Country music back then told stories of love, hardship, the gospel, and much more. Anyone mind telling me'when was the last time you heard anything like that in today's country music?
On this day in 1959 {February 8th} Johnny Cash performed "Don't Take Your Guns To Town" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... One month earlier on January 19th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #32 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... And on February 23rd it reached #1 {for 6 weeks} on Billboard's Hot C&W Sides chart... Johnny Cash passed away on September 12th, 2003 at the age of 71... R.I.P. Mr. Cash and Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974}...
This song was my introduction to Johnny, played it on a juke box at a restaurant when I was six or seven, started a lifelong appreciation for the man in black.
There are several lessons in this song. Number one, mother knows best. Number two, don’t get too big for your britches. Arrogance leads to mistakes and in the worst cases, death.
Hey friend i noticed mostly good people listen to good music. This is a great song, and youre right, the emotion he puts in any song makes the song so much better.
the music of early johnny cash songs especially this one is so basic an simply ....... yet the songs still sound so rich ........ why? .. cos of his voice an his lyrics .. its always what is the focus of any of his songs .. he draws you in .. an he is quite demanding listening
My grandad is 85 and he still likes johnny cash. My grandad's name is william, but everyone calls him bill, when comes the day when my brandad bill dies, i would like this song to be played at his funeral!
Yesterday I was driving quiet when a guy cut me off the road. But I've heard a voice in my mind, not my mom's, but Jhony's voice: "don't take your guns to town". So, nobody died.
Awesome song! Thank You Hank Hamm for honoring the great Johnny Cash. The moral of the story is in the title Don't Take Your Guns To Town. Thank You too Johnny Cash.
Im a millenial. My friend died at 19. Moms always said dont take your car keys to a party and wear a seat belt. He died from drunk driving 20 yards from his house. He crashed into a parked car at a high speed and was ejected because of not wearing a seat belt.
The moral to this story is: Don't go thinking you're tough just bcuz you got some liquor, drugs, etc. in your system & you're armed !!! It's all about who gets who 1st & alcohol & drugs tend to make you have bad judgment & delayed reactions... look @ dead Billy !!!
Its known as input lag. Next time your at a football game and see on the jumbotron a person singing the star spangled banner the video is always out of sync
If you grewup in an old cowboy town it makes perfect sense. The story is so easy to relate. You never grewup with the stories of all the dead young men from gun fights over nonsense.
It's amazing that a song half a century old about a boy in the old west has a message that still applies to today.
This song will bring the massage to young boys for many years to come.
yep - I was just listening to it now because i am going to be going into town soon and I am going to leave mine at home. Thanks Mr. Cash
I fear we wont have story tellers like Mr. Cash ever again....
Marco v cherry blooosm

Highly doubtful.
Check out ian siegal he does it well and is a present genius on the circuit 😊
Mommas always right. She was saying "don't go looking for trouble because it'll find you son" and he didn't listen
At age 9, I saw Johnny sing this song in 1957 at the Ellis Auditorium in Memphis. I still remember that thrill after over 50 years!
Only country I'll listen too. Legend off top.
I will listen to any Country from before the 90s and very little past then, but Johnny Cash crossed all boundaries.
I only listen to Classic Country or traditional country artists.
