I recall reading a soldier's diary about this battle. He wrote that the shelling was so intense, a tree would be blasted into the air, and just as it is coming back to the earth, another shell would hit and send the tree back into the air before hitting the ground. This would repeat itself, two, three, even four times.

One thing even stranger, that I've learn recently thanks to one of my friend: Thanks to all the nazi's research on medicine, and thans to their human experimentation, we can, in 10 years, save more people than the nazis kill in the same lapse of time. I'm not saying that the end justifies the means, but it's even more strange and sad to say that, if Hitler hadn't get power, we wouldn't have what we have nowadays. And that's what really, really sad to say, but Hitler coming to power was maybe the "best" thing that could have happened at the time, for all the worse thing that we could have get if he hadn't take control of the Nazis Parti.
Sadly, it seems like it would've been better if the allies lost. A central powers victory will mean no Treaty of Versailles, so no World War II, cause the monarchs will still be in power.
Respect.

For an avid reader of WW1 and especially Verdun, this game is an incredible achievement. In the right mind state, you feel that you are there visually. You don't feel the strain of the event or the smell of something that is a churned up mixture men, trees, roads, horses, dirt, metal, all taking place of the ground beneath your feet.
It’s realistic if you are fast because if your in an adrenaline rush, fire and explosions all around you thinking if your too slow you’ll die your gunna be bolting.

I really like how sometimes in this game on Operations your team can just be stuck on a point because of the enemies constant motor strikes and mustard gas. Everything is so loud and all you hear are explosions, gun shots, and screaming as everything around you is shaking. This game gets really intense at times and I have no idea how these brave young men got through this war.
Yep I play operations regularly and sometimes our team gets stuck on a point because the enemy team are defending it so well, constant artillery, grenades, etc.
I was able to walk the trenches of Verdun on the 100 year anniversary. Watching this brings to me to tears thinking about what happened so long ago. Je suis fier. Vive la France.
The German objective was to kill as many French as possible, not to invade. So the Germans won the battle looking at their objective, but the French objective was to defend Verdun, the Verdun that was actually targeted to be ravaged, not pierced.
Whereas most other youtube videos about BF1 focus on game features, and basic WWI history, your videos are like the youtube version of "All Quiet on The Western Front" or something. I like how you seem to make BF1 gameplay almost movie-like, but don't play like some super soldier Rambo gunning down thousands of enemies, but make the gameplay look like you're just another average soldier in the conflict. Hell, some of your gameplay seems more realistic then the BF1 campaign. Props to you! edit: I laughed my ass off when I looked at the info box and it said the game was "Verdun"

