I have the Legion Slim 7i 4070 for a week now and so far I'm in love with it! It's slim and has the same performance as other thick ones. I ordered it from Lenovo directly and they offer you pretty nice customization and at the time a 40% discount. You can even choose to not have Windows on it, wich I didn't need because I already have a license from my old Notebook. I paid abaout € 2050 for a i9 and a 4070, 16gb RAM (I added an extra RAM stick myself for another €50) with an amazing screen and build quality. For the european market I couldn't find anything better for this price.
Also have the Slim since 3 days. Its a more premium build than the Pro 7i and has nearly as much power. My old laptop took about 18-24h to encode one bluray with 30-40gb. This thing does it roughly 60times faster in 20min. I paid 2177 for i9, 4070, 16gb ram (+50€ crucial ddr5 16gb), 3200×2000 display and rgb keybord. If it lasts as long as my old one its a total win for me. Was looking at nitro, omen and blade, but this one was just the best option all around
I'm in the same boat. Had to sell my desktop and settled on the Legion Slim 7i 4070 as a replacement. In Germany, nothing beats the price and quality of it. I cheeped out on the options and did the upgrades myself for a lesser price. I do feel I made the right choice over a Razer or Asus laptop, which are more expensive anyhow.
That is one VERY impressive beast! I like the form factor, too. I don't like 18" machines, they're just too big to be practical. This looks like it'll hit the sweet spot
@@NotebookcheckReviewsThe huge chassis definitely has its advantages in cooling space! I tend to bring my laptop places, so I like a 14-16" form factor, but I know a number of gamers who really like that huge machine.
The things I miss most on my recently purchased Legion Pro 7i is the SD-Cardreader and MiniLED-Display. Now I know why there was no option to choose these because the Legion 9 needed more USPs. Very sad
True, the SD-card reader would have been nice to have, but a wider color gamut display option is sorely missed. They could have, at least, offerent the one that is available for the slim 7 ...
@@NotebookcheckReviews The Pro 7i is offered with a MiniLED Display, but sadly not in the EU. However, I may get the 7, because I am worried about the longevity of the 9 (water cooled laptop -> every laptop repair guy I asked said "Do not buy"!!!). Hoping to see this point in your review!
Everything's rosy as long as a laptop, a portable device, boasts a commendable battery life (7+ hrs least). Else it's a super compact desk-top. I hope lenovo has ticked that box... Can't wait for notebookcheck's detailed written review, my go to resource for laptop reviews.
and for the review of legion 9i, please compare this laptop to the pro 7i, which probably have the same perfoemance as this one, the difference between internal AIO and vapor chamber should be interesting
I'm very pleased with Lenovo's recent\upcoming releases. I used to believe ASUS was the only innovator in this field, so I was so surprised when I had such a hard time deciding between the Flow X13 and Lenovo's offerings (mostly the Yoga Pro lineup, I'm not much of a fan of gaming laptops). Without reading the title, I would have assumed this to be an Alienware prototype. If they actually managed to cool a top end Intel CPU, which is very difficult, while keeping the heat of a 4090 in check - kudos, very impressive. I would love to see an X3D AMD variant, and since their cpus are locked, they could dedicate more of the cooling to the GPU. X3D CCD with lots of cache for programs that make use of that, another regular CCD (even a hybrid one - like with the 4c cores) that runs at a very high speed for programs that prioritize speed over cache, and lots of cooling headroom for a beefy gpu. Nasty amount of computing power on the go without breaking your back with excessive weight, who would have thought of that 5~ years ago, insane.
Finally! The long awaited legion 9! I was wondering why lenovo cut down the legion 7 this year, but it makes sense now as it was to make way for this new king of a laptop. Still unfortunate lenovo cut down the 7 though. But my god, the price of this thing is crazy and one could only dream.
This laptop looks really awesome. Lenovo is proving it's best to wait for them and bypass all the Asus, Razer, and Alienware early on. This laptop and the Legion Go are showing that Lenovo really do understand gamers more than the competition.
