- We review an affordable small car, Hyundai's new Accent. With all of the talk about car sales dropping and American car companies running away from compact cars, some brands are still trying. While there are solid options available from Mazda, Toyota and Honda the extremely affordable options have thinned. Enter the Hyundai Accent Video.

Thank you Hyundai and Kia for still making cars normal people can actually afford, without going into massive debt.
Kia is a Godesend when it comes to small cars 🙌🏾
what u cant afford $1000 per month for an suv ..
@@scottkemp1460 no, i opted for the $1400/month, 50% apr 84 month lease on four cylinder range rover instead

Legit this comment sums it all up. They started as pretty looked down upon but now I’d say that they make some pretty sick looking cars and some pretty reliable cars while still being cheap. Kudos to them!
My wife had her Accent for 12 years before we finally upgraded her. It took her all through college and through medical school. It's a solid around town car that won't break the bank!
What is your wife's name? 😊

Savage Geese... the only reason I'd watch a 15 minute review of a Hyundai Accent.
Best reviewer on UA-cam by far
Big props to Hyundai for NOT using CVT's even in their inexpensive cars like this one. The torsion beam rear is a downer but the price makes up for it. I can forgive the slow acceleration to get 40mog's "No matter how i drive it".... That's pretty frickin good. Not bad looking insider and out either. Good job Hyundai 👍
Big agreement on that! Planetary gear torque converter automatics for the win. Feel, durability, serviceability: think, 15 year old taxicabs in Mongolia. What is the transmission of choice there? I will never buy a belt drive CVT car. Not that I plan to drive a taxi in Tibet, but if it can handle those conditions, it's unlikely to let me down in Death Valley.
Mazda keeping it real with torque converted autos as well. Compliant and responsive in the iA and the CX3.
Evan Andrews: Yeah, and Mazda has the whole great to drive thing down like no other budget J-car, though Honda comes close. But they've gone to the dark side with cvts, possible bad news 15 years down the road.
Jeff Eppenger agree, I do wonder though if they will start using a cvt eventually. The 2019 Forte will have Kia/Hyundai new IVT transmission. Apparently it's supposed to have gear like (shift logic) tech. They're using a chain system instead of a belt like most CVTs. Time will tell.
..."The in-house-engineered IVT is considered a next-generation CVT. “We tried as much as possible to make the IVT feel like a normal step-transmission,” Hedrick said. To accomplish that, Kia engineers built the IVT with adaptive style shift logic and a chain-link-type belt instead of a push belt--an industry first in the compact class."...

What makes a CVT a bad thing? I think it seems nice for stop and go driving.
Just bought a 2018 Accent last week. I got the base model with the six speed stick. Even the base model is not a stripper. Cruise control, blue tooth for your phone, nice stereo MP3 player controls in the steering wheel. Awesome AC. Got 38 MPG on my first tank of gas. This is my 6th Hyundai since 1999.
Forgot it also came with a backup camera on the base model.
Congrats on the car! I’m looking at this or the Toyota ia manual for something good on gas cheap and fun to drive. How’s the feel with the 6 speed and acceleration?
With 130 HP it has plenty of power. I have no problem getting onto a highway and the car is solid at 80MPH. Been averaging 41 MPG and not highway driving either.
@@535tony Thank you for this comment, my biggest concern is how it would handle in the 70-80mph range. What's the fastest you have gotten it up to? If you hit 100mph, blink twice lol
Got up to 90 for a short time. Don't need a speeding ticket. The first accent I had was a1999 model. I drove about 100 mph in it for about an hour. The car took it fine but two of the cheap Kumho tires had belt separations and I had to replace them. The 2018 has Continental tires. 23K miles so far with no problems. Still getting 40MPG.
Finally a normal car
Normal cars have armrests in the front
Drove this car as a rental and was really surprised by how tactile yet comfortable it was. It was so refreshing to have a simple car where you could still feel the road through the steering, and the car handled very well for what it is.
Short > 15 minutes. Never stop being you. Synthesized intro music really fit the car as a friendly appliance.
Are you saying you like the shorter 15 minute ones? I prefer them to be longer, especially if it's a type of car that I'd purchase, but that's just my opinion.