Teacher: Ok class we're going on a trip to Verdun, France. Girls: OMG! I love France I hope I can see some cute boys there! Boys: This is Verdun. Here... They shall not pass!
One of the things Battlefield 1 excelled at was creating a chaotic, nightmarish, almost apocalyptic atmosphere in it's maps. That image of the entire forest skyline burning sticks in your head. To a young man in 1916 at the Battle of Verdun, it must have seemed like the world was ending.
Petain here: leads France to victory and demonstrates pure strength and resolve of the French people Petain 24 years later: I am gonna do what's called a pro-gamer move
I'm here just to tell you a story : I live not for from Verdun , and it's amazing going there sometimes. The landscape looks like a doomed sea, with holes , sometimes 20 meters deep. You feel very tiny besides them. In 1916, French Poilus were "prepared" in Verdun. In fact , Alsace-Moselle were germans (today french territory). So, people who lived in those region were enrolled in the german army. Before Verdun, many alsatians deserter from the german army, who spoke french and german, went to the french commandment to tell something big was preparing. German thought Verdun was the weakest point of the french Defense, they were wrong.
6 years later I appreciate your work putting this together. With the names. Beautiful touch had the same idea right before I watched this video. So cool.
end oh yeah right sitting in trenches with only bolt-action rifles is so much fun right? Oh wait how about this: artillery is coming right at you and also gas and you have no way of surviving it. Battlefield 1 is not a war simulator you muppet its a game
We just finished learning about World War 1 in History, and I already knew many things, which was awesome. My favorite and most fascinating unit of the year so far.
Coming from a british person (suprisingly) the french are badass. In WW2, not so much, until the french resistance. Napoleon, george clemenceau etc. WW1 they fought crazily for the protection of their country.
Obito Uchiha they could add bots into the game since bf1 and star wars battlefront share the same engine. Dice could possibly add a mode similar to skirmish like they did in battlefront
Love the gameplay videos, they are amazing. And to everyone bitching that the running around, quick movement and shooting is not historically accurate, the very first battles of the war from the initial German advance up and till the race to the sea was all fast moving as you see here. It was only when the two sides were unable to turn each others flanks at the sea that defensive trenches became the main feature, and that’s just the western front. The war against the Turkish in the Middle East the allies rarely ever used trenches (apart from Gallipoli). Although Verdun was mostly a trench v trench battle I am willing for the makers of the game to take a creative liberty to make the game more interesting. It’s is often a difficult line to draw but here for me it does make sense
People always talk about the physical aspects, but the psychological ones go unnoticed. For example, Shell Shock( a subsidiary of PTSD in World War 1 before it was termed) Soldiers would literally being bombed thousand upon thousands of times trying to sleep surrounded by bacteria infected water with mud that smelled to high hell and rats scavenging for the sometimes poor quality food they were provided. The soldiers experiencing it would be in a trance like state, often not responsive, with a devilish look in their face. It was truly astonishing what war does to the human body. Those soldiers, will never be forgotten in my heart.
My grandfather's dad was awarded the iron cross 2nd class during the battle of verdun. I have it at home and was always wondering what he had to do to get it. In civilian life he was a butcher, i bet in verdun too. France is one of my favorite travel destinations, wonderful country, great culture, cool people. I wished my ancestor(s) could have experienced it like me.
This map is easily in my top 5, maybe top 3 maps. Just today I was playing on this map and I remember holding B with a few other people on the German side. Pretty much all of the French were rushing through this one gap. Me and my friend were running MGs, I think it was the Parabellum or however it's spelled, and we were mowing down pretty much all them. Eventually, someone decided to try and kill us with a field gun, but they missed and hit a tree behind us, which fell and somehow blocked a sniper shot. We left and killed the sniper, then used his position to mow down even more French. And then one of the admins decided to force switch us to that city map, which I hate because it's so easy to spawn camp. Oh well, at least I had my fun
Before you make your videos, I always imagine you sitting down by your work desk, reading a book called "Names around the World" ,and writing down the names you chose on a small piece of paper.
5Ratar 45 there's a fun fact about this game though, during the first play through they actually used real soldiers name from WW1 but not the birth date.

No verdun involves sitting on your ass forever and that’s no fun people play battlefield for instant action
DocDum they might actually win defense if they weren't doing that.
I can't tell you how many garbage teams I've been put on. Full of people who can't comprehend the reason shit descended into trench warfare.

@Saying N*igro Makes UA-cam Cry not in multiplayer though, so he edited these in
I’d like to confirm that these were edited for the intentions of the devastation during the First Wold War and reference to the prologue mission in the game. :)
From the variety of BF1 immersion videos, it seems the game inspires respect and a somber acknowledgement of the horrors of war and the devastating cruelty a man can unleash upon another

I like it how they made it so when you die in the game you don’t re spawn as the same character. It makes the whole ww1 experience much more realistic

This game would be 10x more realistic if the movement speed wasn't so fast

I really like how sometimes in this game on Operations your team can just be stuck on a point because of the enemies constant motor strikes and mustard gas. Everything is so loud and all you hear are explosions, gun shots, and screaming as everything around you is shaking. This game gets really intense at times and I have no idea how these brave young men got through this war.
Yep I play operations regularly and sometimes our team gets stuck on a point because the enemy team are defending it so well, constant artillery, grenades, etc.
I was able to walk the trenches of Verdun on the 100 year anniversary.

The German objective was to kill as many French as possible, not to invade. So the Germans won the battle looking at their objective, but the French objective was to defend Verdun, the Verdun that was actually targeted to be ravaged, not pierced.
Man, putting in the names of soldiers after each time you die is a great detail, this video is on another level!
2:15 INCOMING!!!

I mean, it is more like a "Definition of horror and fear in 12 minutes". But I agree, the video is well-made and deserves lots of recognition.

I live not for from Verdun , and it's amazing going there sometimes.

My grand grand father fought in Verdun, he was a French Machinegunner...
