If no one has mentioned it: how orange/yellow the egg is dependant on how the chickens were fed (: whether with corn, pellets or all kinds of different feed! They can go from almost red-orange to the palest yellow depending!

I grew up in an area with many people of Filipino descent. Oo! The food at the baptisms, the debuts, the weddings!! 😍 Even when Mom would come to visit from the Philippines, the food game would go to 11! I'm a vegan now and I enjoy trying to get the same/similar flavors with plant foods. Not the same, of course, but Filipino food is delicious whether it contains meat products or not!

To sensible people, spread it in different languages. We support Muslims, but the Hague court turns the words around and accuses the Russians, and Russian soldiers are on the territory of Ukraine, all politics. Peace to everyone.

The pink chicken is actually normal because the sauce chicken inasal is marinated with a reddish sauce so dont worry about it being raw because its not.

Came here to say just that. 😁 Fear not, lovely Taz, it is just the marinade that makes the chicken pinkish. I make this all the time and actually, it looks as if your inasal was quite well done. Cheers, mi dear!😘Yes, I am Pinay (Filipina).

*Silog* is sinangag (sinang-ag) + itlog. Sinangag is fried (garlic) rice and itlog is egg. Adding long in front of it means it's with sausage called longanisa and adding tap in front of it means it has meat called tapa and so on and on (cornsilog, spamsilog)
*Umami* is a taste, like sweet, salty, bitter and sour. It's the savoury sensation you get when you eat meat or stuff like tomato, but is not any of the other tastes (sweet, salty, bitter and sour) It's the taste you get with monosodium glutamate (MSG) which naturally occurs in meat, tomato, cheese, mushrooms, seafood, egg etc. That coat your mouth "I want more" salivating sensation, but not the one you get with sour food.
*Calamansi* is not a lime, it's a cross between a mandarin orange/tangerine and kumquat.
*Pancit* is indeed what we call stir fried noodles. It comes from Hokkien 便的食 (Bian de shi) which means quick and easy convenient food. Cause it's a go to dish that you can whip up quite easily.
*Lumpia* is spring rolls. It's another dish that the Hokkien people brought us. Pia means pastry/cake/pancake/flatbread, usually with a filling, in Hokkien. Lun means soft, so it means soft pastry. "BUT IT IS CRISPY THOUGH" We have different versions, the soft one and the fried one but we call em both lumpia. In other regions of Southeast Asia it's called popiah, which still has the "pia" part.
    Hope this helps.

I’ve also noticed your expanding palate! Your growth and curiosity is great.
As a Filipina American, you definitely have to try out our soups. Sinigang is the most popular but controversial to non-Filipinos because of its savory sour broth. I like beef sinigang best. I think it’s a grower type dish.
A good thing to note is that rice is an essential part of a Filipino meal - including the soups - to balance out the pungent, salty or sour tastes.

Hi Taz, great vid! Most of the dishes you've tasted were fusion food. But I bet they were still good since you rated them highly. Your breakfast was indeed silog, si=sinangag (fried rice that's usually garlic rice) log=itlog (fried sunny side up egg). In households, if not intentional silog, we usually have leftover from yesterday or last night's meal plus egg and rice and that's a silog already. 😆 otherwise, any meat like hotdog, bacon, fish, tapa, etc. are common.
The pancit you had for lunch was just one of the varieties of pancit dishes in the Philippines. There are glass noodles, thick noodles, a combination of both.. then with meat or seafood plus stir fried veggies. PH dishes are mostly on the salty side which are paired best with plain rice. Yes, even the pancit. Carbs + carbs. 😂
Pandesal is very common here, just like the regular rolls you can easily grab in the store. No filling, just regular bread. But these days there are many varieties like that Ube you tasted and has filling too.
Moby puffs were my fave when I was younger. 😁 it's really fun. You should also try Piatos, nova, chippy, moby chocolate, richee, roller coaster-these are just some of the OG snacks that is commonly loved here.
The Bintang foods seemed like fusion dishes. We don't normally have curry taste pancit 😅
The Inasal is also a popular dish and though that chicken looked sus, it didn't look raw. It usually happens when it's grilled. That soy sauce at the last part was probably for that inasal.
The lumpia is like a staple dish in every occasion!
Was a little disappointed with the chicken adobo though as it didn't represent the usual dish we have. Adobo (either chicken or pork) is braised, so it shouldn't have looked that dry. There are so many different versions of adobo all over Philippines and all of them are correct. It just depends on preference and what was usually made at home. Example, older versions don't use soy sauce just vinegar, some only use salt, some have equal ratio of vinegar and soy sauce, some more vinegary than salty, some add sugar, some with chilis or coconut milk or pineapple. Really, they may be different from one family to another, but none of them are wrong. -so I guess that adobo you tasted wasn't wrong? Lol. It would've been better with rice though and the sauce from it would've been great on the rice. 🤤
As for the halo halo. Litetally "mix mix" . Is also a great snack or dessert. Some would have ice cream on top too and a flan, which adds greatness to the already awesome dessert.
Glad you enjoyed your food! Hope you can visit Philippines one day ❤ Cheers!