16'' for games .... Ahahahaha! The screen size should be the larger the better and no less than 17 inches. Its why I sold 15.6'' ASUS and 16'' Legion and now uses 17.3 ASUS ROG.
seems like the CPU cooling got worse(only a single fan), can't say I support this idea. We need to wait for full reviews to get actual numbers, but I'm not optimistic here.
@@redlkb unless you're on the road all the time, most people have access to an external monitor which is FAR larger than your 17 inch laptop screen. I prefer to have a smaller laptop on the go, but to enjoy a full desktop experience when I'm home.
Does the screen affect the gaming experience in any way? Due to the 3.2k resolution you’d always have to either upscale to 4k or downscale to 1440p, right? So it’s either more demanding for the laptop than the display can show (4k) or less demanding but with a blurrier picture (1440p)? Or am I missing something here?
Not at all. You can also play in the native resolution with no problem. Most games will support it. Then again, going down to QHD worked without a problem, too without any noticeable blur.
Few years ago I replaced my old asus rog gaming laptop for legion i5 pro with 3070 because of the mux switch! Love to see now this product from them. They appear indeed to understand gamers! And as someone suggested 18” bigger screen and more room for cooling would be very nice!! They only have to fix when you were on battery back to net that cpu and gpu and the game does understand it.:)
Love the forged carbon fibre part, wish they would make a full carbon fibre case in the future. Not a big fan of those high resolutions at 16" displays, not really good for gaming at all.
Very interesting preview! I already have my Legion 7i 4080 so don't think I'll be getting this one. For travelling, I imported the Acer Predator Triton 14 4070 with Mini LED from the US when it was on sale for $1700. It cost me about €2K after import taxes and that will do me for gaming on the go.
@@NotebookcheckReviews It sure is thank you! I think this model is very much overlooked in the 14" gamer market given its selling price for the specification. The keyboard deck stays nice and cool while gaming and it has surprisingly good build quality. In HDR mode the display really pops as you can imagine. While the 4070 is not enough to drive the 250Hz panel, that doesn't really matter to me. Downsides are RAM is soldered, so stuck with 16GB, power brick is big and for me no warranty as returning it to the US will be impossible 😒 Also ports are not on the back like the Legion which is a bit annoying 😛
Moving keyboard down to allow more space for cooling makes sense to make powerful laptops thiner, especially when RTX 4000 series got more power efficient. It doesn't need to be thin but it obviously can be without much compromises, if any.
This was also a good idea since most users will use this one with an external mouse anyways. So, I guess the "half" touchpad is an acceptable compromise.
that is a question, but I would say lenovo support and quality control is better than asus and razor, so this would be a big deciding factor. in terms of performance they will probably be around the same, although i am interested what the water cooling solution does to noise levels.
Pretty much the sweet spot between the two with its 3.2k resolution. To answer whether it's better or worse, we must wait for the final sample to do all our measurements. But subjectively, its in the same ballpark of overall picture quality.
But i dont understand. Wouldnt it be worse since its 3.2k? That means you have to downscale to 1440p or upscale to 4k so itll never be as good a just a native 4k or qhd screen.@@NotebookcheckReviews
I can't wait for the AMD CPU model as per usual. Also, I was hoping they made better use of the space on top, like maybe some macro keys. It'd also be really cool if Lenovo releases a legion 9 with an AMD GPU, like a high end RX7900M (which I'm not sure actually will be a thing), could potentially show the power of AMD in a portable form factor
I dont think there will be an AMD option. Look at the Legion Pro 7s; the Zen4 Variants were announced months ago and have yet to hit the market anywhere. I would also not put my hopes in higher-end mobile GPUs for this year.
@@kotenkostiantyn12827800m 7900m would be on par with Nvidia's best lol or even better look at last gen 6800m and 6850m they are better than 3080 in most games it's sad that amd doesn't focus on mobile
I disagree. Upside-down motherboard, separate heatpipes for CPU and GPU, meaning that in scenarios like gaming(where mostly GPU will be used) or CPU-rendering(where it needs A LOT of power) the components will have access to less fans. There is a reason almost all gaming laptops these days have shared heatpipes. I don't like these ideas honestly. Also no USB-A ports on the sides and the headphone jack is near the back of the laptop, not close to the user. Personally, I'd never buy a laptop like this.
