Good video, AJ. I appreciate the detail. Kept me from buying an X-Maxx when I already have an XRT, just going to be buying some alternate wheels/tires for the XRT. It seems like they are just too close to bother having both, unless you just want both. Which is also fine.
I think the xrt takes the win. It just looks smoother all the way around. Although I have drove neither one of them. The Xmaxx seems to get more hype but I really enjoy xrt videos.

And MAN the RC action really got my blood flowing, great action, spectacular locations, and great driving! Keep up the great action
Great video, you had me at "I can compare a VW to a Mercedes if I want", that's what I'm talking about! Glad the weather and terrain are getting back to manageable conditions. Looking forward to your XRT ranking in the main line-up.
I have the XRT. I bought it in February of 2023. I have had a lot of breakage on it, but I think that is more due to the cold temps in MN. I have been considering buying an X Maxx too, but have not pulled the trigger yet. Also considering the Maxx. Thanks for the video!
The XRT has had less trouble out of the box for me. The XRT is wider, the body doesn't fly off all the time, the stock tires are better, the center driveshaft doesn't bend, and it's more stable when going fast. Thanks for the video. I still love my X-Maxx though 😂
I have to say, your one heck of a operator. You know how to push these engineering Marvel's to there peak performance, your showing the extreme capabilities these vehicles are built to do. I bought a Xmas from watching youR video, but now I'm wanting to get a xrt the only issue, these are not cheap vehicles. But they're worth every penny and some. Thank you so much for all the education you share in your videos. I take a lot of knowledge from them! or I think you say it best, KEEP BASHING GUYS!!!!!
I've got quite a few durability mods on my xmaxx - rpm suspension arms, capture hinge pins, bead lock trencher tires, and proline brute bash body. Still on stock power. Went thicker on the diff fluid and the shock oil and it's almost unbreakable. That truck impresses me with its capability every single time I take it out for a rip
Awesome video as usual… great location and like the real world type driving… was gonna go xmaxx first but found the special edition black xrt very sharp couldn’t pass it up…. so xmaxx next
Had my xrt for months and still find myself in a daze when ever I bring it out, just ordered a stainless steel skid plate and some $200 tomahawk wheels and tires by jetko... Can't wait to bring it out
thanx for the informative video! is there a difference regarding reliability in general and durability in light bashing? I hate replacing parts after each drive...thanks again
Light bashing is a doddle for these. Generally speaking unless you land heavily or hit something immovable they are tough. Concrete skateparks can be tough on them. You can spray WD40 on the plastics..(A Arms, chassis etc) a good coat on everything, and let it sit overnight...wipe off the excess and it does actually make them more flexable. I clipped a gutter on the street at about half throttle being an idiot and it bent the front lower A arm back far enough (didn't split either) it simply ejected the outer, lower pin. It looked like I broke it. Inspected the arms and nothing... pin wasn't even bent. Put it back together and it's been fine since.
I just got my xrt today and ordered about 850 in parts I even got a clear body to paint myself. I was going to get a max5 but at the last min I ordered a xlx2 was that a mistake I've 30 days to return it after seeing the fires I'm questioning my decision. I raced for 10 years and used losi. I can look at the xrt and knew the choice I'd make. It looked fast enough stock but you know how that goes. Please inform me on my esc choice. THANKS!
We’ve seen the fires too but do not have one here. The esc that comes in the XRT is good right out of the box so I wouldn’t swap out out until there’s a problem. I have personally seen the max 6 catch fire so it’s a possibility for many of them. As always, the choice is yours. Best of luck, AJ
You got one of the baddest esc's out bruh. The Max 5 is also a great choice but I think you made the right decision. Pretty sure Castle refined the issues they had with the older units
I have both. Both are fully upgraded with max5 1100kv power, both have all the m2c goodies you can get for each of them and a few vitavon ones too and both are wicked fun to drive no matter where you run them. But make sure you have good sets of shoes on them for the terrain
How about a Wide X Maxx? I have spent most of my time with truggies and a few 1/8 scale buggies. Anyway was never a fan of the X Maxx. Terrible steering from the factory, overall, just a sloppy machine. Was the biggest dust collector in my fleet. Once I upgraded to a high torque 8.4v servo, Traxxas HD servo saver, aluminum bellcranks, and the wide kit the truck completely transformed. It still rides high but has quick a bit of flickability for something so big. Unfortunately there is still a lot of body roll without a swaybar kit and I'm surprised Traxxas didn't come up with them for the XRT. I wouldn't put swaybars on my X Maxx, but some might even if just for an experiment. The X Maxx in wide trim is still a handful and that is a huge part of it's charm in my opinion. I hate giving this opinion but "if you can own both just do that." lol. One of the best things I ever did was buy a talion exb to sit next to my kraton exb. Having parts interchangeability is nice and you learn more about the platform that way. Good review video!
Did you actually break an a-arm? Or did you put on the rpm for the hell of it? Because I’ve had no durability issues with my xmaxx. Aside from tires and capture hibge pins, I haven’t had to make any durability upgrades to mine. The thing is a beast! I’ll send it off 10-15’ bmx jumps, skate parks, you name it, full send all the time and she runs like brand new. I can’t believe you’re having durability concerns

Putting the X-Maxx tires on the XRT was a great idea! Personally, I was and have been looking at the X-Maxx, but after seeing this? I'm not so sure... Thanks for putting together another great comparison video. Please keep them coming my friend!
If you’re considering the xmaxx, get it! I’ve had mine for three years and love LOVE it! Buying that was the best decision ever. I haven’t driven the xrt yet but I don’t even care. the xmaxx is the most fun rc experience I’ve ever had and I don’t see how ANY car could top it. Plus if you want a stable 8s, you could always strap on the wide xmaxx kit and get almost the same result as the xrt. I can’t say enough good things about it. Imo the xmaxx is the absolute APEX of rc basher. It drives small too, like the turn radius of my xmaxx is about the same as my Maxx 4s w the widemaxx kit
I should also add the xmaxx doesn’t roll over the same way most monster truck basherd do. It’s so heavy that it actually slides instead of flipping over
Love seeing your vids! I have owned the XRT for a month now, and I love it! I can't say much about the XMaxx because I don't own one. The XRT fulfills my satisfaction, runs great, looks amazing, handles very well, I have kart wheeled it a few times, but the things just keeps on going! Now, I don't plan on extreme bashing the xrt cause it a beautiful RC, but i will build a small ramp and make it airborn. I say it is worth it, but like you said in the other vid, it is pricey, and you do get what you pay for.
