DIY Tesla Model X CCS Retrofit

- In this video I go over DIY steps to install the CCS Retrofit modification on a salvage/rebuilt title Tesla Model X. If you have a clean titled vehicle there is no real reason to do this DIY in North America as Tesla will provide you with the full CCS kit (includes CCS1 Adapter), install it, and update the vehicles configuration all for around $480 US. Currently the DIY method is going to cost around $1000 to get all those things lined up. Not cheap, but well worth it for a Salvage/Rebuilt title owner who hasn't (or cannot) have Tesla re-enable their Supercharging. Which costs a minimum of $800 IF your battery and High Voltage system are in pristine working order....one dent on the battery pack and you will spend $600 just to fail the inspection. I know, it happened to me!
Please feel free to contact me anytime in the comments or at bilbosrandomcrap@gmail.com if you have any questions or need help getting hardware kits or help with the configuration change.

Great video. Thank you for all your efforts.
You are welcome. Hope it helps!
Thanks for the video. My salvage 2018 MX is being inspected by tesla right now. Hoping it passes and I don't have to do this. the CCS retrofit is scheduled after the inspection for $450. Fingers crossed.
I hope the inspection goes well for you! I’m surprised to hear your getting a Model X inspected. Up until now most Model X owners have not been able to schedule the inspections. Congrats!
Great instructional video Bill! Thanks for the kit! Too bad toolbox 3 does not change the configuration for how much it costs to subscribe!
Thanks! There is a sliver of hope on the configuration change front. Some people on Tesla Motor Club are reporting (with pictures) that one of the new software builds (2023.12.1) has a Service Mode option under High Voltage--Charging with a "CCS Retrofit" button. The hope is that it will automatically change the configuration for you once the mod is complete. Here is the link:

@@bilbo75 Thanks for the video! It's really helpful manual 💯 What's about configuration change and Redeploy? How have you changed config and than started Software Redeploy?
@@bestnova So it now depends on whether or not you have an MCU 1 or 2. If you have an upgraded MCU 2, you can now do the configuration change and redeploy through the vehicles’s Service Mode. Info about that here:

If you have an MCU1 vehicle then you will need to get someone to do it for you. I can get you in touch with someone that does this if you’re interested
Please link for the wire harness and charging computer part number
I just ordered a retrofit kit for my 2017 model x thanks for the great video wondering if you can get me in touch with your friend invade I need it. I have a cord already to connect to diagnostic plug.
Yes, I can can get you in touch with someone that can do it remotely over the internet. Just contact me through this email account: bilbosrandomcrap@gmail.com
Glad it was helpful! Happy to answer any questions you have as you go through the process.
How do you configure it with the laptop? Do you just connect and reboot it, or is there some other configuration needed?

Can you help me get in touch with someone who does this with MCU 1?

Are you looking for where you can purchase the CCS Retrofit Kit?
Do you know if there’s a way to only get the ECU and wiring harness for the model X? I already own a CCS adapter.
@@juanaguirre6814Unfortunately, I don’t think there is any way to buy a brand new ECU and wiring harness without getting an adapter with it. You might be able to find someone selling a salvage version though. Both the US and European kits come with their respective adapters for CCS1 (North America) and CCS2 (EU). I generally tell people to just resell the adapters on EBay if they don’t need them. For some reason Tesla always seems to run out of them on their online store, so you can generally get full price for them on EBay.
Where the link to the retrofit to buy?
You can either go on EBay and search for them or you can email me directly and I’ll sell it to you without the EBay fees tacked on.