Affalterbach 1967 short is greater than 15 minutes? On a 15 minute video.
There’s a “The Princess Bride” quote/meme that would seem to fit well here.
Hyundai's are good cars. Cheap and reliable. But also good quality.
I can't believe how much hyundai has changed in such a short time.
Turbowski just loves eco boxes,he just puts on this tough guy v8 stance for tv
In five years, Hyundai went from being a joke, to being one of my favorite manufacturers.
Excellent, honest review. I can't help but notice that the Accent looks more and more like an Elantra.
You deserve subscribers in millions, Your channel is way too underrated man. Excellent videos with in depth reviews. Keep up the good work man.
This is the best car review I have ever watched. This guy is great. Honest, charismatic and suspenseful. This is better than a movie. 😅
I wish people would get it and stop driving vehicles that they can't afford. A lot of people in lexus or BMW's should really be driving cars like this
It's a dillemma, isn't it? Sometimes I want more and more people to flood the used car market with BMW/Audi so that one day, I can drive a lightly used certified BMW/Audi for under 15k. It's getting there...
Something I've been guilty of as well... people look at the lease prices of more expensive cars versus the buying price of affordable cars. It sounds like a good option to lease a nicer car when you don't consider the long term.
No offense, why do you care? It’s not your problem. I’m driving a 2007 highlander btw.
This review was refreshing to watch! Nice to see simple cheap cars get good reviews.
Love that you review cars for the everyman. And the adjustment of expectation and perspective each review brings. Most useful car review channel by far.
That's what I value about his content too. With every vehicle he reviews, he keeps it in perspective. Too many auto critics are accustomed to driving expensive cars and it biases their opinions of inexpensive cars.
It took me watching 15 of your videos to finally subscribe. You grew on me like a fungus. Your review shop is awesome 👏🏽👏🏽
I'm a big fan of the Accent. Working at a rental company we get alot of these and I find them far more enjoyable to drive than the Corrolla, Sentra, Versa, Focus, and Sonic. I think Savagegeese is exaggerating alot when it comes to the cars power, it definitely feels faster than all those cars I just mentioned and I think alot of that has to do with the AT which is smooth and always gives you the gear you want. Plus we NEVER have reliability issues with them and that with hard rental use. Such a solid car.
yep my crv is what i call slow it's 0-60 is like 12 seconds hahaha, and i still zip around in it though *shrug*
yes,it does feel faster going 0 to 60(like 7-8 secs).
I had a 2012 Accent SE and it was never too slow the reviewer is BSing people saying its so slow.
The reviewer drives more expensive cars so I can see why he thinks its slow. Still I think he's fair and says it's very good at this price level. I just bought mine with a 6 speed and it's feels faster because the engine sounds so loud when you floor it LoL. Just like the Miata NA I used to have.
The greatest intro for a car review I have ever seen hands down
It’s refreshing to see an economy car just be an economy car. So many modern economy cars are overly stiff to prove how sporty they are, and then shoved full of screens and fake leather and they wind up with a $25k+ MSRP. Idk how we wound up at this point. How many people out there are willing to drop 30k on a civic touring or a golf?
Doctor Ferdinand sadly this economy car is also cost up to $25k when its loaded.
Thats really absurd. I don't know who in their right minds would fork over that much for an appliance. Manufacturers are doing a very poor job incentivizing new entry level sales.
Old and crusty as it may be, the Nissan Versa is actually an impressive value proposition. A fairly big, mechanically proven car for less than the price of some of these tiny box junks. It's pretty spartan but it has a good engine that's reliable and efficient, a comfortable ride and a lot of usable space. When did basic transportation stop being about that and start being about awful, rubbery fake leather and poorly integrated ipads in the dash?
The Versa Note in particular isn't that bad, as it has a TON of space inside for the class. The back seats especially are roomy.
jun park I live in Chicago and the fully loaded model go for $20,000 tops. It is a great car for the price point. Hyundai hit a home run with this one
jun park what options take it to 25k? He said it was almost fully loaded at 18k
Thank you for taking the time to do a review on this car. I drive a 2019 Hyundai Sonata Limited Turbo with all he bells and whistles and love it.
Great video! I own an older one of these.
