vehicle is that I don't understand the electric terminology like Kilowatts and how that relates to range and charging times. The fact that different cars use different charging plugs works against EV adoption. If Ford internal combustion engines only used diesel, a GM only used gas, and a Dodge only used propane, but all electric vehicles used one type of charging plug people would prefer electric vehicles. I don't know which electric vehicle I would prefer based on charging plug design and the availability of chargers in my area. I don't have a garage, I park on the street, and in winter, the temperature drops to minus 45 degrees Celsius (-49 Fahrenheit), so I don't think an electric vehicle would work for me.
Tommy needs to buy a Dacia Spring EV that has no screens and lots of buttons………….. it costs less than many ICE vehicles but it won’t go very far on one charge. It’s range is plenty enough for most of the population. What I want is an ICE that has no tailpipe emissions………… and making its fuel doesn’t kill loads of people with the emissions that generates. There is a huge issue with PHEVs - people don’t plug them in so are driving around in a car with a heavy battery and additional motor that don’t get used. We’ve proved that here in the UK - people with PHEVs just never ran them in EV mode.
In a previous post I explained TDS as T0taL. Diesel. and the word S-y-n-d-r-0me Somehow that’s against the rules and post is gone. No jokes allowed here.
EV's have reached a plateau and even a mild decline in demand. The issues for most consumers are well documented from real costs to buy, operate, insure, maintain, serious issues in real life use. To me they work best for moderate local use, work commuting, in places with moderate temperatures. Instead of making the dystopian dumpster the Tesla Cybertruck is, they should have built light to light-medium delivery vans like for Amazon, UPS, FedEx for urban and suburban use.
The fact that you mention operation, maintenance and temps as detractors means you don’t know much if anything about EV’s except what you read in social media comments
Roman, have been watching your videos for 10 years and you guys put out great content but I’m here for automotive content, not for your far left political views. It’s your channel and you are free to do what you want but I’ll stop watching if I have to listen to political crap again on TFL.
I just bought a lightning flash because the pros outweighed the cons for me. There is no way this is an ideal vehicle for most people. Too expensive and needs more range.
The Democrat Party had 50 years to codify abortion into federal law. Democrats failed. The idea that Kamala was somehow going to get congress to agree on a nationwide abortion law was delusional.
I’d love to see good classic/retro-style EVs in the market, even if they’re pricier. Analog gauges, knobs, switches, little to no screens. That said, I’d personally choose the cheaper EV with the tech. I’d love to admire a retro-style car but I’m not the target market
I’m not against EVs. I’m against having a separate vehicle for every use case. Yes, an EV is a great commuter. But if I want to pay 1 insurance premium, and I want to do everything with it, my ICE midsize truck does it all. And Roman, governments don’t have any money to give away for free.
The “EV isn’t fun to drive” sentiment maybe works for enthusiasts who otherwise could get a Corvette or AMG. But a RAV4 or Honda Odyssey or Corolla are not fun to drive. And an EV would be 10 times more refined than driving any 1.5 liter 4-cylinder crossover which is the biggest part of the car market.
I definitely think Tommy gives PHEVs too much credit. They really are the worst of both worlds. If you can't plug in at home, you should just get a hybrid or standard ICE. If you can plug in at home, the equivalent EV will be superior in every way. As someone who has owned and driven PHEVs for 12 to 13 years, they are just a band aid for the consumer and a massive capital, time, and R&D sink for automakers attempting to transition to EVs.
I love my hybrid and wish I'd gotten one sooner. Great fuel economy, not much additional cost, and no need to think about plugging it in. I often drive outside of the city on weekends throughout the year, so the ease and speed of refueling matters to me. I also live in a cold climate, but my efficiency is hardly impacted. All in all, I am in no rush to buy an electric...and I doubt I could afford one, anyway. As for screens, I don't like them. Drivers are much too distracted as a result. Bring back buttons!!!
20:15 this argument that we are going to strain the grid makes no sense to me...did we ask this when we added A/C, electric heaters, electric water heaters, and all these other things everywhere? What about when we adopted the internet and guilt server farms everywhere? Both these things on their own (heck ACs on their own without other loads) added as much demand or more than an all EV fleet when we get there (about 40yrs out)...the addition of power is not an issue as long as it happens gradually and we can add the infrastructure as we need it...
Tommy's "silver bullet" that would put EVs ahead of ICE vehicles has already happened (lithium batteries), but times are different now than they were 100 years ago. When gas cars surpassed electric and steam in the early 20th century, the entire automotive market was new. For modern EVs, the challenge is different. There's already a supply chain and enough manufacturing capacity of ICE vehicles to sell a car to everyone who wants one. For EVs, on the other hand, our max production capacity amounts to less than 15% of the current new car market, and in addition to the supply chains and manufacturing capacity needing to play catch up, ICE vehicles have about a 100 year head start on public fueling infrastructure. That's far less important for EVs, but it is still a sticking point for some people and some use cases, and we're probably another 20 years away from the public charging infrastructure being sufficient to support a 100% transition to EVs (i.e., all 300 million cars on the road being electric).
People don’t really understand the case use for EV’s. I treat them like an appliance. It gets you from point a to point B. I love cars I have a Type R, 996 911 and a Jeep Wrangler but also have a Chevy Bolt EV and we love that little Bolt for what it does. I wouldn’t have an EV in a rural area. Like Roman case use is everything.
In my opinion it very simple. Time is money and the EV does not save time. Usually building a better mouse trap will prevail but the EV is not a better mouse trap. It doesn’t get further range than gas vehicles. Charging time is significantly longer than stopping by the pump. It doesn’t tow more, haul more or transport more people. They dont cost significantly less. Other than not having to spend 5 minutes at the pump if you have a home charger, there’s literally no significant benefits. It’s not a political right vs left thing. It’s a time is the thing you can’t get back thing and I’m not going for coffee or lunch for 45 minutes while my vehicle charges and I’m not buying 2 cars to do the work of one because of road trips etc. Build a better mouse trap and naturally the buyers will come. There’s a reason they’ve been around awhile and California still has a less than 20% purchase rate.
I think the left side of the fence made electric vehicles the future and the end of ice cars. I think if they would have made it a transition to electric it would be fine but when you say in ten year we’re going to take your choice away that’s what turn some people off.
Buy a Jeep 4XE? Oh the vehicle that’s had fire recalls from a company going bankrupt? Great advice.
This is why HEVs and PHEVs make so much sense. Toyota was right.

