1st video I've seen from the channel and I'm impressed. Many ppl wanna go in depth about things and tend to be opinion based. Excited to find someone with a solid testing range before coming up with their conclusion on things! I got all kinds of different trucks as well and the go to #1 is the K8s. I just can't break it and I've had it for roughly 16 months. Got all kinds of parts waiting to install but haven't broke anything yet! At this point I have to keep ride it out(no pun intended). I've been hesitant to grab the Xmaxx becus it might change my number 1 as well. But we'll see in due time! Subbed!
I have an xmaxx and I’m not impressed. I must gotten a Lemon. First run, tire glue came undone and tire foam flew out. Second run, steering servo gears ground to a halt. Now I didn’t bash it either as I was trying to warm up. It’s been sitting in my garage for a month.
Just got my first x-maxx 3 days ago but haven't run it yet (waiting on IC5 connectors). Been watching all the videos from talbot, duperbash, hardcore, etc trying to find stock trucks and what they can and can't take and after each one I think I made the right decision in selling my outcast 8s exb and getting the maxx. Can't wait to get it out and give it hell.
I like your approach to bash-testing. Great presentation and a relaxed pace indeed. Nice work! And thank you for your time making this one - that's a LOT of editing, eh? Cheers :)
I am fine with that but I hate the amount of work needed to build a roller. Because they don't tell you what kind of motor they recommend, they just tell you to use whatever so it is quite hard to find the perfect one to fit it.
Guess I am in the minority on this, I don't buy ANY rc to BEAT on it. That's not a form of enjoyment for me. Wrenching on them is cool, but when YOU intentionally cause the Wrenching 👎
Very well made and informative. Just what i needed to gather info. Thinking this might be my next rig next year. Just bought the mojave 6s also a very good rc. Nice to work on

Great 👍 video I have the x-Maxx and haven’t really taken out much but after watching this video I can’t to take out. One suggestion you might want to leave a link on where you purchased the upgrades
Crazy thing about the Xmaxx. There have been no consequential changes to it since its 8s debut, but it still beats the pack as an all rounder. I just got my 8s Kraton EXB roller and am still deciding on its build, but I'm really hoping to add an Xmaxx to my stable someday. What's stopping me is that I see it as a 1/5th scale truck with 1/6th scale electronics. I don't care that Traxxas calls it a 1/6th. It's measurements equal most 1/5th RCs. Yes it is a little lighter than most 1/5 RCs, but because it's about the same dimensions, it's rolling and spinning inertia is about the same too. If Traxxas ever releases a roller though, I'm on it. It's my #2 most wanted RC release, right after a 1/5th Mojave!
Great video. I will be upgrading the arms. Thanks for the heads up on those. The Only problem I have is that the servo's are crap and you really can't upgrade them (that I know of). Other than that I name mine The Beast for a reason. It is durable. But I'm still getting a Kraton
They do make an adapter that will allow you to use a standard servo in the Xmaxx. I don't have the part number, but I've seen them around. I would recommend looking around for that to solve the servo issue. Also, I would recommend the RPM hinge pins as well if you are going to switch out the arms. They lock the hub carriers in better and prevent pulling out upon hard landings. Happy Bashing. AJ
I picked one up for $600 on facebook marketplace, came with new tires, original tires, new body and an old beat up basher body, no batteries but i'll just run it on 6S till I can save up money to buy batteries for 8S, even thought I've seen many videos of people commenting they prefer to run theirs on 6S to keep part breakage and excessive wear down, what do you think? PS this videos was so well done I subbed!!
