I was once looking at the weather stations on Weather Underground and noticed that the nearest station was coming from someone's house on the map. I assumed some companies were making weather sensors for public use but I never expected them to be so cheap and easy to use like this. I live in an apartment building unfortunately but I would drop $150 so fast for one of these if I had a house. I would also get high quality webcams to go with it for live weather feed.
Hi. I'm looking at this station to get an average wind speed reading for the next 12 months, to see if we have enough wind to justify installing a small wind turbine. Can you you see, daily, monthly and yearly wind speed data such as averages and data graphs with this unit or through the web application?
Hi Vito, There is no web application or any other integration with this model so all readings would have to be read from the screen and recorded manually. Regards Dave
I have a 14yr old autistic son who is obsessed with the weather and he wants something like this on the side of the shed so he can fill in a spread sheet with the windspeed and temp. Would this be good for him
Hi Justin, I don’t know the specifics of your son’s autism, but I imagine he would love this. The external part of the weather station is quite visual and he may be interested in trying to work out how the rain meter works (it’s quite a simple mechanical mechanism). It records lots of other information so as he gets more into it then he could also start tracking things like rainfall, humidity and barometric pressure. Lots of learning opportunities if your son is interested in weather. Also after mentioning your question to a family friend (an adult) with autism another thing that you, as a parent, may be particularly interested in is that the unit automatically keeps the past 24 hours recordings. You may find this avoids problems if your son’s usual weather reading time conflicts with some other event. Hope that helps and if you do decide to get it that your son enjoys the weather station. Dave
@DTSquared bit of a 4yr update for you. My son has now started university and is studying Meteorology, climate and maths. His end goal is to work for an organisation like the metoffice. Mainly down to watching this video and buying this product. So a big thank you for for getting him on this path just by uploading this video.
Thankyou. The batteries in the outdoor unit are still going after seven months (though it is worth noting that the unit has been inside for that time and it has also been summer so may not last as well thru winter outside.) The batteries in the display panel have just been changed about a month or so back so I would guess they will last about five to six months. (P.S. As I recall I only used cheap/standard batteries.) Hope that helps.
@@DTSquared thank you so much! Yeah that's great to know, so with some lithium batteries I should get over to few years if they say that the capacity is 8x the standart AA battery. There are some stations even with small fotovoltaic panel but more expensive, so with the price difference i can get batteries for 20 years run :) the ecological footprint is another thing of course but who knows how well perform those with the PV panel? ... Anyway , thank you a lot and I wish you a pleasant day.
Good presentation! Is it capable of providing me with an Excel spreadsheet of all the variables? I'd like to put a weather station on my shed and see the past year's weather, at the smallest time intervals possible. I've seen online that it is possible to upload home weather station data to the Met Office with their 'WOW' website; does this weather station have internet capability?
Unfortunately no as far as I can tell the weather station display unit has no connectivity such as USB etc. I was recently thinking a similar thing as I'd like to collect the weather data while we are away to log against solar power collection. From some brief research I think there are a few with computer connectivity but they tend to be quite a bit more expensive. (it was only a brief look tho).
Hi Dave, just subscribed. I have a weather station very similar to this (for the bonsai trees) but branded "Sainlogic" from Amazon.es. very happy with it. My guess is they are all made by one manufacturer and sold under many different brands. Cheers from Madrid 👍🏻
Yes there's a lot of weather stations (and other Chinese products) out there which are effectively identical. I suspect some are rebranded and others are buying exactly the same components and assembling them. (Also sub'd, will now have to go and buy a bonsai :-) )
Jeff Smith Thanks that’s very kind of you. I haven’t mounted it on the van yet as lockdown got in the way and whilst we have managed to get away since (see other videos) other things stopped me mounting it. ( A shame as we had some gales which would have been interesting to record.) We are going away again and I plan to get the mount sorted for that trip and hopefully do a follow up video.
@@DTSquared It will be interesting to see how the caravan mount works out. I am considering the Bressner or a similar offering from Youshiko. Did you look at their models at all?
I did look briefly at the Youshiko and whilst I can't remember for certain I think the main decision at the time was the price as, from the images at least, several of their models are identical. The similar Youshiko model on Amazon at the moment states that it is the "Official UK Version" but I think #(could be wrong) that only really impacts which time signal it uses. (oh and at the moment the Youshiko is £99.99 vs £67.99 for the Bresser)
@@DTSquared Thanks again for the reply. I am considering options, but just a bit worried that I don't have a suitable place to locate a station. Not too near the house, not under trees, somewhere where I can change the batteries ... It is tricky!
Hi Jeff, it took a while because of . . . you know what. But I've finally made a video of fitting it to the caravan ua-cam.com/video/XNpcmfWRIcI/v-deo.html
Hi Johnothon, I haven't tried the 5 in 1 comfort but from what I've seen the outdoor sensor looks to be the same so the main difference is in the base sensor screen. From what I can see it is potentially an improvement as the screen of the older model I reviewed is a bit more cluttered in layout and also (as mentioned in the review I think) a little lacking in viewing angles. That said the comfort model could have similar issues or be much better, it's impossible to tell from the product photos. Hope that helps. Dave
My grandparents have this clock! It's so cool!
Excellent video, great editing.
Lynall Lynall Thanks glad you liked it that means a lot. Hope it was helpful to you.