Thanks for pointing out that practical easy and cheap to fix is still appreciated
your attention to detail is awesome---the bouncy face cam at 4:00 matched up perfectly with the underdampened suspension bit!
I enjoyed this review, and thank you for realizing that some of us actually like lower cost cars.
Dude you shot and edited the hell out of this better than Hyundai could do. The music was perfect and very respectful, flirting stylistically with the little cars great lines.
im so stoked you did this car! i have a 2017 6spd ill have put about 24k miles on it this first year. great little car, does exactly what a 15k car should.
Videos keep getting better refined. 0:37 Love the shot. It's almost like a video game shot a la Need for Speed. ... 15:41 "You can get to the back side..." TWSS
Yes, keep doing this shot. Really badass.
Hahaha! 8:07. How old is that Handycam?! Can't believe Turbowski showed up for this one! Great review, as always. I love your style Geeze. It's original and genuine, don't ever change that. :)
I drove an '07 Accent for 10 years, put 130,000 miles on it. Always was dependable and sturdy, never had any major mechanical problems. My dad retired a couple of years ago and had to return his company car, and now he drives it! Great video, SG. I miss driving a little compact like this - my full size sedan feels like a boat in comparison
You should have a 30 minute show on TV doing these car videos. I still can't believe you do all the work yourself, that's crazy.
Taffy fuck tv man.. that shit is allready dead for years. 😁
Nine-ish seconds to sixty isn’t bad, and the fact that it doesn’t have turbo or dual-clutch lag really makes it more responsive from a dead stop than a lot of its contemporaries.
this channel is so good!!! best car reviews on youtube
Truly love your take on every vehicle you review. Entertaining and enlightening all in a well packaged product! 👍👏
Had this car and the Rio on my shopping list, but my boys are entering their teens and sitting them in the back seat (at a recent auto show) revealed that there is no way I could buy this car and put my boys in the back. Ended up getting the Kia Forte with better leg room in the back, and a nice auto with adjustable shift modes. But this Accent is a great car if you have small kids or none at all.
I hope you didn't buy the Rio and put your boys through that ordeal. Seriously now my family's first car was a 1989 Nissan Cherry. It was tiny but we had great fun. You don't need that much space. I miss that car.
These videos just keep getting better. I'm hooked. :-)
Good review. Very refreshing bit of honesty about it. Basic car that does everything ok without all the bells and whistle
You keep getting better at the music and video editing Mr. Geese. Keep it up!
Thank you for this video. You really helped me end my long search and my grueling uncertainty
great review as usual....good to see Scott back...
Love these videos and I don't feel strongly one way or another about some of these cars. And these videos help me to just pay attention to what auto makers are doing, keep up the good work.
I loved the soundtrack for this one, Goose!
Liking the channel more and more. Showing us the under pinnings is pretty sweet.
I don't comment much on YT, but your Videos are getting better and better with each release. Savagegeese is right up there with the old Top Gear and Grand Tour and you're a couple of ticks above car throttle. Keep up the good work, signed-------- a loyal fan.Edit to add: Great Car Review! Yes we need Basic cars for the Newbies/ Commuters who don't want a fucking CUV/SUV/Pickup Truck...............................
Nice review! That's exactly why I got this car. Affordable, easy to maintain, and comfortable for commuting. It saves money for a fun weekend car, but isn't miserable to be in.
I thought you were joking when you told me on the 570S video that there's a Hyundai Accent review coming with Turbowski 😂
I just got my second Hyndai Accent, my first was a 2010, my second is a 2018 and the new car is much better with power windows and things like cruise control. The things I really like about the cars from Hyundai is that they have very good simple, good engineering from the engine compartment to the interior. It’s not really fast but great gas mileage and really good reliability and my 2010 Accent never gave me anything that I had to take it to a dealership to fix until it had 140,000 miles on it and one of the ignitions each separate over the cylinders failed and it stopped running great and I took it to a dealership and they quoted me almost $1,000 to fix it. They charged me almost $400.00 for spark plugs and a gasket over the compartment that’s over the plugs but their service did not fix the problem. Some dealers are not good I believe from my experience with them over many years. I fixed the problem by borrowing a plug in device that said my number 3 ignition was failing. I went to my local parts store and purchased one for $75.00 and it took me about 20 minutes to install and then it ran just great again. I’m very mechanical oriented and do a lot of service on anything from electronics on Yachts to most things around the house or simply service on automobiles. All I can tell you is that Hyundai builds a very well engineered, very reliable auto that for the price is the best or one of the best cars in my experience and I have lots of experience with cars that my huge family owned over the last 40 years. Everything from $200,000 car to 20 year old used ones for $500. Both of my Hyundai cars have been some of the best reliable and long lasting with the service costing the lowest of any other cars that I know about. I think I know why they are growing in the business from when they started even during the bad economic times.