It's all about what you want out of your rig. Jumping, Bashing, pounding through the brush, Xmaxx for sure. Awesome fast realistic short course runs, UDR. They are both cool in their own ways. Try and get your hands on each of them at the hobby store and let your gut decide. If the car you pick thrills you, you have the right one. Best of luck on your decision, AJ
I’ve been bashing the Xmaxx and the v2 Kraton 8s for a comparison video and my opinion is the Kraton is better by far. Of course that’s not the outcast but car for car Arrma wins. I love the Xmaxx, don’t get me wrong, it’s a tough truck with a few upgrades. But the Kraton 8s was tough straight out of the box. It handles better, it’s faster, more stable, and flies way cool. Good luck choosing. AJ
Awesome vid man thanks for all the hard work.. ls there a EC5 - Traxxas jumper man? That would be awesome because l don't have a solder iron yet . If you know of one and have a part # would much appreciate that. I just signed up my friend. Great Bashing keep up the good work . Thanks
I don't know. Mine were shimmed just right, and were from the factory. Just lucky, I guess. And...not that I'm saying this is what you did, but it helps not to hit the ground under power. That's really hard on the drivetrain. Thanks for asking and I hope this helps. AJ
Love my xmaxx what are the steering linkages an do you have a link for them I just broke my third one on mine right out of the box I went with rpm hubs an a arms
Unfortunately, I don't have the link, but look for the description captured in the video of the part, and search that in Ebay. After that, it should be easy to find. Good luck. AJ
very cool and informative video..I'm confused between an Xmaxx and a notorious 6s..Basically looking for a fun performer..I would love to hear your quick thoughts out..:)
I would love to help you here, but I don’t have an 8s notorious yet. I can’t tell you the Xmaxx is big, fun, and a blast to play with, but I’ve heard the notorious is more stable but may require a few upgrades to make it durable. However, that’s kind of hearsay. I would recommend looking into both a bit more before choosing. I wish I could be more helpful. 😎👍
@@AJJAMStudios Thanks for your prompt response! No worries..I too have heard the notorious needs to be beefcaked with M2C parts to get it up for the "stunt" purpose,so wanted to check with you..Good day and once again, you're videos are great..!!
Read through all the comments and have to agree with them. This is a very fragile truck out of the box and thus not much fun untill you upgrade the servo, the hinge pins, the chipped spurs, the back of the body, broken arms, hub carriers, toe links, stock tires that always rip, etc. I understand that's the fun of the hobby, but as you mentioned these parts are the most expensive of any traxxas ever
We have been to 7 mile, but that doesn’t necessarily equate our location at the studio. It is a beautiful park to run in and we have from time to time, but that’s only when we are in the area. Thank you for the comment.😎👍
You haven’t had any issues with spur gears or pinion gears? I got mine a week ago and that’s the first thing that went but I ordered hardened steel ones so hopefully that will solve MY issue. Glad to see you like it though it really is a blast to play with!
No gearing issues so far. The only things I ran into were in the video. Perhaps I got lucky. I was hoping to get a few more issues, but the damn thing just wouldn't break. Tough truck now that it's been tuned up a bit to be sure. Thanks for the comment. AJ
I had a problem within 10 mins of the 1st run with the set screw coming loose on the pinion and backing out causing the pinion to separate. Not quite what your asking but thats the only issue I've had. When I got my 2nd one, I had to tighten that same set screw. Usually I go over everything with a new truck but didn't get the time with the 1st one. The 2nd one was loose enough to move the pinion on the motor shaft with a decent tug.
@@ryansimmons4342 IF you drill a small divot in the motor shaft it won't walk or spin, adding some blue loctite to the setscrew prevents it from backing out.
Kinda surprised the exb was ur number 1. Makes sense the xmaxx is better. Bigger the better if it holds up in ur case. Theres a lot of mix reviews on the xmaxx. Some burned their escs, motor sloppage, gear failures, alluminum hub snapping. Everyone has their experiences. To me my exb is my number 1. People say the mojave is the best and you need one. I dissagree. The problem with the Mojave is its unpredictable what it will do when it jumps. Breaking body posts is frustrating. Keep in ming the only breakages on my kraton after a year is only one sun gear and two rpm wing mounts(one mount snaps and the wing is just shaking arround) i think i bended one pin too and thats about it. The mojave i broke 2 sets of body posts i do everything i can to make them last. I boiled them drywall and shoe goo reinforced when they break i use fishing line to fix it but it reaches a point where you cannot keep doing that and just need to buy a new set. It doesnt “break” you can still running but running with no body post isnt possible. Im still trying to make it handle like it should i changed the oils and center diff settings. I wish i went for a notorious but i dont like the RTR vehicules of the 6s line
Crazy because I absolutely LOVE my mojave and I launch it on a regular the look and handling of that truck is second to none not saying your wrong I just never experienced anything you said I've litterly broke nothing and it's been bashed the way it moves through sand is insane how it rolls and is designed to almost always land back up its my favorite rc so far kranton 8s might be next or the 6s
I love your vids AJ....you are so helpful and thorough. I'm debating between the Xmaxx and the DBXL E and I'm having a very difficult time deciding. I love the looks and lower center of gravity of the Losi, but am torn between the durability, bashability, and low-cost parts of the Xmaxx. Your thoughts are welcome : ) Also, what brand batteries do you recommend?