@@TabalugaDragon we cant talk about temps before the full review. Who can afford this laptop most likely has a wireless headset. For USB A you always can buy dongles if you need more ports. This is a premium exotic laptop, it will never have best value per dollar
@@blondegirl7240 laws of physics would say that 2 or 3 fans are better than one at remoing heat. There is no way a single fan removes a lot of heat from the CPU. Plus in CPU-only load it'll have to spin REALLY fast which means a lot of noise. Not everybody likes using wireless, the headphone jack being as far away from the user as possible feels like mocking, they could have put it much closer. Dongles are inconvenient. Why would I use dongles when I already buy a premium, top end laptop? It's not a thin and light macbook air, they absolutely have space for ports on the sides. I wasn't talking about value, just convenience. And having upside down motherboard in a gaming laptop, which will be upgraded and cleaned 10 times more often than an office laptop is just wrong. With an office laptop - sure, they are almost never upgraded and serviced. A gaming laptop is an enthisiast device that needs to have easy access to the components for the user.
I wish they were working on an 18” laptop, and I had wished they kept the fingerprint reader on the legion pro 7 Gen. 8, as well as the rear lit ports and the logo
hope they make something that you just need to remova plastic cover to expose the cooper pipes at the back then you attach a cooling solutions on it like rad or air cooling
How does it compare in size to the M16, Razer 16, and other slim form-factor gaming laptops? It’s always hard to tell just by watching a video. Great content btw!
I made an internal watercooled laptop. I had to add 2 EXTRA fans because the lower delta T at the radiators made airflow convection less effective. Then, it was able to achieve quieter AND cooler temps AND overclock improvement over the stock heatpipe setup. 3 fans with thin rads on this just doesnt look like its enough for the loop to have enough impact ....... I really hope this laptop brings something special other than a nice screen and being a bit thin, unfortunately Lenovo made it so hard for this to stand out performance wise because the Legion 7i is already really good at cooling a HX CPU and 4090 at the limits of a single power adapter and nvidia's mandate of 175W GPU power...
As always very good video, thx for showing us this beast! But damn, 5000€ here in germany is just crazy. I bought my Legion Pro 7i with 4080 otherwise base spec at launch at around 2300€ and spend another 300€ for ssd and 64gb ram upgrade. It runs flawless, I tweaked the power targets and now I can enjoy pretty silent gaming with still so much power. But as we all know Lenovo, they will probably have big discounts quickly, for around 3000€ I could imagine picking this up as my final workstation and desktop replacement!
Well, the Legion Pro 7s are priced pretty well, especially compared to the competition and with keeping their regular sales in mind! I also hope prices will adjust for the 9i, if it comes close to similar specced Asus and Razer offerings, this might be the clear winner
I am definitely on the fence on getting this one. I tried the Alienware M16, Scar 16, Predator Triton 17X, and they all have issues I don't like. This might be the answer. You know how many dimming zone this panel has?
@polanialmoni6274 I just found out from Austin channel that this laptop the CPU and GPU faces the keyboard which is one of the thing I hated about the Predator Triton 17X, because it was burning my fingertips after 30mins of gaming, with max fan speed
Is it safe to assume that this will perform worse in games than the pro 7i due to the slim chassis and potentially earlier thermal throttling? Also, is it noticeably louder?
You say you do not agree with everything they did with this puppy and then pretty much name a lot of positive stuff. Could you please point out what you didn’t like? :) Also, for gaming: will this thing be better than the pro 7i or is it just thinner (and has to compromise because of that)?
