    I feel a sense of accomplishment, not because I changed my engine oil (though I will in the next week), but because I'm finally all caught up on watching your videos. Spent the last couple of months watching the last 3 years worth! Just finished the boating season down here on the Chesapeake near Annapolis. Though it started late and we couldn't have non-family aboard (COVID!), the extended warm weather allowed us to get out just as often. Thanks for all the vids! They are much appreciated.

      I think you should enjoy an ice cold one for watching that many of my videos in a a row ;-) Glad you've been enjoying them!

    Nice to see things haven't changed since I was a boat mechanic 30 years ago. The only thing we did different was put oil in the new filter, brings up the pressure faster, especially when boats had aux filters. Thanks again for sharing.

    Great work! We upgraded boats this year and our new to us Regal has the "reverso" oil change system for the engines and generator. First time using it and boy was I missing out!

    Good job! You can speed up the oil extraction time by using an adapter hose that fits OVER the dip stick tube instead of inserting it INTO the dip stick tube. Mercruiser dip stick tubes are designed to go to the bottom of the oil pan so you will extract the same amount of oil with this method. I have the same brand extractor as you although the bigger model. The main tube from the extractor goes into a short piece of tygon that I got at home depot and that adapter piece fits snuggly over the dip stick tube. Sucks out all the oil fast! Also, after reading many forums I have started using Shell Rotella® T4 15W-40 and buying the 5 gallon pails.

      Good suggestion on the pick up tube. As for the oil, I always have and will continue to use only Merc oils and parts. I'm not after saving a buck or two on anything when it comes to the boat and will reply on the factory original when it comes to those items . . .

      @@BoatingWithBoogaboo I'm not using the oil for the cost savings, it's a premium oil that outperforms the Merc oil. Love your channel, keep up the good work.

    It all looks rather easy, thank you. Is it necessary for me also to play the funky background music?

    Thanks for the video.
    1) how long is the pumps dipstick hose?
    2) how much more oil do you think an 8.1 litre would have?

      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Рік тому

      You'll have to check your owner's manual for crankcase capacity on them engines.

      @@BoatingWithBoogaboo thanks. What about dipstick hose length? Was yours over 41 inches?

      I have no idea. If you're referring to the clear line I used for extracting the oil, I originally bought that over 20 years ago as a random length from the hardware store. If I were to do it again today, I'd probably buy 6 or 8 feet and cut to a workable length. Easy enough to figure out...

    Something popped into my head. If 25W-40 is technically less viscous at cooler temperatures and more viscous at warmer temps,, why do we warm the engine up before changing the oil (other than stirring up any sediment in the pan, that should theoretically be mostly in the filter)?

    Have you changed transmission fluid? Would like to see how you do it.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  3 роки тому

      Yes. Simply draw the old fluid out with my oil extractor, then in with the new. Easy peezy 👌
