I met an old soldier on my last trip to England, and he said she had the most amazing eyes. I thought he was talking about Diana, but he corrected me. Apparently Princess Margaret’s eye color rivaled that of Elizabeth Taylor’s.
@@YaYa-ke1zryes my dad saw her in the 1950s and said she was the most beautiful woman he'd seen. I saw Queen Elizabeth in the 1990s and she had fabulous skin and eyes.
Not all dead. Some who were children or teenagers at the time will be in their late 80s or 90s. The Queen herself famously went out in that crowd and she only died recently!
She’s the spitting image of her father. Wonderful interview that just shows how the wonderful sense of humour and personality was shared by the Queen and the princess.
She sound so much like the queen! I love how well spoken she is. I could not imagine having lived through WWII. The closeness of her with her parents and sister is so obvious and I am glad they had each other to lean on!
This certainly showed a different side of Princess Margaret than all the tabloids ever showed and talked about, showed her as a much more caring person. Her love for her parents was so obvious. She did sound quite a bit like her sister. I don't remember ever hearing her voice before.
I was thinking the very same. I don't think I had ever heard Princess Margaret speak before. And, you're so right, this shows her in a completely different light from what the rubbish that the gossip mags printed. She really comes across as being very caring and concerned.
Princess Margaret visited Plymouth in the 70's. A very nice police officer took me into the middle of the main road, where I could video her as she went by. She gave a wave and a smile. Princess Margaret was a beautiful looking young woman.
it's so heartwarming to see how much their little family loved each other in their own bubble despite the life they lived. you can see it in her eyes and when she talks about her dad
What strikes me the most about this interview is how much Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret resembles Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. I did not see much resemblance between them when they were young women, but as older women it seems so much more obvious in their speech, in their smiles and in their humor.
To me she looks a lot like Princess Anne here. Funny how children can resemble their aunts and uncles almost more than their own parents at times - just different traits expressing themselves.
I think Princess Anne is a lot like her late Aunt Princess Margaret. I say this not meaning she’s not like her mother the Queen only that she has the rebellious side of the late Princess.
It was such a shame that H.R.H Princess Margaret went in the end in 2002 the same year as her Mother at the age of 71 and the Queen Mother was a 101 and now the Queen is Reunighted with H.R.H Prince Philip and the rest of her family
I love how well spoken and intelligent she was. She used the phrase "vicarious nerves", in reference to the feeling she got when her father was giving a speech, as if it just rolled off her tongue. Wonderful.
She was exceptionally intelligent. Her friends have said that she always resented the lack of education she got as a child, in comparison to her sister who was taught extensively.
That’s just how that generation spoke, and that applies to every language. People used to have a much larger vocabulary than the current generations. Whenever I’m with my grandmother I’m reminded of words that have fallen into disuse, like the word “disuse” lol I’m Portuguese and we have the same word, spelled “desuso”. Having said that though, vicarious is not exactly the fanciest word; there’s that expression “to live vicariously through someone”. Anyone that is not a simpleton knows that saying and can determine the meaning of the word “vicarious” through the adverb and its context in that saying. I’m not even a native English speaker and I know it, so it’s hardly upper English.
@@heucatia Hi, native English speaker here (also with degrees in English). I grew up in the UK and have mingled across different social groups all my life due to how I was raised. 'Vicarious' isn't a word that is normally used by everyday working class lay people - unfortunately there are a lot more 'simpletons' in the anglophone world than you think! Especially these days when more people prefer to pick up a phone than to read a book.
Glad to see this video.. shows a side of Princess Margaret not a lot of people got to see.. she was genuine and charming and most pleasant - she seemed to revel in the memories.
She was a strikingly beautiful and vivacious spirit and try as they might, they couldn’t bend her to their will for most of her active life. I would have loved to have her as a friend! :)
You can tell how dearly she loved her father The King. What a lovely smile. RIP King George VI RIP Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother RIP Princess Margaret RIP The Duke of Edinburgh
Sad. Most articles say she was Cold, Indifferent or plain Rude. I don't get that about her at all in this interview. In fact, she smiles a lot and seems to carry the conversation. Which is a Reporters dream. In fact Prince (King) Charles once commented what a delightful gift she had to make everyone laugh. Maybe all that crap was just made up to sell papers....RIP Princess Margaret.
It is quite possible she was rude or not easy to live with. But I don't see them as different from us at all. They all got a great education as royals they were supposed to behave as such. But I understand if she wasn't that nice with regular people. Princess Anne is the same. She doesn't shake her subjects hands, ever. But I understand her reasons. Meanwhile, her uncle and ex king Edward VIII shakes so many hands that he has to change it to lefty because it hurts, lol. He would be a great king if he wasn't getting too close to Hitler. He had other ideas for Britain at that time.
This was a very important interview. As the Queen did not give interviews this shows a lot of information from a Royal child’s perspective of an insane and war torn time.
If only she had lived a much longer life like her late mother HM Queen Elizabeth (RIP), her late brother-in-law Prince Philip (RIP). The Queen would have really enjoyed her support and humour right now. RIP HM Princess Margaret. God Bless. My darling late mother born in October of 1930 in England was also named Margaret, after the late princess. God Bless you too Mummy.
Margaret had a lovely warmth and sparkle about her. You can really sense that the "grooming" invested into her was much lower than would have been for Elizabeth, being the heiress. Consequently she seemed immediately much more relatable to us ordinary rank and file folk. You get the same sort of sense from Prince Edward today.
Her close friends all said she was quite grand and rather short tempered and haughty. But she could be quite a lot of fun, too. She played the piano and sang popular songs of the day. But she drank and smokes endlessly.
I hate how in The Crown, Princess Margaret is portrayed as resentful of the Queen, and as if they were barely friends as adults, when in real life it was the absolute opposite.
When you see this, you realise how very little footage there is where you can see Margaret and hear her speak at some length. She is very like the Queen here, in looks and voice.
I remember while growing up I used to think Margaret looked very intimidating. This is the first time I’ve heard her speak and she sounds like she was a lot of fun to be around. I see a resemblance in them as kids and adults! But I can see the difference too! I know which one was Margaret, and which one was the queen! Even before the queen got the throne, I can tell the difference. They were beautiful, especially when they were young! And had class, I guess they should have. They were royalty. Margareth was a very very beautiful woman!!!!!!!!!! When she was young she looked like a pin up model of the '50s
Agreed, however her behaviour was another matter.