What chips are water-cooled? Is the water loop self-contained without any need for maintenance ever? To be compared with the noise of Alienware x16 and XMG Neo+Oasis. --robert jasiek
I mean it's nice and everything ,but my lenovo 7i pro is such powerful machine already i don't see 5000 price point reasonable just for little better screen and processor
Agree. You could take the difference you saved by getting the pro 7i and invest in a great external screen, mitigating the „problem“, that the pro 7is screen is worse than the 9is. The better cpu of the 9i will likely not be a deciding factor in a few years. If games are overwhelming the pro7i in a manner that makes gaming on good framerates impossible, than you would want to invest in a new laptop anyways, I doubt the 9is cpu would make a big difference there.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Your thoughts on the display so far? Any noticeable blooming while gaming? Single zone whilst on Desktop SDR? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work. Best channel regarding laptops there is (really great written reviews as well!)!
better screen and processor from what i see maybe a build quality also finger print reader well also coolling we dunno how it's gonna perform in real life
It's pretty chunky, but its also 330W. The Legion will ship with a 140W USB-C charger, in case you want something more portable when you do not need the entire performance.
Леново супер! Я пользуюсь легионом 7 (2021г) это замечательная машина , но Легион 9 просто вышка !!! С такой мощной начинкой и такие температуры = браво! Пойду искать продавцов , что бы обновиться!
I am not the typical laptop user. When I own laptops I use them exclusively as desktop replacements and plug them in external monitors, keyboard and mouse. Never using the keyboard the monitor and the touchpad they come with. For this reason I have no problem if a laptop is thicc. The more the better if it helps with the cooling. This laptop is not thicc. But if Lenovo has managed to solve the heating issues and the aforementioned water cooling in it is 100% safe for years and years to come, then I will have to give it to them and make me willing to get one. On my wishlist for when I am rich as now I am poor and couldn't afford a Lenovo mouse. Still, I love technology and bravo to Lenovo if they have found a way to do it safely.
That is what I thought. I do not mind some extra heft for a powerful notebook if it means that noise and temps are handled. But with this one, they put together a thin profile AND managed two of the current hottest mobile components!
Is there windows hello support and how good is audio? For this price you kinda expect your laptop to be great multimedia machine and not just gaming/productivity performance
Regarding bio metrics, you only get the fingerprint reader. When I return to the office, I will give the speakers a quick test. I only had a limited time getting this video ready! :)
As an early adopter of the Legion Pro 7i with the 4080 Mobile, I don't think I miss much. I still prefer my covert gaming laptop compared to this beast, though I am legit curious to see how the self contained AiO performs and how it looks like in case you guys tear it down.
You definitly do not need to feel any buyers remorse. The Legion Pro 7 is a great machine. For me personally the display would be the deciding factor between the two today.

the pro 7i have a qhd 240hz display in which 4080/4090 can easily reach in even demanding games, allowing high refresh rate and low latency gameplay that is better for competitive players, while 9i have 3.2k miniled that is really bright and able to excel in AAA titles, overall depends on what you want, got a pro 7i with 4090 2 months ago and never looked back
@@lsp6032I really want the pro 7i with 4090 but can’t justify the price difference, considering I’ll be using it mainly for the 3D rendering and maybe games from time to time.

Thanks for the video, Alex! And thanks for saying "I can't share some numbers yet", because the other 3 "reviews" I've seen (they were sponsored) said "Lenovo allowed me to say anything I want" without sharing the most important details about the laptop like thermals. Does the water cooling go over both CPU and GPU or just GPU? Also, CPU seems to be separate this time 🤔 IMO, not a good idea, as in CPU-only loads this will severely limit power and performance.

My legion 9i was faulty when received. Sudden fps drops. Restarts and wifi stopped working at times. Shit customer service by lenovo. Now they say gonna take another couple or months for replacement
It would be interesting to see how that X3D silicon performs in this chassis. Especially considering that the Zen4 CPUs usually run hotter than their Intel counterparts!
The only think stopping me from picking this up is the 165hz refresh rate. The majority of laptops in the segment are giving me 240 for less money. I currently and Alienware M15 R5 I’m trying to sell to buy something that can look more at home in a professional setting. This was a really compelling package but I may go with the 7i slim to get the 240hz for less money. It’s a shame because this package is incredible.