Great video Mark, Puts Priorities back in Perspective on cars on what you actually Do really Need.John
We have a 2015 Sonata GL Canadian trim in the rust capital Nova Scotia where your car is covered with salt from ocean spray and 95% humidity let alone salt on the road in winter. There is still no rust under it, simple 2.4l with decent power and a great 6 speed auto (that downshifts on its own to engine brake in eco mode). The only work I've had to do was change brake pads and i love how simple it is (manual parking brake with a rotor/drum combo). The car is really simple, smooth like all modern cars are, and things are smart about it, especially the drains in body panels and wrapping over welds, even the rocker panels and pinch weld are smartly done. It's as boring as watching paint dry but I love it for what it is.
Excellent review of a REAL working stiff’s kind of car. I wasn’t even bothered that much by Turdowski’s return.
Best car guy on UA-cam bar none.
Topthecat idk man regular car reviews is a national treasure
Savagegeese, Regular Car reviews, Donut Media are probably the best. If Cleetus Mcfarland reviewed cars, he'd be up there too lol.
can"t forget about """"Vehicle Virgins"""
Moist Chungus regular car reviews is becoming annoying with the random bullshit moments in his videos
Jay Leno's Garage, Smoking Tire and Straight Pipes are all my fav's too...Savage is #1.
Good Stuff! I like the affordable car reviews
Nice review - I have a 2010 Accent L (3-door, manual gearbox) as my second car, starts every time I turn the key, change the oil on schedule, no problems. When my oldest goes away to university, I will probably give him my daily (a 2012 Maxima) and keep driving the Accent until I find something else :) keep up the good work here!
If you like it, absolutely keep it. It's always nice to have less debt, and more $$$ in the bank.
Still don't know how you don't have more subs. One day someone's gonna mention you. Bam! 1 million subs!
Loved this. My girlfriend bought a 2013 Accent brand new in 2012. 6-speed MANUAL TRANSMISSION and it's a HATCHBACK which they don't produce anymore. She has over 60k miles on it and it's never caused a single problem. It's starting to need front brakes but whatever. When the warranty is up, I'll be sourcing a Veloster Turbo motor to swap in, as well as the rear disc brakes.
love your videos man. never never stop. nobody gets into the details that we care about like you do. nobody shows the under body. great job.
This is the perfect car for my gf.
i want to get an ST or something sporty like that. maybe the veloster N. i would get the mustang turbo but i heard it has bad reliability :/
Your videos on cheap new cars are SO much better than the supercar stuff--glad to see you getting back into it. Making a decent car you can sell for $15,000 and make a profit is a much more interesting feat of engineering than making a car for buyers willing to shell out a quarter-million dollars (and get 4 miles to the gallon). Please do the 2019 Corolla!
This review is well done. Love the look under the car.
You and @alexonautos are the best reviews bar none
Finally some people talking sense. I own an 11yr old Kia Rio (sister to accent), live in the salt belt of Canada, and it's held up great. Very reliable basic car.
Great stuff, as always.
Very much cool and knowledgeable review...
Appreciate it 👍
Please make more videos about affordable cars! especially loved the vid. about the kia rio. keep it up!
I have had my 2018 Accent for 3 months now. I've been averaging 50 mpg over that time, driving mostly back roads and some highway driving. This car is an astonishingly good value!
Another great video! Now this is the kind of vehicle most people can identify with. Love the idea that manufactures can make cars that don't cost an arm and a leg and can be easily serviced by the weekend mechanic. 40 miles a gallon is nothing to sneeze at either. I miss cars like this!!
We are living in such a spoiled age where a car has become a computerized Appliance instead of a tool to get from point-A to point-B. Ten years ago, this would have been a breakthrough car.
