- In this episode of Alternative dwellings Sue shows us her awesome Chevy G20 van that she built out to fit her needs. She started by taking everything out, finishing the ceiling and then she built out the kitchen, bed frame and bathroom.

I had an 82' aviator
This lady is easy to listen to and did a wonderful job on her older van. Love her rattan on her doors. I also will use leather on useful places. I clean a lady's boot shop and she has scraps that would work great. She is a world wide boot maker and I think I'll suggest to her that she might love to build out a nice van. I am building out an old cargo trailer , but for speed, I can be compared to molasses. Happy to meet her. Thanks

I laughed when you said some people were ‘ewe’ about having a toilet in the van. I think the same when people don’t have one. I wonder where they ‘go’ when they’re out camping…lol…
I think the curtains look airy, but honestly my first reaction was, oh no, she doesn’t have any privacy. I get concerned. I’m glad you have the window covers. I hope that includes all 3 front ones.

Ha ha... My Dad even said "right behind the driver????" lol I do have window covers for all windows. They work quite well for privacy.

really cozy build, one suggestion i would either put holes in wood holding mattress or sone thing under mattress
I did drill big holes in the wood base (except over the small compartment). If i was to do it again, I would consider slats. I also lift it in the winter for storage. No problems yet. 🤞

Love the van, and if people comment about the toilet, have never really camped. Sad that they would say something like that. It is just part of life.

I think the place you have in your van looks very cute and homey. I'm impressed but no longer surprised that women take to the tasks of building out their van when they've never had any experience. Of course, a woman can figure it out! Why not?😊
What I'm also amazed at are the remarks a van person gets from others. Instead of someone appreciating a neat setup, they say something disparaging like Why'd you put a toilet in your van? Or, as another van lifer was asked, What do you do all day? Some people can't even pretend to have manners and just be polite anymore? Good luck with all your travels👍!
