    Gymnastics routines have become a bit repetitive and formulaic in the past decade, as most gymnasts perform the same range of skills - usually the ones with less room for deductions.
    So whether they don't fit properly in the composition, they're way too risky with not enough reward or the likelihood of large deductions is high,
    we haven't seen the following elements in competition in a while.
    In this video, we'll take a look at super difficult skills no one is performing in 2022.

    I can't believe the Dos Santos2 is the same value like the Silivas that almost every other elite gymnast performs nowadays.

      @@emmathedilemmma I don't think it needs to be downgraded. Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's not difficult. However, Dos Santos 2 definitely needs a higher value.

      @@hannibaljustincase9985 I agree. If the Silivas was downgraded, then all gymnasts would stop doing it and revert to a full-in or something much easier instead. What needs to happen is more difficult skills like the Dos Santos 2, the Moors, and the 3.5 twist are upgraded to encourage more gymnasts to try them.

    Said it in another video, but will say it again here: Props and grateful to this channel for properly writing and pronouncing Magaña with the "ñ". "Ñs" are totally different from "Ns" and many others ignore it or even try to acknowledge that difference. This channel does it right. Great! And thanks!

    I don't think Silivas or Chusovitina have to be downgraded, but obviously that DS II needs to be upgraded, I think an I it's fair.

    Simone actually performed the Biles I vault during podium training at the 19 Worlds, but she didn't compete it. She did it quite easily, but I guess she felt the Cheng was more consistent.

      @@karyon1007 yes 2018 was the last time she actually competed it. She stuck with the Cheng since it was already solid and with the amanar as a second vault, she was good enough with those 2 vaults.

    Not to be disrespectful to current gymnasts but the sport has become a little dull in some areas. People have stopped pushing themselves to do amazing routines.

    • @gregsquires6201
      @gregsquires6201 2 роки тому +11

      That's the fault of the code of points. You can do an amazing routine and lose, or do a routine optimized to get the highest score and win. Most coaches and gymnasts choose to go for the win. So why have the code of points? It's there to give credit to gymnasts doing more difficult skills, which is a good thing, but it's imperfect - more of an art than a science, as this video shows. Each change to the code, upgrading or downgrading skills is in response to some issue or complaint, and its impossible to get everything right.
      For example, after watching this video everyone is saying the full in double pike off beam should be worth more than the tuck. FIG definitely knows about these complaints, so lets say they upgrade the value for the next update. Then you might get a situation where coaches and gymnasts find they can score higher than other dismounts with a full in double pike, and everyone starts doing them. Then people start complaining that everyone does a full in double pike for their dismount, and all routines look the same. It's kind of a no win situation.

  • @nathanielhalls1893

    Idk why the pike full in is the same value as the tuck

    • @gregsquires6201
      @gregsquires6201 2 роки тому +1

      For lower level skills it doesn't make much of a difference. Doing a single pike instead of a tuck probably isn't going to get more deductions so it doesn't warrant an upgrade in difficulty. Even double pikes aren't that much harder than double tucks, so same value, and the code is probably just following this trend. The problem is when skills get more intricate like a full in on beam there is a very good chance that the deductions on a pike will be greater than a tuck, so I believe it should be upgraded.

    Can someone explain me why the piked version of a skill often has the same value as the tucked one? There are much harder to execute flawlessly. There are exceptions like the Nagornyy, which is - if I'm not mistaken - of higher value as the Liukin (I and H respectively). When I was a kid practicing gymnastics, I've always found unfair that a straight salto had the same value as the piked and the tucked ones. On what criteria do judges (or the people in charge of the CoP) decide if the versions of a skill get different values?

    • @eternal_petrichor
      @eternal_petrichor 2 роки тому +1

      @@hannahwalmer1124 It seems that the lower the difficulty of a skill is, the less it matters. A salto is a B, regardless if it's a tuck, pike or layout. A young gymnast who managed a perform a layout is rewarded the same as one doing a pike or a tuck... Maybe the values should not be the same depending on the levels of the competing athletes.

    • @asharadayne6159
      @asharadayne6159 Рік тому

      Because the goal of competing is to maximize your score so that you have a good chance of winning a medal, and for most gymnasts, the DLO and the full-twisting-double tuck are the most difficult bars dismounts that they can perform reliably, safely, and with minimal deductions. Part of it is what the code rewards, but when it comes to bars dismounts, the Mustafina, Fabrichnova, Ray, and Margaña are either unachievable or massive deduction traps for the vast majority of gymnasts out there. Oh, and the 1/1 DLO is only rated an E, so it's rarely worth performing if you can do a clean DLO. If it were upgraded to an F (a sensible) upgrade, then we'd probably see it more. The Ray dismount should also be upgraded to an H, IMO, but I still don't see too many gymnasts being able to perform it.

    Can we just give an overall "disclaimer" which states:
    "The 'Biles,' I, II, or CXXVIII; be it on the Vault, Bars, Beam or Floor, has or likely will be seen performed again by anyone other than the titular gymnast these moves are named for. Therefore, we shall exclude those such moves from these videos for the sake of saving time & avoiding the general redundancy. Thank you for your understanding!"

    • @asharadayne6159
      @asharadayne6159 Рік тому +2

      I'd say that it's way too early to say that, especially given that gymnasts like Jade Carey have already trained a layout version of the Biles II. That's the one that I think is most likely to be performed by really powerful gymnasts in the future because it's properly valued relative to its difficulty. I could also see the Biles Vault being performed by another powerhouse vaulter who's already got a good Cheng somewhere down the line because the difficulty value might make it rewarding. I don't see the Biles I (FX) becoming particularly popular because the Chusovitina is an easier upgrade of the DLO for most gymnasts, BUT I could see some tumblers who aren't good with all the twisting required to a Silivas, Moors, or Biles II doing a Chuso as well as a Biles I + Stag Jump if they really want two H-rated passes. The Biles dismount, however, will likely never be done again unless it gets upgraded to an I or a J because it's simply not worth performing at its current value.
      Edit: It's also worth noting that other gymnasts successfully performed the Biles I in national competitions before Biles successfully landed it an FIG competition and succeeded in getting it named after herself and added to the code. (That's just how skill-naming works.) So, I actually see it as very likely that her two FX skills will become part of future routines, even though they'll remain rare.