They are both good. But, the DBXL-E is more durable that it looks. However, if you are into jumping and the like, the Xmaxx would be the way to go. The choice is yours. As far as batteries go, I like soft packs. Any reputable brand with significant weight to their batteries usually work. I do like Ovonics, but I have a lot of different brands, and most of them work just fine. I do lose the hard shell batteries a lot. I can’t really explain why that is, but it seems to happen a lot. A high C rating is always preferable. I hope this helps. 😎👍
@@AJJAMStudios Thanks a million! Your advice is (as always) incredibly helpful. Now that we are on the "C rating" topic, I noticed that Traxxas only offers up to a 25C for the Xmaxx. Do you know why that is? Can I go higher without an issue? Thanks again!
I do not understand that issue. I'm running 100c batteries, 60c, and 50c, all day long in mine, however, they are not Traxxas batteries. I converted mine to EC5 connectors to fit the rest of my stable of cars. And before you ask, this act voids the Traxxas warrantee, so I would think about it before you jump into switching. I've had no issues with my speed control or any other mechanical parts, other than the suspension issues you saw in the video. As far as that goes, remember, the space inside the Xmaxx is limited for batteries, and several of my larger batteries absolutely will not fit inside of it. Still, with the soft packs, I've been able to get 5000mah and 6000mah to fit, but not in the hard cases, at least, not my 6000mah batteries. So look closely and ask before you run out and buy batteries. Make sure they will actually fit inside your car before you purchase them. I hope this helps. AJ
@@AJJAMStudios AJ you are the man! Thanks again for your tremendously helpful advice. Can't thank you enough. Can't wait to get an XMaxx in the air with your battery recs👍👍
Don't forget the hub carrier upgrade for the rears. it will help keep things up and running longer. The best ones I've found so far come from RPM. They are tough, and usually won't break your hinge pins. AJ
Hi just gave you a sub. I’m totally new to all this, when you do a jump and it’s going to twist in the air, do you put the power on ? And if it’s looking level do you take your finger off the power Thanks Paul
Knowing when to throttle is something you have to learn for yourself. Each situation requires its own response. Throttle brings the front end up, causing backflip rotation, while braking lowers the front end of the car, giving front flip rotation. You have to learn to judge the situation and respond accordingly. It takes time to learn this skill, and repetition is ever the best teacher. I would recommend starting slowly, jumping small, low powered situations to get your balance. Run those jumps over and over until you build your reflexes up some before moving on to larger, longer jumps. Also, since you're new, remember to be off the throttle when you hit the ground or you risk tearing the rear diff to shreds. Gear issues are often caused by driver error and not manufacturer defects. So be careful until you get the hang of it. When I hit the ramps I usually relax the throttle when I hit the jump, this allows the car to get a flat trajectory more often that not. Then you have both throttle and brake to play with in the air. I hope this helps. Have fun bashing, AJ
Hey AJ, I know this video is a couple of years old. I remember you mentioning in another video you're in the PNW. I'm in north eastern Washington and was wondering where this bashing area is?
Fun fact, the Tie fighter sound was made from a 4 wheel truck with knobby tires on wet tarmac and modified with an elephant horn and mixed/retimed afterwards.
Rc guy garage hates it lol. Cant take one pack 😂. The body falls to pieces after a few bad landings on it. shoe goe is a must. The body is think like a 3s body from what i saw
That's sad. I've had so much better luck than that. You saw the footage, the thing is tough. But each car is unique. Plastic varies, the build quality changes from car to car, assembly is still done by hand at the factory, and so forth. I guess I got one of the good ones. 👍
Do you own a 1/5th EXB??? After I picked up my Arrma’s, my Xmaxx collects dust and I run my decked out 8s EXB. My 6s V2 Maxx is now on the back burner when I picked up the Talion EXB. Idk what it is about Traxxas that feels so... “RadioShack special” but, I need more speed, more of a machine feel to it and an aggressive look. I’ve even spent a lot of money on my traxxas rigs to get them (in my opinion) set up better than yours and still, I get that lackluster feeling compared to my EXB’s. Again, just my opinion... I would think you’d agree if you have a K8-O8 built how you like it...