I only wish it comes with an option to replace the forged carbon lid with an ordinary metallic one. Those things look horrible on cars and it's the same case on a computer.
if you take the SCREEN part only, what will be better Legion 9i or Blade 16 Mini led in HDR mode? I saw in another review that Legion has terrible colors in HDR mode, like 92% sRGB and 70% P3. with low brightness. Can you confirm it? @NotebookcheckReviews
So it was true that they were removing features from the 2023 Legion 7 so they could make a Legion 9... Kind of a shame, but I will hand it to them, this looks incredibly slick. I'm guessing 4999 USD?
Amazing laptop but the lack of 17 or 18 inch is lenovo's biggest weakness. A bigger pro 7i may have been more exciting because this sounds like it could be a bit too expensive with 40 series now having sales
Either way, regardless how it is engineered, thermal compound would either need to be liquid metal or easily repleacable. This also refers to cleaning/dusting-off the fans and heat-pipes grills. This is absolute necessity, this i 5K$ laptop, and it will suck stuff inside (and its perf. will deteriorate). Why am I mentioning that, because the diff in temps with Liq. M. can reach 20C, add to that dust and you are reaching 25C difference. If super clean, out of the box, it does not sit in 70C's then it will go up to 95C at some point. Additionally, it is almost impossible to create such cooling without adding thermal mass - which means - this should be a bit heavier than typical one (and more expensive 99%-grade Cu cooler). The overall design would have to be considering 'cleaning activities' and heatpipes could not be fragile and easy to bent etc. I am keeping fingers crossed for Lenovo engineers.
It doesn't matter how such a thin profile gaming laptop is performing now, what matters how it continues to perform 6 months down the line. Most new laptops work great out of the box without much thermal concerns but with time it starts showing signs of high temps, crashes, glitches, stutters etc... and then ultimately RMA.
@@NotebookcheckReviews I am sharing my experience of owning gaming laptops which were quite powerful in terms of specs - 2 Lenovo legion pro laptops 9th gen i7 RTX 2070 then a 11th i7 with RTX 3070. And then I switched to a MSI Stealth after the horrendous experience with Lenovo. These laptops don't come cheap. However, like I have mentioned before initial few months (6-8 months) were great but then the problems started surfacing. High temps, games would crash randomly, stutters etc... although the laptop config would exceed the sys requirements, but the thermal cooling performance would diminish after a period of time. I have had my share of multiple cases of RMA, tech support etc... overall it killed my gaming experience. I now own - ASUS scar 16 2023 model with i9 13980HX with RTX 4080 but I don't game on it as often. Instead, I own a PS5 and game on it without worrying about anything else anymore. no idea what you mean. You just need to clean your laptop's fans regularly. Been using powerful laptops for many years now, never had problems you described. However, for this specific laptop the motherboard is inverted, so it would be hard to clean the fans, hence why I would never buy something like this. It's a very anti-consumer decision.
Because it is built a lot better, and the display might have a slower refresh, but its better in every other regard. And even with a mobile 4090, you will have a hard time getting to 240 Hz anyways ...

I wish Lenovo would make something like this for business users (or those who wish to purchase a best-in-class Linux workstation). Get rid of the RGB bling (have the same keyboard, but just with simple white backlighting), make the dedicated GPU optional, make sure one USB-C supports display-port and is wired to the iGPU (instead of the dGPU), keep the big battery, the awesome "true-strike" keyboard, and the awesome high-refresh rate panel. Why the hell is the headphone jack so far back?
I thought this uses mini led?
@@NotebookcheckReviews The Pro 7i is offered with a MiniLED Display, but sadly not in the EU. However, I may get the 7, because I am worried about the longevity of the 9 (water cooled laptop -> every laptop repair guy I asked said "Do not buy"!!!). Hoping to see this point in your review!
I just bought a maxed Legion Pro 7i. How does it compare, do I need to return and get this? Looking for max performance for gaming and work.