Couldn’t agree more, Roman is talking out of his political ass
My Bolt needs cabin air filters every 22.5k miles and coolant flush at 70k. Nice try, stop consuming fud.
The EV market is facing some tough challenges right now. Massive depreciation, high insurance rates, and acquisition cost of ownership all add up, making EVs less attractive to buyers. The only way they seem to be staying afloat is through leasing. Not political, it is basic economics.
In the US, they are making strives in a positive direction. But they are struggling in comparison to China and other countries.
Yeah, China is mopping the floor with us. We need to compete
@@jlaw1901why again ? Wein theUS need to stop trying to compete with China. They will fail on their own. If we don't buy them.
The real contention is EV's are becoming mandatory over time. That's why it's political.
Nope! Flying cars are next!
No one is forcing EVs. There are tax credits, but there are also tax incentives for the petroleum industry.
The Norwegian EV incentives:
No purchase/import tax on EVs (1990-2022). From 2023 some purchase tax based on the cars’ weight on all new EVs.
Exemption from 25% VAT on purchase (2001-2022). From 2023, Norway will implement a 25% VAT on the purchase price from 500 000 Norwegian Kroner and over
No annual road tax (1996-2021). Reduced tax from 2021. Full tax from 2022.
No charges on toll roads (1997- 2017).
No charges on ferries (2009- 2017).
Maximum 50% of the total amount on ferry fares for electric vehicles (2018)
Maximum 50% of the total amount on toll roads (2018-2022). From 2023 70%
Free municipal parking (1999- 2017)
Access to bus lanes (2005-). New rules allow local authorities to limit the access to only include EVs that carry one or more passengers (2016-)
25% reduced company car tax (2000-2008).
50% reduced company car tax (2009-2017). Company car tax reduction reduced to 40% (2018-2021) and 20 percent from 2022.
Exemption from 25% VAT on leasing (2015-)
The Norwegian Parliament decided on a national goal that all new cars sold by 2025 should be zero-emission (electric or hydrogen) (2017).
Charging right» for people living in apartment buildings was established (2017-)
Public procurement: From 2022 cars needs to be ZEV. From 2025 the same applies to city buses

BEVs are dead mandates or not. IC engines along with hybridization are the future. Shorts trips will be on a battery, but longer trips will use gas.
The US government forces democracy on many other countries that's wrong too?
Sure, but there is a difference between religious belief and scientific analysis.

The moment EVs started failing was when the government said we have to have them.
Very true!
They should have told us not to get them. Reverse psychology, bro.
Roman proving once again that he has too much money and doesn’t need patreons support.

Some cars and even trucks already get 500mi. NOT inexpensive though.