1/5th RTR upgraded with the EXB materials. Love it. Love the Xmaxx too. I don't think one should have to choose. We take them both when we go. PS, the Kraton 8s is number one on our list while the Xmaxx is number three.
@@AJJAMStudios I’ve taken my Xmaxx out but it sat in the truck while my son and I broke Maxx’s and didn’t drive it. It’s too cold here so we didn’t even burn through a full pack
Just on the heavier tires, the issue isnt really that you're going to break more suspension arms, its the crown and pinion on the diffs that become a problem, they strip teeth waaaay more often when you run heavy wheels on it
Question for all, trouble deciding between the Traxxas maxx(wide maxx kit) or Arma Kraton 6s V5. Not really planning on bashing huge jumps. Mostly going to be on dirt mounds, grassy hills and parking lots. If it's the Kraton what mods do people recommend? Which is a better all around truck? Thank you for any help.
At this point it really is a matter of taste - so to speak. Traxxas or Arrma, the great question we've all asked ourselves at one point or another. As for me, I like them both. Bash hard enough and you'll break either one. Keep up on your maintenance and you'll extend your vehicle's life. What I'm trying to say is, they are both tough. They both could use a few mods, but they are not really required straight away. If you're not going to pound it off of ramps and such, I think either will suffice. I know that's not a lot of help, but, as always, the choice has to be yours. If you really want my advice, I would say go with your gut; that's always worked for me. Thanks for asking. AJ
For the Arrma 6s cars I use a single 4s or 6s battery. I hate stacking them. Plus it just seems to fit better. For the Maxx a single 4s will do. Thanks for asking. 😎👍
@@gabthefisherman5030 I did go with the 6s Kraton and I love it. It's so planted to the ground whipping it around. I just put a hot racing servo arm in today and I noticed that the servo flexes and moves now with steering. I need to get the metal servo housing right?
Only thing I'd add would be some better footage that includes commentary. It's great to understand what you're doing as the car hammers down a paddock, over a mound or launches off a ramp. Kevin Talbot is great at this, however you're a bit more chilled out and enjoy the style. Great work.
This is the location of the business that produces the apparel I use: www.dynamiteenterprises.com/ They have a great sense of what is important. Thanks for asking. 😎👍
If you like em big and heavy (where is this going😂)... mostly made of plastic that can't take bigger pinion and a truck that is so slow it can't get out of its own way... -this is the basher you been waiting for😂✌️💙
Your statement is incorrect. I am not the “only” one out there who favors RPM arms. However, the stock arms are tough, but suffer more in lower temps. Thanks for the comment.
Upgrades necessary. That sounds about right. Big is awesome, but usually costs more in the long run. Still, Bash em anyway. Fun is where you find it. 😎👍
Sure it is. This is not an unboxing video, it's a brutal review. Upgrades are the name of the game. This truck is now a lot tougher than it was from the factory, and thus, more durable. Thanks for the comment. 😎👍
I spend my money carefully and don’t deliberately throw it away trying to destroy my vehicles everyone who does this just to see how much abuse it will take before it breaks is a fool 🥴
I suppose that depends upon your point of view. We like working on them as much as driving them, so for us it is only part of the hobby. Still, it is funny how you think we're foolish when we are simply enjoying the hobby as we see fit. Thanks for commenting. 😎👍
Think your videos are great, but pls kill the heavy metal music when u run the car or in videos. It’s why I really don’t subscribe to a lot of these rc channels.. or watch them once I hear that.

If Traxxas ever releases a roller though, I'm on it. It's my #2 most wanted RC release, right after a 1/5th Mojave!
A 1/5th scale Mojave would be awesome. Thanks for commenting 😎👍
Can't decide between this or a Traxxas UDR...
Quality vid and channel dude !!!! Gotta make a big decision…….. it’s between this xmaxx and the outcast exb 8s ….. I’m swaying towards the arrma !!!!
AJ
The radio transmitter doesn’t have a gyro in it. The receiver on the truck does.