The difference should be marginal. It’s more about the slimmer chassis, better display and additional features I would say.
@@NotebookcheckReviews thank you for the reply. it has a fingerprint reader on the power button too right? I think the Pro 7i removed that feature?
Yes indeed.
Everything's rosy as long as a laptop, a portable device, boasts a commendable battery life (7+ hrs least). Else it's a super compact desk-top.
I hope lenovo has ticked that box... Can't wait for notebookcheck's detailed written review, my go to resource for laptop reviews.
You will get it as soon as Lenovo sends us a final sample!
Its a gaming laptop with some of the most powerful hardware available currently. You can't expect battery life to be amazing 🤣
and for the review of legion 9i, please compare this laptop to the pro 7i, which probably have the same perfoemance as this one, the difference between internal AIO and vapor chamber should be interesting
Was wondering where does the watercooling radiator located on this device as the watercooling pipe doesnt seem to be connected to any radiators.
Yepp, it will be very interesting to see how much this loop is actually doing in a final sample! Hopefully we will be able to take it apart!
I love the laptop, and I love what Lenovo is doing, but I would've preferred a 17in 16:10 screen.
This laptop looks really awesome. Lenovo is proving it's best to wait for them and bypass all the Asus, Razer, and Alienware early on. This laptop and the Legion Go are showing that Lenovo really do understand gamers more than the competition.
It might definitly be one of the best premium 16" options for 2023. And the GO looks very interesting as well!
16'' for games .... Ahahahaha! The screen size should be the larger the better and no less than 17 inches. Its why I sold 15.6'' ASUS and 16'' Legion and now uses 17.3 ASUS ROG.
I feel like the most ideal set up is 15-16" for the laptop screen for on the go and just dock it to an external monitor when at home @@redlkb
seems like the CPU cooling got worse(only a single fan), can't say I support this idea.

I have no idea what you mean, but thanks for watching :D
Few years ago I replaced my old asus rog gaming laptop for legion i5 pro with 3070 because of the mux switch! Love to see now this product from them. They appear indeed to understand gamers! And as someone suggested 18” bigger screen and more room for cooling would be very nice!!
They only have to fix when you were on battery back to net that cpu and gpu and the game does understand it.:)
Nice video! You deserve more subscribers 🙌
Thanks! Do not hesitate to tell of your friends about us ;)
I can't wait for the 18 inch!
planning on upgrade my laptop, nice review!
I absolutely adore how you are legit flexing your Devialet speaker in every possible frame. Do a review of it, please!
Love the forged carbon fibre part, wish they would make a full carbon fibre case in the future. Not a big fan of those high resolutions at 16" displays, not really good for gaming at all.
That would be interesting, but I guess it would make laptops even more expensive than they are already.
Can the screen go all the way back like legion? Dies it have fingerprint reader?
Thanks for the great review. Could listen to you talk all day long. LOL Debating getting one of these...
Oh sweet, I only tried the 2022 Triton 14" for a bit, but I really enjoyed it. Must be a nice one with the display and GPU upgrade!
Is the screen better than strix scar or razor blade miniled ones?
that is a question, but I would say lenovo support and quality control is better than asus and razor, so this would be a big deciding factor. in terms of performance they will probably be around the same, although i am interested what the water cooling solution does to noise levels.
@@ahsoka6807 why downscale/upscale? The native resolution is 3200x2000 it is better than 1440p

@@NotebookcheckReviews seems AMD had very limited production capacity

Damn its such a cool laptop 😎 This’s what new legion 7 supposed to be😎
I also like it a lot! ;)
exactly! they downgraded 7i to bring 9i...
Maybe there will be a Legion PRO 9i :D
@@NotebookcheckReviews thank you for the early preview you showed us though!
hope they make something that you just need to remova plastic cover to expose the cooper pipes at the back then you attach a cooling solutions on it like rad or air cooling
It will be exciting to put a final sample through its paces to see if, and how much the water cooling loop brings any benefits.
how did you make it? did you 3D print it or something?
can you provide me the link of this stunning wallpaper??
