I recall reading a soldier's diary about this battle. He wrote that the shelling was so intense, a tree would be blasted into the air, and just as it is coming back to the earth, another shell would hit and send the tree back into the air before hitting the ground. This would repeat itself, two, three, even four times.

Until he decided to become a puppet of Germany. I know he wanted to preserve France with Fascism, but he should've ruled France under French terms, not German. Sad that he became a traitor, but I still admire the man for what he did for his country during the 1910's.

Inigo Villanueva He did what he had to do to preserve the french people from hard repression by the germans. Many see him as a traitor, but a smart stateman entitled with general decision over the populace would have done the same thing : collaborate. It was the 300 000 jew or the millions of french, it's sad and discusting to write, but it's the dark truth. He was too smart of a man to risk and face openly the jerries, and any distrust felt by them toward Vichy brought to violence toward the french people.

They really couldn’t. If you refused to go over the top during a raid or charge officers would shoot you on the spot. It was also common for officers to shoot men who turned to run back towards friendly trenches. There’s even instances of men who had by mistake been separated from their division and were labeled deserters and executed, men who had simply gotten lost in the chaos of war! Your options back then we’re either die at the hands of the enemy or by your own soldiers

The Nazy Party wasn't a thing that Hitler created, but joined. He merely make that party powerfull enough to get power of a nation.
And truth be told, it's "thanks" to Hitler that nowadays, we don't want to put civilians in war casualties. And it's also "thanks" to him that there's now borders to not cross when two countries are at wars. If Hitler died in Wolrd War I, I don't think that would be so great than everyone think.
It's sad to say it, but "thanks to" what Hitler has done, it opens Humanity Eye's on how a war should be.

    • @robertsteiner4696

It's sad isn't it? I mean....there were no good guys, no bad guys, just....just killing the other man because he spoke a different language and because he wore a different uniform. That was it. I mean when you read the Journals of soldiers from both sides from that war it's just depressing.

    • @kevinlobjois5110

One thing even stranger, that I've learn recently thanks to one of my friend:
Thanks to all the nazi's research on medicine, and thans to their human experimentation, we can, in 10 years, save more people than the nazis kill in the same lapse of time.
I'm not saying that the end justifies the means, but it's even more strange and sad to say that, if Hitler hadn't get power, we wouldn't have what we have nowadays.
And that's what really, really sad to say, but Hitler coming to power was maybe the "best" thing that could have happened at the time, for all the worse thing that we could have get if he hadn't take control of the Nazis Parti.

Sadly, it seems like it would've been better if the allies lost. A central powers victory will mean no Treaty of Versailles, so no World War II, cause the monarchs will still be in power. I love France, but I confess, It would have been better off if France was defeated. 73 million people wouldn't die, and Empire's will keep their empires (for a longer time).

    • @willbar3222

The medical research the Nazis conducted was pretty much useless apart from the reserch into hypothermia. They made progress into the understanding of how to recover from hypothermia but it wasn't ground breaking to be honest. It was debated after the war as to whether it was valid research due to the fact that the people that subjects were not healthy and the obvious horrific lack of any ethics involved.
Although, their research into smoking was well ahead of it's time.

I like how you seem to make BF1 gameplay almost movie-like, but don't play like some super soldier Rambo gunning down thousands of enemies, but make the gameplay look like you're just another average soldier in the conflict. I'm here just to tell you a story :
I live not for from Verdun , and it's amazing going there sometimes. The landscape looks like a doomed sea, with holes , sometimes 20 meters deep. You feel very tiny besides them.
In 1916, French Poilus were "prepared" in Verdun. In fact , Alsace-Moselle were germans (today french territory). So, people who lived in those region were enrolled in the german army. Before Verdun, many alsatians deserter from the german army, who spoke french and german, went to the french commandment to tell something big was preparing. German thought Verdun was the weakest point of the french Defense, they were wrong.