Awesome vid man thanks for all the hard work.. ls there a EC5 - Traxxas jumper man? That would be awesome because l don't have a solder iron yet . If you know of one and have a part # would much appreciate that. I just signed up my friend. Great Bashing keep up the good work . Thanks
Thank you. But no, I had to build my own adapter for EC5 connection. Best of luck. AJ 😎👍
Hay my man there cheep as hell couple dollers👍
Awesome video, Xmaxx is just the ultimate Basher, Love it 😁👍
Thank you. 😎👍
@@AJJAMStudios Are you in Spokane?
I’ve been there.
How did you not break the gears. Mine broke after a few jumps.
Good luck. AJ
AJ, curious to know, have you updated the servo, or are you still running the stock one? Thanks
We’re still on the stock one. Thanks for asking 😎👍
I always wondering what happened to Garth after Wayne’s world…good to see he’s doing well. Party on Garth 🤘
very cool and informative video..I'm confused between an Xmaxx and a notorious 6s..Basically looking for a fun performer..I would love to hear your quick thoughts out..:)
Where was this filmed?!! Looks like 7-mile ORV park no?? Thats where I bash my 8s sometimes (and my real truck)!!
They can be stupid expensive, that is true, but they don't have to be. Still, for each person there is a favorite. I hope you find yours.
My question about the XMAXX
Do you need to put 2 4s batteries or can it run on 4s?
7 mile ORV in Spokane wa? Thought I seen a zombie in the background TWD fan. Nice vid thanks for the post
I would like to see you do a review of the Red Cat, Shredder. One of my favorite trucks. Been tough as nails for me
Noted!
The shredder was my first hobby grade Rc since the 80's. The shredder made me love rc again! It will never get it's do. 👎

All good info. Thank you. 😎👍
I want one ...but want it go faster how do I make it faster I'm new to this
The Xmaxx comes with a speed gear. We just don’t use it. Thanks for asking 😎👍
You need to get the outcast 8s! I think you'd love it! It would be a good truck to add to the collection!
Maybe one day!
I’m just getting into rc cars I’m a subscriber
Awesome. Welcome to a great hobby. 😎👍
Where did you get the steering links?
Why such low subscriber count? Subscribed.
It’s a new channel. I think the count is growing pretty good. Thanks for the subscribe. 😎👍
And if it’s looking level do you take your finger off the power
Thanks
Paul
@@AJJAMStudios thank you very much. That’s great

Hey AJ, I know this video is a couple of years old. I remember you mentioning in another video you're in the PNW. I'm in north eastern Washington and was wondering where this bashing area is?
Every now and then we swing by an ORV park to bash when we are in that area. This one is called 7 mile.
@AJJAMStudios thank you! I'm on the other side of the county in Liberty Lake, but this looks like a great spot on the map!
If you close your eyes it almost sounds like a TIE fighter.
I like it. 😎👍
Fun fact, the Tie fighter sound was made from a 4 wheel truck with knobby tires on wet tarmac and modified with an elephant horn and mixed/retimed afterwards.
@@shaunvx7102 if the sound of a tie fighter does not play thru your head as you read that, you’re not my people. Lol
That sweet rig is 1526$ to the door here in Canada, would you still pay what we do and get one?
If I had the money to spare I would, but if I was on a budget I would have to think about it. 😎👍

Just on the heavier tires, the issue isnt really that you're going to break more suspension arms, its the crown and pinion on the diffs that become a problem, they strip teeth waaaay more often when you run heavy wheels on it
Agreed. The heavier components take a toll on everything connected to the drive train. Thanks for commenting. AJ
Xmaxx sucks. Nikko and tyco way better. But your review was awesome and you’re cool!! Genuine great review man you’re awesome

AJ
@@AJJAMStudios thank you for advice. What about batteries, one 6s or 2 3s? Which ones do guys/gals recommend, and I'll need a charger too.
For the Arrma 6s cars I use a single 4s or 6s battery. I hate stacking them. Plus it just seems to fit better. For the Maxx a single 4s will do. Thanks for asking. 😎👍
I hope its not too late but GET THE kraton 6s.You will never look back and never touch a traxxas ever again
Great work.

You are literally the only UA-camr claiming the RPM arms are more durable than stock. The general consensus is that stock arms are better.
Your statement is incorrect. I am not the “only” one out there who favors RPM arms. However, the stock arms are tough, but suffer more in lower temps. Thanks for the comment.