As always very good video, thx for showing us this beast! But damn, 5000€ here in germany is just crazy. I bought my Legion Pro 7i with 4080 otherwise base spec at launch at around 2300€ and spend another 300€ for ssd and 64gb ram upgrade. It runs flawless, I tweaked the power targets and now I can enjoy pretty silent gaming with still so much power.
But as we all know Lenovo, they will probably have big discounts quickly, for around 3000€ I could imagine picking this up as my final workstation and desktop replacement!
U really underestimate mini led, new cooling system and overall more portable chasis which high demanding person cannot get with legion 7
No way this will go down to 3K 😮 maybe by mid 2025
Well, the Legion Pro 7s are priced pretty well, especially compared to the competition and with keeping their regular sales in mind!
I also hope prices will adjust for the 9i, if it comes close to similar specced Asus and Razer offerings, this might be the clear winner
The price difference is absurd, its just not worth it
Bruv where do you get your wallpapers
I am definitely on the fence on getting this one. I tried the Alienware M16, Scar 16, Predator Triton 17X, and they all have issues I don't like. This might be the answer. You know how many dimming zone this panel has?
On the same boat
@polanialmoni6274 I just found out from Austin channel that this laptop the CPU and GPU faces the keyboard which is one of the thing I hated about the Predator Triton 17X, because it was burning my fingertips after 30mins of gaming, with max fan speed
Is it safe to assume that this will perform worse in games than the pro 7i due to the slim chassis and potentially earlier thermal throttling? Also, is it noticeably louder?
Actually, you will get the same performance and maybe even with less noise. But we must wait for a full production model to make reliable comparisons.
That mini led isn't gsync right?
I want it now but with an oled screen
You say you do not agree with everything they did with this puppy and then pretty much name a lot of positive stuff. Could you please point out what you didn’t like? :)
Also, for gaming: will this thing be better than the pro 7i or is it just thinner (and has to compromise because of that)?

What chips are water-cooled? Is the water loop self-contained without any need for maintenance ever?

I mean it's nice and everything ,but my lenovo 7i pro is such powerful machine already i don't see 5000 price point reasonable just for little better screen and processor
And water cooling, which is a first generation thing that could also bring additional risk

I'm guessing the mains power supply is fairly large.
It's pretty chunky, but its also 330W. The Legion will ship with a 140W USB-C charger, in case you want something more portable when you do not need the entire performance.

It just bumps up 2-3 times the values😢
Will it perform much better in games than the pro 7i with 4090 ?
Probably not really. Best case scenario with CPU-heavy games, max 10% more fps I guess

I kind of agree, but this is also a very nice form factor. It's making all this power very portable.
Lets see if we can do a full teardown of a final sample once we get one. It would very interesting to get a detailed look at the cooling solution.
Plastics or all metal?
Now this what a true laptop look
True. I was concerned about that the first time I saw this puppy. But it didn't bother me yet, and I would say I got pretty large hands.
Do you really think that this is a widespread problem with high-performance gaming notebooks? Do you have first hand experience?
I hope this answers your query.
no idea what you mean. You just need to clean your laptop's fans regularly. Been using powerful laptops for many years now, never had problems you described.
However, for this specific laptop the motherboard is inverted, so it would be hard to clean the fans, hence why I would never buy something like this. It's a very anti-consumer decision.
Clean fans twice a year and you'll be fine
165hz display vs 240hz on scar 16. why does the lenovo cost 1000 more?
Because it is built a lot better, and the display might have a slower refresh, but its better in every other regard. And even with a mobile 4090, you will have a hard time getting to 240 Hz anyways ...

Also give users the choice of AMD or Intel CPUs. I think Lenovo's P1 gen 6 comes close to my wish-list, but I'd love a business laptop that feels as good as the Legion 7 gen 7 (AMD edition).
Agreed, being a creator, I also wish for more subtle, high-performance machine with more customization options.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Have you tried using a MacBook? My wife has a MacBook Air 15, and that thing is a little rocket (even when running on battery)! On top of that, it seems to last forever on a single charge, and it's completely silent (doesn't even have a fan).