Taz, I love how you honestly say if you don't know something. That is great. I'm glad you like Filipino cuisine - and yes, a lot of it is sweeter. The longonisa (sausage) is made with brown sugar and a splash of vinegar and a lot (!) of garlic. If you lived there, you wouldn't notice because they all smell of it ;-) . And lastly: Halo-Halo needs to be mixed up (as you did). Halo means "mixing".
But there are so many other dishes out there, I would be delighted if you did a part 2.

No "ethnic food" in the UK is authentic, except for some of the Pakistani and Ethiopian. They tailor it to British tastes. London is thr only place you'll find anything remotely authentic. This is the absolute best you can get. If you couod get Filipino food in the north of England, it woukd be frozen xhinese eggrolls with Thai sweet chili sauce, and a strange (unseasoned ot underseasoned) dish ot rice and meat that's a weird hybrid of Chinese, Pakistani, and Middle Eastern food, swimming in really bad sauce.
And yes, it's still all called "ethnic food" here. And usually called "street food" no matter if it resembles any sort of street food or not.
I'm an American living in UK and ive only had 10 good meals in the decade ive lived here.

Omg so glad you finally tried Filipino foods! A few notes tho! I had no idea there's an ube brownie, so that's something I have to try in my own home country. The Adobo should've had sauce, dunno why its dry. The Inasal is a staple here, so glad you liked it! The halo halo is actually eaten it a spoon and not drank with a straw, but that's such a good way to do it, I'l try that someday. I'm also not familiar with the last noodles you had, but if you're able to find a Pancit Bihon, you should definitely try it! Thanks for the great reviews and good choices on the food and snacks! ❤

12:34 We call it "patis suka" in our region. It's a mix of soy sauce (sometimes fish sauce) & vinegar with calamansi sometimes we also add onions with it. It can varry but that's how we enjoy it in our province. We dip grilled foods in it, inasal manok, pork or fish. It's somehow like a gravy for us, we pour some of it on our rice depends on how you like it really.

Great video! It was a pretty good variety of filipino foods. the longsilog can be sweet or spicy - the egg was perfect, vbut I like mine even more cooked. The pancit you had for lunch looked authentic enough, but I don't know what that was for dinner. the "lumpia" you had was not. Lumpia is normally much thinner and crispier. It's the crisp that get people addicted. 😁 the calamansi juice-better than any lemonade/limeade in the world. Great ending with the halo halo, but don't drink it with a straw. Eat everything with a spoon, then drink the liquid at the end.
Things to still try: filipino spaghetti, kare kare (oxtail stew), arroz caldo (chicken and rice) leche flan, and bibinka (a better rice cake), You can do a part 2! Thanks for the food video. It's really good to see people trying new foods.

I think the restaurant you got the Pancit from does a bit of fusion with their dishes. Have done Filipino restaurants with my friend from the Philippines and haven't encountered udon used in Pancit.
The noodle dish you had at dinner looked more familiar. Also from the amount of Lumpia I have had, Lumpia is a bit different than spring rolls. The fact that the restaurant listed spring rolls and not Lumpia is probably the fact that they didn't want to do false advertising. Where as Disneyland in California has made sweet Lumpia before and I tell my friend and he has a tiny stroke 😅

Hey! Long time subscriber but first time commenter!! I really enjoyed watching you try Filipino food! If you ever want better suggestions for good Filipino spots around London hmu! Glad you hit up Bintang! They're more of a upscale fusion of South-Eastern cuisines, with prominent flavours and dishes from the Philippines than authenic spot but geuinely one of my favourite places, especially to introduce Filipino flavours to friends! Their restaurant experience itself is lovely too, I'd strongly reccomend going there.
As a cuisine it's definitely on the rise in western world but I think the main reason it's not as popular is the negative conatations so ingrained in western society towards the Filipinos especially in the UK and the US. We're seen as a poor nation, largely due to the the US training and importing FIlipinos overseas as cheap labour for nursing and domestic industries after WWII. There's a huge Filipino community in the UK but culturally we're very good at assimilating as immigrants, not pushing our culture or food to others, hence why many don't open up restaurants. It's nice seeing in London at least, that is changing rapidly and ube has become a household name!
Sorry for the mini rant! A large part of the content I make is to promote Filipino culture so it really made me happy to see you make this video!

Hi! Thanks for trying our food! Glad you enjoyed it.
LongSiLog is basically LONGanisa (sausage), SInangag (Fried rice), and itLOG (egg). Then it turns into TOsilog (tocino), TAPsilog (tapa) depending on what viand you get with the rice and egg.
Breakfast is called almusal or agahan.

Hi taz, Filipino here. The sauce is called toyomansi. Thats soy sauce with kalamansi. U can dip the inasal in that sauce and it will be amazing. Lumpia is springroll with meat on it, like pork or fish or beef. Try eating pares, or balut. Those are popular. ☺️☺️☺️

    In our language,
    Breakfast = "almusal"
Silog = fried rice "sinangag", egg "itlog"
    Spring rolls = "Lumpia"
Not all breakfast has fried rice and egg. Yes most Filipino breakfast is savory. Yes, unfortunately we tend to use sugar to enhance flavor in both sweet and savory dishes. It becomes a problem when you get older and you need to cut back on sugar.

If you wanna go for Filipino breakfast, don’t use beef and lamb sausages because we don’t have that available. A typical Filipino breakfast is Fried rice, fried egg (scrambled or sunny side up), hotdogs or tocino (caramelized pork if you have), tomatoes in fish sauce and banana ketchup.
