    I only have one fob, too. They say they will have a second one in 6 months. Now, my passenger airbag light is turned. The heck.

      Depending on when you’ve got your car, they have just released letters to most owner that you can make an appointment at the dealer to get your second one program and they have now got the shipment at least here in Canada

    I’m sorry? But how many “issues and incidents” will it take for people to realize Toyota ain’t any more reliable than any other manufacturer?!? Let’s drop the pretense, shall we?

    • @Erikzapp
      @Erikzapp  4 місяці тому +1

      Toyota used to be #1 in the planet for reliability. That’s a fact for sure, but in recent years though and especially this one, things are changing in a huge way!

      Quality has gone to shit. It is not a reliable manufacturer. 2020 highlander safety recalls for passenger airbag still open

      Took delivery in Aug 23 of an XLE. Like the car. I wasn't overly concerned when the ds air curtain recall came out last month. Even with the production and delivery halt. I'm beginning to become very concerned at this point however. Toyota no longer will accept this vehicle as a trade in until the issue is resolved according to a Toyota sales manager. Off the record he told me that he is hearing that production may not restart on the 24 GH and even more concerning they may discontinue the 1st generation, redesign for the 25 model year. Depending on how true these rumors are and what eventually transpires will without a doubt affect the values (retail,wholesale, trade in) both short and long term. I foresee the potential for a large class action down the road which also won't be good for the values. Even more concerning but not surprising Toyota is keeping this very close to the vest. You have to wonder how many serious injuries or worse, have resulted from their rush to produce this model.

    I can totally agree on the thin metal. I went to buy a GH and one of the things that shocked me, was when I closed the doors you can see how the door panel shake . I never experienced that before. I made a deposit for a 2024 GH and I am seriously considering skipping at least the 2024 model.

      Yes, it is definitely a real thing. My Ford truck, our 2018 Corolla even, 09 Mercedes, none of them feel like they’re made of flimsy metal. I haven’t seen what the previous years standard Highlander METAL was like but it’s possible that this may just be a grand Highlander issue. I know Toyota Drive trains are invincible for the most part, with the exception of this new one, only time will tell. But the body quality is definitely something to think about before purchasing. We looked into a Mazda CX 90 before getting this one and the body panels felt proper and structural. So we were surprised to see how the medical quality was on this one when it showed up, and when we purchased it, there wasn’t any demo models available to see what the build quality was like so we had to wait until it showed up. Aside that and a few minor issues, it’s been a good vehicle.

      Yeah they’re a great car from what it seems. As a first model year though only time will tell. Especially with the new 2.4T engine

    Did you notice the extreme turning of the steering wheel to the right? Looks like that's what causes the airbag to also twist and allow the head to move into that area. I wonder if that happens if someone is holding the steering wheel.

    • @Erikzapp
      @Erikzapp  4 місяці тому +1

      Good eye! I did not notice that. It’s crazy because the car has a feature, lane keep assist where it actually keeps you in the lane and if you get a little bit close to a line, it will steer you abruptly back into the lane instead of smoothly and it can be very, annoying at times. Wonder if that has anything to do with it

    • @RetiredSince2024
      @RetiredSince2024 4 місяці тому

      @@Erikzapp you mean like it was trying to avoid the collision? I’m not sure why else it would go to the right so fast.

    • @Erikzapp
      @Erikzapp  4 місяці тому +1

      @@RetiredSince2024 well in my GH, the lane keep assist senses a line of the road on whichever side your closest to and abruptly steers you in the opposite direction. Even after about 8 months owning the car, it still shocks me to this day because you have to counter steer the auto steer the car does. Maybe that is what happened in the collision video. Apparently though the airbag falls out of position tho when the window is open resulting in the fatal head blow. Aside that there are no reports to say if it would be a different outcome when the window was closed.

    Hmm sounds like this vehicle has a few issues that certain owners and company are discovering ,that are not good and not at all good for the reputation of Toyota . How can we trust the New vehicles they are coming out with such as the hydrogen fuel cell car . This is a serious matter for sure . Id be trading it in rather than risk being killed or seriously injured . thanks for bring the issue up along with the key fob, this shouldn't happen and doesn't say much for their quality control .

    Did the car really come with just one key fob? That’s strange. Since 2020, the car buying experience got worse, obviously because of what the pandemic did to the industry. Was shopping just this past month for a new vehicle in the same class as the GH and was just disappointed on its stock availability.

    • @Erikzapp
      @Erikzapp  3 місяці тому

      Yes, that’s right. At the time of purchase, it only came with one key fob, however, you were also notified that another one would come in within one years time. It has been about 10 months now and we just got the notice in the mail that we can come have our second key programmed.