Now, everyone has to drive an Infiniti, Lexus or a BMW with the complexity of a cray computer. Crazy how spoiled we have become. Thanks for a great review.
Love your reviews
When I look at cars like this, I'm not worried about 0-60. Yeah, 0-60 takes 10 seconds. But the vast majority of people buying this car are city driving. What is more important is something like 0 to 40 so you can get into traffic and keep up.
I do appreciate this channel and how you (unlike some other car reviews on UA-cam) evaluate each car for what it is and what people are buying it for instead of spending an overwhelming amount of time nitpicking over quality of plastics or pedal feel in a $14,000 car.
any 0-60 under 10 secs is good. my crv is like 12. that's what pain is but i still zip around everybody and surpisingly one of the faster drivers on the road.
Great video man! I really like when you do these cheap cars, because it gives one perspective and a larger part of the audience can actually relate and use it as buying advice. I mean, the channel wouldn't be all that exciting if you ONLY did econoboxes, you need the fancy cool fast stuff too. I like the cheap cars, one reason being that I'm probably never going to own a McLaren.
Play hundred percent agree and truthfully I get sick and tired of these crazy expensive cars. Many of them I could really afford to own but never would. There's a huge benefit of doing these videos they can help real people that don't have a ton of money to piss away either so I hear you.
For a great deal of the luxury vehicles, they'll be leased and forgotten about when the next new shiny comes along in 3 years. Your reviews of the lower priced offerings carry value for an under-served market segment.
@@savagegeese I'd love a Playlist of you reviewing affordable cars! :)
Before anything awesome review, nailed it like every review. When my FRS got hit last winter and I had a rental which funny enough was this car.. I felt the same way .. I felt bad flooring that car but the milage was amazing ... Driving this car makes you lose Passion for cars but this car works for most people .. Its more of tool you use just to get the job done and that's it
Very good review! I'm going back to basics myself soon, and this Accent is my first choice. Oh... I'm subscribed.
Just got a 2019 SE, and everything said here is true. It’s a fantastic basic car; nothing more, nothing less.
After daily driving an AutoX prepared ‘90s M3, receiving one of these as a rental car has been a real experience. It is slow as fuck, but it also cruises on the highway at 85 mph while getting 35 mpg without any issues. I love how you can just drive it over anything without a care in the world, because it does have soft suspension.
I have had to get used to the fact that I can only take off and on ramps at half the speed I can in the M3 before the tires begin to squeal, but even that’s kind of fun. Reaching a car’s limits at low speeds had a charm in its own right. .
Excellent Review. Thanks for that. I'm on the same page regarding owning a simple car. Having owned Saabs, VWs, Subarus, and more. All I want now is simplicity and ease of ownership with some degree of driving joy. I currently own a 2013 Focus SE. It is a great driving car in NorCal with the mountain and coastal roads. Has given me zero issues and extremely lo-cost maintenance. Ford and the domestics no longer want my business. At some point in time, this is exactly what I will need. And I'm not ready to drop $ 25k+ for a civic or a new Corolla.
Way back in the day, 1988, the Mrs. worked for a company that was doing market research for Hyundai (They were being introduced into the US) and we bought one of the first, Excells? I don't remember. But it got horrible reviews however we did get over 100K out of it and it really served us well with trips from NC to NYC many times and no real problems beyond maintenance. I like the Hyundai, I would choose it over a Toyota or Honda simply because they cost less and are really of similar quality. Plus, I think they have a much better warrantee. But when you are poor and in school and living off minimum wage, buy one used. Good review, hard to find real people mover car reviews. The expensive car reviews are great fun but they don't really provide real world buying, driving or living. Hat's off. Oh and near 40MPG!! Oh yea!
Hey Geese, Big fan! Any chance of doing a review on any of the new Acuras anytime soon? I love my Acura and have been looking to get a newer one.
This has been my experience with my Fiat 500. Pile on the miles, sips gas, treat the throttle like an on/off switch. No problems.
I might test drive a new Accent when it's time to get the wife a car but she needs AWD more than I do. I'm liking the CX3 for her. AWD and still slow-car-fast.
