    I like Dylan's new strategy in colonist is by judging which players to focus on by their winrates.
    Its so BM but the trash talk is too funny

    Love that you're back making videos consistently! You're the best.
    Can I make one observation? It seems like these days you speak much more frantically than before. I know you're on stream and under time pressure so that could be partially why. But you might consider trying to calm it down a little. I personally find the franticness kind of stress inducing and not quite as enjoyable to watch. Excitement is good, but there's a difference between being excited and being frantic. Also sometimes streamers repeat the same sentence multiple times in a row which can also get mildly annoying, especially if it's frantic. I find 5-10 minutes of daily mindfulness meditation helps.
    I remember you mentioning ADHD and adderall in previous videos so my suggestions here might not be something you have control over in which case no worries.
    This is all just my two sense, you're still making the best content around. I learn a ton and it's fun to watch. Cheers man, looking forward to the next one as always.
    PS I'm close to Diamond and thought I was good, thanks for humbling me lol.

    How about city up the 6 brick instead of the 4 11 to get some brick to cut off orange from road (or even blue with 4 roads), because you were a bit lucky getting road in the end, usually one of them would have taken it, if they played better.

    You probably can't get very high on the leaderboard without being good, its just that 444 in the world is not very high. Looking only at win rate is also misleading, as there are people very low on the leaderboard that have relatively high win rates because they play weak opponents.
    In previous seasons they had an issue where if you did very well on the first 10 placement matched you got an MMR so high that you could just not play for the rest of the season and still finish in the top 10. They changed it now so the new system does reward active players to some extent, but you still can't get very high just by playing a lot. I've played with most of the players you can see at the top of the leaderboard (I myself am 11th there at the time of this video), and they are all competent players.

    • @Hnuisqt
      @Hnuisqt Рік тому +2

      It is interesting because in most systems the more you play the more your winrate approaches average (in this case 25). Better players will often have inflated winrates because they beat more lower skill players before their rank matches their skill, but their winrate will still approach average (unless lobbies that reflect their skill level can’t be created). The highest ranked people also tend to play a lot more which makes their winrate come down faster once they reach their true rank. In league a gold player who starts in silver might have the same 60% winrate as the rank 1 player.
      Never played ranked Catan before, but that is my perspective from other skill-based match making games.

      @@Hnuisqt
      You are absolutely correct - if all works well the more you play the more you should reach your appropriate rank, play against players on your own level, and your win rate should approach 25%. This logic only breaks when it's impossible to assemble a lobby of people on your level, which happens a lot when you're at the very top or very bottom of the gaussian distribution of skill.
      And this is why Dylan is wrong when he says "this guy's ranking is not indicative of his skill. He's only ranked high because he plays a lot." The fact that he plays a lot means that his ranking is very indicative of his skill. The reason that he doesn't seem skillful to Dylan is because there is a big skill gap between rank 444 and rank 32. This shouldn't surprise anyone who ever watched a tennis match between the guy ranked in the top 50 in the world and the guy at the bottom of the top 500.

    10:30 bro poker is the exact same way. I was at a tournament circuit and made it to the final table of a 400 dollar buy in with 600 entrants. Even on the last day ppl were getting tilted off of the most random things (sometimes deserved tho). An example - this old dude flopped the nut straight with a deep stack and checks it to the short stack preflop aggressor who shoves. He then takes 10 FUCKING MINUTES TO CALL. The whole table was mad when he showed he had the straight lmfao.

    Amazing job and well played! I'm curious, why didn't you port for a city at 18:47? Could have dropped it on the 6-12-11 and taken the focus away from your 9 Ore as well as drastically increasing production for potential road building and wheat.

    I stop judging people so much based on their win percentage because private and casual games and all other game modes count toward that percent. It’s very inaccurate when I would play with my friends who are much less experience I would win all the time so my win percent was like 50 something percent for a long time end it showed that during rank games.

    in 19:00 he could have 3:1 his wood for an ore and wheat to make a city, altough i dont know if it was the best play (i just feel like the dev wasnt that good for him, specially if he didnt get a vp and got a knigth or year plenty instead)

      I think another city would've made him a massive target when he would still be 3 points from the win. Those 3 points would be very difficult to get with no settlements to city, and everyone robbing him.

    First hello you are the best catan player ever!

  • @brycepowell6639
    @brycepowell6639 Рік тому

    I usually tell people at the start of the game if they rob me unjustly I will make sure they lose. Since catan is a game of winner take all, they wont rob me since thye know their outcome will be losing. Its simply strategy, nothing else. Sometimes the best play long term to win games is to do something that lowers win percentage in the current game. Especially if you play against the same opponents.
    One time someone cut me off to a position that didnt help them, my game was over, therefore my best strategy is to now throw and make sure they lose. By them seeing I am capable of that the net game they will think twice about cutting me off. This has come up multiple times ni back to back ranked games. Lost the first and won the second because my same oppponent literally said he didnt want to cut me off based on what I had done the previous game.
    I get it is no fun, but i play to win longterm. just strategy.