If I wasn't such a die-hard Linux user, I'd buy a MacBook Air 15. If Linux ever runs natively (and well) on a MacBook Air 15, I won't hesitate buying one.
I Hear Your Deutsch Akzent 😂 schönes Video btw 🎉
Kann man nicht verstecken ;)
Danke dir!
Come to think of it, I think that it would have been better to have an 18 inch variant with a mini Led display.
The larger size would have meant even more potential for cooling and more room for a larger touchpad.
True, but it would be a sacrifice to portability. Both variants would have had potential, but I like this one a lot.

@@NotebookcheckReviewswould you say this makes less fan noise than a typical gaming laptop?
@@adamal9560 he can't share that info yet like he said in the video, the laptop is still under embargo
@@TabalugaDragon embargo? Wdym
@@adamal9560 basically a company that sends the laptop usually sets time restrictions on when reviewers can actually share all kinds of info about the sample they send. Usually that date is the official release\sale starting date of a device.
When the laptop will be available to buy officially the embargo will be lifted and reviewers can say anything they want and post test results.
Damn! Just ordered 4090 legion 7i pro. Hope to see a comparison of both.
Damn how much did you spend
@@DrDarp Around 3625Euro.
We will definitly put it through its paces properly! @Tensorwolf, would you rather like to see a 240Hz display that you can not drive at that refresh rate anyway? ;)
it's awesome and such a powerful machine i paid 4000 personally @@kedarundale972
Same here
The thing about a laptop this nice and expensive is id be afraid to travel with this in a backpack incase it gets damaged or stolen. We all know how airport securiry handle other peoples laptops
Ah well, true. But you can only have so much control in your life ...
@@NotebookcheckReviews Thats very true. Can you review the HP Omen 16 that comes with a 4070?
Looks quite nice, I-m a bit upset that they made the pro 7i "less pro" so that the new 9i could shine, but oh well
Ah well, but then again, the Pro 7s are pretty well-priced compared to the competition, so it might have been some pretty sensible "cost-cutting"
@@NotebookcheckReviews that is also very true, by the way, got me a 5i pro thanks to your amazing review ☺️
@@NotebookcheckReviews yes, but they didn't need to make the design for 7 so ugly 😂
Sure, use cheaper materials, less features etc, but why make it so unattractive for purchace?
Wow, i really like this laptop, just wish they kept Corsair RGB software like they did with there 11th Gen CPU laptop, my current laptop is a beast so keep this for another year, but will look at getting this laptop.
I think i9 will cook so hopefully bring out i7-13850HX variant with 4090
You’re joking right? ICUE was really bad on the legions. It may be familiar for you but its very bad software. Thankful it doesn’t exist anymore
@@frostgodx I agree it had it flaws, but using the corsair software was great for mice, keyboards etc, because Lenovo dont have that many
Bro I was about to buy the 7i model until I suddenly heard about 😂. Honestly this laptop came in a suprise to me since I only just heard it now
Made a decision yet? ;) 7i or 9i?
for camparison price doesn't make sense to me 7i pro is better honestly
If the price was within 500 usd difference it would have been an excellent choice and very competitive.
As it is now, its very niche
@@NotebookcheckReviews still the 7i, After countless of review searches it seems some compromise were made such as ram and fans accessibility due to inverted motherboard, keyboard being on the lower end due cooling, display can’t turn 180 and few usb A ports (2 ain’t enough for the price). Since it’s their first 9i generation I will give the legion team a benefit of the doubt on what they came up with and the laptop is honestly really cool.
I would have rather seen a larger screen variant with 2+ mm key travel. And in my experience Lenovo Thinkpad keyboards are unpleasantly stiff; if this one is similar, then I would definitely want one with a more typical gaming keyboard actuation force.
I actually really like the feel for this one. It has solid travel, a pronounced pressure point and a softer but satisfying feel when bottoming out ...
AMAZING, a bit sad about the trackpad