Simplicity, reliability, value for money !!! 👌🏆👍
You and I have similar thoughts about cars. That opening segment was totally me and how I think. I bought a 2011 Hyundai Accent which BRAND NEW was $9800. My payment was $200/mo and it was such a great car for the couple years I had it. The MT was surprisingly great. I should have kept it because, well, it wasn't GDI. If it weren't for the itch to get something new every year I'd still own it. My Mazda3 finally scratches all the itches and I no longer have that need. Comfortable, efficient, and I dont have to worry about it, similar to an Accent type car with more style.
Great review.
Absolutely spot on about this car, good video.
its only painfully slow because youre always going so fast but for people who never experience hundreds of horsepower and torque its not so bad
lol you and scott should dance when you play the shoppe intro music
wait, direct injection, does it have port too to keep the intakes from gumming up?
Probably not. Just spray some seafoam in every 30k
yeah, i am from germany and the average power of a car is around 120 hp. A random F150 from the USA would murder almost everything on our streets lol
RL Agito no port injection. Hyundai recommends getting the valves cleaned and a fuel system flush every 30,000 miles. I have a 2016 accent.
Could you/did you make a video explaining how suspension works?
SavageGeese: Always on point with cars.
Love the intro tune tbh
Shortest. Review. Ever. I'm with it
I was a tech at a Hyundai dealership when they issued the recall on subframes and front lower control arms and even rear trailing arms on some vehicles. I can't even count how many subframes I replaced at the time. I still remember this one Elantra (XD) that got towed in with one of the front lower control arms (stamped/welded clamshell style) completely snapped in half at the weakest point and this was months before the recall was issued. Scary stuff. I'm glad Hyundai has come so far. Their older cars were terrible.
I have to agree with you. There is something about cheap basic cars. You get so much bang for your buck and a lot of them are pretty good to drive. I don't mean they are sporty and fun but good all around and fuel economy is great because of the lack of weight and skinny tires. Great review as always.
I am going to be doing a video about driving and going to be covering this in greater detail.
Long way from my '91 Accent from college with crank windows, no A/C and no power steering. I'd drive that thing in the rain with the windows down to stay cool and didn't care how wet the interior got. Though I've never had a Hyundai since I still have a soft spot for them.
Just got a 2018 Accent. The last Accent I had was a 1999 I bought new. I put 140,000 miles on that car when a drunk ran a stop sign and destroyed it. Hope my 2018 will be as good.
Trackhawk review on the way? Had mine a month, very curious to see what you and Turbowski have to say about it. Hopefully I heard that right. You and The Straight Pipes are killing the automotive review game!!
I love how you offer feedback on the vehicles you show as opposed to just pointing out that the car has cup holders or a steering wheel like every other reviewer. Please review the Honda Pilot or the Subaru Ascent, I can't decide on which one to purchase.
I do try my best to be real about cars. Maybe not always dead on but hopefully it helps people
Ur reviews are quite in depth, yet the views are not comin up....
Best wishes for ur future endeavours.
Did u get ur hands on the g70?
It was nice to finally see Turbowski again! There a number you could put to its 0-60 time? Or numbers...if it breaks double digits..
Id buy it for sure fantastic price and feature set, plus looks pretty good too!!
Hey savagegeese if you can get older affordable sports cars (think e36, miata, 240sx, sc400, foxbody, fbody etc...) to review that'd be awesome. I'm sure a lot of people on the channel would love to see that too.
Great review. Basic is best . Finally a normal review and not some snobby approach to an affordable A to B car for the blue collar type person. Half of the reviewers out there complain about a cheap car like we all want bullshit nonsense gadgets that just jack up the price.
You should bring back Turbowski for ONLY cheap car reviews. Thing to remember is our current 'cheap' cars are miles and miles better than the economy cars of the late 90's and early 2000's.
Great music choice. Looking forward to more electronic music.
I love the subcompact car genre. Can you review the Toyota Yaris ia anytime soon?
with such improvements, is the ESP an important part of the vehicule ? cause some versions don't have it.
Thak you
Just bought mine 2018 with 23k miles in cash! I love the sunroof . My old lady got the 2021 elantra sel in our split up . So I dug up what I've been saving and bought the limited in cash !!! Gas saver baby