31:40 abortion rights weren’t taken away. The Supreme Court gave it back to the states for them to decide.
So states can take it away.
And states extend abortion until after the birth as well. Don’t give me this crap that some aren’t allowing a baby to die after birth which is essentially abortion past birth.
No , the VOTER CAN TAKE IT AWAY IN EACH STATE . THE VOTER CAN.
These guys are on MSNBC talking points 😂
@@snomass1 right so it matters how much your state is indoctrinated with right wing Christian values wheather or not a woman has access rather than all American women having equal access.
From my personal feelings, beliefs & perspectives, heres my main points on this - and this is from a current hybrid owner (2 vehicles) -
1) take the government out of rhe incentive business for the ev. I got no incentives for thr hybrids i purchased but still like them.
Let them stand on their own.
2) do EVs really help the environment? You all are saying they do, other commentary where they don't.
I don't believe most media on this so my view is skewed. I still don't mind having EVs or hybrids or ICE ...but from environmental perspective, chill out
3) terrible take on abortion.
Is depressing seeing all those people wanting to charge their electric cars while I go to the gas station and pump gas in less than a few minutes.
Yes, but we have had over 100 years to rollout those gas stations. Also remember in the early gas days, it was delivered as cans of gas. Every house and every business has electricity, fundamentally changing over to charging is not that hard a shift.
It’s NOT depressing at all. 😃 I always look at it and wonder if I can sell them a bridge?
@pa… 😃…. 🍿 👀 👍
I watch TFL network videos to escape from the damn politics. I guess I was wrong…
For heavens sake. We produce hundreds of non political car and truck videos and reviews each year and ONLY ONE of them was about the politics of electric cars which cannot be separated from EVs.

EVs could be "a" solution but not "the" solution. Its not gonna work for every situation. I dont need a second car. I'm okay what I drive.
Tommy is such a boomer, it's incredible.
On hatred of EV's I think you're missing the point. Most people I know feel that forcing EV's on people is the issue. Making it a country wide mandate that ICE vehicles will be banned is essentially forcing EV's on us. EV's are great for around town trips but not for long trips due to the recharge times.
It’s not free money. It’s all of our tax dollars going towards a few people who can afford a new expensive car.
also its not $7K, its $7K OFF their taxes so someone like me that gets back $2K every year in tax returns, I would not receive anything for the $7K tax credit since I already pay more than I need to and get back $2K so for people that actually get money back from taxes we would get nothing compared to those that are rich and use those tax breaks.
It’s about creating a market that can support the innovation we need to compete with China.
What else is he accepting from these companies….
why would you watch TFL if you Hate them so much? LoL
Maybe Elon should return all the subsidies that help his company to succeed over the yrs and use the money to sub combustion engine..?
If you live in LA it’s forced upon you by the state government!
Not true, I drive a gas guzzler ford raptor and nobody tells me otherwise
Prove it. If you can't you're just lying to push your agenda. Otherwise it wouldn't be if you lived in la, it would be if you live in California.
@ 👍 Team Gas Guzzler!
Weight improves center of mass in an ev and makes it less likely to roll over. There's at least 1 benefit 🤷♂️
No, a heavy ass car is NEVER a positive. Stop spreading more FUD and lies.
Roman is wrong on this. You are correct sir.
Keep your opinions to your self.
Exactly right
Your initial assessment was correct, stay out of politics.
Here in Texas, we have to be second to Cali with electric cars!
I do not own a electric car. I have never driven a electric car, I was interested in purchasing your model three performance, all of that being said I believe the Tesla model two is going to change things significantly.
Lots of us don't want any government payments to anyone.
@@jimmyrichards5595 Buying an electric scooter is not the same as buying a $70,000 electric car that will depreciate immediately.
I like the idea that we have more choices today.
people don't want a Leaf they want a midsized or full sized truck or SUV
The government in the US also makes EVs more expensive by placing tariffs on cars from china.
Thumbs down on this video. Y'all sound like yall have TDS.
Just figured that out? They are in Colorado, the cesspool of lefties that ruined the state.
What’s tds ? 😂
TDS == Total Diesel Syndrome
In a previous post I explained TDS as T0taL.
Diesel.
and the word S-y-n-d-r-0me
Somehow that’s against the rules and post is gone.
I owe model Y and the ride is not smooth especially in the city since suspension is super stiff. But it's fun to drive once one is used to.
my 2023 jeep compass was built in mexico cost $38K, if it had the tariff i would have chosen a different car instead of paying the higher price...
I feel Roman on this. We are both agnostic when it comes to Evs/ cars in genral 🤣
The Democrat Party had 50 years to codify abortion into federal law. Democrats failed. The idea that Kamala was somehow going to get congress to agree on a nationwide abortion law was delusional.
This is like watching a bad joe rogan podcast clip but for an hour.
He just stood up for America, that’s all. No big deal!
If you want a car with analog switches and buttons, drive a Bolt.
Like it or not, we have to compete with China. If we don’t pursue EVs in the US, we are giving the future to China.
Electric cars are like sports cars and pickup trucks, there is nothing better for certain task, but still need work on being an all rounder.
Roman is suffering from TDS. 😂
Most States “ electric grid companies are * fossil fuel based anyway! MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE .
Your hairstylist clearly drives electric.
The problem is manufacturers are producing technology for the sake of technology
